Lily

Marlene's provoking Sirius again. She hadn't even been paying attention until Sirius asked not to talk about the exam. I frown at her, hoping she'll knock it off. She rolls her eyes but stops, zoning back out.

We should probably hang out sometime, just the two of us. Figure out something fun to do. We haven't had as much time for that this year. I haven't made as much time for it, what with all that's happened with James. And hanging out with this group is clearly not an adequate substitute for her.

For much of this year, my time with James felt so limited. I was acutely aware that this was our final year. That after June everything would change. I could still see him, of course, but it wouldn't be the same.

Tuney had a boyfriend a few summers ago. The summer after my fourth year. The last summer before she moved away. They'd go out every Friday night - to dinner, to the movies, whatever. And the rest of the week she didn't see him.

(She has a new boyfriend now, down in London. Vernon, I think. They're engaged. Mum wrote me; Tuney would never send a letter here herself. I tried writing her once, years ago, but she'd rather ignore me than use an owl.)

At school, I see James every day. The idea of only seeing him once a week…

Well, now I don't have to worry about that. Now I have all the time in the world. Time for Marlene.

After exams. After exams, Marlene and I will hang out.
