AN: The final chapter! What a ride.

A few hours later the fog cleared and she was in shock. That was the official diagnosis from the doctor. She didn't want to go to the hospital so Elijah called their private concierge physician to take a look at her. Klaus refused to leave her side all through the examination. She was wrapped in a fleece blanket on the bed with him pressed to her side. His arms around her slowly brought her mind back to stability.

The party was dispersed not too long ago. The police came asking questions and making inquiries. Elijah called the family solicitor. Tyler tried to kill her. He tried to kill her because he was jealous. Bonnie left out the details of his accusation but told them how he wanted to kill her because he felt she was cheating on Klaus. Just when she thought her life was forfeit, Klaus came and saved her. He rushed in like an avenging angel reliving Tyler of his life at the very last moment.

Klaus said he came up to look for Bonnie and heard the struggle. The gun belonged to Tyler. It was the one he always carried and had a license for. During the struggle he dropped it on the ground and Klaus found it taking the opportunity to defend his girlfriend. It was all in self-defence.

"I told you there was something wrong with him," Rebekah snapped after the officers left. "He was too clingy. Too crazy. Even with Tatia and Kat, -"

"That's enough Rebekah," Elijah chastened sternly. "Passing blame helps no one. It was unfortunate we all thought Tyler as trustworthy but no one knew the extent of his psychosis."

"I'll get you some tea Bonnie," She said softly to her before leaving the room. Elijah sighed and turned to the couple on the bed. Bonnie had her head on Klaus' chest while he stroked her arm in comfort. She was still trembling.

"I believe you two should take the next week off. It was a traumatic incident. I'll deal with the lawyer and police," he said sympathetically.

"Thank you, brother."

"Thank you, Elijah," Bonnie whispered. After he left, she cried into Klaus' chest. Her entire body wracked with sobs while he soothed her.

"I thought I was going to die," She cried clutching his shirt.

"I'll never let anything happen to you," Klaus promised, kissing her forehead. "Never." The fear of nearly dying, the pain of her still sore neck and the realization that he killed his closest associate for her all come rushing in at once. She held his neck and pushed his mouth on hers in a desperate kiss. Bonnie needed to feel something. She needed to feel him.

"Bonnie, no. You need rest," He tried to discourage her worrying for her mental state.

She licked her lips positioning herself on his lap, "No I just need you. Help me forget please Nik. I want to forget everything but you."

"Alright love. I'm here, I'm here for you." Their clothes came off in a hurry. The moment he sunk into her tears spilled from her eyes and she held his shoulders tight, burying her face in his neck and riding him with all that was within her. She begged him to bruise her body with all his might. To replace the memory of Tyler's hard slap with his soft touch. Her nails dug into his back as their hips snapped together and she cried harder feeling her peak just moments away.

"I love you Nik. I love you, I love you so much," Bonnie cried and chanted, holding him as if he would disappear if she let go.

Klaus kissed her with a gentleness she had no idea he possessed, "I love you more than anything Bonnie. I would kill again and again for you."

They climaxed together and fell on the bed in a tangled mess of limbs. This was it. This was the end. Bonnie Bennett loved Klaus and there was nothing more she could do. Nothing but to wait for the disaster awaiting them on the other side.

Tyler Lockwood was a disturbed man. He was obsessed with his employer Klaus Mikealson. So much that he hated every woman who came around him. None were serious enough to draw his ire but those who were got the raw end of the deal.

"He had diaries. It's so sick," Rebekah said over tea. Ever since the incident she'd been staying longer at the manor. Bonnie herself hadn't been to her flat in weeks. Something about sleeping alone gave her panic attacks. She and Klaus declared their love for each other and became closer than ever. The investigation was speedy and the Mikealsons were cooperative. Klaus' use of the gun was authorized because it was to save his girlfriend.

Bonnie sipped her Earl Grey, "I guess he couldn't deal with any of it." They stormed Tyler's flat and found plenty of disturbing material on Klaus. Details from how he took his coffee, to poems about his blue eyes and how he hated every woman who touched him. There was also a very large twist.

"I can't believe he killed Katherine in Germany," Rebekah whispered. "That one just boggles the mind."

"Who was she?" Bonnie successfully kept the tremor from her voice.

Rebekah shook her head, "She worked with Nik in some capacity. I'm not really sure. I know she was in charge of his antiquity department. She travelled around buying art and selling it for his private collection. Anyway, they slept together once or twice. Nothing serious since she was a snake but I know Tyler hated her for it. Apparently during their trip to Germany, a year and some months ago, he snapped and stabbed in the street. The police ruled it a mugging but he wrote down all the details in his diary. I don't even want to imagine it. I mean she was always such a bitch but poor Katherine. I always just thought she'd finally quit you know? After Nik divorced Tatia, I guess she thought he'd turn his attention to her but he never did apart from the occasional shag. I remember walking in on them arguing one time. She kept telling him how he'd be sorry."

It felt like a spray of cold water on her person. Bonnie watched the other woman intently so find any hint of dishonesty but Rebekah truly believed she was telling the truth. Later that evening Bonnie met Elijah wanting to see the report for her. He was hesitant understandably but relented when she pleaded saying she needed to understand why he came after her.

And it was true.

Tyler was the one who killed Katherine. He killed her because he was jealous. And Klaus had absolutely no idea. None of them did until now.

The very foundation of her mission is torn in half. Was it all really just a coincidence? Was the reason Katherine gave Bonnie those documents because she was just heartbroken and vindictive? But the information on the guns was there. The suspicious shipping manifest on Tyler's computer. The evidence she'd been searching for since she made contact with Klaus. All of it. Was it even real?

"Are you alright?" Rebekah asked with a concerned look.

Bonnie plastered a fake smile, "I'm ok."

"I know this has been very hard on you. But I promise it'll get better. It'll be ok. Tyler's dead. He can't hurt you anymore," She places her on Bonne's in a comforting gesture.

"He can't hurt me anymore," Bonnie repeats numbly, unsure of who she's even talking about anymore.

She wore a black long-sleeved dress to their meeting. It was more formal than anything she'd ever worn to come and see him.

Damon waited for her to sit for no less than a second before tossing the folded-up paper on her lap. It was a copy of the police report. "That bastard tried to hurt you and you didn't tell me?"

"How did you find out?" Bonnie didn't seem surprised that he did.

He huffed, "Enzo has contacts in the station. Anything with the name Mikealson comes to us. When were you going to tell me?"

"I'm guessing you read the journal entries then," She sounded devoid of any emotion whatsoever. Damon noticed for the first time how tired she looked. The dark circles under her eyes. Her normally curly hair was in a straightened ponytail. Something about her was tied into place. Like a puppet just destringed. He couldn't let this go on for any longer. She'd already had one brush with death.

"It doesn't matter. Klaus had a hand in her death one way or another and it doesn't excuse the company papers, -"

"He's innocent Damon," Bonnie whispered. "I'm not doing this anymore."

He blinked in abject horror. For a moment he was certain he'd heard wrong. He misconstrued her words. But the tears that fell from her eyes let him know that this was no misunderstanding. No, no. All his fears are coming to life. They'd gotten to her. They did something to her. This is not Bonnie. This is -

"I'm sorry, I can't do this anymore," She sobbed and stood up from the bench walking away. She ignored Damon screaming her name until it was nothing but an echo in the distance.

"Where are you taking me?" Bonnie tried to keep the giddiness from her voice. Klaus had come home with a blind fold and told her to wear something pretty. He remained tight-lipped about where exactly he was taking her to. It was weeks since that fateful day in the park when she told Damon that she couldn't do it any longer. That she believed Klaus was innocent. She ignored their every attempt to contact her. She moved away from the flat to the manor. She still kept the phone but ignored the messages.

At the back of her head Bonnie knew she was playing with fire. Damon wouldn't just let her go. But if he truly still believed Klaus was a gun dealer, he wouldn't risk revealing her involvement and his part in it. Not to mention the lead she gave him on the shipping manifest was months yet they'd failed to find anything actually worthwhile on it.

That was it.

Klaus was innocent.

Her role was a secret for now but Bonnie prayed once the dust settled, she would be able to tell him and take whatever reaction he doled out. For a man once lauded as the worst man in the world, she'd seen through his hard exterior to see the parts not fit for public consumption. The sweet, compassionate and loving part of him.

"You are so bloody impatient," He complained, keeping his hand on her waist to steady her. Her heels clicked on wood. She tried to guess where they were. They came to a stop.

"Klaus?"

The blindfold came off. "Surprise."

She gasped. "Oh my gosh!"

Klaus grinned from ear to ear, "Do you like it?"

Bonnie jumped throwing her arms around him in a tight hug, "I love it! Thank you so much I love it! This is too much!"

In front of them, floating in the harbour, was a 100-foot yacht aptly named Bonnie girl. It was a gift for her. Klaus held her hand and led her on board where the friendly sailor Charles was waiting to show them around. It was opulent as could be with the large bedrooms, staterooms and deck. There was a bottle of champagne waiting for them on the deck. Klaus poured her a glass of the bubbly sweet champagne he knew she loved.

"This is nothing like what I expected," She confessed taking a satisfying gulp.

"At first I was worried you wouldn't like it since your tastes happen to run in fear at the prospect of the finer things," Klaus teased.

Bonnie rolled her eyes, "And to think someone thought I was a gold-digger the first time we met."

He shrugged, placing a hand on her lower back, "I can admit I was a fool. Now I know better."

"Me too. I love it because it came from you, doesn't matter if it's a yacht or a ring pop," She said to his lips. They kissed languidly savouring each other's company. The last few weeks were nothing easy. Bonnie's dreams of Katherine were replaced with dreams of Tyler, only Klaus took her place instead and didn't get saved. But she didn't want to focus on all that. She wanted to focus on the man before her and how much she loved him with all her heart. One day, she'd be able to tell him everything.

"There's another reason I wanted you here," Klaus muttered into her hair.

She hummed with her head on his chest, "What else? Is there another yacht hiding?"

He chuckled breathlessly, "You remember my trip to Cairo last week?"

Bonnie nodded holding his lapels tighter, "Did something happen?"

"Nothing bad at all. In fact, I went to acquire something and dare I say, I was quite successful," He pulled away and removed something from his jacket. It was a small box. Her heart thumped in her chest. "There was a ring rumoured to belong to Diane de Poitiers, the chief mistress of King Henry II. It was made from the largest emerald ever seen, fashioned on a white gold band and adorned in tiny diamonds. It was gifted to her by the king. Rumor had it that she was the one he truly loved. During the second world war, it got stolen and somehow found its way to Egypt. I went to confirm that rumour."

"And?" Bonnie couldn't keep her voice from shaking.

He opened the box and her breath was snatched for the second time that night. "I could only ask you with a ring fit for royalty. When I got married the first time, I did it to tick a box of accomplishments. I didn't care for her the way I should have. With you Bonnie, I've realized that having you love me is the accomplishment and one I seek to maintain for the rest of my life. Bonnie Sheila Bennett, will you marry me?"

She nodded so rapidly it was a wonder her head didn't fall off, "Yes, yes, yes!"

Klaus smiled with genuine mirth as he placed the ring on her shaky finger. Bonnie cried joyously kissing him with all the energy she had. "I love you so much. I really do."

"And I love you even more."

Nothing could take that away from them.

Rebekah didn't even wait a week before throwing an engagement party. "Finally, you meet a woman I approve of and you want me to wait?" She pleaded her case during Sunday dinner. She oohed and ahhed over the ring making heart eyes at its origin story. Bonnie never had any female friends to share such news with before so having Rebekah made her more than grateful.

Klaus sighed, "As long as you don't even think of planning the wedding."

Rebekah pouted, "That's denying me my birth right. Elijah, tell him."

Elijah smiled indulgently, "Niklaus just let her do it. You know she won't take no for an answer." That much was true. Whatever wedding planner was hired would unfortunately be found tied up in a closet because no one put Beks in a corner.

Klaus reached for his fiancées hand, "It's all up to Bonnie at the end of the day."

"Well I'm biased so of course I want you to plan it," Bonnie winked and Rebekah squealed for the tenth time that night. The blonde didn't even wait till dessert before she already had three venues mapped out on her napkin and a guest list of about 50 and counting. Bonnie didn't really have much in the way of people to invite. Maybe her dad and Sabine from the bookstore in New York.

There was the uncomfortable matter of a prenup but Klaus dashed it before Finn could even finish talking about it. The eldest liked Bonnie well enough but there were assets to be protected and Bonnie understood that very well ready to sign.

"I know you love me and I love you. I don't care about the money," She soothed after the shouting match with Finn earlier that day.

Klaus shook his head, "There is nothing that would make me let you go. Not even if you confessed to being a serial killer. So, there's no need for such an agreement. I'm never leaving you." She wondered if he would maintain that thought if he knew what she'd done and how she came into his life in the first place.

"Serial killer huh? Some might call that unwise," Bonnie massaged his tense shoulders kneeling behind him on the bed.

"I just love you that much," He smiled disarmingly. This was the happiest she'd ever been in her entire life.

Of course, nothing gold could stay.

On the night of the engagement party, the manor was stormed by police operatives.

"What is the meaning of this?" Elijah demanded to see a superior officer. Damon sauntered forward with a smirk and Bonnie felt her heart drop into the ground. His eyes fell to her for a second but pretended as though he had no idea who she was. He was still protecting her.

"Klaus Mikealson, you are under arrest for the illegal sale and purchase of weapons. You have the right to remain silent."

Klaus didn't struggle or say anything as he was being handcuffed. Bonnie dropped the flute of champagne she was drinking from on the ground shattering it. Finn was already calling the solicitor Marcel.

"This is a mistake. He's innocent!" She said frantically.

"This is just a misunderstanding love," Klaus assured. "I will be back soon." Damon gave her one last look before walking away with Klaus in tow. "I always knew I'd get you one day you dirty son of a bitch."

They were left with guests whispering excitedly at the turn of events. Bonnie felt like her body was turned to stone. She stood there unmoving even when Rebekah came to move her upstairs. It was her fault. All her fault. She'd gone and fallen in love with him forgetting exactly who he was. Now she was paying for it.

"Bonnie, Bonnie we have to move," Rebekah said but her words fell on deaf ears.

Bonnie fainted.

When she awoke, it was in their bedroom. She wasn't wearing the gold velvet dress she adorned for the party anymore. Rather it was Klaus' large Henley. The one she wore to sleep every night. The man himself sat at the foot of the bed waiting. She blinked twice. This was a dream. There was no other explanation. He was still in the suit he wore for the party. It was bright outside, like noon.

"Klaus?"

"Bonnie," He said her name in relief, stroking her forehead and examining her features. "I was worried when Elijah told me you fainted."

"They arrested you," She muttered trying to recall what happened.

Klaus smiled softly, "It was all an error. The American officer," He grimaced at the memory. "And MI5 and MI6 seemed to have the incorrect impression that I was some sort of arms dealer but it's been cleared up now."

"What do you mean?" Bonnie sat up with a frown. Damon looked so sure of himself when he hauled Klaus away. So certain he'd finally gotten what he wanted.

He sighed running his fingers through her hair, "The nature of the business means dealing with international players as you know. The American took this to mean I sell guns to terrorists for some reason. Apparently, he'd been looking into us for years now and never found any proof. He seemed to think he'd hit the jackpot with the medical equipment from Morocco and forced an illegal search of it when it arrived in Cairo. Unfortunately for him, there was nothing to be found. Unfortunately for us, the equipment got damaged and now the UN on is the government for diverting much needed medical supplies. Finn believes we might have cause to sue them." He chuckled humourlessly. "And all this because he happened to know a former employee of mine, Katherine Pierce."

"Katherine. The girl Tyler killed," Bonnie repeated swallowing.

"Yes. I learned that they had some sort of affair and she left him when she came to work for me. In his mind, I was the cause of such misfortune and he made it his life's mission to take me down." Klaus shook his head. "I seem to attract plenty of obsessive individuals."

She placed her palm over her mouth and sobbed hard. She cried for everything. For everyone. Katherine. Damon. Klaus. Herself. All of this. Everything was for nothing at the end of the day. The worst man in the world was nothing more than just a man. A man everyone wanted a piece of for reasons even they couldn't explain. Damon lost himself in his pain and made Klaus the living cause.

"Hey, it's ok," He hugged her, caressing her shoulders and kissing her temple. "I'm here now. No one will ever come between us again."

"I thought I lost you forever," Bonnie confessed.

"You'll never lose me," Klaus swore looking deep into her green eyes. Those eyes were the reason he scoured half the Middle East for that ring. The one that said she was his.

"I've done so many bad things," Her lower lip wobbled. "Things you'd never forgive me for."

"Then I don't want to hear it. I want you Bonnie Bennett, as you are. I love you as you are. I can say with a hundred percent uncertainty that I will love you no matter what but if you are unsure, then do not tell me," He said so fiercely.

She nodded slowly, digesting his words. He loved her and that was all she wanted. All she needed. She loved him too and was prepared to do so even when she thought he wasn't innocent and especially when she found out he was.

"The doctor told me something interesting," Klaus grinned. "You shouldn't be drinking anymore."

"Why?" Bonnie frowned.

"You're pregnant, love," He announced softly.

Her hand immediately went to her flat stomach, "Really? You're serious?" Deep down it made so much sense. She'd been feeling nausea for the past week but chalked it up to excitement. Her period had never been regular so she didn't notice it.

"He confirmed it while you were still passed out."

"We're having a baby," Bonnie smiled filled with so much joy.

Klaus rested his forehead on hers, "We are my love."

"I'm so sorry mate. I really thought we had him," Enzo apologised to his friend and partner. Their base of operations was shut down and Damon was being recalled back to the States. Due to the cluster fuck his actions caused, he was being suspended for six months. It was only his normally flawless track record which kept him from being fired and blacklisted completely.

Enzo too was suffering the same from his government.

Klaus Mikealson walked free and got a fucking apology for his troubles.

"The man is a cat. Never lands on his back," Damon muttered taking a large gulp of alcohol. Elena wanted a trial separation once he was forced to come clean about his affair with Katherine. That didn't even bother him as much as it should have. They were already on the rocks due to his constant travelling. It was just a matter of time on that front.

What pained him to the core was Bonnie. He'd lost her too. Not in the way Katherine was lost but now he had to see her on the arm of his most sworn enemy. Kissing him. Marrying him. News outlets ran the story of their fairy tale engagement 24 fucking hours.

It was his mistake. He'd been so desperate and willing to nail Klaus that he involved an innocent woman. And now she was caught in his web delusional that the man whose bed she now shared was innocent. Bonnie didn't deserve that. He needed to save her.

"When's your flight?" Enzo asked.

Damon shrugged, "Around four. I'll make it hopefully."

Enzo patted his shoulder, "We're the good guys. We'll always come on top one way or another."

Damon nodded absently. He wasn't sure anymore what to believe. Enzo left the flat for a final debrief at his agency. Damon just checked the time and half-heartedly watched whatever TV program was left on. His phone rang. It was a private number. That was strange.

He answered, "Who is this?"

"Hello old friend."

Damon sat up in alarm at the voice of the snake who'd lost him everything. "What the fuck do you want?"

Klaus chuckled, "You were so friendly during my arrest mate. Promising me a shorter sentence for confessing and all that rubbish. Sad to see that politeness gone to smoke. I guess that's what happens when you take a gamble and lose woefully."

He stood up pacing the room, "This isn't over. You may think you've won now but I assure you I will take you down."

"Pish posh. You weren't even playing a game. You were just an annoying fly buzzing in my radar and now I've swatted you away for good," Klaus said confidently. "I do have to thank you for one though. Bringing Bonnie to my radar. It's the reason you're not dead in a ditch."

Damon felt his heart freeze in her chest. "What do you mean?"

Klaus scoffed, "Now's not the time to play dumb. People assume I'm so snobbish I never take notice of others. But the truth is, I've got an impeccable memory. How could I forget that face? It took my breath away the very first time in Berlin."

Klaus had known. He'd known all along who Bonnie was. Damon panicked wondering how to contact her and tell her that her life was in danger. "Don't bother with panic. I don't want to kill her. The opposite in fact. I want to make sure she has a very long life with me. Marital bliss and all that."

"What do you want with her? She's innocent in all this," Damon pleaded for Bonnie.

Klaus chuckled, "I know that. You know, when Katherine first told me about you, I was very dismissive. She seemed to think you held some sort of threat but I knew better. Then again, she idiotically thought she could expose me because I refused to date her after one fuck."

"Your associate killed her for you because he was jealous."

"Yes, but not in the way you think. I'd always known about Tyler's fixation on me. Sadly, he was never my type. I also knew when Katherine wanted to betray me. I might have let it slip on accident to my dear friend Tyler that Katherine was a wild woman looking to betray me and tear apart my heart. The poor pup readily believed me too."

Damon couldn't believe what he was hearing. The man was truly sick, sicker than he ever imagined. And Bonnie was with him.

"I let my dearest Bonnie right to the shipping manifest knowing she'd take it to you. It was just a red herring to throw you off the trail and it all worked marvellously," He said delighted.

"You played us all," Damon realized helplessly.

"I am the master of my environment Mr Salvatore. It was just unfortunate for you that we were playing on uneven ground. Let me tell you a little secret; I actually planned to kill Bonnie at first. But then I got to know her and realized she's all I ever wanted and I'll never let her go. You have yourself to thank for that," Klaus stated.

Damon fell to his knees truly comprehending everything he'd lost. "This isn't over." It was a last attempt to convince himself. But he knew the truth deep down.

"Mate, it was over for you before it even started. Now I have to go. My darling fiancée beckons. I just wanted you to hear my voice one last time with the knowledge that I've completely destroyed you." The line went dead.

Damon threw his head back and cried.

Hope that ending was satisfying and more. Sometimes it's fun to give the bad guys a happy ending lol.
