Nora was doing much better nine months after her stroke. She would lose her balance here and there, but for the most part, she was moving around really well.
"I'll go tell Frederick that dinner is ready," Nora told her husband.
"I don't want you going up those stairs," Frasier yelled.
"Can I yell up to him?" Nora asked sarcastically.
"Just don't strain your vocal cords," Frasier replied.
Nora walked over to the stairs and yelled up for Frederick. She turned to go back to the kitchen but lost her balance.
"Mama!" Frederick yelled as he saw the woman fall. He moved quickly to the woman. "Mama, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I think so," Nora said still in a little bit of shock. She had been so careful not to fall the entire time.
"Nora!" Frasier had heard Frederick yell and ran to see what was wrong, "darling, are you hurt?"
"No, just a bit shocked. Will you help me up?"
"Of course," Frasier helped his wife to stand and Frederick handed the cane to her.
"I'm going to have a bruise on my hip," Nora said as she rubbed her left hip.
"Dad, I can hold onto mama if you want to finish up," Frederick said and Frasier went back to the kitchen. "Just let me know when you're ready to move," Frederick said as he grabbed onto Nora's left arm.
"Okay," Nora limped a bit as she and Frederick made their way to the dining room. Nora woke up the next day with a huge bruise on her hip that hurt like hell. Frasier had a meeting at the station, so Daphne and Niles offered to watch the girls. That way, John wouldn't be overwhelmed with them and Nora.
John made the two lunch, "daddy, can we eat out back?"
"Sure, I'll be right back to help you out." John went back to the kitchen to clear off the table and get everything together to take outside.
"Daddy!" John heard his daughter yell for him and he ran.
"Nora!" He found his daughter on the floor in the living room, "sweetheart what happened?"
"I got up to go to the bathroom and I don't know what happened, but I fell."
"Yeah, and on the same side too. You think anything is broken?"
"Just my pride," Nora joked.
"Pride is overrated," John joked back. "Here honey, let me help you up. Let me know if I hurt you." John helped his daughter up and sat her on the couch before grabbing her cane for her.
"Thank you," Nora said as she was catching her breath. "Can we still eat outside?"
John chuckled, "if you want to, but let me help you in the bathroom." John could tell Nora was embarrassed, "look, it's alright. Don't be embarrassed about your dad helping you in the bathroom." John held out his hand and Nora took it. She groaned loudly as she stood. The arm holding her cane shaking the entire time. John helped Nora use the bathroom and then helped her outside to the patio table. "You sure you're alright?" John asked as he brought the food out.
"I'm just bruised. If it feels like I broke it then I'll tell one of you."
Everyone decided to have a surprise party for Nora at Cheers. It wasn't a big birthday, but they felt that with everything she had been through that she deserved a party. Nora was ecstatic when she walked into the bar. Nora was still sore from her two falls, but she decided to suck it up and have fun. As the party was winding down, Nora was running low on energy. She was walking back from the bathroom when she stumbled and fell. Sam lept over the bar and rushed to help his sister, "Hey, you okay?" Sam asked.
"Yeah," Nora sounded like she was in pain. Nora insisted she was fine and that everyone still leave. That she needed a moment before she got up. Everyone but Frasier, John, and Sam left.
"They're all gone," Sam said knowing what Nora was holding in.
Nora let out a pained scream, "hospital, please."
The hospital told Nora that nothing was broken, but that she had bruised her hip bone. Nora decided to have someone with her for the time being when she walked.
It took three more months, but now Nora was walking without her cane. She couldn't run after her kids and she didn't walk at her usual pace yet. A year and a half after that awful day, Nora had a clean bill of health. She eased back into her everyday life just in case. She realized over the past year and a half that she had many people who loved her. Martin was right when he said that the Cheers gang was family because they shared her heart, and Norm when he said she had wormed her way into everyone's hearts. Nora kept getting knocked down, but every time she got back up. Nora was forever safe in their hearts.
