Diane and Sam had two sons ages four and three. Their youngest was born two months before Nora and Frasier moved to Boston. Their eldest son was Ernie, after the coach, and then their three-year-old was named Thomas. Diane barged into the bar one day furious, "Samuel Malone you have some explaining to do."
Everyone stared and 'ooo-ed', "I'm gonna need a little hint here," Sam said.
"I'm pregnant!"
"Uh-oh, Sammy's in trouble now," Norm said.
"Why?" Nora asked.
"You told me you had a vasectomy," Diane yelled.
"Never mind," Nora said.
"Well, I wanted you to be happy."
"Then why didn't you get a vasectomy?"
"Because I didn't want to. Look," Sam hopped over the bar, "I know we didn't plan on more kids, but I think this is a good thing."
"Easy for you to say, your job is done."
"I'll get a vasectomy. You can make and take me to the appointment to make sure I do. I don't think you were entirely sure about that anyway. Now that I've seen Nora and Frasier with their zoo, I feel anything is possible."
"Dear God if I have triplets I may divorce you and give you sole custody." Diane saw the disappointment in Sam's eyes, "I'm sorry. I'm just in shock and I got a little out of hand."
"We good?"
"Yeah, and who knows maybe this time we'll get a little girl."
"Why do you want me to have a stroke?"
Sam and Diane did end up having not one but two little girls. Sam had a vasectomy the day after Diane gave birth. They decided two of each was enough and neither wanted to take a chance and have triplets.
"Alright now, what are their names?" Frasier asked.
"Yeah, come on we know you've had them this whole time," Carla said.
"Okay, first Aunt Nora and Aunt Carla need to hold their nieces," Diane said. Once the women were holding the babies Diane continued, "Carla, you are holding Angelina Diane. I know you probably hate that my first name is paired with one of your middle names."
"You named your kid after me?" Carla asked softly.
"Well, yeah," Diane said.
"Thanks, stick," Carla smiled.
"Nora," Sam began, "that little princess in your arms is Christina Nora."
"Thank you," Nora said softly, "that's very sweet of you."
"Actually, their names are our way of thanking both of you. Nora, you name a son after me, and Carla you are basically a sister to me. I just wanted you to have something that would always show how much you both mean to me. Angie and Christy are that something."
Both Crane couples and the Malones often had playdates with their kids. Nora, Diane, and Daphne would have Savannah, Ella, Lenora, Margaret, Angelina, and Christina. Niles, Sam, Frasier, and Martin would have David, Anthony, Charles, Alexander, Henry, Ernie, and Thomas. The men would also have Frederick from time to time.
"Daphne, do you and Niles ever think about trying for another girl?" Diane asked.
"We have, but then we realize we could possibly get another boy and we move on. Besides Margaret has Vannah, Ellie, and Nori. Now she has Christy and Angie, so she's good. We hadn't actually planned to have Margaret, but I am thankful every day for her."
"We had planned for Tony and Charlie but were stunned when it happened. Mainly because we hadn't planned on having twins," Nora added.
"That's what happened with David," Daphne said.
"Yeah we planned both Ernie and Tommy, obviously these two were not planned," Diane smiled.
"Yeah, Henry, Nori, Ellie, and Van were not planned at all. I guess I'm just extra fertile."
"Okay, so how do you two deal with having daughters?" Sam asked.
"What do you mean?" Niles asked.
"Well, like dating. I don't want my daughters dating because I know what is really on a guy's mind."
"Sam, our daughters are one and nine months. Your daughters are two months old," Frasier said.
"I know, but I feel I have to prepare myself."
"If you don't trust your kids, you'll never earn their trust," Martin said. "If you and Diane teach all of your kids the right lessons, you will be able to trust them and they'll trust you. Then you won't have to worry about them going for the wrong type of guy. I mean kids make mistakes, but if they think you don't trust them they may make more just to spite you. I didn't teach Frasier and Niles properly. Look at their ex-wives."
Niles and Frasier glared at their father, "I don't even think you know what you just said." Frasier commented, "Sam, do you think Diane is a good role model for your daughters?"
"Yeah, I mean of course she is."
"Then there you have it. They have their mother to influence their lives and you to help teach them about the male brain."
"Yeah, you know we all really did marry damn good women," Sam said.
"Your wife is the calmest of all of them," Niles said, "sometimes Daphne really scares me."
"Yeah, Nora can be scary. Mainly when she's silent. I know she's mad, but not why. I'm always afraid if I bring wrong when she's like that, then that'll be the end of me."
"Diane isn't scary, but she can get annoying."
"Tell me about it," Frasier agreed.
