Official Disclaimer
The characters of Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett, Lieutenant Chin Ho Kelly, Officer Kono Kalakaua, Agent Jenna O'Connor nee Kaye, Adam 'Toast' Charles, Kamekona and Governor Sam Denning do not belong to me in any fashion. I am merely using them for my own entertainment purposes.
The character of Lieutenant Danielle 'Danni' Williams probably can be considered to be mine by now. Although she was originally based on the male version of Danny, she soon evolved and became her own person. She has her own background, her own family and the history which goes with it, not to mention different character traits. That isn't to say that the Danny Williams we all know and love is completely gone, he still emerges through her at time. I like to think of female Danni as what Danny could have been like if everything in his life had gone his way. As in full custody of Grace and a decent relationship based in friendship with his ex.
The character of Grace has also changed slightly due to this change in Danni's character. Her surname for one is Taylor rather then Williams as this is her father's surname and was Danni's married name (Danni chose to revert back to her maiden name when divorced?. Her parents are also amicable which has also impacted Grace but never fear, she is still the sweetheart we all know and love, if anything she is even more of a character now.
The characters of Lieutenant Colonel David Williams, Supervisory Special Agent in charge Jack O'Connor, Lieutenant Commander Riley King, Lieutenant Louisa Palakiko-Cowan, Emily 'Emmy' McGarrett, James 'Jago' McGarrett, Oliver 'Ollie' McGarrett, Medical Examiner Rosamund 'Ros / Rosie' Lange do all belong to me so please do not use without first asking permission.
Any other character who might pop up who isn't instantly recognisable from the show probably belongs to me as well!
Author Note
Welcome to the first chapter of 'All in a weekend'
This is set in early June 2015 so in season five but the season five my AU canon world, it's a story series that I refer to as the 'Could have made it into canon but didn't series' which as you can gather means that I could have added it to the main story saga but decided that it didn't fit into what I wanted from it.
This story was written with TealRose over the period of a few months. If you like NCIS stories then I suggest you head over to her page and check out her stories on the series!
Please note that this story, unlike many of my other ones, is rated M and will involve sexual scenes.
I always like writing about the McGarrett family and being able to explore not only Steve and Danni as a married couple but also to write Steve trying to navigate being a father to young children.
I'm not too sure how long this story will be but I can promise you that I will complete it, even if it takes me a while to do so.
Anyway please enjoy.

Chapter one
Thursday Morning
Steve McGarrett blinked slowly as he stared across the kitchen table at his wife who was seated opposite him, his half-filled spoon of oatmeal frozen in place between his mouth and the bowl, he was vaguely aware of some of it sliding off of his spoon and landing just shy of the bowl onto the edge of the table but dismissed it as unimportant in the scale of the bombshell which Danni had just dropped on him.
A bombshell which he couldn't quite wrap his head around no matter how much he tried.
He became aware of the watchful silence around the table and forced himself to relax, placing his spoon carefully back into his bowl before he spoke, his voice coming out slightly rougher than it usually was, a small fact which Danni clearly picked up on if the way her eyebrow rose suddenly was any indication for him to go by.
"I'm sorry but do you mind repeating what you just said to me again Danielle because I could have sworn for a moment that you had just told me that you and Grace haven't been to Pearl Harbor before despite living on the island for what? Six years now?"
Danni stared at him for a moment longer before her mouth slowly curled up into an amused smile as she nodded at him.
"No you heard me correctly Steven." She confirmed with a casual looking shrug, sharing a quick look with their thirteen year old daughter Grace before she focused back on Steve again as she continued speaking. "Going to Pearl Harbor has always been on both of our lists of things we would like to do but we've just never gotten around to doing it yet. Life and other commitments keep getting in the way and I guess after a certain amount of time past we…" Her voice trailed off into another shrug.
"After a certain amount of time past, what?" He pressed.
"Well after a certain amount of time past Uncle Steve, Mamma and I came to the agreement that if it happened then it would happen." Grace informed him, answering for Danni who nodded.
"Make no mistake Steve we do plan to go there one day but there's no rush, it's not a big deal, like Gracie says, if it happens then it happens." Danni commented, giving him a long, searching look as though she was trying to bury herself inside of his head to see exactly what he was thinking.
For a moment he allowed himself to be distracted by her as he met her gaze, still finding it hard to believe that the beautiful woman opposite him was actually his, not only that but that she loved him enough to have a relationship with him, agreeing to marrying him and giving him three beautiful children of their own as well as an amazing stepdaughter in the form of Grace. It was beyond what he had ever hoped for.
He shifted in his seat, forcing himself to focus on what Danni had told him before he suddenly smiled.
He supposed if he was being honest with himself then he could understand their reasoning behind not being able to go yet. He knew just how busy Danni had been over the last few years because he had been there, watching her first from the side-lines and then from her side. She had left everything which she knew behind her to move to Hawaii for the sake of her young daughter so that Grace could have a relationship with her father. She had spent six months of her life working in a place where the majority of people working with her claimed to have an issue with her and made her aware of that fact every day she was there. Then the two of them had met and he had swept in, taking one look at her and her record, kidnapped her to his taskforce by insisting the Governor made her his partner and then spent the next five months seducing her and convincing her that the two of them were meant to be.
A marriage and three children had swiftly followed, that added to the jobs they had as well as acting like a taxi service for Grace most weekend and still somehow finding the time to see their friends and host the team at their place on a regular basis all added up to them having little to no time for themselves. He doubted that she had even had the time to even think about Pearl Harbor let alone organising a trip there.
Luckily for Danni and Grace, they both had him and if there was one thing which Steve prided himself on, it was being able to organize trips often at short notice.
"Steve are you still with us Sweetheart?"
He made a humming sound of acknowledgement at the back of his throat when he heard Danni speak to him, her voice pulling him away from his thoughts and plans. He looked up at her, taking note of the half concerned, half thoughtful look on her face as he shot her a questioning look.
"I'm still with you Danni" He assured her with a nod.
"I can't help but notice that you've got that look on your face Steve and I distinctively remember you and I having a conversation about you using that facial expression while in front of our young, impressionable children. I'm pretty sure that it was during that talk that you promised me that you would keep all your craziness away from them and restrict it to when you're at work." She reminded him firmly before she turned away and looking at their three year old daughter Emily who had clearly decided that she was done with the oatmeal she had for breakfast and was using the remains of it to draw patterns over the table surface from where she sat on her booster seat. "Emmy-bean, we've spoken about this before, I know you love creating art and I encourage that but this is why Daddy and I bought you lots and lots of crayons and pens, food is meant for eating not playing with." Danni scolded the small dark haired girl lightly, a soft smile on her face with Emily tilted her head back and grinned at Danni with a smile which Steve knew was an exact copy of Danni's.
"I've no idea what this facial expression you're talking about is Danni because as I don't have any kind of facial expressions." Steve told her, looking away from his wife to stare at his step daughter when Grace made a choking sound at his declaration. "Chew your food Gracie, don't choke on it." Steve recommended, keeping a grin off his face with difficult at the incredulously look that Grace shot him.
It was a well-known fact in their household that Steve was lacking in manners when it came to food, something which he knew Danni had blamed on the Navy for teaching him to think of food simply as a substance to eat to keep up his strength rather then something to enjoy, though she was slowly bringing him around to her way of thinking.
"Come on Uncle Steve, everybody and I mean everybody knows about your facial expressions." Grace stated once she had recovered from her short coughing fit. "Every time you get it on your face it means that you're planning something and it's going to be something that either Mamma or the team will have to save you from."
"From the mouths of babes, looks like I've done a good job of teaching Gracie how to be observant when it comes to reading people." Danni commented proudly with a smile as she reached behind her and snagged the packet of baby wipes from the counter top and pulled one out, placing the rest on the table before she turned to look at Emily, making it clear who her intended target was.
Steve pretended to look affronted for a moment at the comment before his expressions eased into a wide grin.
"I promise you both that I'm not planning anything right now which may cause problems for anyone, scouts honor." He assured them with a wink before he leaned forward in his chair, warming to his topic as his blue eyes moved between them. "What I'm think though is that the six of us should head over to Pearl Harbor this weekend and make a mini vacation of it. There are always a lot of good deals happening at the moment especially for family deals." He remarked.
Danni looked up at him for a moment, a fond look coming to her face as she took in the way his eyes were twinkling before she shrugged, mentally going through her plans for the upcoming few days and figuring out which ones she could straight out cancel and which ones she would need to rearrange.
"Going away on a mini break is never a bad idea in my eyes." She agreed, her smile growing at the way Steve's face lit up at her words, looking briefly as though all his Christmases and birthdays had come at once for him. "But let's not go overboard with planning this Steve, we still have a budget which we need to adhere to." She reminded him softly, sighing with a shake of her head when he merely responded by making a humming sound at her, a far away look on his face which told Danni that her husband was now in planning mode and that very little of what she could say to him would make any difference to him.
She turned her attention to Emily and proceeded to clean the small girl's face, holding her steady by her chin when she attempted to moved away from her, clearly not enjoying the process at all.
She turned to look over her shoulder when she heard a little grunting sound coming from behind them, her eyes narrowing slightly in thought as she observed the two Moses baskets set up side by side, trying to figure out if the noise was coming from James, the elder of her 6 week old twins or Oliver who was the younger. She smiled when a small fist emerged from the Moses basket telling her that James was not only awake from his nap but that he wanted some attention from them as well. She turned to look at Steve and Grace and spoke.
"Hey, could one of you go and grab Jago from the basket, while I finish up with this messy pup here?" She asked them, rolling her eyes when Steve merely responded with a nod of his head while he continued to eat his oatmeal clearly paying little attention to anything happening around him. Danni waited patiently, tilting her head to the side when Steve suddenly looked up at her, an eager look in his eyes as he began talking, picking up the thread of their previous conversation as though it had never died and that a new one hadn't taken its place.
"It should be easy enough for us to plan this within a short time period Danni, all we need to do is to make sure that we have everything we might need for Emily, James and Oliver just in case we decide to extend out trip while we're out there. I think it's safe to say that we've earned this break and from the Governor was saying in our last meeting, he's pretty keen about Five-O taking a break, apparently none of us have taken any real time off from work since the taskforce was formed." Steve told her, a slight frown coming to his face as though he disagreed with what the Governor had told him.
Danni smiled at the comment, her mind switching back to the evening before when the Governor had turned up on their doorstep on his way to a black tie event and insisted that Steve and his team took at least four to five days off so that they didn't end up burning out which as far as he was concerned had a strong possibility of happening.
Steve had argued the point with the older man but it had been a half-hearted attempt at best making it clear that he wanted to the time off work for him and his team to just unwind, something which the Governor clearly picked up on as well if the smirk which had come to his face was any indication for Danni to go by. She made a mental note in her mind to upgrade the present which they were going to give the Governor at Christmas. There was no denying that the man had been nothing but supportive of hers and Steve's relationship and subsequent marriage even though they had technically broken the age old rule of no fraternisation with a work colleague, especially when that colleague was technically on paper her boss.
Though that was something which might not even be an issue for them for much longer if Danni followed through with her plan to partially retire due to their children. Four children, when both parents worked erratic hours at best in a job which was quite frankly dangerous, was unfeasible and she knew it. She couldn't ask Steve to retire therefore she would have to be the one to step back, something which she was both looking forward to and dreading at the same time though she had yet to share her plans with anyone.
"Making sure that we have everything which we need for the vacation shouldn't be an issue Steve, I've packed for children before so I know what we need." She assured him before she nodded back towards the basket. "But seriously Sweetheart, this conversation can wait because your eldest son is about to…" She winced as the rest of her sentence was drowned out by James's extremely loud, extremely demanding roar which immediately woke his brother beside him who proceeded to add his displeasure at having his nap interrupted.
Danni sighed, dropping the used wet wipe on the table and brought her hands to her temples for a moment, rubbing at them before she came to her feet, stopping when Steve jumped up and held his hand up at her in a classic stop sign.
She sat back down, watching as he crossed the room, stopping in front of both baskets, for a moment he merely stared down into them with a wide grin before he reached into the first one and extracted James, settling him against one shoulder, before leaning down and repeating the same procedure with Oliver.
Danni shook her head, smiling when she caught sight of the two boy's furious faces, raising an eyebrow when Steve managed to manoeuvre them around so he could look down at them both.
"There are my baby boys." Steve crooned lovingly at them as he held them close to him. "You've both inherited Daddy's glare which for the record makes bad guys really, really scared so make sure that you keep practicing that because you may just need it when you're older. The bad guys won't know what hit them when you take over Five-O from Daddy and Mommy." He told them both before ducking his head and kissing them on their flushed cheeks.
Danni breathed out, her smile widening as both boys cries slowly lessened until they were both quiet merely staring up at Steve, James with dark blue eyes which Danni was positive would be the same shade as Steve's and Oliver with pale blue eyes which would no doubt end up as grey as her own one day, both wore an expression of confusion on their face. It was a look which Danni was more then used to seeing being directed in her husband's direction thought seeing her two youngest children do it, pulled at her heart strings, making her want to laugh softly as how sweet a picture they all made together.
It was no secret to anyone that Steve was completely and utterly smitten with his boys and worshipped the ground that Grace and Emily walked on. She wondered briefly how the criminals of Hawaii would react to the great, Steve McGarrett, leader of the five-O taskforce if they saw him now.
"I like how you assume that Jago and Ollie will take over Five-O from you, perhaps Gracie or Emmy would like to." Danni couldn't help but point out.
"Don't get me wrong Danni, I would be just as thrilled if either Grace or Emily wanted to take over but as far as I can tell neither of them have any interest in joining the family business. Last thing I heard from Grace was that she was studying to become a Marine Biologist, which I'm assuming she still does?" He said, address his question towards Grace who nodded at him from where she was still sitting. "Exactly, so that's Grace out for the moment and as for Emily, well our baby girl is all about the arts it seems so I think her calling is in that direction."
"True" Danni admitted, glancing towards Emily with a soft smile when the small girl looked up at the sound of her name.
"Mamma" Grace stated, attracting Danni attention to her. "I've got a question, if we're heading over to Pearl Harbor like Uncle Steve says we are then do you think maybe that you and I can go shopping together just the two of us. There's this dance which is coming up at school and I need to get something for it. I thought we could maybe look together for it?" She suggested with a tilt of her head.
Danni stared at her for a moment, picking up on the hopeful look in her eldest daughter's green eyes and nodded.
"So, when you say you want us to go shopping together I assume that you want me there to foot the bill?" She questioned with a smile, making a show at rolling her eyes when Grace responded with an innocent look. "Well, the answer to your query is yes, though it will have to wait until Steve has finished showing us his home away from home which he's so proud of. After that we'll go shopping and if there's anything over there which speaks to you, and it's within a reasonable price range, then I don't see why we can't get it for you."
"Thank you Mamma" Grace squealed happily, jumping from her seat and moving around the table to where Danni was sitting, throwing her arms around her and giving her a resounded kiss on the cheek. "You're the best." She murmured before stepping back.
"That would be you who is the best." Danni replied automatically as she came to her feet, reaching down and picking Emily up from her booster seat and rested her on her hip absently. "How are you getting to school today? If you're planning on walking to get some exercise then you should have left here about five minutes ago to make sure that you'd get to school on time, or do you need me to drive you in?" She commented, tilting her head and kissing Emily on top of her dark hair when the small girl nuzzled closer to her mother, one hand gripping her top.
"No, I'm all good thanks Mamma, my friend Jamie's mom is going to come and pick me up because today is the day we have to bring our science project in. I did mention it to you last night when you were cooking dinner, you remember?" Grace asked her curiously as she crossed her arms over her chest. Danni frowned for a moment, searching her memories of the night before, she nodded slowly.
"Now that you mention it, I do remember you telling me about it." She confirmed, flashing Grace a smile. "She's going to drop you off tonight as well from School right? After science club finished?" She kept her gaze on Grace as she leaned down and placed Emily on the floor, keeping one hand against her back to make sure that she was steady on her feet before she straightened.
"That's right." Grace told her, glancing over her shoulder towards the door when they heard the faint sound of a car horn. "Oh my gosh, that's got to be them now, they're early." The young girl said, a look of alarm coming to her face. "I haven't even checked my bag yet, Bye Mamma, bye Emmy, bye boys, bye Uncle Steve." She stated, quickly giving them all a kiss on the cheek before she turned and ran from the room as though the hounds of hell were after her.
Danni shook her head at the reaction with a smile, if there was one personality trait that her daughter had definitely inherited from her then it was her horror at being late to anything or keeping someone waiting for her to arrive.
Steve grinned at the doorway, clearly finding the scenario amusing, as he cuddled two contented boys to him while Emily stood beside him, her arms wrapped around his leg as she hugged him. Danni looked at him, her smile widening at the sight, wishing she had her camera with her so she could take a picture and use it as her new background for the week.
"I wonder if this is what it's like to have a teenager." Danni remarked on a sigh, her eyes twinkling with amusement before her eyes dropped down to the twins noting how comfortable they both looked against Steve's shoulder, looking as though there was nowhere else that either of them wanted to be. "Speaking of people leaving before they are late for where they need to be, shouldn't you be heading off to work now, you are meant to be in the office by nine unless things have changed dramatically since I went on maternity leave." She stated.
"Nine is still the deadline but being the boss does give me some leeway Danni." Steve pointed out before relenting and answering her query. "Riley's swinging by and picking me up on his way into work today, we're taking it in turns so one day I'll take the Camaro and go and pick him up and then the next day he'll come and get me, today just so happens to be one of his days." He stated.
Danni nodded, it made sense that they had a rota like that.
When Danni was Steve's partner he had commandeered her car, insisting that he drove it everywhere since in his mind he was the better driver, she had initially put up a fight in the early days of their partnership with one another but once they had entered a proper relationship there seemed little point in fighting against it anymore, especially as they were more often then not coming from the same place. It was different with Riley though, Riley had been Steve's second in command when he had still been in charge of his SEAL team and they both shared a love of driving and a deep seated belief that they were the better driver out of the two. God knew Danni had bared witness to enough of these discussions over the topic.
She moved across the room towards where the kettle was and picked it up suddenly desiring a cup of tea. She had rarely drank the stuff before she had fallen pregnant with Emily but since then she had a real craving for it which had never really gone away.
"There's something which I've been meaning to ask you for a while now though it never seems to be the right time." She told him thoughtfully as she filled the kettle up with water and hit the power button.
"What's that?" He answered, watching her as she selected a mug from their large collection and placed it on the counter top. She remained silent for a moment, trying to figure out the best way to phrase her question as she reached into a pot to the side and selected a tea bag dropping it into the waiting mug.
"So, you and Riley have been partners together for what eight weeks now?" She queried, waiting until he nodded at her before she continued to speak. "Well, you haven't really talked much about how it's going with him, is it working? It must be a different dynamic for you being partnered with him then it was when you were partnered with me."
"Well the biggest change in dynamic is that I have no desire to push Riley up against the nearest wall and kiss the life out of him every time that I see him so there is that." Steve told her seriously, keeping the façade up until Danni started to laugh. He joined in, the sound rough and joyful making her heart sing at the sound of it. As far as she was concerned Steve didn't laugh or smile nearly as much as he should, no doubt due to the scars left on him from his early childhood and his job.
"Well, that's always good to know but I wouldn't exactly blame you, Riley is hardly a strain on the eyes." She replied casually with a shrug, winking when Steve looked suitably outraged by her comment just like she knew he would. "Seriously though, it's working in the environment right or should you be mixing the partnerships up so that the military guys have a cop with them to get the best of both worlds."
"It's been going fine at the moment" Steve told her as he reached down and rested his large hand on the top of Emily's head. "Who would put everyone with then if you were the one in charge?"
Danni considered the question for a moment, her mind immediately running through the strength and weaknesses of their teammates before she answered him.
"Riley with Chin because he needs that experience of being with someone who has always been a cop and knows his way around a scene like the back of his hand. Loulou I would put with Jack because I know she can be a bit of a hothead at times and Jack is one of the calmest people we have and I would place David with you." She told him.
"Because he's your twin and my brother in law?" Steve commented with a raised eyebrow.
"Because he is a similar personality to me and therefore you'd be used to it." She countered.
"I'll think about it, right now it seems to be working but maybe I could shift it around later. You peeved that Riley and I are partners while you're on maternity?" He queried.
Danni met his eyes for a moment before she shook her head.
"No, definitely not peeved, I'm more relieved than anything Steve. We both know that you don't have the greatest track record when it comes to being able to keep a partner of longer then a short time period." She pointed out, keeping her tone mild, glancing back at the kettle in time to see it stop boiling.
"Except with you." Steve replied, the comment causing her to look back at him with a fond, gentle smile as she nodded.
"Except with me." She conceded. "But, I'm not there anymore so it's important to me that you're with someone who can actually hack being your partner and keep you from doing anything crazy."
"Riley and I worked together back when we were SEALs Danni and I'll be the first one to admit that it took us a couple of days to gel again and get back to a place where we could easily work together but everything if fine. You don't have to worry about two crazy SEALs being together because Riley, unlike me, is more content to wait and get all the facts before jumping into action so he's keeping me restrained though obviously he can't manage it quite the way you did but I don't think anyone ever will." He admitted truthfully.
"Well that is good to know." Danni replied, quickly taking a moment to add milk to her tea and pour in the hot water. She placed the kettle down and moved across the room, coming to a stop in front of Steve, tilting her head back so she could meet his questioning gaze. "As long as you just try and be a bit careful then that's all that I ask of you Steve. Things are different now, you've got a family who would be heartbroken if anything happened to you. I would be devastated if I lost you, especially over something which could have easily been avoided." She reminded him softly, her eyes flickering over her children before she reached up, gripping the back of his neck lightly and pulled him down into a kiss, lingering over the contact. Steve pulled back slightly, blinking down at her, listening as she continued to speak. "No one is more glad than I am that you have Riley back in your life. I know that you have us and the team and I know that what you and I have is special but what you have with him is special as well. He's been in your life so long that it's good that he's back and that he can give you a doorway to a happier time in your past."
"Yeah, you're right." Steve agreed with a nod. "I didn't realise just how much I missed the guy until he was back here in Hawaii and back on the same team as me. Apart from you and perhaps Chin and Jack, he's my closest friend here since Tyler is still back in the mainland." He admitted, speaking of one of the cousins he was raised with from the age of fifteen who was eleven months older than he was.
"We should arrange to have Ty come and visit us soon, it's been too long." She remarked.
"Or we can go on a second family vacation later on in the year and go and spend some time with them all, it's not like any of them have met the twins yet after all." Steve said thoughtfully before he leaned down and kissed her again, this time with more pressure, his tongue running over her bottom lip until she parted her mouth on a soft smile, giving him the access he was craving. She bit back a moan when he pulled back from her. "But you are right though Danni, what you and I share with each other is beyond special. You know that I love you right?" He asked, the question causing her to smile at him since it was a question which Steve asked her every day since they had embarked on a relationship with one another, as though he was worried that his words and actions didn't prove it to her.
"I know you do and I love you too" She replied.
"Good." Steve said, going to lean down again for another kiss when a small hand smacked him hard against the cheek blindsiding him for a moment. Blinking he turned to look at James with a look of disbelief on his face before he looked at Danni who was trying to hold back her laughter. "I'm guessing that Jago isn't a fan of us kissing." He remarked with a bemused expression, ducking out of the way when James's hand came closer again. "Look likes we might have a little boxer on our hands, that's never a bad thing."
"I told you that Jago took after you in personality but you didn't believe me, he does not like to share." Danni told him as she leaned down and picked up Emily who had abandoned Steve's leg and was now instead trying to get Danni to hug her again.
"Why do you immediately assume that he got that side of his personality from me Danni?" Steve asked her with raised eyebrow, ignoring the pointed look which Danni shot him before she changed the subject, knowing they could debate where he had inherited it from for hours.
"You know Steve, I was thinking that maybe once the little ones and Grace are all in bed tonight that you and I could do something which he haven't been able to do for six or more weeks." She suggested lightly, hesitating for a moment before choosing her words, aware of the three year old in her arms who was extremely sharp at picking emotional things up.
"Oh?" Steve said, a look of interest coming to his face. "Is that what the trip you took to the Doctor's yesterday was about?" He queried, smiling when she nodded at him.
"It was my last check-up, everything is absolutely fine, I'm fully recovered and healthy" She confirmed with a smile.
"Well that is good news for us then, you got anything planned or are we just going to see how things go?" He questioned, adjusting Oliver in his arm.
"Well what I'm thinking is that we should use that Jacuzzi bath which I seem to remember you insisting on us getting in the Ensuite and then we can see where the night takes us." She replied casually, using the same tone she would use when they were merely discussing what to have for dinner with one another.
"I'm pretty positive that you were the one who begged for the Jacuzzi in the ensuite Danni, you even handpicked the one you wanted, I don't remember actually having a say in it at all." Steve remarked dryly. "But I'm more then happy to use it and to see where the night takes us." He stated, quoting her as he wriggled his eyebrows at her. The action causing her to laugh at how ridiculous he looked doing it.
"It's a date then Beloved, maybe we'll get lucky and be able to put the kids down for bed early for once and actually have them stay down and fall asleep." She said hopefully, watching as he nodded at her before he bent down and placed a kiss on James's head before following it up with a kiss on Oliver's head, his eyes drifting close for a moment before they snapped open and he looked back towards her. "Riley is going to be here soon and I haven't had a hug with my baby girl yet, swap?"
"Swap is good." She agreed, placing Emily down and quickly taking James and Oliver from their father, moving across the room and placing them back in their Moses basket. She hovered over it for a moment, making sure they were okay before she turned around in time to see Steve pick Emily up and hold her close.
"Daddy." She squealed happily, her grey eyes sparkling as she threw her small arms around Steve's neck and squeezed.
"Hey, hey baby girl." Steve replied, holding her close, his heart flipping in his chest at the sheer, unconditional love which Emily gave him. She had been his first miracle, something which he had always dreamed of having one day but never truly believed it would happen. His past relationships had proven that to him time and time again, showing him that there was something about him which people couldn't love or at least they couldn't love him in the way he had needed and hoped for.
Women loved him in their beds and loved using him for the connections he had and his body but when it came to anything deeper they had all kept him at arm's length while professing to care. Catherine Rollins had been a prime example of that.
All of that had changed for him though when Danni had entered his life and changed his entire world with her first, reluctant smile at him.
If he closed his eyes then he could still remember the night they had brought Emily home for the first time from the hospital, his beautiful, tiny, fragile little girl who had wrapped her hand around his finger, blinking up at his with big blue eyes and had stolen his heart completely. He had watched her grow from that tiny baby into a small, dreamy three year old who had inherited his hair colour but her mother's eyes and facial structure. Personality wise she took after her mother as well which was a relief to him, a baby who took after him would mean issues though, looking at James already, he had the feeling they would soon be dealing with them.
Forcing his attention back to the present he spoke to the small girl in his arms, aware of Danni moving around the kitchen.
"My little Emmy Bean." He murmured, kissing the side of her head, loving that he got to hold her and to hear her calling her Daddy. "Now remember to be good for your Mamma today and make sure you behave when you're at Kindergarten though I have no doubt that you will because you always do." He told her, making a sound of approval at her when she nodded, a serious look on her face before she threw herself forward and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"Yes Daddy." She promised with a nod. "Love you.
"I love you too Emily oh so much." He stated with another kiss on the top of her head before he looked towards his wife who had picked up her mug of tea and was blowing down on the hot liquid, for a moment his eyes dropped to her mouth before he forced his eyes back up as she spoke.
"Have you any plans for lunch today because I was thinking that if you didn't then I could make you something and me and the boys could come for a visit to the office maybe? We've only been there once since they were born so it might be good to come in so the others can see them?" She suggested, sounding thoughtful.
"There's not one day of the week that I don't want you to come and visit me Danni or to be back in the office with me. If I could get away with it then I would simply install you and the boys back into your own office just so I could have you within touching distance and be able to look at you to make sure that you're okay." He told her, a possessive look in his eyes which she recognised and which caused her to shiver. Last time she had seen that particular look she had ended up pregnant with the twins. "Will you have time to come out and meet me though if you're packing for us going away tomorrow?"
"So it's tomorrow we're going away?" She queried, making a humming sound when he nodded as she went through what she needed to do before she slowly nodded. "As long as it wasn't an extended lunch then I think I can manage it. It won't take me long to pack for myself, Emmy and the boys and you and Grace will pack your own things for it later on. So as long as Jago and Ollie go down for their naps at ten thirty as usual and sleep for a hour then I think it will work, I'll end up being with you about twelve thirty I think."
"Sounds good to me, if it's twelve thirty then we'll meet at Kamekona's shrimp stand for lunch instead of at the office. That will save you some time plus the big guy has been constantly bugging me every time he sees me to be able to see the twins again since once at the hospital is apparently not enough for him. He has been a good friend to us since day one, so…"
"We'll be there." Danni promised him with a nod, her mind drifting back to their old friend who they had met on day one of their taskforce being set up. The other man was like a big teddy bear, gruff with strangers and people who he saw as a potential business rival to him but gentle and kind to those who he considered his friends and Ohana. He had taken an instant shine to all of Danni's children, insisting that they called him Uncle Shamu and always making sure that he was available to babysit for them if Steve and Danni needed it.
Danni couldn't deny that she had initially been wary of leaving Emily with the former confidential informer but they had been out of options so she had allowed Steve to make the phone call. Kamekona had arrived within fifteen minutes and had made such an impression on Emily even as a small baby that she had cried when Steve had lifted her out of the other man's arms.
Steve opened his mouth to speak only to close it for the second time that morning due to the sound of car beeping from outside their house. He glanced towards the clock on the wall, taking in the time and pulled a face at what he saw.
"That will be Riley which means that I have to go to work. I'll see you later at lunch, if anything chases like a case coming in then I'll call you and let you know the change of plans." He promised, kissing Emily on the cheek before he placed her on the ground and moved over to the Moses baskets, bending over them and kissing each boy on the top of the head. Crossing the room again he captured Danni's mouth in a long kiss before reluctantly pulling away. "I love you" He told her before he left the room, a smile coming to his face when he heard Danni shout after him that she loved him too.
He made his way through the house glancing around him with a slight sigh and made a mental note to himself to sit Danni down at some point during their vacation to discuss their present living arrangements.
At that moment both James and Oliver were sleeping in their room which was fine in the short term for a few months but would have to eventually be resolved, especially now that the Doctor had given Danni the all clear for them to resume their sex life together.
He wanted his sons to be able to have their own nursery, the same way that he wanted both Grace and Emily to have rooms of their own as well so they could have their privacy, something which wasn't possible at that moment in time. The last conversation they had about it was just after Emily had been born when Danni had listened to what he had to say before shaking her head and disagreeing, stating that the house was the perfect size for the four of them. Now that they were a family of six, he was hoping that she would finally be more open to his idea of moving into a larger space.
Steve grabbed his badge and keys from the bowl on the side table by the front door and exited through it, making his way down the garden path towards the kerb where he could see Riley's black SUV sitting, he could just about make out the younger man through the heavily tinted windows, noticing that he was tapping his hands against the steering wheel in time with a beat. Steve couldn't hear any music coming from the interior which meant that Riley must have been using his headphones again.
He tapped on the window twice to announce his arrival before pulling the passenger door open and climbing into it.
"Hey King." He stated as he pulled on his seatbelt, tilting his head to the side so he could look at the black haired man, noticing he had been right in his assumption since Riley was pulling out some ear buds.
"Hey yourself McG, how are you evening last night? Everything good with Danni and the younglings?" Riley asked, an interested tone to his voice which was little surprise since Riley knew that the other man considered Danni like a younger sister though he still, to this day, didn't know what had bonded the two of them together.
"The evening was long because Jago wouldn't settle until after eleven though Ollie was out like a light at eight, then of course because they didn't go down at the same time it meant that they were up at different times wanting to be fed so I think it's safe to say we're both tired though Danni didn't wake me for my agreed shifts, she took them on instead." Steve remarked ruefully, shaking his head. "I don't know how Danni does it all through the night and all through the day as well." He admitted.
"Really? That's what stumps you?" Riley asked sounding surprised by the comment. "The reason she manages it is because she is Danielle McGarrett, I swear man, if you gave her a single day in charge of this country then she would probably have managed to iron out most of the issues by the time lunchtime came around. Your wife is was we call a problem solver and from what you've told me, she always has been. Her mind is just wired differently then ours Buddy and it's a damn good thing as well."
Steve nodded his agreement as Riley pulled the vehicle away from the kerb and headed down the road which Steve knew would lead them to their headquarters.
"That reminds me." Steve said after a pause. "Danni, the kids and me are going away from tomorrow to visit Pearl Harbor so I have a favour which I need to ask from you."
"A favour?" Riley repeated, looking towards Steve for a moment, searching his eyes carefully for a moment before his own widened. "Oh, that, yeah of course you can Buddy, you know that already."
"Thanks, what about you? Any plans for your long weekend or are you just planning on spending it all with Red?" Steve asked, changing the subject.
"That's my plan but whether it happens or not is another thing, technically Ros isn't working but you know how it is when you're a Medical Examiner, you can be called in at any time." Riley pointed out with a shrug of his shoulders. He went to speak when Steve's call phone went off, Steve pulled it out of his picket and glanced down at the screen.
"That's the Governor, I hope you've had a good breakfast Riley because knowing the way our luck is, we might need our strength." He commented with a smirk before he answered the call with a brisk. "McGarrett here, what have you got for us Governor."
