Chapter 2: A Second Chance… NOT!

Another new day had arrived on the Island of Sodor. The Engines on the Fat Controller's railway were working their hardest to make the island a nice place to live and to visit. And they were also busy helping out with the spring holiday rush so that everyone can enjoy their time on Sodor. Connor and Caitlin were the busiest of all, bringing holiday travelers from the mainland to the island. And Spencer brought the Duke and Duchess of Boxford to their holiday house to spend their time there as well. Even Mr. Conductor was on his holiday. And as usual, everything was going about like clockwork, as was it should be.

That morning, Thomas was at Knapford Station with his two coaches. And of course, his Smurf partner, Dreamy, was with him as usual. The two best friends were enjoying themselves enormously.

/Dreamy\: "Ah, another new smurfy day for us Smurfs to smurf our vacation."

/Thomas\: "Indeed, this day should be very brilliant."

But then, Dreamy had a thought.

/Dreamy\: "And I hope we don't smurf into Diesel, he really smurfs me the smurfs."

/Thomas\: "Yes, my thoughts exactly."

But suddenly, Thomas saw something that made him frown in annoyance.

/Thomas\: "/SIGH\ Speaking of Diesel…"

Dreamy turned and saw something that made him frown in annoyance also.

/Dreamy\: "Oh, for smurfness sakes."

There coming towards them, was indeed Diesel. And he was putting on a cheerful and calmed face.

/Dreamy\: "Now what do we smurf?"

/Thomas\: "It's still up to you, Dreamy."

/Dreamy\: "Oh, I know exactly what I'm going to smurf to him."

/Thomas\: "Good."

Diesel stopped beside them.

/Diesel\: "Good morning, you two."

/Thomas\: "/Unhappily\ Good morning, Diesel."

/Dreamy\: "/Unhappily\ Yeah, good morning."

/Diesel\: "/Sweetly\ Isn't this a lovely day?"

/Thomas\: "It sure is."

/Dreamy\: "Yeah, whatever."

/Diesel\: "O-k. Now then, little Smurf, since it's a new day, I was hoping that we can have that chat. What do you say, hmm?"

Dreamy turned to Thomas. Then he turned back to Diesel.

/Dreamy\: "You really want to have a smurf with me?"

/Diesel\: "Oh yes, I really do."

/Dreamy\: "Well then, what will my answer be this time?"

Dreamy paused for a few minutes.

Diesel waited patiently, hoping Dreamy will say yes.

Then, Dreamy made his choice.

/Dreamy\: "Ok, I smurf my choice."

/Diesel\: "Yes?"

/Dreamy\: "My choice is… /5-4-3-2-1\ no."

/Diesel\: "/Shockingly\ WHAT?!"

/Dreamy\: "You smurf me, it's no."

/Diesel\: "Oh, please! Pretty, pretty please! With oil on top?!"

/Dreamy\: "No."

/Diesel\: "But…"

/Dreamy\: "No."

/Diesel\: "But…"

/Dreamy\: "No!"

/Diesel\: "But…"

/Dreamy\: "NO!"

/Diesel\: "Please…"

/Dreamy\: "I SMURF NO!"

/Diesel\: "PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEEEEAAASE…"

/Dreamy\: "/Shouting\ NOOOOO!"

Thomas was very cross and fed up. And he lost his patience.

/Thomas\: "NO DIESEL, I WON'T LET YOU TO HAVE A CHAT WITH DREAMY!"

/Diesel\: "/GASP\"

Diesel was appalled. Thomas had just brought himself into the situation.

/Diesel\: "WHAT?!"

/Thomas\: "YOU HEARD ME, NO!"

/Diesel\: "WHAAAAT?!"

/Annie\: "/Crossly\ THE ANSWER IS NO, DIESEL!"

/Clarabel\: "/Crossly\ AND THAT'S OUR FINAL ANSWER!"

/Diesel\: "/Stuttering\"

/Dreamy\: "Let's smurf out of here, I had enough of this!"

/Thomas\: "Agreed!"

/Annie & Clarabel\: "Agreed!"

/Thomas\: "Goodbye Diesel!"

/Dreamy\: "Smurf ya NEVER!"

And with that, Thomas huffed crossly away with Dreamy aboard.

/Annie & Clarabel\: "HMPH!"

Diesel was outraged.

/Diesel\: "OHHH, BOTHER!"

But he was not finished yet. There was still the other Smurfs he wants to chat with.

And with some luck, Diesel hurried off to find the other steamies.

But, it's the same situation as Thomas'. Diesel kept repeating the same thing repeatedly.

/Handy & Willing\: "NO!"

/Edward\: "FORGET IT, DIESEL!"

And no matter how much Diesel tries, he ends up having no luck.

/Nat & Tracker\: "NO!"

/Henry\: "NO!"

/Hefty & Tuffy\: "NO!"

/Gordon\: "NO!"

/James, Grouchy, & Vanity\: "NO!"

/Percy, Harmony, & Jokey\: "NO!"

/Toby & Farmer\: "NO!"

/Duck & Clumsy\: "NO!"

/Donald, Douglas, Christopher, & Marco\: "NO!"

/Oliver & Brainy\: "NO!"

/Emily, Molly, & Smurfette\: "NO!"

/Rosie & Sassette\: "NO!"

/Billy & Snappy\: "NO!"

/Flora & Slouchy\: "NO!"

"/Imagining sounds of no's echoing around Diesel with one great big no at the end\"

With every denial, every rejection, and every no for an answer, Diesel was enormously fed up and snapped.

/Diesel\: "/SCREAMING\ CURSE THOSE SMURFS, AND CURSE THOSE WRETCHED STEAMIES! OH, JUST THEY WAIT, JUST THEY WAIT!"

So all he can do was simply oiled off to the Dieselworks, grumbling and fuming.

Evening came, and everything went silent on the Island of Sodor.

At the Dieselworks, things were still bustling about.

Den and Dart were waiting for Sidney to bring diesel parts for Norman, of which he was broken down, again. And they were very impatient.

/Den\: "What's taking Sidney so long?!"

/Dart\: "What you mean is, maybe we shouldn't send him to get the parts."

/'Arry\: "Typical Sidney."

/Bert\: "Yes, always like him to forget things."

/Norman\: "/GROAN\ Then I'll be stuck up here for another week."

/Paxton\: "Oh cheerful up, I'm sure he'll be here any minute now."

/'Arry\: "Or any day."

/Bert\: "Heh-heh, good one."

So Den and Dart waited and waited.

But then, they heard a couple of toots of a horn.

"/TOOT! TOOT!\"

At last, Sidney arrived with the parts.

/Norman\: "It's about time!"

Sidney came to a stop.

/Sidney\: "I'm back!"

/Dart\: "Did you had trouble remembering, lad?"

/Sidney\: "Oh no, I remembered precisely."

/Den\: "Jolly good, let us see the parts"

The two diesels motored up to the flatbed.

/Den\: "Uncover the tarp."

As the tarp was uncovered, Den and Dart sighed in disappointment.

/Den & Dart\: "/SIGH\"

Instead of bringing diesel parts, Sidney brought steamie parts.

/Sidney\: "Is something wrong?"

/Den\: "Yes, you brought the wrong parts."

/Sidney\: "But I did what you both told me."

/Dart\: "What exactly did you say?"

/Sidney\: "I said, 'I'm here for the parts'."

/Den\: "But didn't you say diesel parts?"

/Sidney\: "Oh, umm…"

/'Arry\: "3, 2, 1."

/Sidney\: "I forgot."

/Bert\: "Heh-heh, good timing."

/Den & Dart\: "/SIGH\"

/Norman\: "Oh, bother!"

/Dart\: "Alright lad, you're done for the day."

/Den\: "Paxton, you go get the parts."

/Paxton\: "Yes, righto!"

And Paxton motored off.

Just then, he saw someone with a headlamp on coming to the Dieselworks. It was Diesel.

/Paxton\: "Hello Diesel."

But Diesel just passed him grumbling and mumbling.

/Diesel\: "/Grumbling and mumbling\"

/Paxton\: "Alright, see you later. But what's wrong with him?"

Diesel kept on grumbling and mumbling until he entered the Dieselworks and came to a stop.

/Diesel\: "/Grumbling and mumbling\"

The other diesels were concerned.

/Den\: "Diesel, you looked down in the dumps."

/Dart\: "What he means is, what's the matter with you?"

/Diesel\: "/GROWL\"

/'Arry\: "Come on, lad."

/Bert\: "We can't help you until you tell us the problem."

/Diesel\: "/GROWL\ It's…"

/Den\: "Yes?"

/Diesel\: "It's…"

/Dart\: "Yes?"

/Diesel\: "It's…"

/'Arry & Bert\: "Yes?"

/Diesel\: "It's, it's, it's… /Shouting\ OH, I'M TOO FRUSTRATED TO ANSWER!"

/Den & Dart\: "Whoa!"

/'Arry & Bert\: "Whoa!"

/Norman\: "Whoa!"

/Sidney\: "Umm, what's with the yelling?"

/A mysterious loud voice\: "What's going on over there?!"

/'Arry & Bert\: "/GASP\"

/Den & Dart\: "/GASP\"

/Norman\: "/GASP\"

/Sidney\: "Uhh?"

Suddenly, a shadowy figure came out of the doors from inside the Dieselworks. It creeped forward towards the ledge. The lights began to reveal the figure. And there, with 'Arry and Bert, was no other than the master of deviousness himself… Diesel 10!

/Diesel 10\: "What's with all the noise?"

/Den\: "It's Diesel, boss."

/Dart\: "He's upset, and he won't tell us the problem."

Diesel 10 looked down. And he can see that Diesel was indeed upset. He was glad to see him.

/Diesel 10\: "Ahh, Diesel, my loyal follower. What's the problem?"

/Diesel\: "/GROWL\"

/Diesel 10\: "There, there, everything will be alright. Just calm down and tell ol' Diesel 10 the problem."

At last, Diesel calmed himself down.

/Diesel 10\: "Now, what it is?"

/Diesel\: "It's them wretched steamies!"

/Diesel 10\: "Ohh, what did they do to you?"

/Diesel\: "Well, nothing really."

/Diesel 10\: "Then what is it?"

/Diesel\: "They have new friends!"

/Diesel 10\: "And?"

/Diesel\: "But, their friends are not like us, or them steamies!"

Everyone looked confused.

/Diesel 10\: "Then, what are they?"

/Diesel\: "They're these little creatures called Smurfs!"

Everyone looked even more confused.

/Den\: "Smurfs?"

/Dart\: "What he means is, we never heard of those lively things before."

/Diesel\: "And that's what I want to know! So I wanted to have a chat with them, but they refused! And the steamies brought themselves into the situation!"

/'Arry\: "Oh my."

/Bert\: "Oh dear."

/Diesel\: "But I knew they will do that! So I was hoping that you can do something about it!"

/Diesel 10\: "Hmmm…"

Diesel 10 thought for a moment. But then, he had an idea, a very devious and naughty idea. He made a sinister grin.

/Diesel 10\: "Don't worry, Diesel. You just leave it up to ol' Diesel 10."

Diesel grinned sinisterly as well.

/Diesel 10\: "So, what does these Smurfs look like?"

/Diesel\: "You can't miss them. They're blue, they wear clothes, and they're the size of a rat."

/Diesel 10\: "Brilliant. And tell me the steamies who have them."

Diesel listed the names of the steamies.

And Diesel 10 now know who they are.

/Diesel 10\: "Right, I'm on it… right now. /Cackling\ Oh, please motor aside, Diesel, so I can go on your set of rails."

The turntable turned, and Diesel moved to a set of rails on the left side.

Then, the turntable was lifted, and turned to Diesel 10's set of rails. He moved into the turntable. Then it lowered him to the ground.

/Diesel 10\: "/Cackling\ Here I come, Smuuuurrrfs!"

And he oiled away.

/Sidney\: "Umm, am I missing something here?"

/Diesel\: "/GROAN\ Go back to sleep, Sidney."

/Sidney\: "Oh, alright."

And Sidney motored back to his shed.

Diesel looked out of the gates where Diesel 10 had motored off. He grinned sinisterly.

/Diesel\: "Look out, Smurfs. You all are in for a really big surprise… in the morning. Hee-hee-hee-hee."

And after that, the diesels went to their sheds, and they all went fast asleep. While Diesel smirked with triumph.
