The incident at the bar was a huge wake-up call for John. He pleaded guilty to drunk driving and assault. His lawyers asked Nora to go to the hearing because of John's statement. Sam, Diane, Frasier, and Nora went.

"Mr. Mulhern, I understand you have a statement you would like to read."

"Yes, your honor," John stood holding his statement, "I am deeply sorry to the court and the city for my reckless actions. There is absolutely no excuse for what I have done. I am especially sorry to my two children, my daughter in particular. I am ashamed of myself for hurting my sweet and wonderful daughter. I may have not broken her bones, but I broke her heart. I disappointed my son as well. I would like them to know that I have decided to return to AA even if I have to from a prison. I deserve what's coming to me. I love my children and grandchildren, and I hope one day to have earned their forgiveness."

"Thank you, Mr. Mulhern, does the prosecution have any recommendations in regards to sentencing?"

"Yes, your honor," the ADA stood, "the defendant's children, Mr. Malone and Mrs. Crane have asked for leniency. I would like to recommend a two-year probationary period for Mr. Mulhern along with random sobriety testing, and two hundred hours of community service at the county morgue."

Sam leaned over to Nora, "that's leniency?" he whispered. The judge accepted the sentencing and John was released. He was stunned to see his children and their spouses waiting for him.

"What are you all doing here?"

"You need a ride home," Nora said. Nora let go of her husband and walked unsteadily over to her father. John walked towards her, so she didn't fall and get hurt. "Thanks for meeting me halfway," Nora smiled.

"I am so sorry," John began to cry a little.

"I know," Nora said as she wrapped her free arm around her father to hug him. John clung to Nora as he cried.

"Sorry, I got carried away and forgot about your bruises."

"It's alright," Nora said.

Sam walked over and hugged his father. Diane was in Nora's line of sight. Diane saw Nora looking at her and walked over, "Hey, are you okay?" she whispered.

"I need to lean against something," Nora whispered back. Diane knew Nora wasn't able to turn around easily, so she helped her sister-in-law turn and walk towards Frasier.

Frasier opened his arms for Nora and wrapped them around her, "you alright, darling?"

"I will be," Nora said.

Diane walked up to Sam and John, "I'm sorry to interrupt, really I am, but I think we should get Nora home." The two men looked and saw that Frasier was the only thing keeping Nora upright. She had dropped her cane and Frasier didn't want to move because he was afraid she'd fall or trip over the cane.

The two men ran over to help, "gee, Nora I'm sorry," Sam said as he picked her cane up.

"Yeah, sorry sweetheart," John said as he opened the car door for his daughter. Frasier was able to get Nora to the car and settled in her seat. She hadn't slept much since that night, but tonight she would sleep pretty damn good.
