A/N: If Alex and Steve's relationship seems a little off, it's because I just watched both Lego Movies and Wyldstyle x Emmet is kind of stuck in my head. Also, I noticed that there was some confusion about Jimmy and Elli's relationship. This chapter should answer that question. They are friends, and friends alone. (Since they are based on people in real life, they will not be shipped together)

Chapter Two: Visitors

Alex looked at the door first, eyes wide with shock. "Do you think…?"

Steve swallowed. "I'm gonna open it."

Alex watched him get up and stood after him, sneakily grabbing her bow from a chest as well as several arrows. She locked one and nodded to Steve, who pulled out a diamond pickaxe and began knocking down the diorite blocking the door.

As soon as it was down, he took a deep breath and laid his hand on the door, before closing his eyes and pulling it open.

The second he did, a pair of figures attacked him. Steve yelled in surprise as two teenagers tackled him to the ground. They pinned him quickly, and Alex saw a glint of steel, recognizing one of them had a sword.

Releasing an arrow, she managed to hit one of the teens, knocking him backwards. Steve shoved the other off and leapt to his feet, scrambling behind Alex as she aimed her bow at the other teen.

This teenager, a girl who couldn't have been older than 15, backed up, looking at Alex fearfully. Alex frowned at her and leverled the bow.

The girl dropped her sword, and it hit the ground with a clattering, loud enough to be a dragon's roar. Alex narrowed her eyes as the girl raised her arms. The boy behind her raised his as well, and Alex stared them down.

"Please don't shoot me," The girl whispered, her voice pleading and scared. "I…" She bit her lip. "Pease…"

Alex didn't drop the bow, but sighed calmly. "Explain yourself."

The girl glanced at the boy nervously, and he shrugged at her. Both of them glanced at Alex again, and Steve reached forward, touching Alex's taunt shoulder.

"Hey, Alex," He tried to reason with her. "Let's just take a breath and set down the bow-"

"Not now," She snapped, turning to the kids again. "I'll give you one last chance. Explain why you tried to kill my husband or I'll put an arrow down your throat."

The boy nervously grimaced, then spoke. "He… he's Herobrine."

Alex's blood ran cold at the mention of the antagonistic man, but she rolled her eyes nonetheless. "He's not Herobrine. He's Steve."

Steve piped up. "Herorine's my brother. It's not something I'm proud of."

The kids looked over Alex as she lowered her bow with a sigh.

"He's not going to…" the boy trailed off.

"No," Alex answered, warily watching the kids as the girl stood up and pulled up the boy.

Steve gasped as soon as the boy got up, and Alex understood why instantly. The boy was wearing a penguin hoodie. He… must've found them.

"Who are you?" Steve asked, looking at the two kids in awe.

"I'm Elli," the girl introduced herself. She pointed to the boy. "And this is Jimmy. We're sorry for… trying to kill you." Elli bit her lip and looked at her feet.

Alex frowned deeply, folding her arms like a mother scolding disobedient children. "Well, I hope that you are considering heading ho-"

"Where'd you guys come from?" Steve asked, interrupting Alex. She frowned, but let him talk.

"Our… village," Jimmy shrugged. He glanced at Elli, who shook her head hard.

Steve rolled his eyes. "I mean, where's your village. Alex and I thought we were the last of our kind. How many of you are there? Where have you been all this time? Why'd you disappear in the first place?"

"Um…" Jimmy bit his lip. "I uh… don't know how to answer those."

"Maybe we should take you back to our village," Elli suggested. "I mean, I think the adults might be able to answer those questions better."

Jimmy blinked at her. "You think?"

Elli rolled her hazel-grey eyes. "Of course. We weren't even born until after everyone fled under the mountain. They'd know more than us."

"Well…" Jimmy trailed off, biting his lip. "What about… Herobrine?"

"Herobrine's dead," Alex added, rather coldly. Steve understood she was trying to protect herself and him, but it was starting to get on his nerves.

"Uh," Jimmy and Elli looked at each other.

Alex rolled her eyes. "That's enough. We're leaving tomorrow." She spun around to head up the stairs. "So I can talk some sense into your parents." She grumbled, trudging up the stairs, her footfalls heavy.

Steve sighed. "Here. We have a guest room you guys can use. Sorry about Alex… she can be kind of… touchy about Herobrine." He opened the door. "Don't take it personal."

"Hey, um," Jimmy spoke up as Elli pulled two beds out of her inventory and set about setting them up. She also pulled out a stack of cobblestone, made a neat divide in the room, and retreated to her seperate 'room'. Jimmy sighed. "I'm sorry for… attacking you."

Steve smiled. "You're good. I'm glad you caught Pumpkin though."

Jimmy smiled painfully. "I figured she'd escaped, but… please don't make me hold her again. I'm allergic."

Steve shrugged. "I get it. Pumpkin doesn't like being held, but she can sense allergic people." He glanced at the room. "Are you two going to be okay?"

"What?" Jimmy asked. "Yeah, we're fine. Elli carried my bed because half the time I leave it somewhere."

Steve grinned at him. "Are you two…?"

Jimmy paled. "No. No. Just friends. We're friends. Ew! No!" He shuddered really hard. "Bleh. Imagine if you had a relationship with a childhood friend! You like, know too much about them to ever-" his rant derailed when he noticed Steve laughing at him. Jimmy frowned. "Look, we're just friends. She's basically my sister."

Steve laughed at him, but left the room. "Alright. Whatever you say."

The second he reached the top of the stairs, Steve ran right into a frustrated looking Alex. She was tapping her foot, arms folded over one another.

"Well?" She asked.

"Well what?" Steve countered, looking confused.

"Are… they gone?" Alex asked, sounding a little bit angry but her voice held undertones that Steve couldn't decipher.

"No," He answered, following her to their room. "I told them they could stay in the guest room. Why?"

"What if they're going to take this opportunity to try and kill you again?" Alex snapped, squeezing the pajama shirt she had grabbed out of the chest beside her side of the bed. "What if you're going to wake up with a sword sticking out of your chest because you let teenagers sleep in our home? What then?"

Steve dug through his clothing chest, rolling his eyes. "Look, I talked to them and both of them seem like nice kids. What else do you want?"

"I don't want you to die!" Alex half-shouted. "I don't want last time to repeat itself. We don't know these kids. We don't know where they came from or… anything! They could be exiled psychopaths for all we know!" She buried her face in her hands.

Steve walked over to put an arm around her. "Hey," She leaned into him, and Steve smiled at her. "I'm gonna be okay, alright?"

Alex took a breath and turned to Steve, wrapping her arms around Steve and burying her face in his shoulder. "Hold me. I'm scared."

Steve nuzzled her soft red hair and cradled her shivering body close to his warm one. "I'm so sorry," He whispered. "I should be the one protecting you… not the other way around."

Alex laughed bitterly, her voice mixing with sobs. "We both know I don't need it."

"Here," Steve whispered. "I'll barricade the door if it'll make you feel safer."

She nodded, crawling out of his arms as Steve stood, blocking the door with some obsidian. Even if the kids could somehow manage to break through the door, there was no way they'd get through this without a diamond pickaxe.

When he turned back, Alex had crawled into one of his shirts and a pair of sweatpants. She was already in bed, watching him anxiously as if he'd just suddenly explode.

Walking over to the bed, Steve crawled into bed beside her, and for the first time since their honeymoon, Alex snuggled him, begging for the warmth radiating for his skin and the gentle comfort of his arms. Steve sighed deeply, before he pulled Alex close to him and began to drift off.

Just as he did, however, a memory sprang to his mind. He was.. Younger… a tall man with his skin tone and face shape smiled at him, helping him to walk while laughing. A teenage boy sat in a corner, looking heartbroken. A beautiful woman with black hair and pale skin smiled and lifted him into her arms. And then… a gap… just… nothing?

Steve wrinkled his nose. How on earth could he have forgotten a couple weeks of his entire life. Unfortunately his brain didn't care and he then fell asleep.
