Hey there everyone,

Here is the next chapter. Tried to get it finished over the weekend however I had a final to study for so I concentrated a bit more on that. Hopefully I can get more pumped out while I am on break. Please enjoy and please let me know what you think. Thank you to those who have left reviews. I appreciate it as I am always aiming to improve.

"What are you doing here?" was all he could get out. He couldn't believe his eyes. It had been almost a year that he had really heard from her, if you could even count the last email, she sent about her grades being great. The last he knew, she was still in LA, babysitting kids. Yet here she stood, in scrubs and a name tag with the letter's RN after her name.

"Freddiekins, who is it, honey?" his mom called from the kitchen.

"Umm," he said, not able to form the right words.

"Marissa, it's me," Sam called, pushing past Freddie, "you were in such a rush, you took off without your stethoscope. I picked it up before one of the doctors did and you never saw it again."

"Oh, thank goodness, Samantha, I don't know what I would do without you," his mom said, rushing out the kitchen to collect her stethoscope. Freddie was completely confused at this point now. Not only was Sam here, but she was working with his mother, and his mother was ok with it. Thrilled by the sound of it. He closed the door and turned around to watch the exchange.

"Any issues? Were you able to give report ok?" his mom asked.

"Yeah, none at all. We were able to discharge bed 12 before night shift got there and everything. All the labs came back normal and he just got a referral to see a cardiologist," Sam told her. Freddie's mind was blown. Who was this girl? If Sam were witnessing this conversation a few years prior, she would have thought they were speaking in a foreign language.

"Oh, thank goodness. You are just fantastic, Samantha. You blow my mind every shift," Freddie's mom said. He couldn't take it anymore.

"Any one care to tell me what the hell is going on here?" he interrupted.

The scene in front of him just didn't make sense. Sam hated his mom. And his mom hated Sam. Yet here they are, having a conversation like two normal people, almost as if they were friends.

"Well, umm, surprise, Honey! The trainee I was telling you about, well it's Samantha!" his mom said, nervously. Sam's face fell a bit.

"I didn't realize you didn't tell him," Sam said, shuffling her feet a bit, "I would have made sure it was alright to stop by first."

"It's ok Hun, why don't you go ahead and go home and get some rest. It was a long 12 hours" Freddie's mom said, "here, take a plate with you. One for Spencer too,"

"For Spencer too?" Freddie asked even more confused.

"Yeah, I um, moved in with Spencer a few months ago. I didn't want to stay with my mom any longer and well, he needed help around the house," Sam explained.

Freddie's mom quickly made Sam a plate and handed it to her. Sam silently thanked her and walked towards the door of the apartment.

"It's good to see you, Freddie," Sam smiled at him and walked out the door. Freddie stared at his mom for a moment in complete disbelief.

"You didn't think you should tell me that Sam was back in Seattle, let alone that you were working with her!" Freddie said, his voice raising a bit.

"Sweetheart," his mom started quickly, "when I found out I would be training her I was furious. I tried to get out of it and everything. But she was a last-minute addition to the program, and we didn't have enough preceptors." His mom started. Freddie could see she was very nervous. "Plus, I knew that you guys had basically stopped talking, and I knew that hurt you, and I,"

"What's your point, Mom, you still should have told me!" Freddie yelled, getting increasingly angry. How could she think this was ok to keep from him? "You don't think maybe I would have reconsidered moving back home if I knew she was here!"

"That's why, Freddie! I just didn't want to chance you changing your mind about coming home! I have just missed you so much," she cried, guilt layered heavy in her voice.

"I can't believe you, Mom. You couldn't even let me make my own decision."

"You don't understand, it's just been so lonely here without you," she sobbed, grabbing her son's hands. Freddie pulled his hands out of his moms grasp and stepped back.

"I'm sure it was until you started working with your new best friend."

He turned around and grabbed his suitcases that were still sitting in the hall.

"Oh Sweetheart, please, don't leave!" she cried dropping to her knees.

"I'm not going anywhere," he turned and told her, "I'm just, I'm going to bed. It's not like I have anywhere to go, anyways."

He carried his suitcases towards his room, walked in, shut the door behind him and sighed. Every fiber of his being wanted him to stay mad at his mom. But could he really expect anything different from this woman. It wasn't like this was abnormal behavior for her. It hurt her so much when he decided to go to his dream school all the way across the county instead of going to school locally. Yet, she still allowed him to go. She still helped him pay for it. And amazingly enough, she mostly stayed out of his business while he was there. He could forgive her for wanting to make sure he still wanted to come home. So, he cracked the door open a tad.

"Plus, I can't go anywhere, Mom. I have a tour for my new job tomorrow."

And with that, he closed the door and began to get himself reacquainted with home.
