Sunday...
Today was Minako and my date day.
I was so excited, I picked out my best blue t-shirt and pants, wore my best flipflops and, yes, I practically emptied a bottle of cologne.
Minako had to do some chores for the day, so I decided to hurry on ahead to the meeting place, which was the Esplanade. We planned on having ice cream.
Since the day was rather blustery combined with a hot-cloudiness, it was the perfect time to feel the breeze. The people hanging out in the Esplanade were in little numbers, but I sat in a bench and took it all in slowly. The cobbled brick road, the sweet smelling salty air and the general feel of timelessness the sea possessed.
After sitting there, I took a deep breath through the nose and walked up and bought some sea-salt ice cream.
It was very refreshing as I strolled through.
"I hope she comes soon..." I thought to myself as I enjoyed the popsicle, "We'll speak of love together..."
Then, imagined Minako eating ice cream, saying, "Minato, hurry up and tell me how really feel about me..." She purred, "Or I'll surely melt away, like this ice cream..."
Then, I noticed a group of boys crowding and I batted an eyelid, "Huh?"
Suddenly, it came to my attention that they were crowding on a little brunette girl.
"Hey, girlie, wanna take a ride in my car?" A somewhat portly guy asked.
"What, go around Iwatodai?!" She said sarcastically, "That'd be over in thirty minutes."
"Well, after that, we can hang out." He suggested.
"That sounds really lame." She replied as the guy bowed his head.
"Forget this guy, why don't we take a ride in my dad's boat?" Another skinny guy invited, "We could go on a late night voyage. The sea looks very beautiful at night."
"Whatever, come talk to me when you get your own boat." She said pointedly.
"I don't have any money, but me love you long-" a short guy began.
"So shut up and get a job, instead of trying to pick up girls with weak pick-up lines!" She said caustically.
I shook my head, "Tch... She's really bringing in all those guys... I wonder who she could be...? Someone famous, perhaps?" I thought to myself.
Suddenly, all the guys turned around and glared at me. I thought they wanted to beat me up or something. That, or they really don't like seeing someone eat ice cream.
"What?" I said boldly.
Suddenly, a female finger jutted out and pointed at me, "Minato!"
"What?" I said again, "Who are you? How do you know my name?"
Then, the crowd parted as a girl forced herself out, "Its me, Yukari!"
She looked really good today and I smiled as I saw her, "Yukari! Hey!"
"You busy?" She asked as she tugged at my shirtsleeve.
"Uh, I, uh..." I stammered.
"Let's hang out, yeah?" She invited.
"O-Okay..." I said as I noticed the guys glaring at me, "Those guys are giving me the Evil Eye, though."
"Tch, don't worry about them." Yukari waved, "They're only after me for my body... Ugh, so shallow... Not to mention annoying." She spat in disgust, "Anyway, what are we still doing here? Let's go!"
"Um... I'm waiting for Minako, but other than that, I-" I stammered.
"Oh, you poor thing..." She cooed.
"Thanks a lot..." I sighed in a sardonic way.
"I hope she comes soon." Yukari said as she held my arm, "I can tag along, yeah?"
Having no choice, I nodded.
Minako POV
Minako woke up and took a deep breath. Today promised to be a great, wonderful day for her. She was excited to tell Minato about how she really felt.
After she ate a breakfast of fried chicken and Froot Loops, she went up, only to discover her stomach was upset. She rushed to the bathromm and emptied her stomach on the toilet.
"What the hell...?" Minako gasped, "Ugh... On the bright side, none of what I ate is going to my hips... But then again, when does it ever happen...?"
She stood up, cleaned up, then had a shower and took her time in shampooing her hair, soaping up and rubbing lotion over her smooth skin in preparation. Even though she went on several 'dates' with Minato, this one was special, as seen with how she performed her pre-dating rituals like some sort of Priestess.
As she began to dress up, a voice from below called her, "Minako! Did you do your chores today?"
Somewhat annoyed, Minako cried back, "I don't have time for that, Kammie! I'm going out, so I'll do it later!"
"If you stay in this house, you have time for chores!" She cried back.
"Argh! Kammie!" She groaned as she texted Minato to go ahead, went down and performed her household chores, such as taking out the trash, mowing the lawn, watering the plants and washing the dishes. She never really had chores before, since her Auntie did them herself, but on the other hand, Minako wasn't well-taken care of.
After doing that, she cleaned up and went to the Esplanade as fast as she could.
Minato POV
Yukari and I walked towards the Ice Cream Vendor, who was a few meters away from us.
"So, you and Minako... Whew, you two are getting pretty serious, huh?" Yukari whistled.
"Well, I haven't said anything to her yet." I said, "I... Uh..."
She smiled fondly, "Same old Minato... You never changed."
"How about you?" I asked, "Is there anyone you've been eyeing lately? You've been getting prettier."
She laughed, "The way you say it makes me feel like some kind of hyena." She smiled, "Anyway, the answer's no. I'm not even interested with guys anymore..."
"Oh..." I faltered, "Uh... I'll support you."
"What?"
"Uh... A-Are you going... Yuri...?" I asked carefully.
"What? No!" She cried indignantly, "I'm not going lesbian! I... I just don't want to deal with men anymore at the moment, you know? Like an Amazon."
I nodded.
"With possible exceptions, of course." She added wryly as she winked at me.
Minako POV
Minako ran towards the Esplanade and saw Minato.
"Yo, Minato, sorry I'm-" she bit her tongue as she saw him walking with Yukari.
"Yukari...?!" She seethed, "Minako...You two-timing little shit!"
"I wonder what's taking Minako so long...? I'll go check. Wanna come with?" He asked her.
"I'll come along, thanks." She said.
Minako hid by the nearby bushes, "Why the hell am I even hiding...?" Brushing that thought aside, Minako decided to trail them.
Minato POV
Yukari and I were looking around as we found no sign of Minako. I had a nagging feeling that we were being followed.
I ignored the feeling and walked with Minako. After I while, I got impatient and decided to call Kamina.
"Hey, Kammie here. Wassap?" Kamina answered.
"Hey Kammie. This is Minato." I said.
"Oh, hey!" She said cheerfully, "How's it going?"
"Everything's good. Anyway, have you seen Minako? I've been waiting for her."
"Say what? Hamu left a while ago, in a big hurry too." She said.
"Is that so...?" I mused, "Did I miss her somehow?"
"I don't know if we did." Yukari said, "We've been here the whole time."
"My advice? Look around some more. Hamu might have seen a corn stall and couldn't resist to buy a cob."
"Thanks Kammie. See you around." I said as she hung up.
"Well, let's not waste any more time stading around and gawking at the sea. Let's go!" Yukari said as she grabbed my arm.
We began looking around.
"That's wierd. Where could she be?" I wondered aloud.
"Let's check out over there." She suggested.
"Okay."
Minako POV
Minako quickly hid behind a post as she spied on the two. Seeing Minato hanging out with Yukari when he clearly promised a day with her only served to infuriate her.
She kept her distance, but stayed within an earshot.
"Hey, Minato!" Yukari cried as Minato was walking quickly, "Slow down!"
"Sorry." Minato said as he slowed down a little.
"I said slow down!" She said as she held on to his arm, "Girls can't walk as fast as guys, you know."
Minako gritted her teeth in anger, "I can't believe him! They're even walking hand in hand!"
Minako decided to just wait and see what happens to them.
Minato POV
Yukari squeezed my arm as we looked for Minako.
"Hey, can you stop grabbing my arm that way?" I asked, "N-Not that its bothering me, but those guys are really glaring at me."
Yukari looked at the boys nearby and wore an expression as if she was sniffing dung, "Ugh! Forget them!" She spat, "But... Yeah, Minako would be angry if she sees us."
"W-What...?" I said, turning glacial.
"Don't lie!" She snickered.
"I-I... I don't know where you're going with this-"
"Come on! Its written all over your face!" She teased as I turned around and blushed.
Yukari grabbed my arm again as I looked at her in shock.
"Oh, come on, don't be such a stiff." She chided, "Anyway, those guys won't stop hitting on me. So please..." She squeezed my arm, "Pretend to be my boyfriend for a while, yeah?"
I sighed as I allowed it. Yukari smiled smugly as she clung on. She was always different than Minako. With Minako, I feel at peace and I can let my guard down, but with Yukari... I always had to prepare what she'd spring on me, or how her mood would suddenly change. Like dating a tornado, which was exciting, but very tiring.
"What am I thinking?!" I cried in my mind, "I don't need Yukari! Minako's all I need!"
Minako POV
"Fuck this shit!" Minako spat, "Hmmph! She's got her hands all over him! Again!" Minako angrily kicked a branch into the Esplanade, which got in between a bike spoke and causing the rider to fall off into the river.
"Sorry Junpei!" Minako cried.
"I'm okay!" Junpei cried as the bike fell on top of him, "I'm still okay!" Then, the branch fell and hit him on the head, "Less okay..." He moaned.
Setting her sights on Minato, she cried, "I don't even care anymore!" Then, she smirked, "But there's no way I can let Minato fall victim to that little nymph, Yukari!
"I know it sucks... But I love Minato too much to allow this to happen." She said to herself.
"Hit the ground running!" Junpei cheered as he nursed a contusion to the head.
"Thank you, Junpei." Minako said as she set out.
Minato POV
"Where is she...?" I mused to myself as Yukari suddenly pointed her finger at something.
"Oooh, that place has some really sweet ice cream!" She cried, "Let's go have some!"
She ran ahead when I nodded and ordered two, "Oh, I forgot my wallet... Do you take credit? No? Aw..."
"You're using a credit card to buy ice cream?!" I cried.
"Gimme a break. I spent all my money buying food for my sister. I was about to withdraw some until I saw you."
"I can pay for it!" A random guy cried as he hands the money over to the vendor and eagerly waited for Yukari's thanks.
"Sure!" I said, "Thanks!" I said as I winked at him.
Yukari giggled as we walked away, "Well, it was nice of him to pay for that."
"But was it okay?" I asked.
"He probably just got that from his parents." Yukari surmised.
Minako POV
"Ugh! That lying little man-whore! He promised to eat ice cream with me!" Minako thought angrily, "Stupid Minato!" She kicked a can and walked as it landed on top of Lee's head.
"Ow! What the-" Lee hissed as looked around frantically, "Minako? Oh! Minako! Nice glow!"
"Lee!" Fuuka cried.
Minako turned around, "What...?"
"Oh, uh... You aren't... you know...?" Lee stammered, "Having bumps?"
"What are you talking about?" Minako asked.
"Nevermind!" Lee said quickly, "Pretend I didn't say anything!" He said as he and Fuuka left quietly.
Minako suddenly realized something. It was impossible, but it somehow was. She decided to ixnay with the date for now and to check on a calendar. Something was terribly wrong, evident in her early morning stomach upset, mood swings and general feeling of fury.
Minato POV
"Want some of mine?" Yukari asked as she offered her cone, "The guy gave me enough for two."
"No thanks." I said, "My stomach's been feeling kinda strange right now."
"Heh..." Yukari giggled, "Sure you don't miss Minako?"
Sigh... Yukari's so mean...
"Well, anyway, I've got to go home and cook." Yukari said, "But Minato... I've had a dream last night and... I saw the future."
"Hehehe... So, you're an Oracle now? Did Fuuka share her secrets to you? Should I call you 'Yulari, Princess of Dreams'?" I joked.
Her face, however, was dead serious, "I know exactly what will happen to you and Minako."
She then advanced close to me, "And things won't go well. Reverse Lovers Arcana, Upright Tower Arcana and Upright Moon Arcana. You love will be troubled by the superficial wall you two put up and a great catastrophe will occur between your love life."
I gazed on her, mouth agape as I laughed nervously, "What are you talking about...? Hehehe, am I on one of those hidden camera shows? All right, Japan, I'm an idiot!" I looked around for a hidden camera, "I'll get you for this, you guys!"
Yukari didn't move, "No matter how great your love will be, Minato, the only way for you two to be truly together will be through... Death."
I suddenly became glacial.
"You two... are just not meant for each other." She said ominously as she walked away. As if to accent her foreshadowing message, the sky grew darker.
I quickly composed myself as I turned around and yelped in shock at the sudden appearance of someone strikingly familiar.
"I am sorry for startling you." she said. It was Cato's old secretary, Lucy.
"Oh... You... You're Lucy." I said in recognition.
"Yes. But formally, I am Lucilyle Aketchi, Seneschal of the former Head of the Romano Clan. I have come to confer my fallen Lord's Last Will and Testament." She pulls out a piece of paper, "And I quote... Be it remembered that I, Cato Proteus Alexis Romano, a resident of Iwatodai City, located in Honshu Island, Japan, being of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, and mindful of the uncertainties of this life, do hereby make, publish and declare this document as my Last Will and Testament, and hereby revoke all former wills and testaments or writings and codicils thereto, and hereby bequeath all of my property, inheritance and birthright and hereby name Minato Arisato as my sole Heir and Successor on this 10th day of January, of the year 2011."
I was almost moved to tears. Lucy, however, remained stoic, "In short, Milord, you are now the Leader of the Romano Clan... Or should say... Arisato Clan? You own at least 2.6 Billion Euros."
I nodded, "I'd give it all to bring them all back."
"Well, you can't." She said bluntly, "Be careful with that lady, Yukari."
"Why?"
"Because... I know its not my place to speak, but a day before my Lord's demise, she was arguing with him on account his involvement with being the host of the barbecue. Then, she stormed away. I imposed upon myself to follow her and eventually caught her in an alley, speaking to a hooded man, or rather, The Hood, as they call him. Later, he threatened my Master at his residence. He refused to give you up. On the next day, he..." She began to choke up with tears.
"Its okay." I comforted her.
"Many thanks." She said as she regained her composure, "I am of the same opinion that man was the one who slew my Master's Sire and Mother. But I am not sure where her loyalties lie. Be careful, lest you end up like my beloved Master."
She looked at something as I followed her gaze. Looking, or rather, glaring at us was Yukari. I cringed at her ferocious glare, but Lucy remained as motionless as a rock, meeting her glare as Yukari moved away.
"Have a good day, now." She said and left without another word.
I stood there, Billions wealthier but probably the most confused guy in the world.
Minako POV
I checked the the calendar... One... Two... Three...
"No..." Minako sobbed. Her life was now practically ruined now. But how ruined could it be? Was it a blessing in disguise?
Her rational mind was scared. Scared that she would be alone forever and to care for an extra burden.
She knew that she could give it away, but there was still a few months left. She could never bring it on herself to do so. It would be a part of Minato, someone that she loved more than anyone else, no matter how stupid he was.
That's where the other half of her stood. It would be theirs. The thought of that brought a smile to her.
Not knowing what to do, she turned off her phone, locked the door to Narda and went to bed early.
A/N: Done with this chapter. The next one will be much more dramatic, and much less confusing than this.
