Chapter Seven
AN: I've been gone for quite a while now, and for that, I apologize. I've lost my passion for writing, and I hate that. I hope those were with me since the beginning, are still there. Enjoy.
D: Disclaimed
I officially hated my existence. I can't say life because that doesn't belong to me. It belongs to the vampire sitting across from me -the one who thought it would be a great idea to place me with the one being that wanted to be my next master.
I didn't have a choice -didn't think I ever did, but I'd like one -one day.
Just when I thought I could understand Sir Edward's nature, he decides to surprise me with a plot twist. If only I were the protagonist of this story, but I'm far from it.
The rest of our journey home was silent. Brady continued to wither, and Collin stared blankly. Sir Edward sipped his Gin & Tonic and focused on whatever he saw outside the limousine window. It made me curious about how the acholic beverage tasted to the man; I wasn't sure if he could taste it, or if it affected him.
I loathe my simple rambles.
As we arrived at the manor, one of the guards opened the door and escorted Sir Edward to the entrance while the three of us followed. The RV trailer had moved passed us into the garage and down to the cells below.
"Gather Seth's belongings and escort him to the cells below." Sir Edward ordered the guard Felix, "make sure he's comfortable. I want him next to Jacob's cell, still with no threats upon him."
Felix nodded; I almost choked on his words.
Safe? How could I be safe next to the monster who thinks I belong to him? The thought was cruel. The obligation made no sense.
I followed Felix in silence. Brady and Collin watched as two other guards gathered what belongings I had -which wasn't much, and led me to the elevator once again.
There were so many things going through my head now, and I couldn't seem to clear them. I didn't think that my day would end like this.
He still stared at me. I sat still, and he stared.
Everything now seemed so out of place now. I hated this place even more. I wanted to go back to Sir Carlisle and Madame Esme's, the only place I could call home. The only place that felt like home
I was sure Jacob said something. I'm sure he said a lot, but that didn't mean that I listened. I was too confused and upset to hear anything. Or even gather anything told to me. I was in a different dimension -mentally. I could only wish that it was physical too.
I could be anywhere, but here.
Then I thought about my fate. For some reason, it was attached to Jacob's somehow, and no matter what happened to him, it seemed to be my future. Being connected to Jacob felt so right, though. But why?
The man is definitely a monster.
Sir Edward attended the trial, and all practices or training were kept a halt until the hearing can be concluded. Until then, all of us were kept in our cells with our food served to us in our confinement. This meant that Brady and Collin would be serving me this time, and I knew it was a bad idea, to begin with.
Brady refused to acknowledge me now and refused to even look at Jacob or me. He threw my food at me the first time and was punished for it, just not in a way he had hoped. Felix lashed him with a leather-rope strap across the back.
Sir Edward deemed him a distraction, almost an inconvenience if he hadn't known how to do his job. He would no longer be sent to the cells next to the other wolves, and he hated it. No one was happy—all except Jacob.
I was still in the cell next to him.
"Madame!" We could hear Sam's deep voice, "you can't be down here."
"I have no time for this, Samuel!" I recognized that voice. "I'm here to see him, let me through."
"But Madame," Sam spoke again, "it is under Sir Edward's strict orders that no one enters the chambers, not even Madame Bella."
"Samuel Uley!" It was Madame Esme, her voice stern and asserting, "either you let me in, or both you and Edward shall catch my wrath. I'm already upset, do not test my patience."
"Esme, dear. Samuel is only doing as he told." That was Sir Carlisle.
I hadn't been this excited in a while.
"Carlisle!" She seemed very upset now. "I'm a mother, scorned. Seth may not be my son, but I guarantee that I will see to those involved will pay if any harm comes to his existence."
"Let her in Sam," Sir Carlisle spoke, "I'll deal with Edward when he returns."
Without question, I could hear the massive gates slide and the click of Madame Esme's heels against the rock floor as she came into sight in a hurry. Felix was with her while he unlocked the gates.
"Oh, Seth!" Madame Esme raced in and pulled me in for a hug. "How could Edward do this to you? I told him to take care of you."
"I'm fine, Madame." I sighed in relief as I hugged her back.
"DON'T TOUCH HIM!"
Out of instinct, I pulled Esme closer to me to protect her. But she pulled me behind her without hesitation.
"EXCUSE ME!" She shouted back, "WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?"
"I'M HIS ALPHA!" Jacob gripped the bars, practically bending them.
"JACOB!" Sam stood in front of us now. "STAND DOWN!"
"SHE'S TOUCHING WHAT'S MINE!"
"Get them out of here!" Sam ordered Felix.
Everything happened so fast before I knew it, Felix was dragging me to the exit and down the hall to the elevator. I could hear Jacob's enraged roars, and a few other upset wolves howl.
"I should go back!" I muttered. However, I wasn't sure why I should.
"Never," Esme added, Carlisle wrapped his arms around the both of us.
"Why would you?" Felix asked. I shrugged.
We could still hear the roars as we raced down the hallway. Just then, Sir Edward came rushing in, enraged as he flew passed us and out of sight. I was sure then that I would be in serious trouble from the outcome-whatever that may be.
"Felix!" Esme spoke as she practically shoved me ahead of her. "I want to know exactly what is going on!"
They saw the news. I didn't know that the incident was all over it. I didn't think it was as big of a deal as everyone played it out to be. But, when an alpha claims a runt as his mate, it doesn't sit right with society. I'm not supposed to be on anyone's radar. Runts are meant only to exist; I'm finding that out day by day.
The chaos is why Sir Carlisle and Madame Esme decided to visit us. That, and the fact that Edward had already broken his promise by using me a tool in his games.
Then they began to speak of a prophecy when Sir Edward returned.
"It's a tall tale." Sir Edward interrupted. "And if he's the key to all of this, we are obligated to hand him over to the Government."
"You will do no such thing." Esme interrupted.
"Then we can't be saying things like this." Sir Carlisle spoke.
"Father is right, mother," Edward added. "Right now, Seth's existence is already being questioned."
"What do you mean?"
"The trial is unsure of his ancestry," Edward explained. "The council is investigating his owner-ship papers and the camp we claim to have purchased him from."
"What happens if they discover the truth?" Esme asked.
"He becomes apprehended and disposed of." Sir Carlisle spoke, "and we face the consequences for harboring a stray."
"But I bought us some time." Sir Edward added, "the papers have been forged, and it states that we purchased him as a pup from the 'Ahbornaught Camp' up North."
"But that camp has been shut down due to the tax-fraud. They were overcharging and claiming the given amounts." Felix finally said something.
"Exactly, Felix." Sir Edward spoke, "the council will find it challenging when most of the files have been destroyed when the warden ignited the camp right after."
"Well, if the files have been destroyed, they can't take me, right?" I asked.
"Not exactly." Sir Carlisle said, "if they can't find any papers of your existence, they can overwrite the deed to you and order Edward to hand you over."
"But will they?"
"They could," Sir Edward replied, "but the only one who can save you for the moment is Jacob."
"Jacob?"
I was speechless. My future was in the hands of the man I loathed the most.
"But how?"
"Well..." Sir Edward paused. "If Jacob interferes, there is no saying if war might ignite. Jacob is strong, but so is his pack. If the Council were to challenge Jacob and his pack, the outcome could be gruesome."
"So that Alpha downstairs has staked his claim on Seth?" Madame Esme muttered. "This can't be his only hope."
"We don't want it to be." Sir Edward said, "but if the Council feels threatened, they could already be building armies."
"They already are." The door opened.
"Alice?" Madame Esme said, surprised.
"Aro has advised the Council to do so." The woman explained while a man followed. "They already know that I can see them. They're not hiding the fact -they want them to run."
"Run?" I questioned.
"To challenge the hunt." She stated, "they'll eventually put out a bounty for Seth."
"And you've seen this?" Sir Edward asked. She nodded. "So, they were planning to come after us all along."
"But you said it yourself, Sir Edward." I added, "Jacob and the pack will fight, what if the other packs fought?"
"Are you suggesting a fight?" Madame Esme added.
"No, but I don't want to run." I whimpered, "I'd rather die than end of in their hands."
"He's right." The man spoke.
"What do you mean, Jasper?" Madame Esme asked.
"They'd experiment on him, and possibly torture him to maintain order with the wolves," Jasper explained. "If Seth is a threat, they'd see to it that no other ever questions their power."
"So, what do we do now?" I asked, "we can't tell Jacob."
"We may already have that problem." Felix interrupted before pushing us forward and to the exit. "Sam has just informed me that Jacob has escaped."
"ASSEMBLE THE REST OF THE GUARDS!" Sir Edward headed in the opposite direction with one of the other guards, "gather the runts and lead them to safety."
I panicked. My breaths were heavy. It felt wrong, and I couldn't understand why. I didn't want to believe the obvious, but it may just be because of the Alpha going ballistic below us.
"We're putting ourselves in danger, Esme!" Jasper said as we entered the massive vehicle parked outside. "If we remove Seth from the premises, the Alpha can cause more harm than the Council could ever. We need to think this over."
"I can't just leave him here," Esme said worriedly. The bulky doors closed, and it felt like we were in a tank of some sort.
"This is because of him!" Brady seethed.
"Shut it, Brady!" Collin infuriated, "no matter what has happened, Brady is one of us!"
"I..."
Before I could defend myself, it felt like a bulldozer hit the vehicle's side, pushing us off the road. I could see the figures outside; we could hear the shouting and feel another slam against the shielded vehicle. Everyone was worried, and I was scared for my life.
"OPEN THE DOOR!" I shouted.
"Are you crazy, Seth?" Sir Carlisle said.
"I HAVE STRICT ORDERS NOT TO!" The driver shouted back.
"WE'LL ALL BE KILLED IF YOU DON'T!"
I shoved my way through the others and yanked on the latch to realize that it was locked from the outside. But I kept pushing, only to fall back as the vehicle turned on its side. We tumbled, and my head slammed against the side.
The door bent out of place, and everyone was scattered in the pit of the vehicle. But no one was harmed, but what seemed to only me and the other two wolves. I whimpered, realizing that blood was trickling down my face. But that didn't stop me from taking action and kicking the door again until it came off.
"SETH! NO!" Madame Esme pulled me back.
"I HAVE TO." I yanked my arm away and crawled out of the vehicle that was now upside down.
I crawled out and whimpered, holding my side before standing up. I then staggered across the lot to see the wolves ready to tackle the vehicle again. They were reckless.
All I could see was Sir Edward fighting some of the wolves off and Sam and Felix and a few of the other guards. I wasn't sure what I was doing, but I knew I needed to act quickly.
"Jacob!" I cried out, holding my side still. "Please! Please stop!"
There the wolf stood, furious and angered at the sight of me. I was hoping for a different reaction, that was until his expression changed. He whimpered now. He trotted towards me and whimpered. I stood cautiously as he approached me as this massive wolf. I almost began to back away in fear, but something deep down told me that I could trust him, at least I had hoped I could.
Jacob now stood before me; his large head leaned down and nudged my cheek before giving it a lick. I wasn't sure what he was doing until I realized that he was cleaning the blood off my face. I place my hand on his muzzle -probably looking tiny compared to him- and ran my fingers through his grungy fur.
"Please stop," I mumbled. "They're only protecting me."
Everyone watched in awe. I did this out of instinct. A part of me knew that I had to do the right thing, and this was it. So I leaned in and held onto him as he continued to whimper.
At this moment, this is the calmest I've ever seen the wolf; any wolf for that matter. I always have known him as this monster that was fit to haunt your nightmares. But now, he was a gentle giant. I couldn't understand how or why he changed at this moment.
"Eccentric." A voice spoke through the silence.
"Jane?!" Sir Edward said in fear.
"In all this morale, I still find these dogs to be animals." The petite blonde woman spoke with two men at her sides. "which is why we've come to take duties into resolve."
"Why are you here?" Sir Edward asked.
"To dispose of the problem." She stated casually.
"You ca..." before Sir Edward could finish his sentence, he collapsed to his knees and screamed in pain.
"Oh, but I can." She smirked, then looked at Jacob and me. "It's a shame that you will never see the light of tomorrow."
Jacob snarled and stood in front of me; the other wolves began to surround me. She glared at Jacob, only causing the wolf to flinch before what it seemed to be him shaking it off. This infuriated the vampire as she tried again, only to end up disappointed.
"Get rid of them!" Jane seethed. "All of them."
In that second, the two vampires next to her disappeared in a blur and came for us. I backed away to watch the wolves be tossed aside and attacked so swiftly.
Jacob bolted forward towards the petite woman that stood still. She dodged Jacob's tackle and swung her arm back to land a blow to Jacob's side. Chaos broke loose, and I didn't know what I should be doing.
Jacob was fighting Jane; the other two vampires were a little faster than we all expected. I was now next to Brady and Collin, while a circle was formed around us again.
"We have to do something." I panicked, watching the fight play out in front of us.
"You're fucking stupid if you think I'm getting in there!" Brady mumbled, more scared than I had ever seen him.
"Coward!" Collin shouted as he pulled his shirt off and began running towards Sam and the others, phasing into his wolf and roaring into chaos.
I followed suit and pulled my shirt over my head and ran towards Jacob. He'd probably hate me more for doing this, but if I was a part of his pack now, I had to help. I phased into my wolf and raced towards the vampire and tackled her from the side.
She flew against the brick wall where Jacob lay. I was already next to her without much thought, clasping my fangs on her shoulder and yanking her from side to side. I then lifted her back and up and did what I saw the other wolves do before and slammed her against the ground.
I wasn't expecting what happened next, though.
Jacob tackled me. He shoved me to the side.
Then he finished her.
Jacob tore the vampire into pieces, allowing the others to finish off the others. I watched in confusion. I knew Jacob would be pissed, but I was sure that I saved his life.
Now he hated me?
