"Okay, I have a plan," Huey said muting himself so Emmanuel couldn't tell that he was still on the phone and would hopefully just assume that he had hung up.
"I'm all ears. We're coming up on the building now." Cindy made eye contact briefly with Huey in her rearview mirror. The overall mood in the car was tense but everyone was determined to save Jazmine.
"When we get there Caesar and Cindy I want you two to cause a big enough distraction to draw the attention of the people working the front desk and any security that may be guarding the doors. While you are doing that I'm going to sneak to the stairs and start heading up. Riley I need you to stay in the car and look for any windows that look different than the others and count the floors to find out what floor they may be on," Huey turned to look at Riley, "and before you say anything once you text me the floor you can find your way upstairs too."
Cindy pulled into a parking spot far enough from the building that Riley could see the windows and complete his task.
They all got out and walked around to the front of the car.
"Everyone good with the plan," Huey asked. He did not want anything going wrong on their end.
"I just got a quick question," Huey looked at Cindy, "Yeah, I don't want to be that person but why don't we just call the police so we can get a head start."
Huey took a breath, "We can't call the police yet because that will warn him and give him enough time to escape somewhere with Jazmine making it even harder for us to get her back."
"All right, dumb question. I'm ready."
Caesar and Cindy headed for the front doors with Huey trailing a ways back from them. Riley had already started scanning the windows for any irregularities.
"So, what are we going to do for a distraction," Caesar asked Cindy.
Cindy grabbed his hand and smiled at him. "Just follow my lead."
Caesar was confused but did not have time to ask any questions because they were already walking through the front doors.
They walked hand in hand towards the front desk where a white woman with a tight bun sat with a headset and two monitors in front of her. She looked up at them and smiled when they approached her desk.
"Hello, how can I help you?"
"Yes," Cindy answered, "We have a meeting with "
"Um, I'm not sure we have a in this building, give me just a second to check."
When the receptionist looked down at her computer to search for the non existent , Cindy looked up at Caesar and winked. Caesar gave her confused look before looking shocked at the sight of her eyes rolling in the back of her head.
Cindy threw the back of her hand against her forehead and fainted. Caesar barely caught her before she hit the ground.
The receptionist shot out of her seat looking over her desk to make sure that Cindy was okay after her very convincing faint. Cindy pretended to be unconscious in Caesar's arms.
"Cindy," Caesar said shaking her, "Cindy, are you okay?"
Cindy gave his arm a light squeeze to remind Caesar that he was supposed to be following the plan.
'Oh, shit that's right!'
Caesar looked around at the security guards, one by the front door and another by the elevator.
"Can we get some help over here please," he shouted at the guards. They both looked at each other without moving
Caesar turns his head to look at the receptionist, "Can you get some help over here please?"
The receptionist starts panicking and waves over the two security guards.
While they are distracted Huey sneaks into the front door and slips behind the door to the stairs, unseen by anyone who may have been in the lobby
Huey pulls out his phone once he is inside and calls Riley.
"Hey, do you know what floor it is yet?"
"Hold on nigga, I'm still counting."
Huey starts taking the stairs up as he hears RIley mumble numbers in the background. He knows it's going to take him sometime to get there because the last coherent number he heard was seventeen.
"Twenty-one, twenty -two, they are on floor twenty two I think. That's the only room on this side of the building with the curtains drawn and I bet Jazzy is behind them curtains.
"Alright, you can make your way up here too now, just be careful of the guards there was only two and Cindy has them occupied but I don't know how long she's going to keep that up."
"Bet, I'm on my way."
One of the guards kneels down and takes Cindy's wrist into his hand and checks for a pulse he looks up at the receptionist.
"She has a pulse you may want to go ahead and call an ambulance."
"No, no I'm sure she's fine I just have to get her back to the car and I can take her to the hospital myself," Caesar chuckled when they gave him a weird look, "You know those ambulance fees, she'd kill me as soon as she woke up."
Cindy started to moan and put her hand up against her forehead.
"Oh no, what happened."
Caesar started to help her up. "You fainted, sweetheart. I did, well you know it must just be too hot for me today."
Cindy reaches her hand up for the security guard to take while Caesar lifts her off the ground slowly. "Thank you so much for checking up on me."
Cindy notices Riley coming up on the front door out of the corner of her eye and lets her eyes roll in the back of her head again, this timing falling forward into the security guards arm.
Caesar looks at the front door and sees Riley sneaking in and causes more commotion to distract everyone else from him so that he can get to the stairs unnoticed like Huey did.
"Alright Jazmine, I think I have played your game long enough," Emmanuel said calmly watching Jazmine slowly back away from the desk.
Jazmine kept her eyes on Emmanuel as she tried to circle the desk and make it to the front door.
If I can just get him to keep a distance I could make a break for the door.
The way Emmanuel was slowly following her as if she was his prey was making her feel uneasy and him holding both of his hands behind his back was downright weird.
"I am trying to make you feel as comfortable as possible."
"By tying me to a chair," Jazmine said sarcastically. By this time she had made it to the other side of the desk. She watched as he placed the phone back on the hook.
So much for getting him to say what floor I was on while Huey was still on the phone.
Jazmine looked back up at Emmanuel's face and caught him smiling at her.
"Well, comfortable within reason. You see, where you'll be going with me will be very different from the life that you're used to."
"I'm not going anywhere with you!" Jazmine yelled backing up into a wall about five feet from the door.
"You had more fight in you than I thought though. Really didn't expect you to get loose from the chair," he kept talking as if she hadn't said anything, "It'll be a challenge to break you down… lucky for you I like a challenge."
Emmanuel took long strides towards her effectively blocking her way to the door.
Shit. SHIT!
"Now, you didn't think I would make it that easy for you, did you?"
Emmanuel got into a defensive position as though he were ready to tackle Jazmine at any moment. Jazmine turned to run behind the desk again but, not before Emmanuel landed his full body weight on top of her back.
Jazmine screamed and started thrashing on the ground beneath him doing her best to try and shake him off to no avail. He wasn't the star of the football team during the fall season for nothing.
Emmanuel bent his head down to whisper into Jazmine's ear.
"You know, I could just start breaking you down now."
The meaning behind his words was not lost on Jazmine and she began to thrash ever harder.
"GET OFF OF ME!"
Suddenly Jazmine heard Emmanuel grunt in her ear before she felt his weight come off her completely.
"I think you heard her loud and clear."
Jazmine flipped on to her back to look up and see Huey holding Emmanuel by the collar of his shirt.
Huey punched Emmanuel in the side of his face knocking him to the ground. He didn't give him anytime to recover before landed on top of him and gave him a series of left and right jabs before Jazmine pulled Huey off of him.
"What are you doing, Jazmine?"
"I know you're angry Huey but killing him will just get you in trouble too!"
Huey looked at Emmanuel and saw that his face was a bloody mess. He was unconscious and probably wouldn't be able to see out of his right eye whenever he woke up. Huey looked at his hands and couldn't tell whether the blood on his knuckles was his own or Emmanuel's.
I must have blacked out. Huey could not tell how long he had been hitting Emmanuel he just knew that he was releasing all the built up rage from the moment he had discovered Jazmine to be missing onto him.
"C'mon Huey let's get out of here before he wakes up."
Huey nodded and grabbed Jazmine's hand as they headed out of the office where she was being held captive. They were about to take the stairs down when the ding of the elevator stopped them. They didn't have time to hide from whoever was about to get off of this elevator so Huey stood in front of Jazmine and took a defensive position much like the one Emmanuel had taken earlier.
The doors slid open and Riley walked out.
"Dang nigga chill it's just me," Riley flinched at Huey and headed straight for Jazmine taking her into his arms.
"Jazzy, are you okay," Riley asked after their brief hug, he held Jazmine at arms length and expected her for bruises, "how you gone let a big hefty nigga like that sneak you out your own house."
Jazmine blushed and lightly pushed Riley away.
"Yeah, well, he moves quieter than you would think."
"Um, yeah, this is cute and everything but can we head downstairs and call the police so they can arrest his ass."
They both turned to Huey and nodded their heads. Jazmine and Huey headed for the stairs while Riley stopped at the elevator.
"Why we not just taking the elevator down?"
Huey turned around ready to argue with his younger brother until he saw someone coming up behind him.
"Riley look out!"
"Huh," Riley did not have time to react before Emmanuel grabbed one of his arms and held a gun to his temple.
"Now Huey you can have one or the other. Your only brother or the supposed love of your life."
"Shit! Y'all niggas didnt like this dude in a closet or something? You don't know that real crazy don't just stay down! I expect this of Jazmine because she half white but you Huey, I'm ashamed to call you my brother."
"Shut the fuck up," Emmanuel yelled taking the safety off the gun and positioning it back at Riley's temple.
"You're running out of time to make this decision Freeman."
Jazmine stepped around Huey and began walking towards Emmanuel. Huey grabbed her arm and tried to pull her back.
"Jazmine, what are you doing," Huey asked incredulously.
"I do not want anyone to get hurt because of me and I don't want you to choose between me and Riley so I'm making the choice for you."
Jazmine winked at Huey. Before turning and walking towards Emmanuel again. Emmanuel took Huey's confused expression to mean that he had one and pushed Riley away and started to laugh.
He was too busy laughing to notice Riley maneuver himself behind him. Riley knocked the gun out of his hands and Jazmine simultaneously kicked him where the sun don't shine. Emmanuel fell to his knees and Riley started kicking him on the side of his ribs.
"Jazmine, grab the gun but don't touch it with your bare hands and call 911. Huey, help me drag his ass to a closet or something."
Both Huey and Jazmine followed Riley's directions without asking any questions. Riley had knocked Emmanuel unconscious again probably from the combination of the pain in his ribs and in his groin.
Riley grabbed Emmanuel's left arm and Huey grabbed his right, dragging him back towards the office where Jazmine had indicated there were a few doors and one of them had to have been a closet before she got on the phone with the police.
"I mean seriously Huey," Riley complained as they started stuffing him into the closet, "You couldn't have thought to put this crazy ass nigga in the closet first."
"Look," Huey said grabbing a chair and stuffing it under the doorknob so he couldn't get out if he woke up, "I was too busy beating the shit out of him to think to do that in that moment now are you going to keep bitching or are you ready to go?"
"Well let's go then."
Jazmine, Huey, and Riley got off the elevator right as the police arrived.
They headed straight for Cindy who was still doing her fainting act before she dropped it and pointed them towards Jazmine.
"Um, why was Cindy laying on the floor?"
"It was all apart of a distraction to let me get upstairs to you," Huey said softly grabbing Jazmine's hands right before two officers stopped in front of them and began questioning her.
Huey continued to hold her hand as she told the officer's where Emmanuel had been locked up at until they could get there. One of the officers directed a team to go upstairs with him while the other officer, Officer Sanchez took down a very detailed report of everything Jazmine had to say about her kidnapping.
"Thank you there is an ambulance waiting outside for you so you can get yourself checked out," he reached into his pocket and pulled out a card, "here's my card if you need anything you can call me directly I'm going to be the one in charge of your case. We'll be in touch."
"Okay, thank you Officer."
Huey pulled Jazmine towards the rest of their group who had waited through the whole ordeal.
"Is everything good now, Jazzy," Cindy asked, getting up to rub her best friends shoulder.
Jazmine winced from the pain in her shoulder from the ropes but shrugged off everyone's concerned look.
"I'm fine, everything is under control. Officer Sanchez says that they have already taken Emmanuel to the station and that he is locked away in a cell. We didn't see him because they took him out of the staff exit."
"Are you sure you don't want to stop by the ambulance?" Huey asked as Jazmine started walking towards the exit.
"I'm sure, I just want to go home."
Jazmine reached up and kissed Huey's cheek and he nodded towards Cindy as they all headed towards her truck so she could head back to the Freeman household.
