Nora had been off of work for four months before returning to work. It was absolute chaos with six children under the age of four, but she wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
"Hey Nora, welcome back honey," Sam yelled as Nora entered the bar.
"Thank you, Sam," Nora smiled as she put her things under the bar and put her apron on.
"Evening everybody," Norm yelled as he entered.
"Norm!" the bar yelled.
"Beer Norm?" Sam asked.
"Stop asking, start pouring," Norm said as he took his seat. "Hey Nora, how's casa de Crane?"
"You remember The Brady Bunch?"
"Yeah"
"Drop the ages to three, two, and four months. Then add cocaine and that's casa de Crane."
"Carla has not been a good influence on you," Norm said.
"Says the man who won a bet about when I would get pregnant next," Nora smiled as she walked away to start work. Nora decided to try three days a week again. She and Frasier had Daphne and a nanny to help watch their children while they were at work.
Sam dropped Nora off at home after work, "hi darling," Frasier greeted his wife.
"What are you doing up? It's three in the morning," Nora said softly as she kissed her husband.
"I set my alarm so that I could greet my wife after her first day back at work."
"I don't know what I did to deserve you."
"How was your day?" Frasier and Nora put an arm around each other as they climbed the stairs.
"It was good. I missed the kids, but it also felt good to go somewhere on my own."
Frasier held the bedroom door for his wife, "are you off tomorrow?"
"From the bar, not mom duty," the woman smiled.
"I'll be here until it's time for my show," Frasier did his show from home now.
"I'm going to take a shower real quick."
"Not a hot bath?"
"I'll probably fall asleep."
"Well, I insist you take one in the morning."
"How do you suppose I accomplish that?"
"I am a master at distracting children."
"Just talk psychology and they'll fall asleep," Nora laughed.
"Oh, you think you're funny don't you?" Frasier teased.
"I know I am," Nora said before disappearing into the bathroom. Frasier was still awake when Nora finished her shower. Nora crawled into bed and into Frasier's arms before falling asleep.
Nora nursed her daughters the next morning before Frasier took the children so that Nora could have a bath. Nora was exhausted and realized she may not be able to work after all. Frasier went to check on Nora after an hour and a half. He found his wife asleep in the tub. He has no idea how she didn't slip under the water.
"Darling," Frasier whispered as he rubbed a finger up and down his wife's arm. "Nora, wake up sweetheart."
Nora's eyes fluttered open, "huh?"
"Hey, sleepyhead. You fell asleep in the bathtub."
Nora put a hand to her forehead and groaned, "I can't believe I did that. How did I not drown? I better get out." Frasier let the water out while Nora stood. She was still sleepy so Frasier helped his wife out of the tub.
"Why don't you rest today?"
"No, I can't do that."
"I asked Niles to do my show for me, so yes you can."
"Thank you," Nora began to tear up, "I love you."
Frasier took his wife into his arms, "would you like me to call Sam?"
"Please," Nora whispered.
"Sure thing, now let's get you back into bed." Frasier tucked his wife into bed and went to call Sam.
"Hey, Frasier, what's up?" Sam answered his phone.
"Listen, I'm not sure Nora can work right now. She's absolutely exhausted and fell asleep in the tub."
"Oh, man! Listen tell her to stay home if she needs to. If she wants to talk about working tell her to let me know when she's feeling more up to it."
"Thanks, Sam"
"Hey, no problem."
Nora slept quite late that day with Frasier, Daphne, Frederick, and Martin helping with the children. Frasier knew Nora would be exhausted, but not like this. He hoped that his wife would eventually be able to go back to work because he knew how much she enjoyed going there. She even liked the actual working part, and serving is not an easy job. Frasier would take the girls up to be nursed whenever it was time, but other than that everyone pretty much let Nora rest.
"Darling, how are you feeling?" Frasier asked as he climbed into bed.
"A bit more relaxed. I should be fine tomorrow. Did you talk to Sam?"
"Oh, yes, sorry I did after I got you out of the tub and forgot. He said to take your time. If you want to come back you can and if not that was okay too. He said if you decided to try working again just call and he'll try to help you figure something out."
"Thank you, darling. Sam really is the big brother I never had. He's just been so great to me since we moved here."
"I'm glad, now it's time for all mothers to get their rest. I have bottles that you pumped, so I will take care of the feedings in the middle of the night unless you want to."
"Let's see if I wake up," Nora chuckled as she fell asleep in her husband's arms.
Nora ended up sleeping through the night and was up for breakfast the next morning. She nursed her girls in bed like she did every morning. Then she went downstairs for breakfast and got ready for her day. Frasier had given the nanny the week off with pay. Both he and Nora insisted since it was so last minute. Nora found herself in a familiar routine with her children. It was hard work being a mom, but she loved every second of it.
After another month, the triplets were sleeping through the night. Nora called Sam and told him that she would like to work the three days they had talked about. Sam told her whatever she wanted was fine. Nora and Frasier were able to get their nanny to come back, and Nora went back to work. After the first week, Nora was a bit tired, but not too tired. She decided to work two or three days a week as long as her children were so young. Meanwhile, Daphne and Niles added a baby girl named Margaret, to their family.
Both Crane families felt that their families were complete. Daphne and Niles had David, Alexander, and Margaret. Frasier and Nora had Frederick, Tony, Charlie, Henry, Savannah, Ella, and Lenora.
"You know, I never thought the two of you would give me all of these grandchildren. I also didn't think your wives would be so wonderful and beautiful," Martin told his sons.
"Gee, thanks dad," Frasier said sarcastically.
"Hey, Dad, Niles," Nora said as she entered the kitchen.
"Hey, your hair looks nice," Martin said to his daughter. "That's a good color on you."
"Thanks, Dad," Nora smiled. Her hair was a light honey blonde color.
"Yes, darling that is a beautiful color. When did you have that done?" Frasier asked his wife.
Nora turned to look at her husband with a slight smile, "three days ago."
"It's been nice knowing ya son," Martin said as he got up and left.
"Good luck Frasier," Niles said as he ran out of the house.
"Well, I'm going to be late for work," Nora said and began walking towards the door.
"Wait, yell at me, give me hell," Frasier said as he went after his wife.
Nora turned around and kissed her husband, "I'll see you when I get home. I love you." With that Nora left the house and a stunned Frasier.
"You just left him like that," Carla busted up laughing.
"It's driving him nuts," Nora laughed.
"I can't believe that he didn't notice you lighten your hair and you're even giving it more volume."
"I even shook my hair in his face." Carla, Rebecca, and Nora broke up laughing.
That night when Nora returned home, Frasier was waiting on the stairs for her.
"Darling, it's late. What are you doing up?"
"I need you to yell at me. I can't sleep without you yelling at me," Frasier said exhausted.
Nora giggled, "oh, honey," Nora walked over and knelt in front of her husband, "I wasn't angry. I just decided to see what it would take and how long, for you to notice. I really wasn't mad, but I did decide to have a little fun with you. I'm sorry," Nora kissed her husband.
Frasier started laughing, "I can't believe that I fell for that. You were quite convincing. Don't be sorry, I mean I kind of started this by not noticing. By the way, you are beautiful no matter what your hair looks like."
"Thank you," Nora kissed Frasier, "now let's get you to bed before you fall asleep on the stairs."
