Official Disclaimer
The characters of Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett, Lieutenant Chin Ho Kelly, Officer Kono Kalakaua, Agent Jenna O'Connor nee Kaye, Adam 'Toast' Charles, Kamekona and Governor Sam Denning do not belong to me in any fashion. I am merely using them for my own entertainment purposes.
The character of Lieutenant Danielle 'Danni' Williams probably can be considered to be mine by now. Although she was originally based on the male version of Danny, she soon evolved and became her own person. She has her own background, her own family and the history which goes with it, not to mention different character traits. That isn't to say that the Danny Williams we all know and love is completely gone, he still emerges through her at time. I like to think of female Danni as what Danny could have been like if everything in his life had gone his way. As in full custody of Grace and a decent relationship based in friendship with his ex.
The character of Grace has also changed slightly due to this change in Danni's character. Her surname for one is Taylor rather than Williams as this is her father's surname and was Danni's married name (Danni chose to revert back to her maiden name when divorced?. Her parents are also amicable which has also impacted Grace but never fear, she is still the sweetheart we all know and love, if anything she is even more of a character now.
The characters of Lieutenant Colonel David Williams, Supervisory Special Agent in charge Jack O'Connor, Lieutenant Commander Riley King, Lieutenant Louisa Palakiko-Cowan, Emily 'Emmy' McGarrett, James 'Jago' McGarrett, Oliver 'Ollie' McGarrett, Medical Examiner Rosamund 'Ros / Rosie' Lange do all belong to me so please do not use without first asking permission.
Any other character who might pop up who isn't instantly recognisable from the show probably belongs to me as well!

Chapter Eight
Saturday Morning – Part Two
"Right then" Danni announced as she walked into the kitchen, her eyes moving over the scene as she continued to speak. "If we want pancakes today then I'm going to need some help. Steve, I need you to pour me a coffee to start with because I need some caffeine, Grace could you help me by setting the table quickly?" She asked.
"No problem Mamma, are you going to be okay at flipping the pancakes?" Grace asked as she came to her feet and headed straight towards the drawer which held the knives and forks which they would need.
"I'll be fine Gracie, luckily your Granddad Bobby taught me how to flip pancakes with one hand so we should be good to go. Steve, did we pack the maple syrup" She asked her husband as she moved towards the bowl, looking that at the mixture which Grace had created and smiling when she saw that her daughter had done it perfectly. She reached out and picked up a spoon giving it a quick stir before she opened one of the cupboards pulling out the bag of chocolate chip cookies which she had made sure to bring with her.
"We did and here's your coffee" Steve stated, placing both the mug and the syrup beside her on the counter. "I'm just going above deck to see how everything is up there, I'll be back in a moment." He leaned down and kissed her before moving past her out of the room in the direction of the hatch.
Danni picked up her mug and took a sip, making a humming noise at the back of her throat at the rich taste before she added the chocolate chips and got to work.
Within fifteen minutes the pancakes were made and stacked on a plate in the middle of the table, all of them sitting down. Danni couldn't help but notice there was some residual tension so she set about disarming it, determined not to have a small accident ruin their day.
"So what shall we do today because it is way too nice to stay here indoors." Danni said brightly as she bit into her pancake and smiled, they were damn good if she said so herself and light enough that she could simply use the edge of her fork to cut them up. "I saw a leaflet when we were at Pearl yesterday and apparently there's a funfair happening today in town which we could go to, I know Steve mentioned yesterday about having plans but I'm pretty sure that today was the last day for it so if we wanted to go then it would have to be today." She said, watching her family closely for their reactions.
"There's a funfair in town?" Grace demanded, her face brightening at the suggestions. "Did the leaflet say whether they would have lots of rides there that we could go on?" She asked Danni who thought back to the leaflet which she had read and nodded slowly.
"I'm pretty positive that they were advertising rides on it and it has all the ones you'd expect like a merry go around and a ghost train." Danni confirmed, noting the wide grin Grace shot her as she clapped her hands together before turning to look at Emily, her previous unhappiness about the part her sister had played in Danni's injury clearly forgotten in her excitement.
"Hey Emmy, we'll have to go on the merry go round together, you're going to love it because it's so much fun. Me and Mamma used to always go to the local funfairs when we still lived in New Jersey, they were massive and they had a huge selection of junk food and Mamma always let us have some as a treat." Grace told her sister's whose eyes widened at the news.
"Is Jago and Ollie too small for the rides?" Emily asked curiously, her eyes flickering over to James and Oliver who were in their Moses baskets, thankfully still satisfied from the feed they had at five that morning. She smiled at Steve when he joined them, shooting them a curious look as he took his seat.
"Everything okay?" She asked him, smiling when he nodded at him.
"The old man in the boat next to us was on deck and struck up a conversation, I couldn't get away." Steve admitted with a shake of his head. "What are we talking about though? I heard Emily say something about James and Oliver being too small for a ride?" He asked picking up the plate of pancakes and adding four to his own dish.
"Mamma was just telling us that she had seen a flyer yesterday when we were at Pearl for a funfair that is going on today, it's the last day for it." Grace explained as she picked up her glass of orange juice and took a sip, her eyes flickering over to Danni when she spoke, answering Emily's previous question.
"Jago and Ollie are too small to be able to go around by themselves but maybe they could go on some of the simple rides with your Daddy and he can hold them." She said before she turned to look at Steve. "Sorry, I know you said you had an idea about what to do today but the fair completely slipped my mind until now. I know how much Grace loves them and Emmy hasn't actually been to one before so…" Her voice trailed off, thankful to see him merely nod at them.
"The funfair sounds like a great idea, mine and Grace's plans will easily keep to tomorrow right Grace?" He asked the teenager who gave his question a moment of consideration before nodding.
"It will definitely keep." She agreed.
"Funfair it is then, I'm game to see how the boys like it. There should be some games we can play as well." He said, meeting Danni's eyes as he continued. "I saw the leaflet as well and I think it mentioned there being some face painters who are going to be there working the scene. There was a name I recognised from your school bazaar last year Grace, someone called Anastasia, do you remember her?"
"Yeah I definitely remember her though she didn't paint my face for me. Do you remember her Mamma, she was the cool looking one with dark purple hair who drew the leaping dolphins on my shoulder for me. Do you think I could get another one done if we have the time?" She asked Danni who grinned at her.
"We'll make sure that we make the time Gracie, she did a great job on the Dolphins and you didn't have any reaction to the paints she used so I'm happy for you to get it done again. Emmy would you like to get your face painted as a treat?" Danni asked Emily, who simply stared at her with wide eyes looking as though she was in heaven.
"Butterfly please?" She asked hopefully, the answer melting Danni's heart as she nodded.
"I'm sure she could draw you a butterfly." She replied before she looked down at their plates, noticing that everyone had cleared them. "Now is everyone good for food, no one wants anymore because there is a bit of the mixture made that I can make into a few more pancakes if people want, just bear in mind that we will be eating at the funfair." She told them before smiling at Grace. "By the way Monkey, the batter you made was perfect, good job on that, next time we make any, I'll show you the correct ratio of chocolate chip you need to add to it." She promised, pleased when Grace grinned and nodded. Cooking was something Danni loved and she had been hoping to be able to pass on her various recipes to her children one day for them to cook for themselves.
"I think everyone is good to go with the pancakes Babe." Steve responded for them. "Are you going to be okay feeding the kids with your wrist?" He asked her seriously, nodding towards it.
"I'll be fine, There was barely a twinge through breakfast." She said, automatically reaching out and running her hand over the top of Emily's head.
"Okay, in that case, you go and take care of that while I take care of the dishes. Grace could you take Emily back to your room and help her get dressed, Danni I'm assuming you've picked out an outfit for her?" He queried.
"Picked it out last night, it's on top of the chest of drawers in your room Gracie." Danni told her eldest with a smile.
"That's no problem, come up Ems, lets go and get you dressed for the day." Grace said, holding out her hand to Emily who immediately took it, leaving the room together.
Danni came to her feet and picked up James's Moses basket in her good hand before picking up the other one, she tested it for a moment before placing it back on the side and turning to Steve who was watching her as he collected the dishes together.
"Okay, so it might be best if you carry Oliver Moses's basket to the bedroom for me Steve. I could do it but I felt a slight twinge when I picked it up and the last thing I want to do is risk pulling it further and it taking longer to heal up." Danni said.
"Glad you asked" Steve said, placing the pile of plates back onto the table and moving towards her, easily picking up Oliver's Moses basket and stealing the one she was holding already, winking at her when she rolled her eyes at him. "Our bedroom?" He asked,
"Yeah, it's probably the best place for it." She agreed. "I want to give Emmy and both boys a bath and wash their hair tonight as well, I was going to do it this morning but with the funfair it's probably better to wait. Have we the baby baths with us?" She asked, smiling when he immediately nodded. "Of course we do, you've planned everything."
"You taught me everything you know about planning Ku'u Lei." He replied happily, helping her get settled on the chair in the room before he reached down and picked up James, resting her in the crook of her uninjured hand. "How's that, you comfortable?" He questions, hovering for a moment.
"It feels fine." She replied, dropping her eyes to her son and focusing on the task at hand, once he was latched on she looked up at him. "Breakfast between Grace and Emmy seemed to go well." She said with a smile, which grew when Steve laughed.
"You knew talking about the funfair would make Grace remember the ones she had been to in the past and put her in a good mood didn't you." He accused lightly with no bite to his tone.
"Perhaps I did, perhaps I didn't" she replied, shrugging one shoulder. "I know you were planning on doing the dishes but could you wait with me? It be a lot easier if you can take Jago from me and pass me Oliver rather then me trying to do it myself." She admitted.
"I wasn't planning on going until you were finished." He told her, perching himself on the edge of the bed and watching her. She glanced up and met his gaze, raising her eyebrow at him.
"What's with the look on your face?" She asked curiously.
"No look in the way you're thinking" He replied. "I'm just thinking about how beautiful you look feeding our son, that's all. I know that this is a special time for you so the fact that you let me share it with you, it means a lot to me." He admitted softly.
Danni looked away swallowing hard for a moment against the sudden lump which came to her throat wondering how Steve always managed to blindside her with comments like the one which he had just made.
"You're their father Steve, of course you're part of it." She replied, clearing her throat, noting the way her voice came out huskily.
"Not all mothers feel that way so I'm glad that you're not like that." He said, coming back to his feet and picking Oliver up, holding him close to him, kissing their son's head.
"Okay Jago is done, one more to go." She said out loud, looking up at Steve who nodded and leaned down, taking James from her and passing her Oliver before he swiftly began to wind James, smiling when the small baby let out a big burp. "That's my boy" Danni said proudly.
"I think you mean my boy because he takes after me." Steve said cheekily. "There should be some cotton candy there for you at the funfair, that's the real reason why you want to go to the funfair, admit it."
"Damn it beloved, you've seen through my plan." She stated on a laugh, sharing a smile with him.
Once Oliver was fed it didn't take long for them to be ready to go, making sure as usual that they had everything which they was needed. Emily was thankfully back to her normal, cheerful self and was clearly extremely excited about their plans for the day, if the way she was looking around her frantically as they walked down the dock was any indication for them to go by.
"Where's the fair Daddy?" She demanded, tilting her head back and looking at Steve from where he was walking beside them, pushing the boys pram while Danni walked beside the stroller since Grace had insisted on pushing her sister.
"The funfair isn't here right now Emily, we need to get a bus in order to get to where we need to go so we're going to the bus stop now." Steve told his daughter, sharing an amused look with Danni when Emily's eyes widened at the news.
"The bus" She replied. "Gracie, we're going on a bus."
"That we are Emmy." Grace replied with a nod before she changed the subject quickly. "Hey, here's one of the flyers that you were talking about Mamma." She said, veering away slightly so she could pick one up, looking over at it before she grinned. "Man, I love Hawaii, Mamma." She said happily, the comment causing Danni to roll her eyes even as she grinned.
"See, I told you that I wasn't the only one in our family who loved Hawaii. Grace loves it as well, Emily loved it and give me time and I'll convert James and Oliver to it as well." Steve promised, winking at Danni who sighed in response, knowing that he would easily make the twins love Hawaii. It was a foregone conclusion.
"Gracie and Emmy might be a lost cause when it comes to their love of Hawaii but Jago and Ollie are my baby boys and they will listen to their Mamma when it comes to seeing things beyond this beautiful island." Danni responded turning away from Steve as the bus pulled up beside them. They jumped on, Steve wrestling with the pram and helping Danni with the stroller before they herded the children to the back of the bus towards some empty seats. She had just settled down with Emily perched on her lap when Steve sat beside her, James and Oliver in his arms.
The journey went quickly, filled with laughter and the children talking over to each other in a mixture of English and Hawaiian. They quickly attracted attention as well though people left them alone, clearly recognising both Danni and Steve as members of Five-O. The recognition they received worried Danni but it simply seemed to amuse Steve, something which she could never understand given how protective he was of their children. She waited until they were off the bus, the girls waving goodbye to everyone before she spoke.
"Tell me Steve." Danni murmured quietly to Steve when they were walking again. "Why exactly do you find it so amusing when people recognise us?"
Steve grinned at her, reaching out and wrapping his hand around the back of her neck, moving closer to her in case she needed him.
"I find it amusing because they know that we're here which means that there won't be any problems because the last thing they will want is for the King and Queen of Five-O to be up in their business." Steve said, his grin swiftly turning into a smirk as he dropped in the nicknames which she knew that people tended to refer to Steve and Danni as behind their backs.
"Well that is true." Danni agreed with a nod. "I think it's safe to say that we have built ourselves quite the reputations. The last thing I want is for anything to effect this holiday, especially anything which could be related to work at all." She stated.
"Mamma, Daddy we're nearly there." Emily said from where she was sitting. "Let's go Mamma"
"We're going Emmy, we're going." Danni said with a laugh. "It's just over there in the distance, what are we going to do first when we get there is the question?"
She breathed out when both girls began discussing it between them before they arrived.
"Here we are." Steve announced as Danni moved around and unstrapped Emily, placing her on the ground before she hunched down in front of her.
"You have to stay with us Emmy, no running off at all or you'll be in the stroller again and you won't be coming out until we're home. It's dangerous here okay?" She said, waiting until Emily nodded at her before she stood back up, looking around her with a grin as she took in the familiar sights and scents.
"Right, I saw you both talking about it so where have you decided to start at?" Steve asked Grace and Emily, his eyes flickering between them, before he looked around him, a look in his eyes which Danni recognised as him going into high alert.
"Merry go round please Daddy." Emily pleaded, looking at them with a hopeful expression as she danced excitedly from one foot to the other. Steve glanced towards Danni, raising an eyebrow at her questioningly. She nodded at him before she looked back at Emily and Grace, both of them who were clearly waiting for their permission.
"The Merry go round it is then." Danni answered with a nod, her eyes coming up to look at the large ride which stood front and centre.
"What are you going to do, are you coming on with us?" Steve asked as they began walking towards it, Emily clinging to Danni's good hand.
"No, someone has to stay with our belongings. You take the boys and Emmy with you and try and take some photos of their reaction if you can" She asked.
"I'll do my best." He promised as he picked up both boys and headed towards the ride with Grace and Emily at his side.
Danni watched with a soft smile as the four of them got on a ride, making sure that they were close to each other. Grace chose one of the pale pink and blue horses while Steve climbed into one of the vehicles, holding both boys in his arms while Emily climbed into the seat beside him, up on her knees looking around her eagerly until Steve said something to her and she scrambled down so she was sitting properly, pressed up against his side just as the ride started.
"So, what's someone like you doing standing here all alone?"
Danni groaned silently at the unfamiliar male voice coming from beside her, instantly recognising it as a pick up line and a bad one at that. She forced a pleasant smile on her face, keeping her eyes focused on her family as they went around the ride, resting her hands on the stroller and the pram before she spoke.
"I'm not here alone, I'm here with my family." She stated, bringing her hand up and waving when she caught sight of Steve and the kids, her smile widening when she saw the way Steve's eyes suddenly narrowed, a look which she could see from where she was, which warned her that she had exactly two minutes left to get rid of the guy who was still lingering around her before Steve did it for her and the last thing she wanted was to cause a scene.
"So" The man said, moving closer to her side, standing close enough to her that she could smell his cologne, she wrinkled her nose at the scent, coughing slightly as she wondered whether the man had bathed in the stuff. "Having a family is always a good thing." He commented taking another step towards her, the action causing her slight amusement at the situation turning into annoyance. "I'm guessing that you have a baby because of the stroller and the pram? If you have a baby then can I just say that you look incredible."
"Look, I'm going to stop you there because you're wasting your time and even worse you're beginning to look like a fool. Yes I have had a baby, in fact I've had two babies, the stroller and the pram are a big giveaway to that fact, on top of that I also have a husband who does not share and who would be extremely happy to deal with you himself . If you don't leave me alone then I'll kick your ass myself and trust me when I say you don't want that." She stated, finally turning to look at him with a glare, aware of the merry go round slowing down. She allowed her eyes to flicker towards the ride just in time for it to come to a stop and to see Steve holding the twins in his arms, climbing down off of it and moving towards them.
"There's no need to be so aggressive, I was just talking to you, you're a beautiful woman who was standing by yourself. You can hardly blame a man for wanting to try his luck with you."
"I may not blame you for trying even though the rings on my finger and the stroller and pram should have been a dead giveaway but I'm pretty sure my husband won't agree and will blame you." She stated turned to Steve as he stopped next to her, quickly placing James and Oliver into the pram before he wrapped his arm around her and pulled her into a kiss which made her toes curl.
"I can't take you out anywhere without you being hit on can I" He murmured against her lips, stealing one more demanding kiss before he pulled back and focused on the man. "Can I help you?" He asked in a cold tone.
"No, no, not at all." The man stated shakily before he turned and swiftly disappeared into the crowd making it clear to her that he had known exactly who Steve was.
"Where are the girls?" Danni demanded, pushing the scene from her mind as she reached into the pram and gently tickled Oliver on his stomach before doing the same to James.
"They wanted to go around the merry go round one more time so Grace moved into the car with Emily and is keeping an eye on them." Steve assured her, nodding towards the car in question where they could see both girls.
"Good I'm glad they are enjoying it, what about the boys, how did they find being on it?" She questioned curiously.
Steve grinned widely at her comment.
"I don't think either of them had a clue what was going on but I've also never seen their eyes get that wide before. They kept trying to look around them, I might be biased but I think our sons are both extremely observant already." Steve told her proudly.
"They certainly are." Danni agreed, her eyes focusing on the merry go around. "You know I think this might be the first time that we've been alone together today unless you count when we were getting dressed today." She stated, looking at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Why I believe you might be right there Mrs McGarrett, at least that is if you can count us standing in the middle of a funfair with all four children as being alone." He remarked, twisting around and pulling her against him as he dropped his head down and kissed her.
"It's about as alone as we ever get during the day time." Danni pointed out as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
"Well that's true, so you think when we get back home you can speak to your twin and see whether he would be willing to look after the kids for a weekend soon, we can make it a weekend when Grace is with her father so he and Erin would only have to look after Emily and the twins." Steve suggested, speaking of Danni's twin brother David and his wife Erin who he had married two years ago.
"We can definitely ask him, if the worse comes to the worse we can always split them up, I know Emmy would love to have a sleepover at Kono's house so we could always ask her, that way David would only have to worry about the twins." She said thoughtfully. "Do you have something in the works already for us?" She asked, sighing when Steve merely winked at her.
"That was a lot of fun, where shall we do next Mamma? I'm thinking we could go on another ride maybe?" Grace commented thoughtfully causing Danni to turn from Steve, a smile coming to her face as Grace and Emily skipped up to them.
"What to do next." She repeated, giving the question some consideration, her heart twisting at the thought that Grace might well consider herself too old to do something like this in the future. "Going on another ride is certainly an option or we could head over to the games section and see what they have over there, If I know Steve's then he's already desperate to win us all something from there." She remarked with a grin at Steve who merely shrugged at the comment making no effort to disagree with Danni's statement.
Grace tilted her head to one side, clearly considering their options before she spoke.
"I think I'd like to go on the Ghost train first because there's not much of a queue for it yet and then maybe once we've done that we could check out the games, I wouldn't mind giving some of them a go." She said with a nod.
"Ooooo the ghost train" Emily said, her eyes widening.
"Ghost train it is then" Steve said, as he began pushing the pram, his arm wrapped around Danni's shoulder as they followed Grace and Emily.
Danni smiled to herself, one thought racing through her mind.
This day was getting better and better with each passing moment.
