Official Disclaimer

The characters of Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett, Lieutenant Chin Ho Kelly, Officer Kono Kalakaua, Agent Jenna O'Connor nee Kaye, Adam 'Toast' Charles, Kamekona and Governor Sam Denning do not belong to me in any fashion. I am merely using them for my own entertainment purposes.

The character of Lieutenant Danielle 'Danni' Williams probably can be considered to be mine by now. Although she was originally based on the male version of Danny, she soon evolved and became her own person. She has her own background, her own family and the history which goes with it, not to mention different character traits. That isn't to say that the Danny Williams we all know and love is completely gone, he still emerges through her at time. I like to think of female Danni as what Danny could have been like if everything in his life had gone his way. As in full custody of Grace and a decent relationship based in friendship with his ex.

The character of Grace has also changed slightly due to this change in Danni's character. Her surname for one is Taylor rather than Williams as this is her father's surname and was Danni's married name (Danni chose to revert back to her maiden name when divorced?. Her parents are also amicable which has also impacted Grace but never fear, she is still the sweetheart we all know and love, if anything she is even more of a character now.

The characters of Lieutenant Colonel David Williams, Supervisory Special Agent in charge Jack O'Connor, Lieutenant Commander Riley King, Lieutenant Louisa Palakiko-Cowan, Emily 'Emmy' McGarrett, James 'Jago' McGarrett, Oliver 'Ollie' McGarrett, Medical Examiner Rosamund 'Ros / Rosie' Lange do all belong to me so please do not use without first asking permission.

Any other character who might pop up who isn't instantly recognisable from the show probably belongs to me as well!

Chapter Six

Saturday Morning Part One

Danni jerked awake with a pained cry when a weight suddenly jumped onto her back, abruptly dragging her out of her deep sleep leaving her mind trying desperately to figure out what was happening and whether they were under attack.

She realised groggily that she was lying on her front in bed with Steve beside her on his back, one arm flung over his eyes while the other rested on top of the duvet meaning that he wasn't responsible for whatever it was that had awakened her. She sucked in a lungful of air, noting that the covers had been pulled over them again though this time it hadn't mattered since both of them had sleepily pulled on some sleep wear the night before. She frowned when she heard Steve speak up, indicating that he was in fact awake rather than asleep as she had first thought.

"Emily, why did you jump on your Mother's back when you know you're not allowed to do that, especially when she's still asleep." Steve demanded, a disapproving tone to his voice which Danni knew would kill Emily to hear. She kept her eyes closed when she felt her daughter's small body roll off of her, showing just how out of it Danni still was if her brain hadn't picked up on the additional weight.

"I'm sorry Daddy, I called from the door but you didn't answer so I climbed up for my hug." Emily said in a subdued tone which pulled at her heart. She heard Steve sigh before he spoke again.

"Are you okay Ku'u Lei?" Steve asked her, resting his hand on her back. Danni tilted her head on the pillow, opening her eyes to see that Emily was curled up beside her while Steve was watching her with a questioning look on his face. Danni opened her mouth to assure them both that she was okay when she stopped as her hand gave an unpleasant throb, her eyes closing when she realised that it must have been underneath her when Emily struck. "Danni?" Steve pressed, concern coming to his voice. "Hey, come on talk to me, are you hurt or injured?"

"I'm pretty sure that being hurt and injured are the same thing Steve." She corrected him automatically, hoping to ease some of his concern with their familiar banter which clearly was unsuccessful by the fact he didn't react and instead continued to stare at her.

"Mamma?" Emily said, the mattress dipping down as the small girl scampered around her, her face appearing directly in Danni's sightline with a worried look which matched the one on her father's face. Clearly she had been listening in to what they had been saying to one another. Danni breathed out slowly, lifting her head from the pillow and met her daughter's eyes, forcing a smile onto her face which clearly failed in it's job of reassuring her daughter when Emily reacted to it with tears filling her eyes. "Oh no Mamma, did I hurt you? Mamma I'm so sorry."

Steve reached over and wrapped his arm around Emily's waist, lifting the small girl up easily and placed her down on the floor before he turned his attention back to Danni, gripping her shoulder lightly and pushed her onto her back, his eyes automatically dropping to her hand which she was still cradling to her body. She hissed when he reached out and picked it up, his eyes immediately snapping up to her.

"Danni" He murmured, a thousand questions in his tone as he used his free hand to brush his thumb across her cheekbone, swiping away the single tear which escaped her.

"Mamma" Emily called out again in a tearful voice, the sound pulling Danni into action. She sat up, thankful to see that nothing else in her body appeared to be hurt and breathed in, her gaze focusing on her scared looking daughter.

"Everything is going to be okay Emmy, don't worry." She assured her daughter with a smile. "I am hurt but it's nothing serious and your Daddy is taking good care of me so I'm going to be absolutely fine." She wished that she could have given Emily another answer but she had deciding from day one of being a mother that she would always be honest with her children, regardless of whether that meant good or bad news. She had no intention of changing that now.

Emily stared at her for a moment before her lower lip began to tremble and fat tears escaped from her eyes, trailing down her cheeks as she began to wail, the sound disturbing the boys in the next room and setting off a chain reaction of screams and crying.

Danni sighed at the noise, biting down on her lower lip as she closed her eyes for a moment. This was not how she had picture her morning to be, that much was for sure.

"Danni, look at me." Steve said softly, his attention clearly fixed on her, ignoring the sound of his three crying children. She breathed in, taking a moment to centre herself before she opened her eyes again and met his gaze.

"I wasn't lying when I told Emmy it was going to be fine, the most I've done is sprain it slightly and that was only because it was under my body when Emmy climbed up. She didn't even use that much forced, she just fell onto my back." Danni said. "We've got bigger things to deal with, like one distraught daughter and two peeved off sons who clearly are taking after me in the way they don't particularly like waking up early so let's deal with them first, wrap my wrist up afterwards and get on with the day we have planned okay? One issue at a time."

"Damn it Danni" Steve muttered as he reluctantly let go of her hand and came to his feet, both of them looking towards the door when there was a brisk knock on it followed by it opening and Grace sticking her head through, a look of concern on her face.

"Mamma is everything okay in here?" She demanded, staring at Danni with a questioning look.

"Everything is fine Monkey, I'm sorry if the noise woke you up." Danni assured her eldest as she leaned down and picked up Emily from the floor, thankful that other than a twinge, her wrist felt okay. She settled her daughter in her lap, wrapping her arms around her before she focused on Grace who was still hovering in the doorway, clearly unsure of what she should do in the currently situation. "Gracie, can you do me a favour and go and get your sister's pink cup from the kitchen and fill it with fresh water please?" She asked.

"Yeah of course Mamma, give me a moment and I'll be right back with it" Grace agreed readily looking relieved to have something to do before she disappeared. Danni listened to the sound of her running feet before she turned to look at Steve who gave her another long considering look before he headed across their room and into the boys room, closing the door behind him and leaving Danni alone with Emily.

Danni breathed out slowly, gently rocking Emily as she hummed softly to the crying girl, brushing kisses over the top of her tangled dark hair, tangles which she noted absently would be a nightmare to get out. She waited patiently until the sobs finally eased off leaving Emily resting against her, her face tucked into her neck, her breathe still occasionally hitching showing how strong a crying storm it had been. She rubbed her hand up and down Emily's back before she spoke, her voice soft but firm in a way which Danni knew Emily would recognise.

"Me getting hurt by something you did gave you a nasty shock didn't it." She murmured, tightening her hold when she felt fresh tears against her skin as Emily nodded. "There, there my Butterfly, there's no need for more tears, Mamma is fine but we do need to talk." She told her, taking a moment to simply hold her as she tried to figure out the best way for this talk to go. She could leave it to Steve but she knew that her husband never reacted well to anything happening to Danni,

It would be easy for her to simply let it slide and chalk it up to Emily being overexcited about the holiday but she and Steve had made a promise to each other that they would always keep a close eye on their children just in case any of their worst qualities emerged. They had been lucky with Emily, that much she knew, but that didn't mean that their daughter didn't have her flaws. She tended to dig her feet in if she thought that she was right and more often then not had to be told not to do something multiple times before she finally listened. If they didn't teach her how to compromise and to face up to her mistakes when she was still young enough to learn from them, then it would only end up causing her issues in the future.

"Mamma" Emily said on a sniff.

"I know Emily that both your Daddy and I have told you before not to jump on me when I was in bed and not ready for you, didn't we?" She asked, ducking her head down so she could meet Emily's wet grey eyes, her hand coming up to brush the remainder of Emily's tears away when Emily nodded slowly, her eyes dropping away. "Do you remember that last time you did jump on me that I was hurt that time as well?" She asked.

"Yes Mamma" Emily said lowly, the grip she had on Danni's top tightening.

"Then why my Butterfly did you do it this time after being told not to?" She asked, meeting Emily's gaze again with a look which she knew made it clear that she wanted an answer.

"I… I… just wanted a hug Mamma" Emily admitted as she began to cry again.

"Ah Sweetheart." Danni said on a sigh, cuddling her close to her again. "I love that you love our hugs together because I love them as well, they are one of the highlights of Mamma's day but you must not jump on me again. I know you've got a lot better at it but you have to remember to always do it so something like this doesn't happen again. If your Daddy or I tell you something then you must listen to us and obey what we tell you because we're telling you for a reason Emily and it's always in your best interest even if it doesn't make sense, do you understand?" She asked, relieved when Emily nodded at her, a serious look on her face.

"Yes Mamma" She said in a determined voice which made Danni smile.

"That's my girl, its okay to make mistakes but we just have to make sure we work on not making them over and over again." She stated as she leaned down and kissed her on her forehead before looking up as Steve entered the room again, this time holding two content little babies against his bare shoulders. He looked at Danni and Emily an expression on his face which told Danni that her husband was extremely unhappy with their youngest daughter at that moment in time.

Emily looked up at his entrance as well, her eyes widening when she caught sight of her face. She turned, snuggling close to Danni who automatically wrapped her arms tighter around her before she spoke.

"I'm sorry Daddy," She said quietly.

Danni nibbled at her lower lip as she watched Steve stare at Emily for a moment as though he was trying to determine whether she meant what she said or whether she was simply saying what she thought they wanted her to say. He sat down beside them, a serious look on his face.

"I appreciate you saying sorry Emily without any prompting but it doesn't change the fact that your Mamma has been hurt because you intentionally disobeyed us over this matter. From now on, you have to knock on the bedroom door before you can enter and will have to wait until to come in until we say you can, the only time you can come in without permission is if you're ill, hurt or there is an emergency." He told her sternly.

"Steve" Danni interjected softly, stopping when he held up his hand at her, his eyes snapping up to hers with a look which made it clear that he was handling the issue and the punishment.

"Do you understand me Emily?" Steve asked, turning back to their daughter who was watching him with a pleading look on her face, her shoulders sagging down when he merely stared at her. Danni remained quiet as she looked down at Emily, hating that her child was upset but knowing that she had to back up Steve, they had to present an united front. Hopefully once he had cooled down she could speak to him and at least try and have him put a time limit on how long her punishment would last especially as she knew that Emily hadn't done it out of spite, just carelessness. She rubbed her hand up and down Emily's back, glancing back at Steve. "Emily Mary Caitlin McGarrett I asked you a question and I expect an answer from you, do you understand me." Steve demanded, a rare sharp tone to his voice.

"Yes Daddy" She answered immediately, dropping her head down.

Steve placed James and Oliver onto the mattress for a moment, making sure they were comfortable before he reached out and took Emily from Danni, holding her close as he spoke.

"I love you Emily and nothing is going to change that fact and I know that you think we're being harsh on you and perhaps we are but it's only because we care so much about you. You have to follow the rules we set for you because they are important and they keep everyone safe including us. If your Mamma and I tell you something its because we mean it and we want you to obey us." He told her, his tone softening.

Danni smiled when Emily nodded and turned to look at her.

"We love you to the edges of the universe and beyond my little Butterfly." She said, smiling when the tension eased out of Emily's small body at her words, causing her to sag back against Steve's chest.

"Mamma, sorry it took me so long but I have the cup" Grace stated as she entered the room, the cup held in one hand, clearly relieved that the noise was over, the streak of what looked like flour across her cheek made it clear that her eldest had started breakfast in an effort to stay away from the noise, something which she couldn't blame her for. It had only happened a few times but when all three kids screamed at the same time it definitely resulted in headaches for everyone around.

"Pancakes?" Danni couldn't help but ask with a smile as Grace handed the bright pink cup over to Emily who took it eagerly and began drinking from it, her crying fit clearly leaving her thirsty.

"I've just prepared the batter for you Mamma ready for you to add everything into it that needs to be put in, I can never get them like you can." Grace said on a sigh as she shook her head.

"You will with practice Gracie and thank you for doing that, it was incredibly thoughtful of you." She said pulling Grace over to her and giving her a hug, smiling when Grace immediately wrapped her own arms around her and hugged her back tightly.

"Grace, would you mind taking your brothers and Emily to the kitchen with you, your Mom and I will be with you in a moment once we've dealt with something." Steve asked, speaking up.

Grace blinked at him in surprised before her eyes swept over them again, her gaze lingering on Danni's wrist before she nodded, clearly putting two and two together.

"Yeah that's no problem, I'll get the stuff for the coffee machine ready for you as well." She told them as she took the twins from Steve. "Come on Emily." She said, her voice turning slightly chillier.

"Coming Gracie." Emily said, moving out of Steve's hold before she climbed off on the bed and slowly followed her siblings from the room, the distraught set of her shoulders pulling at Danni's heart.

"It's fine Steve, really, just the odd sharp twinge when I moved it around, a day's rest and it will be as right as rain," She stared, holding out her wrist to him as though to prove her statement.

He reached out and took it, gently prodding at it as though he was trying to determine the damage before he looked up and smiled.

"I think you're right, we'll keep it wrapped up today and use a cold pack on it which should deal with the slight swelling. Stay here while I go and get the first aid kit from the bathroom." He said as he came to his feet and walked swiftly out of the room, leaving he alone for a moment before he reappeared, a box in hand. He handed her some pain killers and a bottle of water from the side table, waiting until she swallowed them before he began to gently wrap it up.

"This was not in my plan for this morning I've got to say." Danni stated on a sigh as she shook her head. "I was hoping that we would wake up before the kids did and have some more adult fun together but clearly Emily had other plans." She commented, hissing slightly when he twisted it a certain way before she continued to speak. "I think you were perhaps a bit too harsh on Emmy, Steve. She turned three only five days ago and she clearly didn't mean for this to happen. She's just a baby."

"I know she is Danni which is why we've got to drum in the lessons now when she is still young enough to listen to us. Sometimes the gentle approach isn't the right approach even for someone like Emily." Steve replied, looking up from his task to meet her gaze.

"She thinks you're angry with her, I could tell." Danni pointed out softly.

"Then she's observant because I am angry with her Danni and I'm disappointed as well that she did this after we specifically told her not to. I know she's little more than a baby but she had to learn and I know that you know that as well." Steve said, the comment causing Danni to sigh even as she nodded.

"I know you're right, I just hate seeing any of them upset." She admitted.

"Me too but it had to be done." Steve said with a shrug. "You'll have to use the carry pouch for James and Oliver, depending which one you have with you because you won't be able to hold them properly today unless you want to cause yourself more damage. You'll be fine with the stroller I think if we bring it with us because you can push with your good hand and rest the other one on the handle." He remarked thoughtfully.

"We'll manage fine." Danni told him with a shrug. "Having one of them in the carrier is hardly anything new for either of us."

"True, plus you'll have Grace and I here to lend you a hand with anything you need. Let us do the heavy lifting for once while you rest up." He suggested, lowering her hand now that he had finished his task and instead brought his hand to her face, leaning in and kissing her softly before he leaned back. "Morning by the way." He commented, a gleam of amusement and desire in his eyes as his thumb stroke across her cheekbone before he bridged the gap between them again, pushing her down and covered her body with his as they kissed.

"See as much as I want to continue this, we have four children waiting for us in the kitchen, two of which I have to feed so this will have to wait." She said softly, picking up on the regret in her voice.

"If it makes you feel any better than this was how I was planning on waking you up, I just didn't expect our daughter to have other plans." He said, giving her a final kiss before he rolled off of her and came up to his feet, holding his hand out to her. "So rest your wrist today and it be fine, do you still want us to do what we had planned today?" He asked as she placed her hand in his and allowed him to pull her up to her feet, both of them moving over to the set of drawers where they had unpacked their clothes the night before.

"I say we keep to whatever plan you and Grace came up to before, you said it before that all I need to do is rest it and I can do that easily enough. I've had plenty of worse injuries then this one and if they didn't hold me back from getting on with things then this one certainly won't." She stated stubbornly as she pulled out a flared skirt and a simple vest top and threw them on the bed before picking out her underwear.

"The last thing I want to think about is the other close calls which you've had while on the job Danni, I still have nightmares about them like the time you and Kono got taken by those psycho brothers and they tried to stake you like you were some sort of vampire." He remarked, a dark look coming to his eyes as he thought back to that particular event.

"That definitely wasn't one of my favourite cases I'll be honest but we both know that risks like that come part and parcel with the job." Danni admitted as she swiftly pulled on her underwear, smiling at Steve when he moved around her, pushing her hands away and secured her bra for her, absently stoking his hand down her back before he moved away to finish getting dressed.

"Doesn't make it any easier." He replied as he pulled on his t-shirt before he spoke. "I'm guessing from the look Grace gave Emily that she's well aware of how you ended up being hurt?"

"She's probably guessed" Danni replied as she finished putting on her mascara and headed out of the room towards the bathroom, aware of Steve following her into it and closing the door behind them. She past him his toothbrush before grabbing the toothpaste and putting it on her own. "Which means that she'll no doubt give Emmy the cold shoulder for a hour or two." She added before quickly brushing her teeth, Steve doing the same thing beside her. She spat it out, turning the tap on and washed her toothbrush as she spoke. "You've got to remember that for a long time it was just me, Grace and Duncan on the island and it cemented the bond we had together. Grace and I are very…" She hesitated for a moment over her wording before she continued. "Protective over each other, it's too engrained in us for anything else. Why do you think she was so wary of you when you first met? She considered you a threat to what we had."

"I had figured out that much for myself." He said ruefully. She smiled at him, knowing that he was no doubt replaying the first year he had known Grace and all the mistake which he had told her in the past which he had made. Thankfully it was a time period which was behind them now with Steve happily settling into the role of step father to Grace who seemed happy enough to have him around though she still called him Uncle Steve, something Danni was positive wouldn't change now, no doubt seeing it as an insult to her own father to call Steve anything else. "Perhaps this is a good thing and earning the disapproval of her beloved older sister will help Emmy learn her lesson this time around" He commented thoughtfully.

"Only time will tell." Danni replied with a shrug before she smiled at him. "We need to go, I think we've left Grace alone enough with her sister and brothers. I've still got two hungry boys to feed and pancakes to make." She pointed out, heading out of the bathroom and walking down the small corridor towards the kitchen.

She was hungry and pancakes waited for no one.
