Wanji knew it was Wei WuXian when he had dragged him back to the cloud recess. Not only would only Wei WuXian have been able to command Wen Ning, and behave in such a manner towards Jiang Cheng, but he had played THAT tune. The tune that Wanji himself had composed and only shown to one other person in the world! He knew the tune wouldn't have been overheard by anyone because at the time he and Wei WuXian where trapped in a cave alone, they had had no human contact for days.
All this meant that even though the person in the other room didn't look like the Wei WuXian he knew, it defiantly was. How this had all happened he wasn't yet sure, but he was certain on one thing. Last time he thought about bringing Wei WuXian back to the cloud Recess to keep him safe from all the other clans, he hadn't, and the result had been Wei WuXian's eventual unfair persecution and death. This time Wanji was determined not to make the same mistake twice…This time he was determined he was going to protect Wei WuXian no matter what! The only problem was that it involved practically dragging him back to the Cloud Recess kicking and screaming.
The decision he had made though had almost blown up in his face when Wei WuXian started acting much differently than expected.
The first night when, he had been laid in bed thinking about what to do with his new houseguest, he had woken up to see Wei WuXian literally climbing on top of him in the bed. Wanji had been so shocked by this action that he had already been straddled by Wei WuXian, who was grinning down from above him, before he could respond. His mind wasn't working right all of a sudden…..Wei WuXian was in the same bed with him after so many years….was he playing at something or was he being truthful?... What should he say to such a shameless act? Too many thoughts, too many questions! Wanji's body was already beginning to respond to Wei WuXian's movements, but thankfully there was a thick blanket in-between them so he never noticed. Yet still Wanji couldn't seem to get his brain and mouth to work together to form words. He just stared upwards at Wei WuXian who seemed to be waiting for some kind of response.
After what seemed hours his mind eventually regained the ability to function, slightly, and he hoarsely responded with 'Are you sure this is what you want?'
At those words the look on Wei WuXian's face had gone almost instantly from confident and cheeky to confused and cautious. The urge flowing through Wanji at that moment was almost uncontainable. The urge to reach out and touch Wei WuXian's open thighs, even if they were covered by the clothing. The Urge to use his superior strength and size to rip that clothing to shreds so that there was literally nothing between them, just skin against skin. The urge to do what he should have done years ago, but was too afraid to, seize the opportunity fate had given him to make Wei WuXian his. Fate had bought Wei WuXian not only back into his life, but this time back into his bed! Was he going to ignore this chance? While Wanji had been busy having his crisis of honour Wei WuXian had neither spoken a word nor moved a muscle. In the end this uncharacteristic stillness was probably what saved him from finding out just what changes had arisen in Wanji over the last few years.
Fortunately the break in movement had given Wanji enough time to get his mind back in control of himself enough to strike the point of Wei WuXian's neck which knocked him senseless for the remainder of the night. Wanji thought that this would allow him to get some sleep, but even having Wei WuXian basically paralysed next to him created some dreams which sent him tossing and turning in the sheets all night.
Wanji hadn't realised that he said that last part out loud until Wei WuXian burst out laughing once again. 'hahaha, Lan Er-Gege, you know that there is a rule against making a noise at night!' Wei WuXian rested his hand on Wanji's knee as he spoke. 'You would have ignored that rule that night wouldn't you? If I'd had moved just a little you would have pinned me to the bed and made me scream for mercy' Wei WuXian's hand moved down a little teasingly 'if I'd had known that back then I would have wriggled about until I snapped that fierce self-control of yours.'
Wanji absent-mindedly rested his hand on Wei WuXian's to still it before he responded 'You nearly did'
Wei WuXian laughed again before carrying on 'and what about the times afterwards when I made my way into your bed? Into your sheets? When I watched you bathe?. I was trying to make you hate me and let me out of here but I didn't know back then that I was actually making you hard instead!'
Wanji's hand tightened until it was almost painful 'I thought you knew and you were just teasing me'
Surprisingly Wei WuXian didn't laugh but sobered slightly, leaning into Wanji gently. 'I wouldn't have teased you so hard back then if I had known how you felt about me. I wasn't doing it on purpose, I promise.
Wanji nodded his understanding as he thought back to all times Wei WuXian had very nearly broken his famed self control… by accident.
He remembered once when they had been alone in the cave after the Wen Clan sealed everyone in. Jiang Cheng had managed to get the others out but thanks to his own injury, and Wei WuXian playing the hero, they had both been stuck in there for days. Wanji could recall feeling unwell but had attributed it to the broken leg he had carried for days and didn't give it much thought. Then Wei WuXian suddenly pulled of his forehead ribbon and fastened it around his leg. Wanji had been so dumbstruck at the turn of events that he couldn't say anything. Instead going around and around in his head was the thought that Wei WuXian had so carelessly taken his ribbon, and somehow he wasn't as angry about that as he should be. Even this thought disappeared once he had felt the long, cool fingers smoothing the medicine alone the inside of his bare lower leg. It was obvious that Wei WuXian was trying to help him heal and yet somehow it had felt more intimate than that.
Wanji had been busy trying to figure out how applying medicine could ever be considered intimate, especially in such a dingy cave, when had received another shock to the system. Wei WuXian reached over and began removing his clothing. He had instinctively recoiled from the assault and once Wei WuXian had realised that the approach wouldn't work he then reached for his own robes instead. At the time Wanji wasn't sure what Wei WuXian was trying to do, but it was only the thought that he only wanted to help him heal instead of wanting HIM that prevented him from instinctively snatching away Wei WuXian's hand and ripping his robes off himself. At That moment all he wanted to do was make Wei WuXian pay for all the torment he was suffering at his hands. To make Wei WuXian beg for his mercy and promise never to be so shameless around him again. Of course it wouldn't matter how loud Wei WuXian shouted, how much the noise echoed across the cave, Wanji had no intentions of giving him that mercy.
Somehow of course he had managed to keep his inner calm throughout those few days in the cave. But another incident had tested his self-control even more. It was after Wei WuXian had reappeared in his life again and he had finally managed to bring him home to the Cloud Recess. Wei WuXian was unconscious in his Jingshi, sleeping soundly in his bed. Wanji couldn't help be relieved that he was home, and he was finally safe under his roof. Of course having a half dressed, sleeping Wei WuXian in his bed wasn't exactly relaxing for him, especially when Wei WuXian awoke and sat up in bed. The sound of that voice after all this time had awoken Wanji's interests again, and seeing the sleeping robe Wei WuXian now wore gaping open at the top to reveal his collar bone certainly wasn't helping matters.
Wanji had taken a silent, deep breath to steady himself before placing himself on the bed to check Wei WuXian's wound. Unfortunately this meant he had to pull the robe back even further, revealing more of the bare torso in the process. Thoughts had swam in his head as his hand froze in place. He was alone in his own room with just Wei WuXian, the two of them together on his bed. All he had to do was lean forwards slightly and he could press his lips to the others, press his body to the other. Restrict Wei WuXian's ability to move, to get away. To keep him there, underneath him, for as long as he wanted….maybe even forever. He had shaken off the idea as Wei WuXian was a patient in his care, and no matter how much he….wanted…he couldn't do that. Also if Wei WuXian got any idea of his thoughts he might ask for someone else to look after him instead and Wanji was suddenly feeling very territorial about other men seeing Wei WuXian half clothed.
There was also the time his self control almost snapped after one of his drinking evenings with Wei WuXian. He had woken up in the morning only to find himself sharing the same sheets with Wei WuXian. On top of that Wei WuXian seemed to naked and his own shirt was hanging off his shoulders, as if this was not enough to send his mind tumbling he also had no memory of what had gone on the evening before. His body had reacted and followed his mental state with him tumbling from the bed. As he sat on the floor trying to calm his breathing he couldn't help but wonder how it had happened…Had he finally got up enough courage to tell Wei WuXian how he felt? Had Wei WuXian agreed?...he certainly didn't look unhappy laid there on the bed. Wanji purposefully placed his hand against his temple to restrict his view of the bed while he chided himself…..ohhh nooo look anywhere else than the bed and the naked man in it until you work out what the hell is going on.
What had really threatened to pop a few blood vessels was when Wei WuXian had begun laughing! What exactly was there to laugh about in this situation? If something had gone on between them then as far as he was concerned it wasn't exactly a laughing matter, and if he had declared himself and Wei WuXian hadn't reciprocated his feelings then laughing would only make him feel more the fool. It wasn't until Wei WuXian pulled back the covers and revealed he was not only wearing his lower garments but also his shoes that Wanji had begun to piece things together. This was a joke…one of Wei WuXian's singular types of jokes. But this time it had fallen completely flat.
