Several days later the boulder blocking the cave moves revealing daylight, Oliver squints the light hurting his eyes. Yao Fei walks in and places a large canister of water at Oliver's feet. "Where you been?"
Yao Fei nods slightly in amusement, "you're not dead. Good."
"I ran out of food and water days ago." Oliver informs. Yao Fei heads for the cave exit before stopping.
"The experience makes you stronger." Yao Fei moves over to his makeshift workbench and drops his bow and quiver. "Get up."
Oliver looks confused, "What?" A knife penetrated the ground beside Oliver's head. Oliver looks down at the knife and back up at Yao Fei, "What?"
Yao Fei sits down on a rock pointing his silver dagger at Oliver, "you want survive, learn a way you will." Oliver pulls the knife out of the ground getting to his feet and ducks as Yao Fei swipes at his neck. Oliver staggers back before Yao Fei swings vertically for Oliver's chest. Oliver picks up Yao Fei's pace and luckily blocks the dagger with his knife, suddenly in a blur Yao Fei swipes his dagger across Oliver's foreman, the playboy letting out a loud hiss in pain. Yao Fei steps back twirling his dagger, "fighters move at same pace, switch it up though them of their game."
Yao Fei takes the knife from Oliver going over to the bird he caught earlier and starts to pluck the feathers while Oliver sits down holding his forearm. Yao Fei glances at Oliver pointing at the bucket, "drink. Breathe." Oliver pulls out Laurel's picture from his pocket oblivious to the disapproving look from Yao Fei, "forget her. Survive not dream."
Oliver looks at Yao Fei watching him cook their food in silence.
Once the food is cooked Yao Fei passes Oliver a stick and sits down across the cave opposite Oliver studying the boy, he looks roughly the same age as his daughter Shado. Yao Fei pities the boy but knows Oliver will not survive unless he learns some rough lessons. He hasn't seen his daughters in years and only hopes they are having a good life, happy with someone.
Finishing his meal Yao Fei throws the wooden stick in the fire and with a quick glance sees the boy doing the same, "rest. More work tomorrow." Oliver closes his eyes and Yao Fei studies his face, the struggle and pain.
The next morning Yao Fei leaves before Oliver wakes up going out to hunt. When Oliver wakes up later he looks around the cave noticing Yao Fei is gone. Oliver climbs onto his feet still in pain from the torture.
Yao Fei comes back in and roughly throws Edward Fyers on the floor.
Oliver sits up with rage across his face, "you!" Oliver growls punching Edward as the mercenary gets onto his knees. Oliver goes for another punch but is stopped by Yao Fei, pushing Oliver away. "He's the one that had me tortured on that sicko! I would have been killed if you hadn't shown up!"
"Then kill him," Yao Fei offers, holding out his serrated dagger. "Or he can take you home."
"What?"
Yao Fei crouches at Edward Fyers' head, sliding his dagger down his face without breaking the skin, "can you home. He has a plane."
Oliver stares at Fyers, "and how exactly?"
Yao Fei grips Fyers hair pulling him up, "he will take us to it." Yao Fei cuffs Fyers' wrists before dragging him out of the cave with Oliver following behind closely. Yao Fei passes Oliver the same knife from last night, "prepare to fight and breathe."
Yao Fei stays in front on guard for any ambushes from Fyers' men as he leads Fyers and Oliver through the forest, the boy walking beside Fyers timidly with the knife in hand.
" I can see you're a good man behind the privileged upbringing and the wealthy veneer.." Edward glances at Oliver, "when I had you tortured by my associate but you didn't give him up," nodding at Yao Fei in front. "A man you've just met."
"Shut out," Oliver whispers, his arms nearly hugging himself, Fyers' words replaying the horrible event in his head.
Edward scoffs, "nothing." Fyers hobbles through the path in the forest, "do you know what this island is? It's a prison, purgatory for dangerous criminals." Oliver tightens his hold on the knife, looking down at the ground but listening closely. "I mean this literally. Eight years ago the Chinese military utilised this island for separating criminals too dangerous for the mainland. Criminals like your friend Yao Fei, unfortunately he escaped our grasp"
"What happened to them?" Oliver questions, looking weak.
"My team came in to dispose of the residents. Except two.."
Oliver grabs Fyers' collar holding him in place, "who was the other?"
"You've met him," Fyers coldly replies. "He led the interrogation, the information I needed."
Oliver's arms are clamped to his side, "he tortured me."
"What would you do in my position…? Besides, you survived. You should feel proud."
"Proud?" Oliver repeats. "Of being tortured?"
Fyers stares into Oliver's eyes coldly, "no. That you survived." Yao Fei stops and looks over his shoulder at Fyers. "What would you be willing to do, to capture a man who's killed hundreds of people?"
Oliver grabs Fyers and shoves him forwards, "move."
Thirty minutes later the group comes to a stop and Yao Fei pulls out a radio, pressing the activation button as he holds the radio close to Fyers' mouth. "Tell them to bring the plane."
Edward Fyers snorts, "there's no need Yao Fei...my people will be here shortly." Fyers said smugly. Yao Fei scans the area for more on high alert. "Was it not convenient you captured me so easily?" Fyers' associate walks out from behind a tree staring directly at Yao Fei.
"Go!" Yao Fei orders.
"What?" Oliver asked.
"Run!" Yao Fei orders in a shout pulling up his hood as the assassin draws his sword storming towards the archer. Several of Fyers' mercenaries jump out from behind trees and rocks having assault rifles aimed at Yao Fei. Oliver's eyes widen before running in the opposite direction as Yao Fei meets the assassin head on.
Yao Fei blocks his opponent's blade with his bow as he aims for the man's head. The assassin ducks and swings his blade arm around aiming for Yao Fei's chest. Yao Fei drops to the ground in a roll coming back onto his feet in time to block the blade descending on his chest.
Oliver spreads bushes out the way as he clumsily runs through the wood. Oliver clumsily running helps him dodge the bullets a mercenary fires at him. While Yao Fei strikes the assassin's chest with his bow drops the man to one knee. He wraps a leg around the man's neck and under his arm, rolling the man across the floor as he fires an arrow at the mercenary shooting at Oliver, the arrow going through his back.
The assassin escapes Yao Fei's grasp and gets back into his feet, charging forwards with his sword in hand. Yao Fei nocks an arrow and draws back the bowstring, firing at Fyers' associate but was deflected by the blade, twirling on his feet the assassin uses the momentum to strike down at Yao Fei. Yao Fei gets onto his knees holding the bow up with both hands intercepting the sword. The assassin counters with a boot to the chest sending Yao Fei across the ground and crashing into a tree.
The assassin twirls his sword as he marches up to Yao Fei and four more mercenaries surround him. The assassin smashes the hilt of his sword against Yao Fei's face, knocking him out as his head snaps to the side. As Yao Fei crumbles to the ground two mercenaries grab Yao Fei and drag him away. The assassin turns his head to where Oliver ran off, looking directly at Oliver's location ordering a soldier after him before walking after the men.
Oliver's mouth is wide open in fear as he stares at where Yao Fei, his saviour had once been. Not wanting to stick around Oliver turns and runs deeper into the forest.
Later on Oliver crouches down and thrusts his knife into the ground and finding the correct stone Oliver makes spark lighting the twigs beside the blade. Oliver stays crouched rubbing his hands to keep warm as the sky's opened up with water.
Oliver looks up and around the area after hearing the sound of moving branches and footsteps. With quick realisation Oliver extinguishes the flames with leaves, running the opposite direction, further into the forest after grabbing his knife holstered in the dirt.
Shortly afterwards a mercenary comes across some smoky leaves, the intensity of the smoke indicating the fire had been put out recently. The soldier lifts his assault rifle up aiming around the area but no luck. He activates his radio, "I have contact. Two clicks southwest."
