A/n: Hey yall! I hope everyone has been having a good day. I have another chapter for you all! This is the backstory arc of the boy Kent Levins!

Chapter 2: Kent Levin (I)

~10 years ago, somewhere near Mistral~

"Well done, Mr. Levin. You may take your seat now." A man with brown hair and green eyes complimented the young brunette.

He was Kent's homeroom adviser in his hometown school near Mistral, Mr. Ace. Kent had spent the year under his guidance, watching over his growth in school as he excelled in every subject.

"That will be all for this semester class, see you all in the next one. Have a fun summer!" Mr. Ace widely smiled at his class before leaving the classroom.

It was summer break, Kent's favorite time of the year. He always looked forward to summer break, for it was also when his mom would stay at home and spend time with him. His older sister, who was ten years older than him, Rayna Levin, will also be coming home from Beacon. It was his sister's first year, and based on the letters and messages they received from her, she has had a great time with her team and school.

After a short walk, Kent had finally arrived at his home. Levin's residence was only a short distance from school. It was surrounded by trees, with their home built with a sturdy brick foundation and wooden walls with a neatly decorated exterior and interior. It wasn't outstanding, but it was 'home' for the family.

As he opened the door, he was welcomed by a braided blonde-haired and silver-eyed girl who attempted to scare him, "Boo!"

"Hehe, you know that doesn't work on me anymore, big sis." Kent simply reacted with a wide smile completely unfazed, tackling her older sister with a tight hug.

Rayna, his big sister, was wearing a blue knee-length combat skirt with a fitted collar where the family emblem was embedded at the right side. On top of her combat skirt, she wore a black jacket that only reached the lower part of her chest, with their family emblem embedded at the back of it. She also wore white fingerless gloves with black accents, and black boots with her katana sheathed at the end of her combat skirt.

"Haha, well, it was worth a shot," Rayna replied, messing her brother's hair. "How has my little bundle of energy been?"

Kent loves his sister more than anyone in the world, aside from their parents. She was his role-model when their parents weren't home. His older sister had taught him how to cook and bake food, helped him with his studies, and even taught him how to fight, showing him her own combat moves as well as unlocking his aura before Rayna left for Beacon.

She was the best big sister he could've asked for. She was strong, fearless, selfless, and always cared for others, especially him.

"I've been well sis! I've finished first in all of our exams this semester!" The brunette replied energetically with his light-blue eyes now sparkling.

His sister's narrow eyes had widened, surprised from what her brother had just said. She knew he was smart, but it was still an impressive feat for a seven-year-old kid. Both siblings then heard a soft and familiar voice from the kitchen.

"With those results, my baby boy deserves a feast tonight, then?" The voice came from their mother with brown hair and also had silver-eyes, Anna Levin formerly Anna Calavera, who was wearing a black-robe and was now leaning at the door frame of the kitchen entrance.

Kent's mom, Anna, was a huntress who graduated from Haven Academy, and would often take missions from across the Kingdom. She would tell him and his sister stories of her adventures throughout her years of being a huntress. She was the main reason both Kent and Rayna aimed to be great huntsmen and huntresses.

Throughout the Kingdom, their mom was known as one of the best huntresses, with her strength capable of handling an army of 50 men, which she once did, stopping a large group of bandits who were ransacking a nearby village. As much as her mother takes pride in her work, she never fails to make time for her children.

"Mom!" both siblings happily cheered in unison, rushing towards her, as they tackled her to floor with a bear hug. "Still bubbly as always, I suppose. How are my adorable babies doing?"

The three Levins then shared a lengthy conversation, sharing a few laughs at some of the stories Rayna and Kent shared, both clearly exaggerating some parts of their stories.

They then noticed the front door opening, "Oh, it seems I'm late to the party." A tall blonde man with blue eyes holding a bag of ingredients, chuckling at the sight of the three.

"Not at all, dear, welcome home Ken," Anna replied before standing up with her children. "Glad your back as well, dear," Kennedy responded with a warm smile, looking at his family.

"Pops!" Rayna shouted as Kent also shouted, "Dad!"

Kent's father, Kennedy Levin, was also a huntsman who graduated from Haven Academy. He was in the same team with Anna, where the two both met and eventually became a thing. Unlike his wife, Kennedy wasn't as strong as her but held his own ground for the most part with his rare elemental semblance of lightning. After graduating, both Kennedy and Anna usually went on missions together, until the former proposed to latter.

The couple eventually gave birth to Rayna, making Kennedy decide to retire as a huntsman and be a full-time father and work as a metalsmith in their town. He has spent most of his time looking after Rayna and his shop until Kent was born. His job of taking care of both children was slightly easier with her daughter, often helping out in taking care of the young Kent.

"Hey, kids! What say you both help your old man and your mom with dinner tonight?" Kennedy asked, walking towards the kitchen, placing the ingredients at the counter before continuing. "It'll be your favorite."

"Ice cream?!" Kent, with sparkling eyes, asked aloud.

"No, silly, our favorite, Dad's beef stew!" Rayna answered with her eyes also sparkling with joy.

"Spot on as always, princess!" Kennedy said aloud as he was re-checking what he had bought.

"Hmm…" with a puzzling look forming on his face.

"What's wrong dad? Did you forget something?" Kent asked.

"It seems I have. How could I forget the apples? Looks like your pops is getting old." he rubbed his neck before letting out a chuckle and replying to his son.

"That's okay dad, I can get them for you. There's an apple tree not too far from here." Kent replied with a smile, grabbing his coat, which he placed near the couch.

"Don't take too long out there, okay? It's getting close to night time." Kennedy instructed with concern in his voice.

"Yup! Be right back, mom, sis!" Kent replied, giving his family a hug before heading off towards the apple tree. "I'll be back before you know it!"

The apple tree that Kent spoke of was inside the forest, not too deep in but deep enough to lose sight of the house.

While he was walking, he activated his aura. He then felt a large group's presence looming near him. He felt unsafe and picked up his pace towards the tree, but his uneasiness was quickly lifted upon the sight of a familiar brown-haired man.

His homeroom adviser, Mr. Ace, standing near the tree that Kent was looking for, letting out a sigh of relief. He then approached his teacher, and not long after the latter noticed his presence.

"Ah, Kent. Odd to see you around here this late." Mr. Ace said as he was now facing the young Kent.

"Good evening, sir. I was just about to grab a couple of apples from that tree for dinner." Kent replied with a smile.

There's something wrong here... - Something felt off since Mr. Ace had never called him by his first name before, and that had instantly raised a red flag. As he kept his cool, he then proceeded to speak to Mr. Ace with more caution.

"How about you, sir? What are you doing out here in the forest?"

"O-oh, well… I was just about to… do the same! Ah, yes. I was out to get some oranges too." he quickly replied with a shaky voice slightly stuttering,

"Oranges?" Kent with a puzzled look taking in what the teacher had just said, raising yet another red flag.

Quickly he had placed the pieces together, noting that the teacher was up to something no good, and there was a possibility that he's acquainted with the group he felt earlier.

"I see… sorry Mr. Ace, but I think I'll be heading home now. Have a nice evening." as he turned around, proceeding to take a step forward.

W-Wh...at? - Suddenly, he felt a sudden pressure hitting his neck with force. Kent's vision went blurry, barely seeing Mr. Ace laying him down.

"I'm… sorry… Kent." hearing a whisper from the latter, the last words he heard before completely passing out.

Gasping himself awake, his breathing felt uneasy while his body was shaking heavily, as he recalled what had just happened. As he tries to regain his composure, he looked around his surroundings to see that he was still in the forest.

Judging from the darkness of the forest, it must have already been a few hours since I was incapacitated by Mr. Ace.

I ...Why am I so... weak? - Gripping his hands tightly, frustrated for reacting too slow and being so dumb to not see through his plans quick enough. He was still young, had no experience of what the real world was like... until now.

He then looked up at the sky, seeing that it was already night time with the shattered moon shining brightly. His attention was then caught by the smell of something burning along with the rather large smoke in the air that seemed to be coming from a familiar direction.

"Don't tell me" he muttered in fear as he quickly stood up and ran as fast as possible.

Dashing through the forest, he jumped over every log and snapped a few branches blocking his away before finally reaching his home.

No... - The sight in front of him had made Kent fall to his knees in defeat

Horrible, wouldn't come close as to what he was witnessing with his own eyes. In front of him, he saw his home engulfed with flames all around, along with the sight of a large group of masked-men, all wearing black, stacked upon each other.

Somehow, he managed to bring himself to stand up and approach his now burnt home, but... he was unprepared for what he soon saw next. The sight of both his parents... lifeless and wounds all over their body in front of their home's doorstep. The most horrendous sight was her mother's eyes slashed and a large wound right near his father's heart.

Powerless, all he could do was tightly hug his deceased parents. As tears flowed down like a river, he wailed loudly, grieving his parents' undeserved deaths with subtle blue sparks coming out of the young brunette's body.

He stayed with my parents for a while before finally deciding to get up and look for his sister, salvaging what he could from their home. He then spotted his mother's black robe unscathed, putting it on. He then found a picture frame shattered on the floor, picking up the picture and placing it in his pocket. While he was searching around the burned debris, his attention was caught by sudden coughing from behind the house.

Shuffling his feet frantically, he then proceeded to walk towards the noise with caution, holding a knife that he had found near the burnt sofa. In one-motion, he rushed out in the back prepared to attack, seeing the body of his homeroom teacher coughing out blood. He was sitting near the wall with a spear stabbed in his shoulder and the wall, immobilizing him.

"You… you killed my parents!" Quickly dashing towards the powerless 'teacher,' placing the knife right at his throat.

He couldn't think straight, as his frustration was getting the better of him. Nothing mattered anymore... he had lost his parents, and the person in front of him was probably the cause of it.

"What did you do! Where's my sister?!"

"Kent… It was the only way… I didn't want you to die as well…" The immobilized teacher struggled to talk, as he tried to muster up the energy he had left to reply to the boy, coughing in between his sentences.

"Lies!" Kent roared in anger as he pushed the knife closer to his neck.

"I didn't want to be saved! They were everything to me!" tears were once again falling from the brunette's face. "My family was everything to me! Did you kill my sister too?!"

"I… don't know… she… she ran… through there." Ace replied to Kent, slowly lifting his finger to point at the direction where Rayna had gone.

"Save her." He muttered weakly, as he used all the strength he had left, the teacher was now losing consciousness, staring at Kent's face, seeing his mother's image on his face.

Kent then released his grip on the knife, noticing Mr. Ace's pupils dilating, as he passed away. As much as the former hated what the teacher had done to him and his family, he was still the man who had watched and mentored him the past year.

The young brunette then used all the strength he had to remove the spear that was impaling Ace's shoulder. Shortly after, laying him down on the floor before closing his eyes. He then paid his respects before rushing towards the direction where the latter had last pointed.

As he was running, he could feel his weight getting lighter with his speed increasing with each step, seeing subtle sparks here and there. After what felt like a few minutes of running, he had eventually arrived at a scene where a battle must have taken place. Craters on the ground, trees cut into half and used bullets scattered everywhere.

After searching around the area, Kent soon noticed her sister's jacket a few meters away from the battle scene. It was ripped and was covered with a bit of blood, not much, but it was still somewhat visible.

Venturing deeper towards where more damage had been done to the forest, Kent stood frozen, seeing her sister's katana on the ground snapped in half as he went closer, slowly picking it up.

Standing with his sister's broken weapon in hand, instinctively Kent felt his body tense up, it felt as if he was being watched by someone or... something. Without moving a muscle, he looked around the forest, noticing crimson-red eyes from trees. The same red eyes he had been studying about in school.

As Kent stood still, still processing whether his sister was alive or not, he was surrounded by a pack of Grimm, walking close enough to identify that they were all Beowulfs. He had been letting fear and frustration take over him, which attracted the Grimm.

Without both his parents and sister by his side, he was all alone. Here he was a seven-year-old kid with a broken weapon forced to fend off a pack of Beowulf all by himself.

He knew... he alone had no chance in defeating all of them, as the feeling of powerless kicked in once again. Suddenly...

I've had enough - A surge of power instantly filled his body as he tightened his grip on his sister's broken weapon. he was done feeling helpless and not being able to protect those he had cared about.

As he stood up, his body was then engulfed with blue sparks once again, but this time they were more potent than before. He could feel the impulses of the electricity surging throughout his body before feeling immense pain in his left eye.

He groaned aloud from the pain, as it was too much to bear. Kent then grabbed it to try numbing the pain but to no avail, as the pain made him fall on his knees. With the pain taking a toll in his mind, the young brunette let out a loud shout, sending out a powerful shockwave that was quickly followed up by a blinding white light. Its power was enough to disintegrate each and every Grimm that surrounded him.

Sis... - his eyelids felt heavy, as he felt the strain of whatever it is he had just done. It wasn't long 'till he soon passed out on the ground from exhaustion.

-=O=-

~?~

It was bright, everything around him was engulfed by a bright light. It seemed as if there was no exit nor an entrance either, just a void of bright light.

Did... I die? - he asked himself as he walked and wandered around the bright void.

"Kent." A soft and familiar voice called out to him.

He quickly searched around to look for the source of that voice until he eventually locked eyes with a figure that was similar to his mother.

"Mom?"

"I'm sorry we had to leave you, dear. But it is not your time to join us yet." Anna said with a warm smile.

"Not the time? What happened? How are you here right now?" Kent asked with panic in his voice, as he slowly approached the figure.

"Your questions will find its answers soon, my child. For now, it is time for you to return." Anna said as her figure was slowly fading away while walking closer to Kent.

"Wait! Don't go! I-I still need you, mom-" he shouted before being stopped by his mother's bright figure who was embracing him tightly.

"You're strong, dear. You will help save this world."

Gasping himself awake, Kent shot his eyes wide open, standing up from where he was laying.

Where am I? - Looking around, he had found himself sitting in a bed inside a large tent.

"So, you're finally awake." A cold yet soft voice said. From the corner of the tent, a woman with long black hair and red eyes appeared.

"W-Who are you?" Kent asked, backing away from the mysterious woman wearing a shallow cut black and red dress with black shorts underneath.

"Relax, kid, I'm not gonna kill you. If I wanted to kill you, I wouldn't even bother bringing you here." The woman replied slowly walking towards the visibly shaken boy.

"What's your name?" she asked as she sat beside him.

"K-Kent. Kent Levin. And yours?" he asked, slightly looking up at her.

"Raven. Raven Branwen." She answered with a grin.

A/n: Well, that took was a quick 180 in the middle. Sorry for not much action here, wanted a more story-oriented chapter. The action will come back in the next chapter! Regardless, I hope y'all still enjoyed it. Any feedback is appreciated as I'm still a fairly new writer. I also would be glad to hear any suggestions or inputs from you all!
