Written for the Snake and Ladders Challenge and the Quidditch League Fanfiction Competition. Prompt was Letter/Diary.
Dear Mummy and Daddy,
Grandma says that you're in the hospital. Paul always says that you don't want me. That's why you're never around, and why I've never seen you. But I learnt today that only people who are really really sick go to the hospital! So I'll write to you until you get better. So you definitely have to get better so you can come back to see me and I don't have to send letters anymore okay? If you're reading this you have to promise to do every single thing you can do to get better!
I'll try and do my best in everything too. Even though I'm clumsy and I can't do anything right, and Grandma scolds me all the time, I'll do my best until you come back. But even though I try and try and try to do magic, I don't think I'm able to. I can hear everyone whispering around me that I might be a Squib. I don't want to be a Squib! Because then Grandma will look even more disappointed, and then I won't be able to become a good wizard like Grandma always says you are.
If I become a good wizard, you'll get better and come back right?

Dear Mummy and Daddy,
How are you doing today? I got to play in the gardens today. I don't get to go in the gardens very often because everyone says I'll get dirty, or hurt myself, but I like being outside. The plants are really nice to look at! I have a book that I've been reading that describes the different plants. I tried to recognize some today in the gardens, but I couldn't do it. I'll try harder though, for sure.
I really like going outside. I hope I get to go out more often. I behaved myself really well today, and I didn't get dirty at all! I also didn't break anything either. Grandma even smiled at me! A funny feeling came into my chest when she did that. It felt super warm. I hope I'm not sick with anything, because then I'd have to go to the hospital too, and that would be really bad. But maybe I would get to see you so maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing? I won't purposely get hurt though, don't worry!
It's almost my birthday! I'm going to turn eight soon. I wonder if you'll get better on time for my birthday? Try your hardest okay! I'll wait at the front door on my birthday so I won't miss it if you come.

Dear Mummy and Daddy,
I'll be starting Hogwarts soon. Actually, I still have about a couple years. But Grandma's started talking about Houses, and she said you were really good at your subjects, and that you guys were popular. I'm really nervous. I don't know if I'll make friends, because I've never had a friend before, and I'm no good at magic. I only just managed to do some magic the other day, actually. I bounced! Uncle Algie gave me a toad because of that! I like Uncle Algie. Do you know him? I suppose you would. He's big and hairy, but very nice! He always pats me on the head, even though his hand is heavy, and he sneaks me sweets sometimes. Or, a lot of times. But I think the other kids are going to be make fun of me. They all have pets like fluffy owls, or scary cats, but it doesn't matter because I like my toad. I think I'll name him Trevor. I think it's a very nice name.

Dear Mummy and Daddy,
I'm going to be visiting you tomorrow! I'm so excited! This is the first time I'll be able to see you! And talk to you! You never respond to my letters. Grandma says it's because you're not allowed to, so it's okay, I understand. Are you excited like me? Did Grandma tell you yet? I wonder who I look more like… Grandma says I look like mum, but I want to see for myself.
I'll bring my newest drawing for you to see! I'm really proud of it, you see. I tried my very hardest, and I think it looks very nice. It has a big sun right up in the corner, for the sky, so maybe I'll put it on the wall so your rooms are brighter. I'm sure that hospital rooms are boring, aren't they? I wouldn't want to be trapped in a room like that. And on the drawing I also drew the gardens, because I heard it's been a really long time since you've seen them. They've gotten really pretty, ever since I was allowed to work in them with Uncle Algie. You'll love them for sure when you come home.
I've got to go now. Grandma's calling me to read over some old magic textbooks. She thinks I'll get better from reading them, so I'll read them, even though the words are hard to understand and the paper is old.
Can't wait to see you!

Dear Mum and Dad,
It was… really nice to see you. To know the truth. To know everything. Grandma took me out to the hallway and explained to me about You-know-Who and what you guys did. I'm really proud of you. Really. I am.
Even though you can't read these letters. Even though you won't be there on my birthdays, or see me go to Hogwarts. Even though you're not entirely there, and probably will never be.
I'll keep writing to you though, don't worry. There isn't anything in the world that would stop me from doing this, even though Grandma still looks at me like I'm a dull in the head or crazy. You're still my parents no matter what.
I love you.
From, Neville.
