Dimitri dropped the last box in his bedroom and heaved out a sigh, lifting a hand to wipe the sweat off his forehead. Of course the elevator in his apartment had to stop working the day Rose was moving in so they had to carry all of her belongings up five floors.
Wow, just thinking that was crazy. He couldn't believe the day had finally come... Rose was officially moving in! Moving into his apartment! They were going to be living together! Dimitri could not keep the smile off his face at the thought of finally getting to live with his girlfriend. After almost two years of long distance dating, they would finally not be long distance anymore. He was over the moon.
"Doing okay, comrade?" Rose asked, wrapping her arms around Dimitri's waist. He looked down at her and his heart melted at the pure affection in her eyes.
"I'm doing amazing, Roza," he said. He turned around in her arms and cupped the back of her head with one hand while the other slid down to rest on her lower back. "I'm so happy you're finally here."
"So am I." She lifted her arms so they were wrapped around Dimitri's neck and stood on her toes to bring their lips together. Dimitri sighed in content at the feeling of her soft lips and immediately slid his tongue between her lips to brush against hers. She let out a soft moan which turned into an adorable squeak when Dimitri picked her up and carried her over to the bed. He couldn't help but laugh at the sound and she pulled away from the kiss to smack his arm.
"Don't laugh at me, you caught me off guard," she said, pouting.
"I'm sorry, Roza, you're just so cute," he said, placating her with another kiss. She seemed to accept his apology as she tangled her fingers in his hair while bringing him into another kiss.
Dimitri managed to lay Rose down on the bed and just get his hand under her shirt when the bedroom door shot open. He jumped off Rose and turned to glare at the intruder; Lissa.
"Oh, sorry," she said, not sounding sorry in the slightest. She wedged herself between Rose and Dimitri and grinned at her best friend.
"It's time for lunch," she said.
"Lunch?" Dimitri asked. He didn't know of any lunch plans.
Rose looked a little sheepish when she replied. "Sorry, comrade. Lissa texted me a few days ago and we made plans for lunch."
Dimitri was a little annoyed that he wouldn't be able to spend the first day as roommates with Rose but he knew he couldn't go against Lissa.
"Okay, have fun," he relented. Rose smiled at him and with a quick kiss, headed off to get her things to go. Once she was out of earshot, Lissa turned to Dimitri with a strict facial expression.
"I'm giving you this time to get your proposal ready," she whispered. Dimitri's eyes widened in surprise. How did she know about his-
"Christian told me," she said, as if guessing Dimitri's thoughts. "I know you want to do it today so that's why I'm taking Rose out. You have a few hours to get whatever you have planned ready. Don't waste it."
Damn, Lissa could be scary when she wanted. Dimitri nodded and Lissa's harsh glare turned into a smile.
"Good boy," she said, patting his cheek. "I'll text you when we're on our way back."
She left the room and after a few minutes, and a goodbye from Rose, the front door shut as they left. Well, Dimitri thought, he probably should get things ready.
He knew he wanted to propose since Lissa and Christian's wedding but wanted to wait until Rose was with him. After he asked her to move in a few months prior, he began discussing his proposal plans with the guys.
He very quickly decided that he wanted to take Rose out to dinner that night and propose there. While he could have done it at his apartment, he wanted people to see that she was his and only his. She got a lot of stares whenever they went out together and while Dimitri wasn't usually a jealous person, Rose was so beautiful it was hard not to be. He couldn't wait to show everyone how lucky he was.
The planning didn't take long; all he had to do was book the fancy restaurant for the night, make sure he knew where the ring was, and find what he was going to wear. When that was all done, he figured he might as well just start unpacking her belongings.
They had both decided those few months ago that she was going to move into his bedroom. At first he'd offered for her to move into the guest room if it would make her more comfortable, but she quickly refused. She wanted to be in his bedroom with him. Hearing those words brought a huge smile to Dimitri's face and he just wished he could reach through his laptop screen to kiss her. When he told her that, she just laughed and shook her head but told him she felt the same.
Now that she was finally with him, he didn't think he ever had been or could be happier. Well, perhaps if she said yes to his proposal. When she said yes to his proposal. Yes, when.
—
When Rose and Lissa got back, it was around 4pm which left about two hours before the dinner reservation. Rose and Dimitri spent most of the time laying on the couch and making out, getting completely distracted with each other, but managed to get ready and be at the restaurant in time.
The hostess knew about Dimitri's plans to propose and with Dimitri's request for a romantic table, she lead them to a table with a beautiful view of the water behind them. It was a cute little booth table with a small chandelier hanging over them and small candles on the end near the window. It was perfect for the evening and Dimitri made sure the hostess knew that with a grateful smile. She nodded and left them to get settled before the waitress came.
"Oh, Dimitri, this is perfect," Rose said, smiling up at him. Dimitri couldn't help but notice that she looked so gorgeous in the dim lighting of the restaurant. The candles were shining a soft golden light on her almond-coloured skin and he could feel his heart pounding in his chest. She was amazing and he was terrified for what he was going to do.
"I'm glad you like it, Roza," he said, reaching a hand out to twirl a strand of hair around his finger.
As she was getting settled, Dimitri lifted his eyes and found those of their friends staring at him. He'd asked them all to come so they could take pictures of them as he proposed. Well, that and they all wanted to be there to see the moment. They all joked that they never thought Dimitri would find someone he wanted to marry and they needed to be there to witness this miracle. He'd rolled his eyes at that but deep down felt grateful they cared so much.
Adrian, the one who would be taking the pictures, nodded at Dimitri so he did it back. They had the plan that as soon as they'd finished their main course, Dimitri would give Adrian a special signal hinting that it was time. At that, Adrian would come down to try and sneakily take pictures. Dimitri assumed that Rose would be too focused on the proposal to notice Adrian there so he was pretty certain that it would work.
"Dimitri?" Rose asked. Dimitri snapped back to Rose staring at him and assumed she had been trying to get his attention for a while.
"Sorry, I just had something on the brain," he said.
"Anything I can help with?"
Yes, but not yet. "No, don't worry. I'm happy we're out together."
"Me too. I've missed you."
"I've missed you, too, my love. I can't wait to never have to be apart again."
Rose grinned as she reached out to slide her hand into Dimitri's on top of the table. She looked so beautiful. Fuck, he loved her.
—
Dinner was pretty calm and uneventful but as soon as the waiter took their plates, Dimitri knew it was time. He made the signal to Adrian who jumped up from his table and rushed down to get into position for the pictures.
"Are you okay, comrade? You look nervous," Rose commented. "I mean I get it, I look super sexy tonight and you can't believe we're finally living together, but it's still me. You know me."
Dimitri laughed a little, a small amount of his nerves dissipating at the light-hearted comment. "I am nervous," he admitted. He reached into his coat pocket and wrapped his fingers around the little red velvet box sitting there.
"Why?" she asked, lacing her fingers with Dimitri's again with a look of concern on her face.
"It's nothing bad I promise."
He flicked his eyes to Adrian for a split second and when he got a thumbs up, he slid out of his chair and got on one knee in front of Rose. Her eyes widened as her hands flew up to cover her mouth in shock. Well, Dimitri was glad that he managed to surprise her.
"Roza, I love you," he started. He held a hand out for one of hers and brought it up to his lips when she gave it to him. "In the almost three years we've known each other, I've fallen so hard for you. The moment I first saw you I knew you were the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I didn't think I could feel this way about anybody and I feel so lucky that my heart wanted you.
"I feel even luckier that you wanted me, too. I don't know exactly how the future is going to go between us but I do know that right now, you are the love of my life and I can't imagine being with anyone else but you. So, Rose, my beautiful Roza, will you do me the honour of marrying me?"
He barely got the last word out before Rose screamed out a "YES!" and flung herself at him. He laughed in surprise as he wrapped his arms around her to catch her but she broke it off by slamming her lips onto his.
They kissed for a while as people clapped around them before Dimitri pulled away to shakily slide the ring on Rose's finger.
"I love you so much, Dimitri," she whispered, cupping his cheeks in her hands. Having her using his real name instead of the stupid nickname she gave him showed how emotional she was feeling and made Dimitri's heart soar.
"I love you, too, Roza. So much. I can't wait to marry you."
—
Just over a year later, it was finally Rose and Dimitri's wedding day. They'd spent all of their free time over the past year planning, with the help of their close friends, and they'd made their dream wedding possible. Dimitri couldn't wait to finally marry the woman he loved and start the rest of their lives together.
He arrived at the venue with his groomsmen a few hours before the ceremony and was told that Rose and the girls were already there. He was itching to go and see her like he did on Lissa's wedding day, but this time he was not going to give in. A lot of couples did the 'first look' event on their wedding day - where they would see each other before the actual ceremony - but Dimitri's family was pretty religious and didn't like that. They believed that it was bad luck to see the bride before the ceremony so he gave in and agreed to wait until Rose was walking down the aisle.
Only three more hours... How was he going to survive?
He managed to distract himself with making sure the church looked perfect for the ceremony and was glad that when he was done, although time moved slowly, it was finally time to start.
All the guests were seated on either side of the aisle when Dimitri walked down with his mother and grandmother on either side of him. He kissed both of them on the cheek before taking his place at the head of the aisle.
The bridesmaids and groomsmen, their closest friends, all walked down in their respective couples, then the music began for Rose to appear. Dimitri's hands suddenly began to shake, now coated in a layer of nervous sweat, and his breathing began to quicken in anticipation. She was so close and he could not wait to see how gorgeous she looked in her dress. He hadn't seen the dress even off her so he had absolutely no idea what she was going to look like. But, besides that, he knew she would be beautiful. She always was.
The second she stepped around the corner into the church, Dimitri's mouth went completely dry. Oh god, she looked... Well, there were no words. If he thought she looked beautiful when he first met her, or even the night he proposed, those were absolutely nothing compared to how she looked now.
Her long brown hair was tied up in a bun, the way Dimitri loved on her, and had sparkly diamonds all over it that caught in the light. Dimitri guessed they were little clips. Her veil, covered in lace flower patterns, was attached to a small tiara that sat on the top of her head and flowed down her back. It blended in beautifully with her dress.
God, the dress. Dimitri liked when Rose wore anything, even nothing, but in this? She was an angel, the definition of perfection.
It was tight, hugging her curves mouth-wateringly, but flared out a little around her knees. Mermaid style, he realized. The bodice was just a plain white, silky tank-top basically but with a layer of lace with jewels covering it. It had long sleeves, made of lace, and a deep neckline that reached just underneath Rose's breasts. Dimitri could see little peeks of the two soft mounds as she moved and it excited him a little.
Hey, he was a man, let him be.
The rest of the dress was the same as above: plain white covered in lace. It suited Rose perfectly and Dimitri couldn't imagine another other dress making her look so wonderful.
It felt like hours before she finally reached him but when she did, he was glad he could take in all the little details of her. Her makeup was subtle which he appreciated; she was naturally so beautiful so she didn't really need it.
"Damn, comrade, you look so sexy," Rose whistled, greedily raking her eyes over his form. He was wearing a boring black and white suit and nothing about him compared to Rose so he shook his head, laughing softly. He told her exactly that and she blushed prettily, biting the corner of her mouth.
"Thank you all for joining us today," the officiant interrupted, addressing their guests. "We're here to celebrate the love of Rosemarie Hathaway and Dimitri Belikov by tying them together forever.
"Now, before we start, does anyone object to this union?"
Rose turned to glare at their friends and family and Dimitri laughed at the obvious 'object and I'll kill you' look. Luckily no one objected so the officiant continued.
Rose and Dimitri repeated what the officiant asked them to then it came time to give their vows. They'd decided Rose was going first so she turned to Lissa who handed her a folded piece of paper. She unfolded it then gave Dimitri a beautiful smile before reading it.
"Dimitri, when we first met at the strip club, I never thought we would be here."
Dimitri's eyes went wide at her telling everyone where they met and she burst out laughing at his reaction. He turned to look at his family and they were all looking at him in shock, making him groan.
"Rose," he said.
"Oh shush, it's fine," she said. "Can I continue?"
"Okay." They were definitely going to have to talk later but that wasn't important right now.
"So, as I was saying, I didn't think we would make a connection like we did. I was just a young girl, doing that line of work because I needed the money. I met a lot of people but no one compared to you. I was crushed that you had to leave the next day but then you texted me and I was so happy that you felt the same way I did.
"I feel like the luckiest woman in the world that someone as amazing as you wanted to be with me and I'll never understand how I got so lucky. Thank you for loving me and wanting to be with me. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you, loving you."
She folded the paper back up and Dimitri's eyes watered seeing that she was crying a little. He reached a hand out to wipe her tears away and she nuzzled her cheek into his palm.
"I love you," he mouthed to her.
"I love you, too," she mouthed back.
He read his vows next, pretty much a repeat of what he said when he proposed, and then it was time to exchange rings. Lissa and Christian, the maid of honour and best man, handed them the rings and they once again repeated what the officiant told them.
When they both had their rings on, Rose gave Dimitri a huge grin as if to say "we're married, comrade!" and he had to smile back. The second the officiant told them they could kiss, Dimitri wrapped his arms around Rose and pressed their lips together. She laughed at his eagerness but the ferocity of his lips quickly took over her, too and she was kissing back just as eagerly.
Dimitri had to pull back before they went too far in a holy setting but the dazed look on Rose's face and her swollen lips almost made him give in again.
He let go of her to take her hand then they walked back down the aisle together to their next destination. As it was just past 6pm, dinner was going to start soon so they had just a little time to get their first dance in. While slow dancing wasn't something either Rose or Dimitri were great at, they weren't going to bypass the tradition so they made sure to practice a lot before the day. They'd both gotten a lot better at it and couldn't wait to do it for their guests.
Once everyone was sat at their tables, the newlyweds took their place in the middle of the dance floor and Dimitri nodded to the DJ. As soon as their song began to play - "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis Presley - they started dancing. It wasn't anything fancy, just sort of swaying as they moved around the dance floor a little, but the guests all seemed to think it was the sweetest thing if the way they were cooing was any indication.
The couple barely noticed anything, though, they were too focused on each other. Everything else in the world faded away as Dimitri stared into his wife's - wife's! - eyes and saw how she was looking at him.
"Thank you for marrying me," he whispered, bending down to kiss her gently. She hummed softly, fingers sliding into Dimitri's hair.
"Thank you for proposing," she replied. "I truly can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you. We're going to have so much fun."
"Oh, we definitely will, it will be amazing."
So amazing, and Dimitri was so ready.
