Once at the Leaf, Lee took Gaara to Tenten's house. When Tenten opened the door, she could not believe who was standing there, "Hi Tenten."

"What are you doing here?" She had many conflicting emotions. She was happy to see him, but she was mad at him. "It might not be safe for me if the Kazekage visits my home."

"Why didn't you tell me you are pregnant?" A sad Gaara responded.

Tenten was surprised that he knew about the pregnancy. Seeing her surprised face, he explained, "Lee went to beat me up thinking the baby was the reason why I ended our relationship."

A furious Tenten yelled, "Lee did what?! I am going to beat him up myself."

"Please don't. I am glad Lee went to see me. Why didn't you tell me? Were you ever going to say anything?"

Tenten's expression changed from a furious one to a sad one and asked Gaara to come into her apartment.

"I was going to tell you as soon as the medic told me. Remember, I said we needed to talk." She paused and caressed her belly. "It did not feel right to tell you after you broke up with me. I thought you could take it as a way to manipulate your decision because I did not want us to end. I knew I had to tell you, eventually. I didn't know when."

Tenten got strength in her voice and firmly said, "Listen, you can be as involved as you want in the baby's life. I will not ask you for anything, so no need to worry about me."

Gaara approached Tenten and grabbed her hands, "I want to be completely involved in the baby's life. And I want you in my life too."

Tenten had so many conflicting emotions again. She felt comfortable with his touch, but Gaara was the one who broke up with her. "I want to be with you, but not just because of the baby. I want you to want me because of me."

Looking deeply into her eyes, Gaara caressed her face and said, "You know I love you. A lot of things were untold last time we saw each other." He took a deep breath and continued, "Before the incident, I was planning on asking you to marry me. The night of the festivities with you and Shinki was probably one of the happiest moments in my life. I felt the three of us were a family, and families should be together. After the assassination attempt, I lost it. Your safety became my only priority. Please marry me, move to the Sand Village with me."

Her heart was melting, listening to those words. She felt the same way. "I love you too. And I want to be with you, but what if there is another assassination attempt? how do I know you won't break up with me again?"

Gaara felt ashamed for his past actions. He should not have just ended their relationship.

"We are close to finding out who ordered the assassination attempt. The Sand will prosecute the responsible for the incident in a fair trial. We will increase the security measures in the Sand Village. Your safety and our child's safety will be guaranteed. I promise that no matter what, we will be together forever."

"What about Shinki? It is a big change for a child, how do you think he might react?"

Gaara smiled, "I think he will be happy. After he took you to the hotel, he talked to me. Shinki never questions my decisions, at least directly to me. It was the first time he did. He demanded to know why you left. I explained the reasons for the breakup. He was upset. He said that he was strong enough to protect you. He could not understand why if we loved each other, I had ended the relationship. My son was completely correct. I was a fool."

Tenten had tears in her eyes. Hearing Shinki's reaction to the break up warmed her heart, mainly because they had a rough start.

"Let's get married!. Nothing will make me happier than having a family with you, Gaara."

Gaara kissed Tenten to solidify their engagement. He was so happy to hold her close to his chest and feel her scent. There were still many details needed to be worked out. She could not leave the Leaf Village without following the proper protocol. Gaara stayed the night with Tenten, and the next day both of them went to the Hokage's office to speak with Naruto.

They explained to Naruto that Tenten was going to leave the force and move to the Sand Village as the Kazekage's wife. Naruto was the first person to be invited to their wedding. It was going to be a small wedding. They were going to invite the four Kages (because they had to) and some of their closest friends. "I am sorry to lose one of our best Jonins, but I am happy for both of you," Naruto congratulated them.

Gaara went back to the Sand Village immediately after. The Sand's Anbu notified him that they had found the person who ordered the assassination. Gaara ordered a fair trial for Akifumi. "I don't mind the opposition. It is healthy for our village to have diverse points of view. However, attempting against the life of any person is a crime. A more aggravated crime when the victim is an ally." Akifumi was surprised that he did not order his execution, but no one else was surprised. Gaara was known to be a merciful leader.

Gaara summoned a council meeting to discuss Akifumi's crimes and other urgent matters about the village. At the end of the session, Gaara made an announcement, "I apologize for taking more of your time, but I have some important news that I need to share with you." His face got a little relaxed since he was not going to be discussing budgets. "I got engaged to Tenten from the Leaf Village, and we will get married at the end of this month."

All the council members reacted positively to the news. One of the elders of the council stood up to congratulate Gaara. "Those are the most wonderful news! I am glad you have found a partner. I am just concerned that it will be impossible to plan a proper wedding in such a short time." Then, it finally clicked in the elder's head, "Unless, Miss Tenten is expecting…"

With a kind smile, Gaara responded, "Yes. We are expecting a child and would like to get married as soon as possible."

"Congratulations, Lord Gaara! So many blessings." The elder looked at Kankuro, "Lord Kankuro, you need to follow your brother's steps. You cannot be a bachelor forever. I have a niece if you are interested."

Kankuro just ignored the comment since he enjoyed his bachelor's life and joined the celebration of Gaara's engagement.

The wedding happened at the end of the month. Guy sensei and Lee cried during the whole ceremony, but they cried even harder when the baby was born. Karuri from the Sand was born a happy and healthy little girl. Gaara named her in honor of his late mother, Karura.

When Gaara held his daughter for the first time was a magical moment for him. He grew up thinking his mother did not love him; later he found that that it was a lie and that his mother loved him dearly even for the few minutes they had together. Now he had this new life in his arms; he was going to love and protect that little girl no matter what.

Shinki was excited to become a big brother. While Tenten was pregnant, he made sure to share a meal with her every time he was not away for a mission. He wanted to make sure his baby sister was growing healthy.

"Son, do you want to hold your baby sister?" Gaara offered.

Shinki was a little nervous. Karuri was so tiny and delicate that it made him anxious not to hold her correctly. However, as soon as he had the little girl in his arms, the nerves went away. He did not smile much and tried to show no emotions, but when he held his little sister for the first time, he could not contain his feelings. He smiled, and his gestures became soft. He promised that he will always protect and care for his little sister.

That moment made Gaara shed some discrete tears. So many things that he wished for became a reality at that moment. Seeing his children together next to Tenten was the most precious gift that the universe had given him.
