Carve the Mark

I see the ruins of the town,

Where long ago the bombs came down.

In year of 2041,

On mankind set the final sun.

...

From high above the bombs were dropped.

Life as we knew it came to stop.

Then there came invasion wave,

Legions of xenos most depraved.

...

Rifles with howitzer yield,

Tanks with nigh-impervious shields.

Beyond their march, spread of disease,

Sickness brought survivours to their knees.

...

The human race is near-extinct,

Earth belongs to toads and skinks.

So standing here, I carve a mark,

Upon the dying stringybark.

...

A message that we once were here,

Some survived the war of terror, fear.

At least upon this landmass dry,

Where hopes and dreams have long since died.

...

Planet Earth's no more our own,

By what's left of us, a fact bemoaned.

So on I trudge by ruined road,

As heart still carries heavy load.
