Time for another crossover fanfic. This time it's Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler. To be honest, I'm not sure how many crossover fanfics I've made. You can try to count them if you want.

And yes, both are roleplaying games. But Octopath Traveler has a much larger cast of playable characters than Bravely Default does.

Bravely Default definitely has more jobs you can choose though.

I want to be creative so maybe I'll make some plot changes. Nothing serious though.

Chapter 1: A Familiar Journey

After defeating Ouroboros, our heroes wondered what they should do next.

It was rather amazing that they could defeat him, they had to admit.

Now it looked like the world was safe.

Of course, it would have been better if they hadn't been tricked into helping him in the first place.

"Who would have thought we would defeat a god?" asked Tiz. It made them feel like they themselves are gods.

Then again, if they were gods, they would probably be immortal or something.

Agnes nodded. It was a miracle.

It had been three years since they had done so.

Surely there was another adventure out there...or maybe four. Or maybe eight. Who knew?

The only question was...where should they go?

There seemed to be a lot of possibilities.

Ringabel came up with an idea.

Maybe they could visit the land of Orsterra?

It seemed like an exciting place to visit. It had all sorts of different scenery.

There were most likely monsters as with virtually every other RPG land...but our heroes figured they could handle them. They had fought many foes in the past.

However, our heroes could not decide where to go first.

"Should we go to the desert...or the tundra...or the mountains?" questioned Tiz. Orsterra had a pretty wide amount of scenery.

"Hmm..." thought Edea.

It seemed they couldn't agree on the same location. Which was understandable, considering that there were a lot of places they could choose.

So, they decided to go in separate directions for the time being. They would meet up later when they had some journeying.

Agnes decided that she would go to Flamesgrace.

It was cold, but she could live with that. Though it might be a good idea to wear a coat.

If she couldn't stand the low temperatures, she could try going to Sunshade instead. Though she might find that to be too hot. Perhaps there was a reason why the dancers showed so much skin.

Perhaps she should consider visiting the church, in case she ever found herself in a crisis. Though it didn't seem to her like the world was going to end.

Though she wasn't sure what god the church was dedicated to.

Judging from the fact that it was located in public, it wasn't dedicated to Galdera, the god of evil.

The children seemed to be having fun tossing snowballs at each other.

Most likely, they played basketball instead of baseball.

Assuming that sports had been invented in this fantasy world.

For some strange reason, it always seemed to be night at the frostlands. Everywhere else it seemed to be sunny.

It really was weird.

Fortunately, there was an inn she could check into.

She decided to do so.

There was a painting of the Sacred Flame on the wall.

That reminded her. She was capable of casting fire spells.

No doubt that would come in handy in an environment such as this.

But unbeknownst to her, somebody was about to go on a similar journey she did.

Only without a fairy that was pure evil.

Two women were at the Church of Flamesgrace, and one of them was planning to leave.

The woman that was planning to leave had long blonde hair and was dressed in white.

However, her friend couldn't help but feel worried that she didn't know what she was doing. Though to be fair, she was carrying a magical staff with her.

"Are you sure about this?" asked Lianna. She couldn't help but feel worried about her friend, who she had known for practically her entire life.

Ophilia nodded. She felt she could pull it off.

For some strange reason, people said she sounded like a girl named Shantae, whoever she was.

Though last time she checked, she wasn't a dancer. And she didn't live in the coastlands.

There were dancers at Sunshade though.

Originally, Lianna was on a mission to go to the Cave of Origin. And no, this was not Pokemon OmegaRuby or AlphaSapphire.

But the day before she was supposed to go there, Archbishop Josef fell ill. Mattias was the one that had told everyone the unfortunate news.

Lianna had to admit, she figured something was wrong when her father kept returning from the church with a cough.

Currently, the archbishop was in bed, where he would hopefully recover.

Ophilia figured Lianna should stay at her father's side. She wouldn't want to return home after a long journey to find that he had become one with the sacred flame.

Especially since she herself had lost her parents long ago.

Besides, she would be upset if anything would happen to her sister.

Though she was hesitant at first, Lianna decided to comply.

"Alright, but be careful. It's dangerous out in the snow." noted Lianna. And not just because of the cold temperatures. Hopefully she wouldn't lose Ophilia.

She wasn't sure what was going on, but this year monsters had started appearing and attacking people who stepped foot outside of cities.

Luckily, the monsters were weak. The citizens of Flamegrace had it lucky. Though for some strange reason they got stronger the more people that were traveling together. Perhaps the monsters banded together against larger adventurer parties.

However, she would need to pass a test. A test of combat, it looked like.

"I think I can handle it." nodded Ophilia. There was an equipment shop that sold equipment in case somebody wanted to go monster hunting.

And for some reason, monsters had a tendency to drop cash. Where were they getting it?

After all, in case of emergencies, she happened to know healing spells. Though she wasn't sure if they could cure the archbishop's illness.

And her light spells weren't anything to sneeze at, either. Though knowing the cold weather, it wouldn't be surprising if somebody DID sneeze.

Ophilia left to begin her journey.

"I feel a sense of deja vu..." remarked Agnes nearby. Was there another adventurer that was similar to her? If so, she would like to meet them.

She decided to go for a walk in the snow. It was nice to get some fresh air every now and then.

It was cold, but she didn't mind that. Besides, she happened to know fire spells...though she needed to equip Black Mage in order to use them.

She had assembled quite a few jobs over her adventures.

Unfortunately, not long after she began her walk, she ended up being attacked by monsters.

Lizardmen, to be precise.

But to be honest, she didn't find that to be scary. She had fought a lot worse.

Besides, these monsters were weak.

Though she found it unusual that there were lizardmen in such a cold environment. Weren't they...cold blooded?

Well, she didn't know everything about science. Besides, she was more of a magic person.

But as she prepared to fight, something unexpected happened.

A burst of light suddenly appeared.

"Hmm?" asked Agnes.

As it turned out, somebody had shown up to help her.

It was none other than Ophilia.

She continued casting spells until the lizardmen ran off.

"If this keeps up, I'm going to go blind." noted one of the lizardmen. It would be best to run while he could still see his surroundings.

"Huh. I guess these lizardmen were sentient." remarked Agnes.

"May I ask what you're doing outside? It's not safe out here." noted the cleric. She hated to imagine what would happen if a small child decided to leave town by themselves.

"Oh..." answered Agnes.

"You should probably head back to town." remarked Ophilia. She was under the impression that people would be worried about her.

"Why are you outside?" asked the black-haired girl. She would probably prefer it indoors where it was a lot warmer.

"I'm on a mission to head to the Cave of Origin." explained the cleric. That was where she would find the Sacred Flame.

"I see...are you sure going alone is a good idea?" questioned Agnes. That didn't sound like it was safe. She had only taken a few steps out of town and had been attacked by lizardmen.

"Well, now that I think of it..." noted the cleric.

Perhaps she needed assistance. She wasn't exactly what was waiting for her inside the cave. Though she wouldn't need a lantern to light it up.

"Would you like some help?" asked Agnes.

"I suppose I shouldn't go into the cavern alone." noted Ophilia. She wasn't quite sure what was in there, other than the Sacred Flame.

And so, Agnes accompanied Ophilia on her quest.

Aside from the lizardmen, there were also wolves...which were more in place.

Whenever the wolves saw them, they would snarl at them.

They had to be careful not to get bitten.

"It might be worthwhile to find an animal tamer..." noted Ophilia. They would know how to deal with animals like this.

"There's got to be one in Orsterra somewhere." remarked Agnes.

Maybe they should check the woodlands? The forest seemed like a good place to look for one.

Luckily, they were weak. It didn't take much to scare them off.

Perhaps they were more bark than bite.

And there were also snow foxes.

They blended in with the background, so they tended to catch them by surprise.

Maybe they should be a bit more observant.

But fire could scare them off.

Seemed fire was their friend here.

Soon enough, the entrance to the cavern was within sight.

"You ready to go in?" asked Ophilia.

"Well, you seem like a person that doesn't need a light source." noted Agnes.

"True." nodded the girl. Though once she had the Sacred Flame, her life was most likely going to get even brighter.

Unsurprisingly, there were bats in the cave.

And unfortunately, they happened to be thirsty.

Perhaps they had a hard time finding food in an environment as cold as the frostlands was.

"Hey! That's my blood!" exclaimed Agnes.

Ophilia cast a healing spell on her.

"Thanks." remarked the brunette. It was good that a white mage was on her side. It made surviving a lot easier.

She could also buy healing items, but those cost money.

And there were also shadow wisps.

Naturally, light worked well against them.

At the end of the cave was a guardian.

"Whoa! Look at the size of it!" exclaimed Ophilia. It was huge!

Thankfully, it was not as tough as it looked.

But it was definitely stronger than what she had faced so far.

It was good that she had a friend with her.

The Guardian of the First Flame began to stir.

"Get ready!" exclaimed Ophilia.

Agnes nodded.

As it turned out, the guardian was capable of speech.

Unsurprisingly, it spoke in a booming voice.

"So, you have come for the Sacred Flame...wait, have you brought someone else with you?" asked the Guardian of the Sacred Flame.

It wasn't expecting that.

It seemed to it that clerics had a habit of going on the Kindling alone.

Which probably wasn't a good idea. It was a long and perilous journey. The monsters in Wispermill in particular were really strong.

She felt sorry for the people living there.

"Is that a problem?" asked Ophilia.

"Just as long as they're trustworthy." noted the revenant.

"She seems trustworthy to me. And the way I see it, she owes me a favor." explained the cleric.

"It's true, I do." nodded Agnes. Though she did assume that she could handle the lizardmen by herself.

The Guardian of the First Flame swung its sword at them.

Our two heroines leapt out of the way.

Agnes launched a fireball, but it blocked the flames with its shield.

She wondered how she would get past a shield that big.

It then retaliated with a fireball of its own.

"Aah!" exclaimed the brunette. That fireball had almost hit her.

Ophilia bombarded the guardian with light.

it attempted to stomp her, but she avoided it.

It seemed the guardian was kind of slow.

However, it was capable of summoning dark wisps as a means of support.

If left alone for too long, they would eventually explode.

However, as their name implied, they weren't fond of light.

Agnes hit the guardian with an ice spell, causing it to falter.

She found it ironic that it was weak to ice considering where it was located.

Ophilia then bombarded the guardian with light.

The golem did not appear to feel pain...but they could tell it was starting to weaken.

However, it began to charge up for an attack.

"I think now would be a good time to defend." noted Agnes.

Ophilia nodded. Things looked like they were about to get dangerous.

She got the feeling that Agnes was a more experienced fighter than she was, so perhaps it would be best to listen to her.

The two of them defended. Luckily, Ophilia had gotten a shield from the shop.

Shortly afterwards, the Guardian of the First Flame launched a stream of flames at them.

"We really dodged an arrow there." noted Ophilia. She didn't want to think about what would happen if they hadn't guarded when they did.

Agnes nodded.

Perhaps they could also try stunning the golem before it launched that kind of attack.

It might be a better idea to try that with more helping hands though.

The golem stomped on Agnes.

"Ow!" exclaimed the brunette.

It then slashed Ophilia.

"Ooh!" shouted the blonde.

However, Agnes launched a fireball at the revenant in retaliation.

As before, Ophilia cast a healing spell.

Agnes launched a fireball, but the golem blocked it as before.

However, Ophilia got the bright idea of attacking it from behind.

What was so bright about it, you ask? You can probably guess.

Shortly afterwards, they were able to defeat the golem.

"You have passed the trial. Thus, you may pass." spoke the guardian.

The guardian went inactive a few seconds later.

It seemed it had fulfilled its purpose.

Though perhaps it would reawaken if another cleric was chosen for the Kindling. The Kindling normally took place every twenty years, though it might reoccur sooner if a cleric suffered a tragic accident.

"I appreciate your help." remarked Ophilia as she collected the Sacred Flame.

Perhaps this could be the start of a decent friendship.

Agnes just hoped that Ophilia wasn't secretly a devout follower of a dark god. The idea was pretty scary.

But she seemed to be an innocent person to her.

Personally Agnes wondered how the rest of her friends were doing.

She heard that Ringabel had gone to Atlasdam.

Perhaps he was going on an adventure as well.

And maybe he had made a new friend.

Well, hopefully he would be alright.

Lianna was happy to see Ophilia return.

However, she was surprised to see that she had a friend with her.

"So, where should I go next?" asked Ophilia.

She knew that her journey wasn't over yet. There were other churches that she needed to pay visit to. It'd be a lot simpler if she didn't need to leave town, but that was just the way the world worked.

Well, she wouldn't mind exploring the world anyway.

But perhaps it was too early to take the next step. While the monsters around Flamegrace were weak, there were much stronger monsters near Goldshore.

Perhaps she should try meeting other adventurers before she continued her quest.

Of course, she had already met one.

She could also go visit Archbishop Josef...but now that she thought of it, the illness he had might be contagious. Josef would lose it if she ended up becoming one with the flame.

"Do you want to come with me to Bolderfall?" asked Ophilia.

She figured it would be a good place to get equipment, as it was filled with minerals.

Agnes nodded. Perhaps she would run into one of her friends there.

Though she wasn't quite sure where they had gone. Her guess was Ringabel would stop at Sunshade to see the dancers.

She wouldn't wear a dancer's outfit, personally. But she figured Edea would be willing to do that since she wore the Bravo Bikini.

She had sure turned a few heads.

Together, the two set out.

Meanwhile, someone in the shadows was plotting something evil...and unholy.

"It appears that Lianna did not go to the Cave of Origin like I hoped her to. But no matter. It's only a minor setback. With some luck Archbishop Josef will become one with the flame, and then the sacred ritual shall begin." noted the man.

It was something that he deeply looked forward to.

What do you think so far? I figured I would partner Ophilia with Agnes based on their similarities.

And yes, I figured I would include some foreshadowing.

Feel free to write a review.

Though considering this is the first chapter, I probably won't be getting a lot of reviews.

Unfortunately, Orsterra had a dark secret, which you probably know if you've fought the true final boss.

I'd rather not spoil that though. Not until later anyway.

I figured I would partner Agnes with Ophilia based on their similarities.

In the next chapter, we'll go to Ringabel and Cyrus.
