I do not own Sonic the Hedgehog

The flowers were blooming, the sun was shining, and yet on a day like this that egghead still finds a way to ruin it for everyone. Currently station square is a complete mess at the moment due to the traditional robot invasion that seems to happen every year.

The tall skyscrapers shrouded in a cloud of smoke, remnants from the ongoing battle taking place between the infamous Doctor Robotnik and the fastest thing alive; Sonic the Hedgehog. Said hedgehog was hunting down the Badniks one by one, his homing attack never seeming to slow down. In quick fashion, he was able to clear out the entire city of robot's before the doctor could show up himself. Honestly it was like a choir to him at this point, or at least another day for the blue blur.

"You know maybe you should try throwing something at me with a different coat of paint sometime, I'm getting tired of staring at the same grey gears eggman!"

Sonic with his trademark smirk simply stared at the newcomer, his confidence apparent to anyone

"Hmph, and who let the over sized rat out into the maze? If I recall you were supposed to be dealing with metal, obviously seeing you here means he didn't quite finish the job"

The egg mobile floated down to meet the hedgehog, only to reveal a real piece of work. Eggman came into view while adjusting the glasses perched on his nose who seemed apathetic to the situation, but on closer inspection one could see a small frown forming below his out-of-control mustache.

"No matter, it just means I have to deal with you myself then"

Sonic kept his smirk on, appearing to agitate Eggman further "Famous last words doc, how about instead you hand over the emeralds you've been collecting and we can call it a day?"

Eggman waved a finger in front of Sonic frantically "Why would I give up the key to eliminating the biggest thorn in my side since my debut on this pathetic planet"

Sonic's grin receded into a thin line, his face becoming a little more serious as seconds pass"Because i'm not the only Mobian wanting those emeralds out of your hands and they could be a much worse experience to deal with, you know how touchy Knuckles is with the Master emerald"

The two glared at each other, waiting for any reaction from each other, looking for an opening. Until sonic quickly produced a spin dash to quickly gain speed just enough to reach the egg mobile. Unfortunately Eggman was prepared and dogged out of the way, producing firearms from his craft and started firing at the Blue Blur.

Sonic responded by springing off a nearby building sending a homing attack straight into the side of the vehicle.

"Gah! You insufferable hedgehog, did you think this would be easy for you?"

Eggman shouted, pointing his finger with a glare that could melt stone.

"From how upset you seem, I would say pretty easy"

Just then Eggman's console started beeping, summoning a feral grin to form on the doctor's face. After a quick few button presses he started to elevate his egg mobile.

"You know Sonic...your kind heroic acts are prone to come back to haunt you, and in this case it couldn't be better timing"

"What do yo-"

Very quickly the sound of a jet silenced the hedgehog, putting him on edge as realization sinks in.

"Metal, I thought you...HOW!?"

A familiar blue robot appeared in view between the two appearing apathetic to anyone who spared the Metal variant of Sonic at a glance, but to Sonic there was an underlying anger hidden beneath the red irises of the machine.

"Primary objective located: Engaging with target now"

Metal accelerated towards sonic, slashing his metal claws at him aiming for his torso. Sonic blocked the attempt with his arm only to kick Metal a few feet away from the hedgehog. While Sonic was panting, metal was fizzing, both parties not ready to heel.

Just then a familiar Bi-plane was sighted "Hey Sonic! Catch"

The sun blinded Sonic, but he managed to see the familiar glow of a chaos emerald fly towards him, suffice to say Sonic reacted in no time, grabbing the emerald before Metal could. Metal quickly went to intercept the hedgehog but was just too far to grab it in time, so Metal instead went for another attack on Sonic.

"Chaos Control"

Sonic disappeared from metal's view, only to feel an impact from behind him. Sonic grinning at metal as he embedded his foot into Metal's backside.

"Metal, stop messing around! We need those emeralds"

Metal simply turned his head to face his creator

"Acknowledged"

Just like that in a burst of speed, metal came face to face with sonic, aiming at his throat. Sonic dogged to the left of the robot, planting another fist to the side of his jaw. Metal quickly realized that sonic was speeding up, that's the only explanation that made logical sense.

"Sonic! Amy and Knuckles have already gotten the master emerald from the fleet, send him packing!"

Eggman broke into a cold sweat as he realized the implication of that statement, his fleet without a main source of power would eventually succumb to gravity setting him back by a wide margin.

"WHAT!? What were those bots doing!? Metal we need to retreat, that's an order"

"...Understood"

Metal locked eyes with sonic for only a couple seconds, before speeding off with the Doctor back to the fleet. Sonic simply shrugged and gave a thumbs up to the now landing Bi-plane.

"Nice work Tails! Where would I be without 'ya"

"Ah well, probably as set back as you would be"

"Hehe, maybe. Anyways how's the rest of the gang?"

Tails hopped out of the Bi-plane landing next to sonic, while brushing off the dust from the dismembered concrete out of his yellow fur and tails.

"Amy and Rose were dropped off earlier back at Angel island, so that I could make space for you. Although convincing Amy was really hard to do mind you"

"Yeah...and Knuckles?"

"He's just happy the Master emerald is back on Angel Island, although he did seem a little out of it"

Sonic's face formed a frown, but quickly picked back up to his usual grin.

"Really?"

"Well he kept mumbling to himself ever since he got the emerald back, something to do with chaos...maybe we should check on him?"

"Don't worry about it, i'll stop by late today on my way back to the workshop"

Tails showed off his own frown and folded his arms in protest

"Sonic, I dropped them off so we could go back together though"

"Ah, alright. Shall we head off then?"

Tails quickly beamed and got back into the Bi-plane, with sonic hopping in the passenger seat, welcoming the break from running.

"Aye aye Sonic, Angel Island awaits"
