Official Disclaimer
The characters of Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett, Lieutenant Chin Ho Kelly, Officer Kono Kalakaua, Agent Jenna O'Connor nee Kaye, Adam 'Toast' Charles, Kamekona and Governor Sam Denning do not belong to me in any fashion. I am merely using them for my own entertainment purposes.
The character of Lieutenant Danielle 'Danni' Williams probably can be considered to be mine by now. Although she was originally based on the male version of Danny, she soon evolved and became her own person. She has her own background, her own family and the history which goes with it, not to mention different character traits. That isn't to say that the Danny Williams we all know and love is completely gone, he still emerges through her at time. I like to think of female Danni as what Danny could have been like if everything in his life had gone his way. As in full custody of Grace and a decent relationship based in friendship with his ex.
The character of Grace has also changed slightly due to this change in Danni's character. Her surname for one is Taylor rather than Williams as this is her father's surname and was Danni's married name (Danni chose to revert back to her maiden name when divorced?. Her parents are also amicable which has also impacted Grace but never fear, she is still the sweetheart we all know and love, if anything she is even more of a character now.
The characters of Lieutenant Colonel David Williams, Supervisory Special Agent in charge Jack O'Connor, Lieutenant Commander Riley King, Lieutenant Louisa Palakiko-Cowan, Emily 'Emmy' McGarrett, James 'Jago' McGarrett, Oliver 'Ollie' McGarrett, Medical Examiner Rosamund 'Ros / Rosie' Lange do all belong to me so please do not use without first asking permission.
Any other character who might pop up who isn't instantly recognisable from the show probably belongs to me as well!
Author Note
Welcome to the Ninth chapter of 'All in a weekend'
So I didn't expect it to take such a long time to update this but then again I also didn't expect to end up doing a massive rewrite of it and changing so much about the original story of the fact that I've done it in four days, clearly when the muse is motivated he is motivated!
If you've read it before then I would really recommend that you start from the beginning and reread it because like I said, it's undergone a massive change!
I'm aiming to finish this so that it can be another one which I can cross off the list as complete and then I can move onto the next one. I am definitely in a 'let's finish some WIP' mood!
There is plenty of fluff and McGarrett family fun is ahead to the point we may drown in it but occasionally a story as fluffy and happy as this one is required!
Anyway, please enjoy.

Chapter Nine
Saturday Late Afternoon / Evening
"They aren't going to let us come back here any time soon, are they Mamma?" Grace asked Danni as they stood side by side, watching as Steve hit bullseye after bullseye on the shooting games while the owner of it, stood off to one side with his mouth wide open.
Danni considered her daughter's question for a moment, her eyes focused on the owner, watching the emotions which were dancing over the older man's face before she looked back towards Grace and shook her head, wrapping her arm around Grace's slim shoulder when they slumped down in response.
"It's unlikely now Gracie." Danni conceded. "But hey, look on the bright side, today is the last day that the fair was open to the public so it doesn't really matter now. We've been on all the rides we wanted to, you got the drawing you wanted from Anastasia painted on your shoulder and Emily got to have her butterfly face. I'd say that all things considered, today has ended up being a pretty successful day for us." She said, watching as Grace considered her points for a moment before she slowly nodded.
"When you put it like that Mamma, we have managed to get quite a lot done." Grace agreed, her face brightening. "Plus we did get to have all of that junk food which we normally never get to have so that was definitely a highlight." She added cheekily, the coming causing Danni to laugh.
"We might have gone slightly overboard when it came to the cotton candy." Danni said, glancing over towards her pram, her eyes focusing on the bags of cotton candy which they had bought and had stuffed in the tray ready for them to eat over the next few days.
"I don't think Emmy was used to it at all." Grace added wryly, the comment causing Danni to smile as she glanced over the top of the stroller to see that Emily was still fast asleep, her hand clutching ad the toy Unicorn which Steve had won for her earlier in the day.
"She's not, and normally I wouldn't have let her have any but as Steve said, the odd day won't hurt her and she only had a few bites of it." Danni said before she turned her attention back to her eldest, her eyes scanning over her face. "What about you though Monkey? Have you had fun here today? She asked, relieved when Grace instantly nodded at her.
"Yeah today has been a lot of fun." The dark haired girl assured her with a wide grin on her face. "It's been a while since we've gone to something like this, I think the last time we went to a fair was the one we went to in New Jersey when we were visiting Nanny and Granddad at Christmas a couple of years ago."
Danni nodded, casting her mind back to the occasion which Grace was talking about when they had flown back to New Jersey in order to spend the Christmas and New Year period with her family so that they could introduce Emily to them, it had been the first time since their wedding that Steve had met her family in person which had been interesting, especially when Danni's father had decided to have the talk with Steve that he didn't get a chance to give him before the wedding day, demanding to know what Steve's intentions towards Danni and his two granddaughters was. The image of Steve, standing to attention in front of her father as though he was in front of his Commanding Officer never failed to make her smile.
It had been extra special as Steve's Aunt and Uncle who had raised him from the age of fifteen and his cousins had arrived on Christmas Eve and had spent the time with them as well. The two families melding well together much to both Steve 's and Danni's relief.
"The fairs they hold in Jersey are always extremely good." Danni said now, dragging her thoughts back to the present, aware that her daughter had been waiting for an answer from her.
"Hopefully we can go to another one this year when we head over there for Christmas again, Dad says that he's flying out with us as well so that he can spend Christmas with me so it should be good. Maybe Emmy will be old enough to try ice skating in the big rink this time as well." Grace remarked thoughtfully.
"We'll have to see about that Grace, she's still small but maybe she could try in the kid's rink instead." Danni replied cautiously before changing the subject. "It will be good fun to have everyone together this year, your Nanny has already put the call out to everyone insisting that we are all there for Christmas this year so I hope you're ready to deal with a crazy household again." Danni said, once again thankful that her relationship with her ex-husband was good enough that they could do something like this where Duncan could come to Christmas dinner and spend time with Grace and be in the same room as Danni and her family without any need to worry about any drama or arguments.
"Mamma, it's always a crazy time when the clan get together, that what makes it so fun when we do get to go back to Jersey, I love Hawaii but I do sometimes miss Jersey as well, I miss being able to see everyone." Grace admitted an almost sad look coming to her face as her dark green eyes flickered away from Danni for a moment.
Danni frowned slightly before she wrapped her arms around her eldest and pulled her into a hug, holding her tightly and hiding a wince when Grace wrapped her own arms around her and hugged back tightly. Sometimes she thought that her daughter didn't realise just how strong she really was.
"What's going on in that big mind of your Gracie? I can't help but feel it's something more then just missing everyone in New Jersey." Danni murmured quietly, smiling when Grace tucked her face into Danni's neck, the same way she had done since she was a child when she was seeking comfort.
Danni's eyes glanced up towards Steve, noticing that he had finished his game and was in the process of picking out a prize, this time no doubt for Oliver since he had already won a toy for everyone else, herself included.
"It's nothing bad Mamma." Grace assured her, her voice sounding slightly muffled before she pulled back so that Danni could see her face again. "I'm just going to miss you at Thanksgiving when you'll be on the mainland with Uncle Steve and his family and I'll be with Dad, here." She said.
Danni nodded, her own heart sinking at the thought that they wouldn't be together for Thanksgiving but she knew that she had to be fair. She had Grace for Christmas and the new year so the least she could do was allow Duncan to have a special occasion with their daughter as well.
"We're going to miss you as well but you're going to have an awesome time with your Dad, plus you'll get to see his side of the family as well which never happens due to most of them normally being in England. I spoke to Auntie Nina last week and she can't wait to see you, plus you'll get to see her new baby and spend time with your Gramps and Grandma. I know you've missed seeing them," Danni said, rubbing her palm up and down Grace's back as she shot her a warm smile.
"I do miss then and it is going to be great to see them all." Grace admitted, reaching up with her hand and tucking some of her dark hair behind her ear from where it had escaped from her ponytail "I just wish that we could have all been together for it, especially as it's the twins first Thanksgiving, I feel a bit like I'm going to miss out." She said as she met Danni's eyes.
"I wish we could have been together as well but Steve's family haven't seen Emily for seven months now and they haven't met the twins in person yet so it's only fair to let them meet their Grandkids and niece and nephew right. As for missing the twins first Thanksgiving, I don't think you'll be missing out on that aspect, they are way too young to know anything about it, as your Uncle Steve says, they will simply eat, sleep and poop so it be just a normal day for them." She said, smiling when Grace laughed at the comment.
"They do poop a lot." Grace agreed, her nose wrinkling up as though she was remembering all the smells which she had witnessed.
"That they do." Danni agreed with a nod. "And don't forget Grace that as soon as school is out for Christmas, you'll be flying over to meet us with your Uncle David and Auntie Erin and Libby and Natalie so you won't be separated from us for long. We'll speak every day on the phone and via Skype and I'm going to be wanting to hear everything that you've been up to."
"That's true." Grace said. "I mean don't get me wrong Mamma, I am really happy that I'm going to be able to spend some time with Dad and the others, like Jennifer and Lydia are my age so it's always cool to be able to hang around with them and there's loads of places which I can take them since they'll already be used to the heat as they live in Florida. Then Aunt Rachel will be there with Charlie though he's still pretty young, like Emmy's age." She remarked thoughtfully, her eyes beginning to sparkle again in excitement as she clearly thought about all the places where she could take their cousins while they were over in Hawaii.
"Exactly and we're having an early thanksgiving as well with the Ohana and your Dad and the members of his family who are already over here as well so in a way you'll get to celebrate it twice this year which will be good. Double the food is never a bad thing." Danni pointed out with a wink at her.
"Grandma is an amazing cook though she's not as good as you are Mamma, maybe just don't mention to her that I said that otherwise she might not make me my favourites this year." Grace said quickly looking briefly horrified at the thought, the comment causing Danni to laugh as she nodded, unable to resist the urge to pull her daughter into another hug.
"Don't worry Monkey, your secret is safe with me, I won't utter a word to anyone." She whispered, kissing Grace on the cheek before she stepped back and looked towards her husband as he joined them, holding a big cuddly red Dragon in his arms which Danni was positive was bigger than both James and Oliver. "I'm not sure how we're going to fit all these cuddly toys you've won into the car when we get back home." She remarked dryly, shaking her head as Steve hunched down beside the pram and tried to stuff the Dragon underneath it. "Hey, hey be careful of the cotton candy, we're planning on eating that later on and would prefer it if it didn't end up on the floor here." She stated, shaking her head when he managed his task and came back up to his feet, brushing his hands together.
"The cotton candy is fine Danni, don't worry." He assured her with a grin. "It looks like we've managed to wear everyone out with this trip." He added as his eyes moved over his three sleeping children.
"It's either that or Emily is in the process of coming down from a sugar high and has crashed from it." Danni corrected with a shake of her head before she looked at them both. "I think we've done everything here that we wanted to do and since it's already four in the afternoon, it might be time for us to head back over to our temporary home for the evening?" She suggested.
"Heading back to the yacht sounds good to me Mamma" Grace said on a yawn which made Danni suspect that her eldest would be having a nap as soon as she was aboard.
"What's our plans for this evening then? Have we got any?" Steve asked her as he moved around to the back of the pram and kicked the brake off.
"I'm thinking of cooking us an early dinner which we can eat around the dinner table together before going into the living area and having a movie night. I noticed when I was looking around the place yesterday that there was a big selection of films which we could pick from, not to mention the fact that we already have the snacks for it. It be for you, me and Gracie since I'm pretty positive that Emmy is going to crash for the evening again as soon as she's eaten some proper food. She's done a lot today, not to mention the small fact that we've allowed her to have something which is pure sugar for the first time."
"And it be for the last time as well, we're not making that mistake again." Steve said sternly as they began walking through the remaining crowd towards the exit. "I've never seen her so hyper before and I don't think that I want to again." He commented, the remarks causing Danni to laugh even as she shook her head.
"She wasn't as bad as all that Steven and honestly I don't mind letting her have the odd day like today where she gets to have a small amount of junk food. It's better that we regulate it for her, instead of banning it completely from her diet so that when she does start having it she won't go crazy for it. That's what I did with Grace and I think it worked out quite well." She said, looking towards her eldest who nodded at her before she looked at Steve.
"Sweets and chocolate are a rare treat which makes it special." Grace told him with a shrug. "Like Mamma gives me a chocolate bar in my lunch box every Friday, sometimes two small ones if I've worked hard in the week so it gives me something to look forward to. Some of my friends have like five bars a day, I don't know how they do it and honestly I'm not really interested in finding out. The odd chocolate bar once a week is cool but I wouldn't want it all the time."
"Exactly, besides healthy food doesn't necessarily means that it going to be boring or bland to taste." Danni stated firmly.
"The fruit salads which Mamma makes from scratch are to die for." Grace piped up again, a wide smile on her face. "I'm not going to lie, my friends are always jealous of my lunches each day. I almost had to stab my friend Tom in the hand with my plastic fork because he kept trying to steal some of my fruit salad. I'll share a lot of things with people but I'm not going to share my lunches with anyone." She said casually, the remark causing Danni to laugh in delight even as Steve pouted at them both.
"Why have I been missing out on these lunches Danni?" He demanded
"That would be because you've never indicated to me that you wanted me to make you a lunch up but if that is what you want then I can easily do that for you Babe, it wouldn't be a problem." Danni told her husband with a smile, her eyes twinkling in amusement as she continued. "I'll even cut the sandwiches into circles and make them into smiley faces for you"
"You do that." Steve countered, his pout turning into a grin almost instantly.
"There's the bus Mamma, we're going to miss it." Grace suddenly shrieked as the bus they needed began to pull up to the stop, forcing them to run for it. They just about made it and were soon at their own stop and making their way back to the waiting yacht.
"Mamma up please."
Danni broke off the conversation which she had been having with Grace to peer over the top of the stroller to see that Emily was now awake, rubbing at her eyes as she looked grumpily around her, clearly trying to get her bearings.
"She's definitely coming off of a sugar high." Danni remarked quietly to Steve before she stopped the stroller and moved around it, leaning down and quickly unstrapping Emily, lifting the small girl into her arms, thankful that her wrist did little more than give a twinge at the extra weight, no doubt another round of ice on it when they arrived back at the yacht followed by a good night sleep would see her right. "Hey my little Butterfly, did you have a good nap?" She crooned as she twisted her head and kissed the side of her youngest daughter's face before she looked at Grace. "Gracie, would you mind pushing the stroller for me while I hold Emmy?" She asked, smiling at the brunette when Grace responded with a nod and moved towards it before Danni turned back to Emily when she spoke.
"Still sleepy Mamma" The small girl whined.
"I bet you are because it's been a long day for us today already so how does this sound, we're heading back to the yacht now so when we're there I'll cook us all some dinner and then I'll give you a bath so you're all nice and clean and then if you're still awake I'll read you a chapter of the book that we're currently reading and then you can go to sleep, how does that sound? Does it sound good to you?" She asked, gently bouncing Emily up and down in her arms.
"James and the giant peach?" Emily queried as she leaned back so she could look at Danni who responded with a nod at her.
"James and the giant peach." Danni confirmed, glancing up in time to see that they were at the yacht. Her eyes drifted to the side of her, noticing an old man who looked as though he was in his seventies who was watching their approach but she paid him little mind, especially when Steve lifted a hand up and waved at him. This was no doubt the old man who Steve had mentioned that he had spoken to earlier that morning. She climbed up, heading quickly down into the main part of the boat and into the bathroom with Emily still in her arms and lowered her to the floor. "Toilet time for you Butterfly, it's been a while since you last went." She said firmly, relieved when Emily merely nodded and headed straight over to the bright pink potty which they had for her.
Danni waited, adverting her eyes to give her daughter some privacy, knowing through past experience that Emily hated to feel as though anyone was watching her and would refuse to go if she felt someone was.
"Finished Mamma" Emily called out, attracting Danni's attention.
"Good job Emmy" Danni said, quickly cleaning her up and disposing of the evidence before she helped the small girl wash her hands. "Right, now it's time for dinner but what exactly should we have?" She remarked as she held the door open for her daughter, allowing the small girl to run ahead of her towards the kitchen area. She followed Emily into the room, unsurprised to find that they were the only two in there.
"Mac and cheese please." Emily cried, clapping her hands together, her face dropping when Danni shook her head at her with a fond look.
"I know that you love Mac and cheese Emmy but you had it yesterday at the diner and you're not having it two days in a row." She stated, moving over to the fridge and opening it, giving the contents within a critical look before she tried the cupboards, thankful to see that someone had made sure that they were stocked with things she might need. "How about we have some meatballs and I'll slice up some cucumbers for you to have with it, does that sound good?" She asked, grinning when Emily immediately nodded at her, a happy look on her face making it clear that she approved of Danni's menu choice.
"I'm taking from the look on Emily's face that you've decided what you're cooking tonight?" Steve asked as he walked into the room, the baby monitor from the boys room in hand which he set up on the counter top, his eyes fixed on Danni as he waited for an answer.
"You, Gracie and I are going to have pasta and homemade meatballs and Emmy is going to have a couple of meatballs as well but she's having hers with some chopped up cucumber." Danni told him in a brisk tone. "But I'm going to need everyone's help with it so Emmy could you go and find Gracie for me and bring her back here so we can begin?" She asked, looking down at Emily.
"Yes Mamma" She said, running from the room as fast as her small legs could carry her.
"We're all helping you?" Steve asked, moving up to her and wrapping his arms around her waist. "Who are you and what have you done with my wife because my Danno is normally the first person to kick me out of the kitchen if I even suggest doing more then chopping things up for you." He commented, dipping his head down and placing a soft kiss on her neck, the touch making her shiver.
"It's more that I need you here with me to keep an eye on Emily as we work. She's three now so I'm keen to get her involved in the sort of things which Grace and I do together. She can help me roll up the meat into little balls but having you there would help." Danni responded as she twisted around in his arms and went up on her tiptoes, placing a kiss on his lips and smiling when she tasted cotton candy. "Looks like someone has been helping himself to our movie snacks ahead of time." She remarked mildly, making a tutting noise at the guilty expression which briefly crossed his face before she turned and looked towards the door just as Grace entered with Emily right behind her.
"Hey Mamma, Emmy says that we're all cooking together tonight?" Grace asked, her eyes brightening when Danni nodded at her and waved her hand towards the empty counter tops.
"That we are, meatballs and pasta for the older lot and meatballs and cucumber for the little one." She said, smiling at Emily before she clapped her hands together. "Right, let's get going then, Gracie, get me the mincemeat out of the fridge please. Steve could you get everything we need for cooking including a knife for the cucumber, Emmy could you get the cucumber out from the lower shelf and pass it to Daddy please?" She instructed, waiting until they nodded at her, Grace and Emily with focused looks while Steve merely looked amused by the whole situation. Danni ignored him, turning and gathering the onions together which she placed on the cutting board which Steve had just placed down. "Cut those up for me please beloved and try not to cry." She teased with a wink before she set her shoulders and begun working.
It didn't take long to do, Grace helping her make the mixture up before Emily helped her roll them up into small balls, clearly thrilled at being allowed to help with the cooking for once while Steve took care of everything which needed chopping and doing the washing up as they went, his eyes rarely leaving his young daughter, making sure that she stayed out of the way of anything even remotely dangerous to her. Danni noticed the soft look on his face and smiled, making sure to duck her head down so that he didn't see her. She was well aware of what family moments like the one they were experiencing meant to Steve since they had been lacking from his own early childhood.
Soon enough everything was ready and they were at the table, eating and talking about the next day when Grace and Steve would put their own plan for the day into action making her wonder what it was though she pushed down on her curiosity knowing that she would soon find out.
"Danni" Steve murmured suddenly, interrupting Grace's talk about a test she had the following week at school and attracting Danni's attention to him with a curious look when he nodded towards Emily. Danni glanced over at Emily, her heat skipping a beat when she saw that Emily's head was falling lower and lower towards the table before she jerked it back up again only to start the process mere seconds later as she clearly fought against her need to sleep.
"Bless her" She murmured with a shake of her head. "I'll go and take her to have her bath and then I'll put her to bed. Would you both mind clearing up in here and picking out the film you want us to watch? I won't be long, somehow I can't see us reading a chapter of James and the giant peach tonight." She said softly as she came up to her feet and moved over to Emily, picking the small girl up and cuddling her close to her.
"Leave everything to us Danni" Steve told her with a nod. "I'll join you in her room shortly to say goodnight to her."
"Sounds good to me." She said before she left the room and headed towards the bathroom, her mind already working through the evening schedule in her mind. By the time she finished giving Emily a bath and putting her to bed then it should be about time for the boys to have their evening feed, she would have to bathe them as well before placing them back into their Moses baskets, only after that was done would she able to sit down with Steve and Grace to watch the movie which they picked out.
She smiled even as she shook her head and pushed the bathroom door open, stepping into it and turned on the light, kissing Emily on the head when the small girl stirred in her arms at the suddenly light.
Even Danni's vacation was turning out to be tiring.
Pushing the thought away, Danni adjusted Emily and turned on the taps, humming to the small girl and smiling when she responded by snuggling closer to Danni and yawning.
"Tired Mamma" Emily murmured as she rubbed at her eyes in an exhausted fashion.
"I know that you are Butterfly but you just need to stay awake for a little longer so you can have your bath and be nice and clean and then it will be straight off to bed with you." She promised as she placed Emily onto the floor and quickly stripped her of her clothes before lifting her back up and placing her in the bath. She had just finished and put Emily into her pyjamas when there was a knock on the door before it opened revealing Steve.
"Hey, I thought I'd come and see how things you're going but it looks like you're all done now," He remarked, his eyes moving over them both as he stepped into the room and picked Emily up, resting her against his side with a kiss on her head.
"Yep, we're all done including Emily brushing her teeth like a good girl but now it's definitely time for bed." Danni commented with a smile at Emily who nodded tiredly.
"I bet that bed sounds real good right about now, right little one?" Steve said as he turned and carried Emily out of the room. Danni lingered for a moment as she gathered Emily's discarded clothes together and followed them from the room, glancing over her shoulder towards where the kitchen was, picking up on the sound of music coming from the radio which meant that Grace was no doubt still in there, finishing her task of drying the dishes up and placing them away in the proper place. Danni looked back and entered the bedroom in time to see Steve tuck Emily into her bed before he leaned down and kissed her on the forehead. "Night, night Emily, sleep well my love." He murmured.
Danni took a moment to drop the clothes she was holding into the small bag which they were currently using as a hamper and stepped up to the bed, leaning down and kissing Emily on the cheek.
"Night, night my little Butterfly, sweet dreams, Mamma loves you to the edges of the universe and beyond." She said softly, smiling when Emily's eyes instantly slid closed. Danni stood watching her for a moment before she looked at Steve and lifted her hand up, indicating for him to follow her from the room. She moved to one side once she was out in the main hallway, her head tilted towards Steve as he quietly closed the door behind them before she spoke up. "I'm going to go and feed the boys now and give them a bath then I'll join you for the movie, it shouldn't take too long, maybe about forty five minutes for them both." She told him, smiling at him when he nodded at her.
"I'll come with you and give you a hand." He told her as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder, pulling her close to him as he led her down the hallway towards their bedroom. "Once you've finished feeding them then you can go and hang out with Grace for a while in the living room while I bathe the boys and put them down for the night. Don't think Danni that I haven't noticed that you didn't wake me up last night to take my turn with them. We're on vacation right now remember? I can help you with them during the night, it's not like I have work the next day." He told her firmly as he pushed open the twin door and stepped into the room.
"I might have forgotten that" She admitted with a shrug.
"Well start remembering it Danni because you and I are on this journey together and I know that you think that you're superwoman and most of the time I agree with that but even you struggle looking after a daughter who just turned three and two six week old babies. Anyone who was in your situation would struggle. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you can rely on me Danni and ask me for help, you don't have to be a superwoman to me, you're perfect as you are." He stated softly, meeting her eyes directly before he looked away from her towards the Moses baskets.
"I'm sorry Steve." She said, reaching out to him and placing her hand on his forearm, a smile coming to her face when he looked back at her. "I'll try and remember that we're as much a team in this as we are in everything else."
"Damn right we are Danni." Steve replied, leaning down and kissing her on the mouth before he pulled back and grinned at her. "Let's get this done so we can watch that movie because I think you're going to love the one which Grace and I picked out for us tonight." He stated, the comment causing her to laugh
"Okay" She agreed, her eyes drifting over to the twins. "Let's get this done."
