Christmas Eve, Catherine and Jackie decided to make a fancy dinner. Jackie helped with the salad and the mash potatoes while Catherine made her first turkey. By the time the girls had dinner ready and got the baby all set up, they were both exhausted. The food was fantastic. After several wine glasses, Catherine and Jackie sat by the fire late into the evening talking about the baby and Jackie's upcoming trip to Los Angeles. Jackie was leaving for a week of filming, and she was worried about the baby and how she might take Jackie's absence. Catherine understood that this is who Jackie was as an actress. If Catherine wanted Jackie to remain in her life, she would have to adjust to who she was. It was hard for Catherine not to be in control and allow Jackie enough space to pursue her career.

That night Catherine and Jackie fell asleep in each other's arms. Around 5 am, the baby was screaming in her bed. Jackie stumbled over to her crib and noticed that her diaper needed changing. Jackie changed the baby and walked over to the Christmas tree with Mattie to see the presents. Catherine was still asleep. Jackie sat on the floor with the baby and helped her open up the gift she had gotten for her. As they began opening the present, Catherine walked in, telling Jackie, "are you serious, let me get the camera. Jackie, I haven't even brushed my teeth, and you already started opening up her presents." Jackie said, laughing, "I couldn't wait any longer. I started with my gifts. Hurry!"

As Catherine ran to get the camera, Jackie and the baby began ripping open the first gift. The baby was in giggles as Catherine walked back into the room, filming her girls. By far, this was the happiest Catherine had ever been since her parents had died. She sat with her girls as Jackie placed the baby in the bouncy chair. The baby was still a little tiny, but she was drooling and giggling as Jackie and Catherine both helped Mattie as she sat in her new toy. Jackie finally looked at Catherine and said it was her turn. Jackie went over to the tree and grabbed her gift for Catherine. Catherine thought that Jackie hadn't gotten her anything that day at the mall. She was surprised that Jackie indeed had bought her a gift. As Catherine took the present into her hand, she looked up at Jackie.

Jackie said, "Come on, open it." Catherine unwrapped it and saw that it was a Locket necklace that Jackie had had engraved with both Catherine's and Mattie's initials on the outside. As Catherine opened the locket up, it had pictures of both of Catherine as a baby and Mattie. Catherine began to tear up, looking at Jackie's gift. Jackie said, "I thought you'd like a picture of Mattie close to your heart. Plus, it's a reminder of how much your little girl looks like you." Catherine stood and kissed Jackie and thanked her for the thoughtful gift.

As they continued to open up their gifts, Catherine thought about the things she had gotten Jackie. She gave her a new Macbook Pro and clothes, but none of her Christmas gifts had compared in meaning as did Jackie's present. Catherine felt terrible because she knew that she was holding back from telling Jackie how she truly felt about her. Jackie wore her heart on her sleeve. Catherine could read her like a magazine from the first moment she met her. Catherine was afraid to show Jackie that she loved her more than anything and that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with her. In Catherine's mind, Jackie was very young and maybe didn't have any idea what she truly wanted and, in the end, would leave her. Catherine had doubts about moving forward with Jackie because she was afraid that she would hurt her again. Catherine had always been the one who did the leaving and not the other way around. As Catherine watched Jackie and the baby playing with her new toys, she began to sob. Jackie looked over at her and did not know what was going on with Catherine. "Catherine, what is it?" said Jackie. Catherine snapped at her, "Jackie, I just need a moment. Jackie, you don't have to know everything!"

At that moment, Catherine hurt Jackie's feelings in the way that she had snapped at her. She did not understand what had gone wrong. Maybe it was her hogging up the baby. Jackie got the baby to her crib for a nap. Two hours of playing with the toys and unwrapping gifts had tired out the baby. After she put the baby to bed, Jackie went back into the living room to clean up. Still no sign of Catherine. Catherine had retreated to her bedroom upstairs to be alone. Jackie thought she better not force her way into her bedroom and just give her some alone time. Jackie went into her own bedroom and decided to take a shower and get lunch started. As she was in the shower, she felt Catherine's naked body cuddle up to her from behind. Catherine began kissing the back of her neck as she turned Jackie around to kiss her. As things got heated, Catherine started kissing down Jackie's body. Catherine couldn't say to Jackie the words she wanted to tell her, so she demonstrated how she felt by making love to her. Ironically, being a psychologist, Catherine could never express herself in words how she was feeling to Jackie. Jackie didn't understand what was going on with Catherine.

As they continued this scene in the bedroom, Catherine took her time to communicate her love for Jackie. Their love making session was intense, as Jackie looked into Catherine's eyes, she could see that she was crying. "Catherine, why are you crying?" No answer came from Catherine. She just continued to make love to Jackie like she was going to lose her. After Catherine fell asleep from her emotional session with Jackie, Jackie watched Catherine sleep. Confused by it all, Jackie felt like Catherine wanted to tell her something, but was holding back. Jackie couldn't breathe and started hyperventilating. As she got up out of bed, she fell to the bedroom floor, trying to catch her breath. Using the nightstand to get up, the lamp fell off the table, hitting her on the foot. At that moment, Catherine woke up. As she looked over, she saw Jackie on the floor with the table overturned on top of her. As Catherine rushed to help her, she lifted Jackie as best as she could. Jackie was bleeding from her foot.

"Breathe, Baby! Jackie, breathe!" Catherine was in a panic as she knew Jackie was struggling to catch her breath. "Calm down, Baby! Come here, Breathe with me." As Catherine held her head next to her chest, Jackie was still not finding her breath. "Jackie, everything is okay, calm down." As Catherine had her next to her chest, Jackie slowly started to breathe in unison with Catherine. A couple of minutes more past as Jackie started to normalize her breathing, Catherine continued to speak softly. Catherine helped Jackie over to the bed and went into the bathroom to get her some water and a paper bag. This panic attack was horrible. Catherine knew that eventually, Jackie would need to see a doctor. Looking at Jackie's foot, she would need stitches. Trying to keep Jackie calm, Catherine told Jackie they'd needed to get her foot examined. Catherine started getting herself and Jackie dressed. As Jackie stayed in bed, Catherine got the baby into her car seat. Buckling her girls into the SUV, Jackie still breathing into her paper bag, Jackie began to cry and telling Catherine she was sorry she had ruined Christmas. "Porcupine, you didn't ruin anything. It was an accident."

Entering the hospital, Catherine started filling out Jackie's paperwork. Jackie was seen quickly. Jackie was sent home with some valium and twelve stitches. Disappointed in tonight's events, Catherine thought that this was a Christmas to remember. As she got her girls in bed both before 8 pm, Catherine knew that she needed to figure out how she was going to get through this mess that was now her life. At some point she was going to have to communicate her feelings to Jackie.

Next day, Jackie started preparing for her role. Catherine caught her running lines. Even though, it was a small part, Jackie wanted to do her best. Catherine was feeding the baby as she over heard Jackie from her bedroom. Sadly, Catherine did not want to see Jackie leave for a week. Catherine thought about asking for a week off from work to follow Jackie to Hollywood, but didn't know if this was something Jackie wanted.

That evening, Catherine heard a knock on her front door. It was Mrs. Kirk. Surprised, by her visit Catherine invited her in. Mrs. Kirk, immediately asked to see Jackie. Catherine felt her coldness and decided to just get Jackie. As she walked into the bedroom, Catherine told Jackie that she'd take over changing the baby. Catherine said, "Jackie, your mother is waiting for you in the living room, she looks very upset." Confused, Jackie handed over the baby and left Catherine alone with the baby.

As Jackie entered the living room she said, "Mom, what are you doing here? Is everything okay." Mrs. Kirk didn't answer her right away. She took out of her purse Jackie's diary and placed it on the coffee table. Jackie, instantly fell to her knees, and began to cry. Jackie said, "Mom, I was going to tell you. I never meant to hurt you." Mrs. Kirk slapped her and she began spewing ugly things at Jackie. As Catherine entered with the baby in her arms, she noticed the ugly scene. Mrs. Kirk said, " I need to talk with my daughter alone, can you please give us a minute. Jackie looked at Catherine and said, " Catherine, please just go, leave us alone." Catherine was confused, but knew something dreadful was happening. Jackie looked like she had been slapped across the face. As Catherine went to the bedroom to put the baby in her crib, and quickly go back out to see what was going on. As she walked in she heard Mrs. Kirk telling Jackie, "Get your things and let's go, if you refuse you know what I will do." In that moment, Mrs. Kirk angrily walked past Catherine and walked out of the house.

Catherine kneeled in front of Jackie who was still on the floor crying into her hands. "Porcupine, what is going on? Talk to me." Jackie couldn't talk. Slowly Jackie, got up and walked into the bedroom refusing to talk or answer Catherine. As she packed her luggage, Catherine tried stopping her, but Jackie pushed her away. Jackie was crying when she said, " Catherine, I can't be with you anymore. Don't look for me or call me. Please. " As she walked out, leaving with her mother who was waiting outside in a taxi cab. Catherine began to shake and cry, she didn't understand what had happened.

As she went back into the living room, she saw Jackie's diary on the coffee table. It was the same diary she had first seen and packed from her dorm room. Upon opening it, Catherine began to read page after page, every single detail of their relationship had been documented by Jackie in this book. Their first time, everything has been written down in this diary. Catherine now understood that Mrs. Kirk had read it. Catherine said to herself, "she knows everything." In a panic, Catherine knew she needed to talk to Jackie. Texting her, Catherine told her to come home, it does matter if her mother knew about them. " Jackie, please come home. We can figure this out together." But no response ever came from Jackie. Catherine made call after call, day after day, until Jackie disconnected her phone number.

Depressed, Catherine went back to work and hired an additional nanny for Mattie. Catherine tried to have hope that Jackie would return, but as the months went slowly by she never did. One night, she saw Jackie on television. She was being interviewed by Entertainment Tonight for her small role in the remake of Neptune 26. Catherine noticed that Jackie looked beautiful. The interviewer asked her if it was true she was dating her co-star Tommy. Jackie said, "Yes, we have been dating for a few weeks." At that Catherine began to cry. Catherine knew Jackie had moved on.
