(Frieda walks with Daisy, Allie, and Shenice)

Daisy: So, who are you going to prom with?

Frieda: I don't know. The guys at school are so lame.

Shenice: What about Richie? He's pretty cute.

Frieda: I guess... Maybe.

Allie: Choose fast. If you wait any longer, prom will be over.

(Madelyn walks up to them)

Madelyn: Ooh! You're asking Richie Foley to prom?

Frieda: That's none of your business, Madelyn.

(Virgil walks past them, head down, hoping to go unnoticed. He's unsuccessful)

Madelyn: Vicious Hawkins! How's it going?

Frieda: Leave him alone, Madelyn.

Allie: He's not in the mood.

Madelyn: I'm just having a conversation. So, church boy. (She runs her finger on his shoulder) You ever see God?

(He glares at her. Madelyn is suddenly electrocuted, and falls on the ground, twitching)

Frieda: Whoa.

Daisy: What the heck?

Madelyn: (She gets up, and glares at Virgil) You asshole! (Angry and embarrassed, she storms off, still twitching)

Frieda: (To Virgil) Are you okay?

(He nods)

Shenice: Let's go, Frieda.

(Virgil walks into his house, mad, sad, and just wanting to go to bed. His spirits are lifted when he hears the radio playing the gospel song, "Open Your Heart". He smiles, thinking of Sharon, his sister and the only family he has left.
In the kitchen, Sharon is trying to cook. Her cooking is terrible, but still edible. Hearing Virgil, she turns away from the stove and smiles at him)

Sharon: Virgil! There's my baby brother!

(She walks over to him, stands on her toes, and kisses him on his forehead. Virgil is already feeling better)

Virgil: I love you, Sharon.

Sharon: I love you too, Virgil. Now go wash your hands and set the table. (She turns off the radio, but continues to sing)

Virgil: ... Sharon... Something terrible happened at school today. I-I didn't do anything-

Sharon: Terrible things are the Lord's way of testing us, Virgil.

Virgil: Yeah, but the other boys-

(Sharon looks shocked, and backs away. Her worst fears have been realized)

Virgil: ... They... They told me to take care of it, then they started throwing socks at me... (He sees his sister's face) Why are you looking at me like that?

Sharon: (Whispers) The curse of lust. (She pulls a Bible out of a drawer)

(Sharon drags a desperate and resisting Virgil across the room, and opens the door to a small, eerily lit Prayer Closet)
