Astrid's POV (annoying parents)

This is so annoying - I've never done a thing wrong at school and now, just because my parents are getting rid of the mice infestation and I try to look after my pet, I am in soooo much trouble. Mr Gardner pauses and carries on lecturing.

"Now, as I'm sure you already know, this cannot go unpunished. I am forced to suspend you both for a period of 2 days and all month in after school detention. Your parents have been informed and are on their way to pick you up now."

Great. I'm dead now. My dad is a bit possessive/pushy and this is NOT going to go down well….

We walk out of his office in silence, head drooping, the image of people who don't get told off and have done something wrong. I wonder why… Eventually, we get to the office and sign out, my dad is waiting in the car park. Hades. He looks - angry. Very, very, super, journey home is very awkward. Once we get home, he bursts into a similar rant to Mr Gardner's - actually, it's the exact same. Do they have a manual on how to be scary or what?! Anyway, he rounds it off with a spiel about being grounded for a year and no pocket money. Also, we get work while I'm suspended so I have to do it plus a ton more which he has in some ancient textbook. Joy. The one thing he's forgotten to confiscate, is my phone. Probably because it's half dead and buried somewhere but still… Maybe I can get Hiccup's number off someone and then we can commiserate in torment!

Book Hiccup's POV (Angry phone calls)

My Dad's late. Which doesn't surprise me, he's the Co-Mayor of Stedale and is always busy, with his Co-Mayorly duties, so he can't get much time off work. He's going to be really, really, really annoyed when he gets here. My Mother definitely can't make it, she's always away on some business trip or other, and this month she's in Antarctica (the middle of Antarctica, please note) doing who knows what. So she definitely can't come to pick me up. I walk over to a bench near the car park and get out my book, Sophie's World, starting to read. After a few chapters, my Dad still hasn't come, and I begin to worry. I check my watch, he's thirty minutes late. Oh thumbnails of Thor I think to myself this day just keeps getting better and better. 45 minutes late. I put my book back in my bag and head towards the office, where I ask to call my Dad. I know his number off by heart, and I put it in. The phone rings out and I try again, after 3 rings, someone picks up the phone. "Hello?" says the voice at the other end of the phone "This is Stoick Horrendous Haddock, Co-Mayor of Stedale, who is this?"

"Hi Dad" I say, somewhat timidly, he really does have a rather imposing voice, even if you can't see the rest of him.

"Oh, it's you" he says, and immediately launches into a torrent of shouting and lecturing, I guess he got the phone call then. Apparently he was in a very important meeting, and he's not too pleased that I managed to disturb it!

"Are you going to pick me up from school?" I ask.

"What do you think?" and it sounds like he slams the receiver down at his end. I sigh, and say thank you to the office ladies. Then I make my way out of the school gates and start trudging home.
