A Face without our Memories - Part 2

"What do you mean, you're going!" shouted Inuyasha.

"I'm not going to keep repeating myself to you!" Kagome yelled back.

Their loud voices could be heard through the floor as Sota and his grandfather watched TV. "Do you think we should go up there?" asked Sota.

"No, they'll sort it out," Mrs. Higurashi replied, while turning up the TV volume.

"Then I'm coming!" Inuyasha argued.

"You most certainly are not! You draw way too much attention. And besides you'll find a way to ruin everything."

"Keh. Ruin everything. What's that supposed to mean? You're coming up with some pretty weak excuses, Kagome." The half demon's arms were crossed tightly against his chest and he was planted firmly in her bedroom doorway.

"Come on, you saw this too," she said shoving the flyer under his nose.

"Oooo, the red warrior," Inuyasha rolled his eyes, tilting his head back to exaggerate how much he didn't care. "You know what? I don't give a fuck about that. I'm more worried about how stupid you sound. You're about to go meet up with some guy you don't know and only met for five seconds. You don't even know his fucking name! I thought you were smarter than that Kagome."

"Ugh you're missing the point." She threw her hands up, exasperated.

"No you're missing the point," he said shoving his finger in her face. "I know what you're thinking. It's written all over your stupid face. That guy is not my reincarnation. Just how dumb are you? You're just as bad as the stupid little people in that box downstairs."

"It's called a Teee...Veee...," she said, overemphasizing the letters, her hands placed firmly on her hips. She knew he was going to continue running off at the mouth.

"Ya, that. I heard it today, that a woman went missing after meeting up with a stranger from the 'inner nets' and that's exactly what you're trying to do. And I'll be damned if you think I'm just going to sit back and watch you walk right into danger. I'm responsible for you no matter how crazy you are and….."

"Osuwari!" That was it, she had reached her limit. The amount of times he'd called her dumb already had steam blowing out her ears. And then on top of it, he just called her crazy! She decided that she was going, regardless of any reasonable argument that he came up with.

"Why you!" muttered Inuyasha from the floor. He struggled to lift his head up and was repaid with the retreating backside of Kagome's figure. "Kagome, get back over here!" I won't forgive you this time! You're going to regret this! See if I come save you again you ungrateful wench!"

"Osuwaaaariii!" the fuming young girl yelled back up the stairs, her last ounce of patience threatened by his rolling insults and crude remarks. She took several deep breaths to regain her composure.

"Momma, I'm going out, I'll be back in time for dinner," Kagome said, walking past the living room without saying a proper goodbye. She was so mad, but she didn't want to take her anger out on her family.

"Okay, be careful dear," her mother called back right before Kagome closed the front door. Quietly Mrs. Higurashi got up from her chair and went upstairs.

Kagome had left the house 5 minutes ago, but that didn't stop Inuyasha from mumbling and cursing up a storm. He sat on the floor of Kagome's room, clearly upset that she wouldn't listen to him and absolutely furious that he had already promised not to go back without her. Fuck, did he want out of there. Her last sit command still echoed in his head and he shook his head violently, as if he could get her voice out of his head by doing so, but stopped suddenly when he heard footsteps on the stairs. He knew who those soft, graceful footsteps belonged to.

Great, what does she want.

He was in no mood to talk and turned his back to the doorway, "Yeah, what do you want?" he spat.

"Inuyasha?" the tone of her voice made him turn around. Mrs. Higurashi stood at the end of Kagome's bed with a baseball cap in hand, his baseball cap to be exact.

"Forget it, I'm not going after her," he sulked and turned back around, but Kagome's mom didn't withdraw.

On the contrary, she walked into the room and sat down on the bed next to the miko clothes Kagome wore earlier. "Kagome can be very stubborn, like her father," she spoke softly, "Even when the decision she's made doesn't quite make sense, she sticks to it."

"Ya, well she made it very clear that she'd prefer to spend time with a guy who looks like me," he scowled.

Mrs. Higurashi didn't say anything at first. She kneeled on the ground next to the half demon and he turned his head to look at her. She reached out her hand and placed it over his heart and said the most simplest of words. But to him, they were the most important words. "You. You are the only Inuyasha I trust."

Inuyasha's crude front melted away and he looked at her and recognized the genuineness of her feelings about him and the concern she had for her daughter.

Damn, Kagome doesn't know how lucky she is.

Inuyasha turned his head away, embarrassment threatening to turn his whole face red. "Where do I find her?" he mumbled.

Mrs. Higurashi, blinked a tear away. She knew exactly why her daughter had fallen for Inuyasha.
