You could be Happy

Chapter 1:

Children's minds are bursting with raw imagination and joy, they are always the heroes and heroines of their own stories. They cast themselves as enchanting princesses, dragon slaying knights and indestructible superheroes. Eponine was no different until her 7th birthday when dear old granny went ahead and dropped dead, and before she took her last breath. She whispered something to Eponine.

"Life happens for some people and to others...you're the other", as a child she didn't understand what that meant, but as an adult it became clear she was destined to play a supporting role even in her own story.

The men she loved didn't love her, the jobs she applied for rejected her, each moment of happiness seeped right through her fingers, but still she smiled because if she cried she might not stop.

"Hello, yes this is Eponine speaking, who's this...oh hello...yes I applied a few months ago…what…I got it ... I really got the job…oh my god thank you, thank you so much yes ...yes ...I'll be there in the morning", Eponine's trembling fingers just managed to slip her phone back into her coat pocket as she breathed in the cool November air, she allowed a little optimism to settle in her heart.

Walking around the city Eponine tried to think of the last time things had fallen in order, it'd been far too long, walking up the stairs to her one bedroom apartment she really wished she had to someone to go home to, they didn't even need to talk, just to able to hear someone breathing would be enough. Personal space was so overrated.

Eyelids flickering open, Eponine took a deep breath; this was a fresh start and she was taking a moment to bask in it. Slipping into her most comfortable jeans, she decided to pair it with a pretty pink blouse she bought on a day she wanted to feel pretty but never got around to, brushing her long black waves she felt ready for the day ahead.

Letting out a large sigh Eponine's fingers tightened around her bag strap, before she took those important steps into her future.

"hi, I'm here for a PA job for Enjolras- "

"Ugh another one…why do they keep sending these girls, they never last long... here's your temporary ID, go up to the 9th floor fill out the form with human resources your new ID will be ready in a few days, then head up to the 12th floor, wait in the office to the right, your client will be there soon, got that", said the receptionist sneering. Eponine vaguely nodded as she took her ID.

Eponine's legs were shaking as she sat waiting for her new boss, she wasn't sure what she'd be doing.

"I won't do it…I'm no one's second choice" the angry voice entered the room accompanied by sky blue eyes and blonde locks. "who are you?" jumping up Eponine stumbled forward.

"I'm your new PA Ep-", cool eyes trailed the length of her body before resting on her eyes.

"-Well at least your face is better than the last one" taking a deep breath Eponine steadied herself, the gaze in her eyes changing.

"Well that was a strange way of introducing yourself...But hello to you too", scoffing Enjolras leaned back against the desk

"Do you have an attitude problem", Eponine's eyes widened as she smiled sheepishly biting her tongue.

"Sorry...you just caught me off guard"

"Hmm..doesn't matter you won't be here in a week" shrugging he slowly made his way towards her trapping her between his body heat and the wall.

"Or if you prefer we could go to my hotel room and end everything today",

"Eponine .. "

"What ?"

"Thats my name…"

"Enjolras we've talked about this.." an new voice startled them,

"I'm just kidding round, keep your hair on Blake." turning on his heel Enjolras walked away leaving an awkward silence, Eponine, and a man called Blake.

"I'm Enjolras' manager call be Blake, now Eponine was it?...listen very carefully you are to be his eyes and ears, whatever he wants you give it to him but also not, our little star has an image to uphold so while doing your standard duty as a PA, also keep crazy fangirls away, avoid him getting into any scandals, keep a check on his temper, make sure he's well fed, happy and on time for shoots ...okay", the Cheshire like grin gave his words a sinister edge.

"Okay", Eponine heard herself utter,

"Now run along will you…"she didn't miss the patronising tone of his voice.

The next day she felt ready, strolling into the office she went straight up to the 12th floor, sitting cross legged was the blonde Adonis, she placed down a coffee next to him.

"What's this?"

"it's your favourite, a mix of Colombian and Kenyan beans, a drop of cream and 1 tablespoon of honey", Enjolras raised an eyebrow as he picked up the cup and inhaled.

"Why are looking at me like that, do you want a gold star", biting her tongue she smiled.

"Is it that hard to say Thank you", Eponine muttered under breath

"What was that", grabbing her wrist Enjolras yanked her closer as he stood up.

" Are you itching to get fired , you don't have to like me...but you have to respect me as your boss, if you ever mutter in front of me again, you're fired"

I'm sorry I overstepped...we should get going you have a commercial in half an hour, Blake and the van are waiting".

As they made their way along the expensive marble Eponine took in everything, the way his long legs strode, the bounce of his curls, the steely gaze in his eyes, and the stares of everyone around him, like they wanted to mob him but didn't dare.

"How is she?", asked Blake attentively, Enjolras tilted his head and looked at Eponine with a smirk.

"she's a sarky little bitch", the van fell into silence .

"Erm do you want me to find someone else-",

"No ..she's had her warning" he murmured leaning back and closing his eyes, the rest of the trip was relatively quiet.

The studio was brilliant, Enjolras went straight into makeup and wardrobe, when he came out, Eponine had an elderflower cordial in her hand for him, he took it with a raised eyebrow.

"I heard it helps you relax", Enjolras just smirked before downing it and giving her the empty cup.

"Now everyone remember to be on your best behaviour; the CEO is visiting the shoot today", Blake stated coolly.

"Down boy, no need to be so intimidating ..I'm just a guy who signs the checks", everyone turned to the smooth voice attached to warm hazel eyes.

Eponine dropped the cup.
