"Before getting into the deep stuff, let's talk about the basics. Where we're you born?" Sasuke replied with the sass of a confident child. "In Konoha, of course." The man nodded and wrote something down.
After discussing a few more things like whether Sasuke's birth was stable, what clan he was part of, and questions about school, they started to get into the harder questions. "What were your parents' names?" 'Were.' Sasuke was confused but then he assumed they got him mixed up with the wrong person.
Hopefully, no one was framing him by posing as him and comitting crimes. He was confident with this idea. It was simpler that way. When they realized he was an Uchiha who would never ruin his clan's name through crime, they would let him go.
"Mikoto Uchiha and Fugaku Uchiha." The room shifted with interest. Was Sasuke back to his regular self? Then, they noticed the look on the teeager''s face. He was describing his family without sorrow or anger.
No. This couldn't be the Sasuke who was triggered into anger and pain with the names of his dead family. "My older brother's name is Itachi." He talked about Itachi as if misery wasn't associated with the name. It was confirmed; this most certainly wasn't the Sasuke they knew.
Sasuke noticed the mix of emotions in the air but ignored it as he simply couldn't decide what the confusion was about. "Ibiki," someone addressed the man investigating Sasuke, "we only have an hour left." The man investigating Sasuke - Ibiki - nodded once.
"Sasuke. What was your teacher's name?" "Iruka." Ibiki nodded. He thought he knew what personality this was. Before making a final decision as to what personality this was, he questioned Sasuke some more.
"What is your relationship with your father like?" Sasuke looked frustrated at the question. "I want to make him notice me." "And your mother?" He puffed out his cheeks. "She always babies me." He pouted. Ibiki couldn't help but to sadly smile.
Sasuke clearly loved his family. It was a shame that any of this had had to happen. If only the Leaf had been able to stop the massacre from happening... Ibiki cleared his mind. Emotions shouldn't mix with work. He needed to keep his emotions out of this.
Ibiki was aware that certain situations and phrases could trigger people with multiple personalities into one of their other personalities. He didn't want to question Sasuke about the massacre but there were a lot of things he had to do that he didn't want to.
Tsunade required him to ask Sasuke about his knowledge of the massacre so he would. "Sasuke. Have you heard of the Uchiha Clan Massacre?"
Sasuke hadn't expected such a question. The Uchiha Clan Massacre? For a split second, familiarity crossed his mind. Before the familiarity could manifest fully, a terrible headache overwhelmed Sasuke. Before he could remember anything about the massacre, he passed out.
Sasuke woke up again.
He took in his surroundings and faced Ibiki. He remembered this man from the Chunin exams and narrowed his eyes. From the look of things, he was being investigated. He closed his eyes. No way was he answering the Leaf's questions.
They were betrayers. Kakashi had told him, Sakura, and Naruto all about caring for your team. But he was lying. The Leaf didn't care. Not when they made one of their own murder his own clan. The Leaf deserved no respect of any kind and acknowledgement meant respect. He wouldn't acknowledge the Leaf. Never again.
Ibiki came to the conclusion that the Sasuke he was talking toast was the Sasuke before the Uchiha Massacre.
Ibiki wasn't sure who he was talking to this time so he just proceeded with the investigation after asking Sasuke his name again. "My name is Sasuke Uchiha." He put an emphasis on 'Uchiha.' After that, Sasuke completely ignored any and every question Ibiki asked.
If Tsunade really wanted the answers, they'd resort to torture. If she wanted to earn Sasuke's trust before asking him these questions again, she would let him build relationships with people before questioning again. It all depended on whether she needed the questions now or not.
Ibiki sent one of his guards to ask Tsunade whether she wanted torture or not.
10 minutes later, the guard reported back to Ibiki and whispered something in his ear. Sasuke didn't care about the conversation enough to eavesdrop. Ibiki nodded to the guard. "It seems Tsunade can wait for answers until you're mentally fit."
Sasuke didn't appreciate that people who ordered a young teenager to kill his entire clan were killing him 'mentally unfit.' He glared at Ibiki. Ibiki gave a signal and the guards put his blindfold and handcuffs back on.
He could escape the handcuffs with little to no problem but he needed to hear from Madara first. This was all a part of the plan. If he was patient enough, he'd follow through with it. If he was feeling impatient, he might attack without warning. It depended on how he was feeling in the moment.
The next few days passed with no investigating. The fourth day, Sasuke was released from jail. That came with much surprise, although he'd never show it. It came as less of a surprise when Tsunade told him why.
Apparently, he was released early because they wanted to get rid of his multiple personalities and make him become one again through fixing his problems. Sasuke just refused to admit he was broken. He wasn't surprised that being released meant being followed by ANBU at all times and living with Kakashi.
They trusted Kakashi to be able to fight Sasuke if it came to it. But Sasuke knew there was more to it than that. They wanted Sasuke to bond with Kakashi. It was going to happen, he'd convinced himself. He would never trust anyone in the Leaf Village again.
Kakashi seemed happy that his student was home but sad that he was so broken. What had Madara done to him? He didn't forget about Sasuke's time with Orochimaru either, though. For all they knew, he started developing this disorder while being with Orochimaru.
Kakashi sighed.
He helped Sasuke move in and tried to make sure he was comfortable. When he asked Sasuke how he was doing, he ignored him. Sasuke's team wasn't out of jail yet but they would also move in with Kakashi after their release.
They clearly saw Kakashi as one of the strongest shinobi so as to trust him with 4 strong ninja with some ANBU as backup. Sasuke understood that Kakashi was strong but did they know how strong he, himself was?
No; they didn't. They could only assume his strengths based on his fights with both Deidara and Itachi but they didn't know the true extent of his power. This was a huge advantage. Because of this, they were less careful because they assumed his power level was the same as everyone else his age.
All of that said, Sasuke had a huge disadvantage; he was triggered into other personalities easily.
Kakashi sensed Sasuke's feeling of hostility towards him. This was unlike his student. Sasuke had no reason to hate him. At some point, Kakashi even considered asking Sasuke why he had a hate towards him but he didn't want to trigger Sasuke into one of his other personalities until he was ready.
Because of his obvious hate towards Kakashi, there was tension in the air. The tension became awkward at times. Kakashi continued to treat Sasuke as if he was still his student not because he didn't want to trigger Sasuke but rather because he truly saw Sasuke as his student still.
In some ways, Kakashi blamed himself for Sasuke hating him. He should've done better as his sensei by getting Sasuke in time before he'd left the village. He could only imagine what Sasuke had witnessed and experienced while with Orochimaru.
It wasn't a secret that Orochimaru looked at Sasuke strange. As if he was a beautiful doll. Kakashi felt sick thinking about it and looked over to Sasuke who was sitting on the couch reading. He was glad Sasuke was safe from all of that now.
An hour later of silent reading, Kakashi felt like being helpful. He got up, put his book down, and walked over to Sasuke. "Sasuke," he said. He wasn't sure if Sasuke was actively ignoring him or just too focused on his book to notice.
Kakashi assumed it was the first one so he continued talking. "What are your triggers?" Sasuke ignored him at first. Then, for some reason, he actually answered. "It's none of your business but any type of abuse, mention of the massacre, talk of Itachi being a bad person, extreme torture, etc."
Sasuke only answered because he'd appreciate it if Kakashi didn't trigger him into one of his other personalities. As for how he knew what his triggers were, he only knew from what his team had told him. In a strange way, he missed his team.
His team had respected him and avoided most topics that triggered Sasuke. Sasuke closed his eyes, thinking. If his team wasn't released soon, he'd have to release them himself. The world felt different without them.
Sasuke was never the type to like change and after traveling with his team for nearly a year, he'd gotten used to them. They were a part of his daily routine. He wasn't ready for things to change dramatically enough for them to leave yet.
Kakashi took note of Sasuke's triggers and made sure only to trigger Sasuke when it was apart of his therapy. Since there was not much known about multiple personalities, the only therapy they did were things they hoped would help.
They assumed getting Sasuke to work out his past traumas would heal him but they needed to do so carefully so as not to trigger him so much that he changed personalities. Depending on how much trauma and how many personalities Sasuke had, this could take a while.
Even though Konoha was a considerably good sized city, they had no counselors who specialized in dealing with multiple personalities. Even if they did, they knew Sasuke likely wouldn't talk to a stranger about his past. So, that left Team 7.
Team 7 were likely the only ones that had even the slightest chance of getting through to all of Sasuke's personalities. Even the original personality. But even though they had a chance of getting through to him, they only had a slight chance. That was why it could take a while.
After a week of Sasuke staying with Kakashi, Kakashi was finally given the order to start with earning Sasuke's trust. Naruto, Sakura, Sai, and Yamato were out on a mission, so Naruto and Sakura couldn't join.
That was fine, though, as Kakashi would be most relatable to Sasuke and he'd possibly open up to him the best. Earning Sasuke's trust was hypothetically an easy mission but once you got to actually meet the cold late teen, it was much more complicated than you'd think.
Kakashi hated the idea of triggering Sasuke but that was the only way he'd meet and earn each of the personalities' trust. Before triggering Sasuke into one of the other personalities, Kakashi tried talking to Sasuke himself; the original.
"Sasuke. It's time for us to work on your mind." Sasuke looked at Kakashi once and then looked back down at his book, ignoring him. Kakashi eventually got frustrated and gave up on him. He could work on him later.
If Sasuke didn't want help, he wouldn't force him.
Sasuke wasn't sure what personality was triggered by what so he sat next to Sasuke and asked him about Orochimaru. He hadn't stated Orochimaru as one of his triggers but he hadn't listed all of his triggers either. Kakashi simply assumed that Orochimaru would trigger him into one of his personalities.
He was right. Sasuke pressed his right hand to his head and groaned in pain. Then, he passed out. And woke up again 7 minutes later. Kakashi wasn't sure which personality he was faced with so he let Sasuke speak first.
"Kakashi," the boy said, flirty. "How are you?" His eyes were seductive. It was Raven. Kakashi really didn't want to deal with this but he had to. For both the sake of Sasuke and the sake of the village. Kakashi prepared himself and got comfortable because this was going to be long.
"Raven. Can you tell me about your time with Orochimaru?" Raven's eyes opened wide. He clearly hadn't expected Kakashi to ask him something like that. "I thought you were different," he cried out.
Kakashi was confused. What had he said to upset the boy? Kakashi walked up to Raven to calm him down but when he touched his arm, he freaked out and fearfully yelled, "stop it!" His eyes were filled with fear. He looked as if he was an animal trapped by a hunter.
Kakashi put his hands down and into his pockets. Raven immediately relaxed. He calmed down enough to sit back on the couch, even though his back was still tensed. Kakashi sat back down too and the room filled with silence.
Raven spoke into the void of silence, requesting something that answered many of Kakashi's questions. "Can you just fuck me? Can you punish me?" Raven used sex as a self punishment which meant that in reality, he actually didn't like sex at all.
Raven only projected that he liked to sleep around because he felt he deserved to do, even though he hated it. Ultimately, he hated himself so much that he punished himself through sex. Even though it wasn't said, the fact that this personality was triggered by Orochimaru meant that Sasuke couldn't take Orochimaru anymore.
But why couldn't he?
Raven had answered that question by admitting he saw sex as a punishment. In other words, the assumptions about Sasuke being Orochimaru's favorite "pet" were true. Kakashi wanted to make his boundaries with Raven clear.
"I'm going to tell you this slowly so you'll understand it: I will never have sex with you."
And Raven cried for two opposite reasons. One, because he felt rejected and two, because he was so relieved by the fact that Kakashi would supposedly never touch him. 'Supposedly' because he'd been promised that before. Raven tried not to remember that.
Kakashi and Raven sat down across from each other. Raven felt tears coming to his eyes and tried everything he could to hold them in. When he finally got himself (his emotions) under control, Kakashi continued with the therapy.
"Raven. Did Orochimaru ever... Touch you?" Raven gave him a look with teary eyes that said, "yes." Kakashi looked down. He had failed as a teacher. Sasuke had no one to protect him while he was with Orochimaru so Orochimaru took advantage of him.
"Are you aware that you have multiple personalities?" Asked Kakashi. Raven nodded. "Sasuke's team told me." He was clearly uncomfortable with referring to one of his other selves. Kakashi nodded once. "Would you like something to drink?"
Raven nodded. "Tea, please." Kakashi walked to the kitchen and prepared some tea. When Kakashi got back, Raven explained his purpose in life. "I know that my only purpose is to protect Sasuke from his memories of abuse."
Kakashi wanted to tell him that he had other purpose in life too but he realized that personalities were created to protect the original. Their purposes truly were only to help Sasuke out. Raven stood up. "I need to make money while I'm here."
"Why?" Asked Kakashi. "So I can make a living. So I won't be leaching off of you." That would never work out, though, as the village looked down on Sasuke because he wore the Akatsuki uniform. It would be a while before he gained his reputation back.
Raven walked to the door. "Wait. Where are you going?" "To look for a job." Kakashi looked surprised. "Already? But we haven't finished talking." Raven didn't care and opened the door, leaving Kakashi in the house.
Kakashi sighed. At least his assumptions were confirmed to be true. He wasn't finished and Raven wasn't going to get out of this conversation. He'd just continue with him later.
When later came, Raven was nowhere to be seen. Kakashi checked the house to make sure he wasn't there before going out to find the boy. It soon grew to be nighttime and Raven still wasn't back. I
If anything happened to Raven, the ANBU would help him. (Or would they even care enough about him to save his life? He hoped so.) Regardless, Kakashi had to find Raven himself. For reassurance.
Kakashi ran all around the town, hoping to find Raven somewhere, anywhere when he checked the downtown alley of Konoha. He didn't expect to see Raven there but he shouldn't have been surprised.
Kakashi found Raven in the alley behind buildings giving some guy a blowjob. Kakashi ran up to Raven and excused himself. "Sorry but he isn't supposed to be here." The man just nodded and walked away, finding someone else to mess around with.
"What are you doing?" Asked Kakashi. "I'm 18. I got a job. Legally. There's nothing you can do about it." Kakashi wanted to object but he knew there really was nothing he could legally do about it.
"Please come home." Raven sighed and then nodded, agreeing.
They got home and Kakashi made dinner. It was chicken and white rice. Kakashi and Raven sat down to eat. Raven waited for a lecture but Kakashi just sat there, quietly eating. Raven couldn't take the awkwardness of the situation and apologised.
"I'm sorry." Kakashi stopped eating. "Are you really?" Raven thought about it. "No," he replied. Kakashi sighed. "I just don't want anything to happen to you." Raven nodded, feeling scolded.
"Sorry," he said again. Kakashi stood up, nodded, and cleaned the food up before walking to the living room so they could continue with therapy. "Do you feel comfortable with sharing any of your memories with Orochimaru?"
Raven shook his head. "Not right now." He took a shaky breath. "I'm not comfortable with it." Kakashi nodded. That was fine. He figured earning the personalities' trust would take a while anyway.
The day was long. Kakashi would meet the other personality(s) tomorrow.
