Written for the Quidditch Keague Fanfiction Competition: Round 10. Prompts were: S/he tried to remember who had talked him/her into this and "Er...I love you?" with character Lily Evans.
Snap.
The camera went off, a flash of bright light coming off it. It shifted its angle slightly, then went off again with another click. Once more, the position was changed, and the process repeated itself.
Lily smiled in satisfaction as she set the camera on the dining table. She quickly moved over to the pile of clothes sitting on the floor and chose out an adorable little robe for Harry to wear, before grabbing the camera again.
On the chair, Harry gurgled happily while posing. He was definitely enjoying the fun and attention. Lily cooed at him, and snapped again.
For a moment, she tried to remember who had talked her into this. Ah, right, it had been James and Sirius. They were bored, they said. Let's do something fun, they said.
For some reason, they had suddenly wanted numerous pictures of Harry in various poses and clothing, and had asked her to do it. Lily was definitely suspicious, but she hadn't asked about it. Whatever they were planning, she hoped it would lift the spirits of everyone in the Order. The war had hit them particularly hard recently, and everyone was in a dark mood.
As she lifted the camera again, she heard heavy footsteps on the stairs and the sound of loud arguing. It was Sirius and James, who had disappeared the moment they deposited the baby clothes on the floor, even though the whole thing was their idea in the first place.
"I'm definitely sexier," declared the muffled voice of Sirius.
"I think you're talking about me," James shot back.
"Well I think you're in denial."
They rounded the corner into view, and Lily's jaw dropped. Harry stopped laughing, focusing on the strangers. His forehead crinkled slightly as he registered the faces. He pointed at James, face showing clear confusion. Lily couldn't help it anymore. She burst into laughter. The two of them exchanged grins at her reaction, striking ridiculous and dramatic poses in their respective outfits.
"How do we look?" James asked, hips stuck out as far as he could as he fluttered his eyelashes.
"We're rocking these outfits," Sirius smirked, agreeing, placing a hand on his waist.
They looked completely unapologetic wearing clothes stolen from her closet. Fishnet tights, leggings, dresses… they were completely decked out. Lily wondered how it even fit. She was several times smaller than them.
"Go on then, take pictures." James said, gesturing.
She raised an eyebrow. "What do you two have to say for yourselves? Dressing like this… I think my eyes are permanently damaged."
"Excuse you," Sirius scoffed. "We're fabulous, thank you very much. Anything less would be desecrating the legacy of the Marauders. Right, Prongs?"
He turned to James, who was looking slightly sheepish. "Er...I love you?" he said.
Sirius scoffed. "Whipped," he muttered underneath his breath.
Lily rolled her eyes, but lifted the camera anyways. It was amusing enough, at any rate. She would humour them.
"Cheese!" she said, clicking the button.
The first picture she took of them contained the two of them looking at the camera in baffled surprise.
"What's wrong, didn't you want to pose?" Lily asked.
"Well, yeah, but that was before you suddenly said 'cheese'," Sirius frowned at her. "Are you hungry or something?"
"No… it's a muggle thing. Just, ignore it," Lily said. "Now, about those pictures?"
Immediately, the two of them struck poses. Lily smiled, and snapped a picture. Then another, and another. The two of them seemed to be competing for who could strike the most extravagant pose, and her stomach was starting to hurt from suppressed laughter. Hours later, when they finally exhausted their energy, Lily shut off the camera, tossing it to them to develop to their pleasure.
James and Sirius exchanged wide grins. Phase 1, complete.
Only a matter of hours later, it was time again for an Order of the Phoenix meeting. James and Sirius smirked at each other as they arrived an hour early. They had extra preparations to make, after all. Dumbledore smiled amusedly at them as they ran around, letting out a small chuckle every once in a while.
They started at the front hall, decorating it with the endless number of photos of Harry that Lily had taken. When the Order members entered, they would be surprised and fall complacent, thinking that someone had put the photos there to cheer them up. Then, the true prank started once they entered the meeting room. Laughing, the two of them cast sticking charms on the backs of their photos, scattering it in the room and throughout the kitchen. They left a couple extra of them in special seductive poses, all for the grand finale.
Escaping upstairs, they waited.
The doorbell rang, and Dumbledore left to confirm who it was. It was McGonagall. Perfect. They exchanged gleeful grins, waiting for her reaction.
The plan was executed splendidly. They heard the small gasp of surprise as she moved through the front hallways, murmuring about the baby pictures. As she entered the dining room, there was a small, horrified shriek.
Sirius and James high fived, and proceeded to skip downstairs to observe their handiwork.
"Why hello there, Minnie!" Sirius greeted cheerfully.
"Do you like it?" James asked with a jaunty wave.
"You two..." McGonagall said. She turned to face them, a scandalized expression on her face as she let out a huge, heaving sigh. "I should've known. It's been far too quiet these days. To think I was hoping you had matured."
"Oh, come one! You know you love us!" James replied with a cheeky grin.
Shaking her head, McGonagall sat down and set her bag next to her. In the next second the doorbell rang again and James and Sirius waited eagerly for the next person.
It was Remus and Peter. Upon entering the room, Peter let out a strangled squeak. He stumbled backwards, bumping his head on the door frame. Sirius and James immediately roared with laughter, ignoring the disdainful sniff from McGonagall. Remus just smiled slightly, shaking his head in amusement.
The rest of the Order slowly filed in. Their reactions ranged from outright shock to hilarious laughter, filling the room with shouts and giggles and smiles. Lily joined in on the good cheer, pretending to be surprised at the pictures. She shot the two of them a wink when no one was looking. They gave her a thumbs up back.
James and Sirius smiled at each other from across the room. Phase 2, complete.
They all left that day in good spirits.
