A/n: Hey! So, hopefully this would live up to your expectations. It's the whole gang's first day at Beacon. This chapter will finally give a clue to the team of Kent. So, without further ado, I hope you enjoy!
Chapter 5: Welcome to Beacon
"Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!"
"Sis, Calm down! It's not a big deal."
In the middle of Yang and Ruby's conversation, Ruby was currently berating herself as she had just realized that she hadn't thanked the man who saved her.
From what Ruby had recalled, everything had happened in a flash. With her being saved twice, a huntress joining in, and a bad guy escaping. It was all too fast for Ruby to process, but was she still awestruck at the awesomeness of both Kent and Professor… Glynda? – if she remembers correctly.
"I'm gonna die from embarrassment, Yang!" Ruby exclaimed as she was hanging on to her yellow-haired sister.
"Sheesh, calm down already." Yang simply replied before pushing Ruby's face away from her chest. She then pointed at a familiar black-robed man – Kent, who was standing in front of the airship, enjoying the view. "He's right there. You'll have plenty of chances to thank him."
Ruby stared at where her sister had pointed, relieved yet still embarrassed that Kent was going to be in Beacon Academy as well. "Y-yeah… y-you're right."
With that, the two sisters had regained their composure as Ruby's outburst had caused some of the other passengers to stare at them. Yang playfully whistled as she dragged her sister away from the crowd.
The pair spent the rest of their trip chatting about how she got into Beacon while reminiscing their memories of Signal and Patch. During their conversation, they occasionally glanced at some of the passengers in the airship with them.
One of the passengers they noticed opposite of them was a female Faunus, who had panda ears alternated black and white on both sides and had crimson red eyes. She seemed to be trying to keep herself awake as her head kept bobbing back and forth with her eyes half-opened.
Her hair and eyebrows were evenly split between two colors: white on her left-side and black on her right-side. She had fairly white skin, clad in a white-top combat skirt with the skirt tainted black covering her knees, which were sporting a pair of black stockings and white boots. Her look was paired with light-red gloves with black bands tying it down. Her outfit was topped with an extended collar covering her shoulders and the upper areas of her chest, embedded with a panda emblem near her neck. She finished her look, with a fairly-sized pouch placed on her side, and a little red ribbon opposite of it.
"Yang is she… floating while sleeping, right now?" Ruby whispered softly as they stared at the sleeping panda Faunus. "I think so. Wait… why is that dagger floating?" Yang quickly walked off with Ruby letting out a brief 'eep' as she quickly followed suit.
Another passenger, well passengers they had noticed, were a young man and woman. They seemed to have identical facial features along with their crimson-red hair and dark green eyes. The pair's clothes were nearly identical as well, with the only difference is the man had worn fitted black pants compared to the woman's black shorts. Their weapons were different as well, with the man having a bronze with a red-taint longsword sheathed at his back, while the woman had a shield and a spear-like weapon of sorts.
"Do you think… they're the same person?" Ruby whispered much softer as she tried not to be heard, unlike earlier. "Probably, but I think they're twins."
"Twins?! Wait… aren't twins supposed to be the same, I dunno gender?" Ruby unconsciously spoke louder than she had intended, enough for the twins to hear.
"Actually, we're fraternal twins." The muscular young man spoke with a gentle-tone as he rubbed his neck.
"Hello! Nice to meet you!" The fairly muscular woman added with a broad smile, as she was waving her hand at the two.
The two sisters shared a look and had silently agreed that the two were unique. Their attention was then caught by the hologram of a familiar blonde-haired woman – Professor Goodwitch, who gave a welcome speech to all the passengers aboard. Shortly after her address, the hologram had disappeared. The room was now engulfed by the sound of the news from the tv speaking of last week's robbery by Roman Torchwick.
Ugh, Him. – Ruby clenched her fist tightly as she bit her lip, remembering how she had been to slow to stop that man from escaping. Had it not been for Kent, she would've been a much worse shape.
Yang obviously saw her sister's frustration, rubbing her back to comfort the red-hooded girl. She then grabbed Ruby by her shoulders, turning the girl towards her. Which caused Ruby to loosen up as her sister leaned close to meet her silver eyes. "We'll get him next time, Okay?" Ruby responded with a warm smile, with Yang giving a wink as she playfully messed her sister's hair.
The rest of the trip was close to being ruined if Kent hadn't helped out the blonde guy who was having motion sickness. Thank goodness… - Ruby sighed as she was also quite worried about the blonde throwing up in the ship. Luckily, it wasn't long 'till the group had caught sight of Beacon Academy.
The airship landed, all of the passengers quickly disembarked, forming into their own groups as they walked towards inside Beacon.
Inside, awaited them was a sight to behold. A large courtyard had pillars decorated uniquely, with some ponds having fishes in them and a giant statue in the middle as banners led the way to the entrance. The main attraction was the campus itself; it had a large tower in the middle with the rest of the school designed like a castle.
"The view from Vale's got nothing on this!" Yang crossed her arms, taking in the sight in front of her.
Yang adored the view, but Ruby seemed to be more interested in the weapons of the passing huntsmen and huntresses.
Ruby was a full-on weapon enthusiast, as she had been more comfortable handling weapons than dealing with people. And she was also the one who had made her weapon, Crescent Rose a high-caliber sniper rifle and scythe, all by herself.
Yang then brought on a topic about how she should make new friends. Seeing that they're in a new environment, it would be a big opportunity to meet all sorts of people. For Yang – Ruby donned a sad look as she started.
Compared to her sister, Yang was outgoing and confident, whether in battle or in school. Meanwhile, Ruby, on the other hand, wasn't necessarily bad at talking to people. She's just way, way more confident when the conversation is about weapons and semblances or when she lets her combat skills do the talking for her.
Plus, Yang's here anyway. Why does she need to make new friends? Yeah, what does she need to be worried about?
"Well… actually, my friends are here now. Gotta go catch up. Kay, c'ya, bye."
Yang, with her friends, quickly zoomed past Ruby. A few of Yang's friends had unintentionally bumped into the latter, making her spin, dazing the red-hooded girl.
"Wait! Where are you going? Are we supposed to go to our dorms? Where are our dorms? …Do we have dorms?"
"I don't know what I'm doing…" Ruby stopped spinning, but her dizziness caused her to fall backward.
"What are you doing?!" A white-haired girl asked harshly with an annoyed-tone.
"Sorry," Ruby spoke softly and was quite embarrassed with herself.
"Sorry? Do you have any idea how much damage you could've caused?"
Ruby had accidentally fallen back into someone's luggage. The luggage contained an assortment of dust inside glass tubes, which the white-haired girl showed.
The white-haired young woman was pale-skinned with pale blue eyes and long white hair, pulled back into an off-center ponytail on the right side, and pinned with a silver, icicle-shaped tiara. She donned a thigh-length strapless dress with a faint color gradation from white to pale blue at the hem. A small piece of black lace sits in the front of her neckline, and the hem of the dress is scalloped and stitched to resemble snowflakes, with layers of white tulle under the skirt. On top, she wears a bell-sleeved bolero with the same color gradation as her dress from shoulder to wrist, lined in red and with a ruffled collar. Along with her weapon, Myrtenaster, a rapier with a revolver-like chamber for dust, sheathed at her hip.
She was furious as Ruby's clumsiness could've ruined all of her belongings. It wasn't long until she started scolding the red-cloaked girl, shaking one of the tubes near her face.
Some of the dust managed to seep out as it had entered Ruby's nose, causing her to sneeze. It was immediately followed by an explosion, with both her and Weiss caught in the middle of it all.
Somewhere near Ruby, Norman and Kent had gotten lost around campus shortly after parting ways with the blonde young man Kent had helped earlier in the airship – Jaune Arc.
"This place is like one of those big carnival mazes we went to in Vacuo!"
"I think that's an understatement compared to this place…"
Their conversation was suddenly interrupted as they heard a loud boom nearby. For Norman, he thought of two possibilities; it was either something else or someone… Kent.
"What?" Kent asked with a confused look as Norman stared at him with narrowed eyes.
"Did you…?" Norman raised his arm slightly, pointing at the black-cloaked brunette.
"Seriously? Do you see an overcast above?" Kent answered with an unamused face, pointing his finger towards the light-blue sky filled with white clouds.
"Fair enough." Norman rubbed his chin before chuckling at his brother.
"Sometimes, I'm thankful for having a brother like you, other times…" Kent slumped his body slightly forward, sighing in disbelief at his brother's idea.
"Come on, you know you love me." Norman grinned, putting his arm around the brunette.
"Yeah, yeah. That aside, we should check it out. I mean it is pretty-"
"Oh? If it isn't the lightning child himself." A familiar voice interrupted.
I sense… flames. - Kent knew that voice all too well, it was gentle yet condescending. Even without turning around, he knew it was none other than him.
"Ah, it's been a while, Hot-head," Kent replied as he turned to face the voice. In front of him stood a red-headed young man with dark-green eyes – Phoenix Nikos.
Kent had met Phoenix through one of his tournaments, where he had been crowned champion as the former defeated the latter in a heated battle. Since then, Phoenix and Kent, though not agreed verbally, have seen each other as rivals, alternating victories with each tournament they clashed.
Phoenix had been one of the only few that have defeated him in combat. He also has a twin sister. Both are considered to be the strongest, along with being the most popular huntsman and huntress-in-training in Mistral. Like Kent, he also had the same capability to also wield a rare elemental semblance, Fire. Thus, started a heated rivalry between a blazing Fire and a thunderous Lightning.
"Yeah, it has been too long." A grin formed in Phoenix's face as he and Kent stared at each other's eyes.
Norman, who was in the side, just spectating the sight in front of him. The rivals didn't move an inch, and he swore that he saw a red and blue figure clash along with sparks collide with their stares.
Their stare-down was put to a halt, as a gentle female voice called out to the red-headed guy.
"Phoenix! Come on, we're going to be la-…" A fairly-muscular female who was an exact copy of Phoenix appeared. "My, Kent! How are you? Have you gotten stronger again?"
"Mornin' Pyrrha. Hahaha, you know it. Seems you're looking lively and lovely as ever." Kent gave a warm smile and wink to the green-eyed, red-headed girl – Pyrrha Nikos.
"Oh, stop you. Still charming as I remember." The red-headed girl replied with her own smile as a slight blush appeared in her face.
During one Kent's missions at Mistral, he had accidentally run into Pyrrha, who was training near him. Kent's mission was a simple recon mission that Qrow asked of him. Unexpectedly, he was ambushed by a large pack of Grimm, and that's where Pyrrha came in. Though Kent could've easily handled them, he was taken aback, amazed at the skill of combat the crimson-haired huntress displayed.
She was a powerful huntress and was reasonably popular too in Mistral, along with her twin brother. As the pair spent more time together, it wasn't long until Kent and Pyrrha started to take an interest in one another but never really became an item. Still, the pair had remained as good friends over the years.
"Well, we have to take our leave. The opening ceremony will start soon. It would be held in the auditorium, just right of the statue. See ya, there."
The Nikos twins took their leave. The elder sister waved goodbye to the pair, dragging the younger, much to his annoyance, maintaining his cold glare at the brunette.
"Well, they were way more unique in person, compared to when I watch them." Norman scratched the top of his head, still taking in what had just happened. "That's funny coming from you." Kent chuckled, receiving a pout from his purple-haired brother.
Unbeknownst to the two, they were being watched and followed. The pair continued their conversation, deciding to walk towards where they last heard the explosion.
This is the worst day ever –Ruby had decided. She was now lying on the floor, after she had just finished her argument with the white-haired heiress of Schnee Dust Company, the largest producer of dust in Remnant – Weiss Schnee. That's what she had learned when a black-haired girl with amber eyes, who had a bow, joined in on their argument.
Shortly after joining, the black-haired girl had angered Weiss, giving subtle insults towards the heiress's company. Weiss then left with a huff as she walked angrily towards the campus. Ruby then tried to talk to the amber-eyed girl, but she had already left as well.
So, here she was now on the ground, already making an enemy on her first day. Well, this day could've gone better than I hoped.
"Welcome to Beacon," Ruby muttered to herself, closing her eyes for a bit.
"Hmm…" "You think she's asleep?" "Or dead?"
Ruby opened her eyes to see a familiar pair of sky-blue orbs and brown-hair. Beside him was another guy with purple eyes and pinkish-purple hair, along with a pair of crimson eyes, black and white hair, and panda ears. "…Kent?"
"GAAH!" Norman shrieked, surprised by a panda Faunus' appearance. "She looks familiar…" Kent added, rubbing his chin as he stared at the Faunus in front of him, unfazed with his brother's scream.
"Sheesh… does nothing faze you?!" Eyeing his brother with an unamused look, before catching a glimpse at the corner of his eye, the crimson-eyed panda getting into a stance to do something. "…Hmm?"
"KENT!" the crimson-eyed girl shouted, activating her psychokinetic semblance to make her float. She then flew towards the brunette with blazing speed, giving him a bear hug. Kent, unsurprisingly, wasn't prepared. As soon as the former latched on him, he let out a brief 'ack' from the sheer force of her tackle.
"Hehe, didn't know you'll attend Beacon Academy too. Rae." Kent stated as he patted the panda Faunus – Rae's head, caressing her locks. "Why wouldn't I? I get to spend time with you!" Rae cheerfully replied, still holding on to the brunette.
Unlike Pyrrha, Kent had run into Rae while he was training near the outskirts of Patch. Unknowingly, the brunette had stumbled across a Faunus village, filled with a wide array of different breeds. He stayed for a while, as he enjoyed the sight of happy children running around playing, along with the cheerful workers of the village.
As the black-cloaked boy was about to leave, he was quickly alerted by the screams of the once cheerful children as panic filled their faces. The village was being ransacked by an unusually large group of bandits. With Kent being unable to bear to let any more damage happen, he quickly joined the fray.
Luckily, Kent's approach hadn't been noticed by the bandits, skillfully subduing bandits blocking his way. His attention was then caught by the sight of a panda Faunus, who seemed to be the same age as him, wielding sharp knives floating and handling a few bandits on her own. Together alongside the Faunus, they had easily beaten the bandits, scaring off the uninjured, leaving with their tails between their legs.
The residents of the village had given their regards. They thanked him for saving their town, along with the panda Faunus sticking close to him all throughout. She later introduced herself as Rae Moriko. They soon became close, as Kent would regularly visit the village to spend time with Rae and the other residents when he had the opportunity to do so.
"Alright, Rae. We can spend as much time as you want, but um… can you get off me? I can't breathe…" Kent replied weakly, as Rae had progressively tightened her hug.
"Oops, sorry. Hehe, habit." Letting her grip go, sharing a laugh with each other.
"Umm… you guys, okay?" Ruby asked who had a confused look on her face, alongside Norman, who also shared the same look.
"Oh, yeah. Hey, Red." Kent then gave her his signature smile, approaching her slowly.
Huh? – Ruby didn't know why, but she found herself blushing again at the brunette's smile, feeling her heart beat faster and faster each second as he got closer.
"That reminds me, congrats on making it to Beacon. Ruby."
O' God, o' god… - Kent's words had engulfed her thoughts as it played in a loop, before suddenly feeling a warm touch on her head. "Eep!"
"Hmm? You okay, Ruby? Your head feels hot… and your face is-"
"I-I'm f-fine, r-really!" She quickly replied, not allowing Kent to finish. Great! You just embarrassed yourself, Ruby Rose!
Kent quirked his eyebrows, visibly confused with Ruby's unusual actions, looking at the two beside them for answers; The pair just replied with a shrug, not knowing what to say. He again turned his attention back towards the red-cloaked girl, "If you say so. Well, shall we head on to the ceremony?"
"R-Right!" she stuttered. Ugh… can't this day get any worse?
"So that's what happened? Wow." Norman replied to the silver-eyed girl.
The group was walking towards the auditorium, where the opening ceremony would be held. As they continued their walk, Ruby told Rae and Norman how she was saved by Kent, her meeting both Professor Goodwitch and Ozpin, and how she got into Beacon Academy.
"Ooh! You must be very skilled if you were able to amaze Kent!" Rae added excitingly. "Say, say, you wanna fight? I wanna see how strong you are. So, so?"
"Um… Sure?" Ruby answered hesitantly at the energetic panda. She must be strong if Kent personally trained her. I wonder… what it's like training with him.
Wait, what am I even thinking about? – She stared at the ground with a conflicted look. "Something on your mind, Ruby?"
Her attention was then caught by Kent's voice as she looked up to meet his worried face. Oh no, was it that obvious? Did I worry him? Quick Ruby, answer. Quick!
"N-Nothing. Just thinking about how excited I am to attend Beacon. That's all." Surprisingly, she had managed to answer Kent better, compared to earlier.
Kent knew there was something wrong with Ruby, but didn't push on further, seeing that it was uncomfortable for her to talk about. He gently patted Ruby's shoulder, giving her another smile. "Let's do our best, Red."
Ruby couldn't hold herself back, as her silver eyes widened at Kent's smile, making her cheeks turn red once again. "Y-yeah."
"Ruby! Over here! I saved you a spot!" Yang shouted at the red-cloaked girl.
Yang, thank goodness – They had finally entered the auditorium, where groups of people awaited Professor Ozpin's speech. "Oh, hey, I gotta go. See ya, guys, after the ceremony!"
"Sure thing," Kent replied, walking towards the other direction alongside Norman. Rae followed Ruby but quickly decided to stay at the back of the crowd to catch some sleep. She floated once again, as she slowly drifted off to sleep.
"She really is like a panda…" Yang muttered before turning towards her sister. "So, how's your first day going, little sister?" She cheerfully asked with her hands in her waist.
"You mean since you ditched me and I exploded? And, and I embarrassed myself in front of Kent and his friends… or was it his family…"
"Yikes, meltdown already?"
"No, I mean… yes! Wait, ugh… I don't know anymore. All I know is that I felt like I was burning up, then there was some fire, and I think some Ice…"
"Are you being sarcastic?"
"I wish! I tripped over a crabby girl's luggage, and she started yelling at me, and then I sneeze and then exploded, and then Kent came, and then I embarrassed myself in front of him. Ugh… why couldn't I just have a normal day, Yang!"
Unbeknownst to the siblings, the same white-haired heiress Ruby was talking about, had been eavesdropping on their conversation. Appearing behind the red-cloaked girl as she yelled at her once more.
Surprised, Ruby shrieked as she jumped on her sister's arms, carrying her bridal style. The three shared a conversation as Ruby stood up again. Yang was trying to help mediate the pair's shaky relationship, to no avail. Weiss's blunt attitude had once again overwhelmed Ruby. As the latter's attempt at apologizing, being met with a cold shoulder and a huff from the former.
Suddenly, everyone's attention in the auditorium was caught by a man clearing his throat. Stood in front of them, was the same man Ruby had met the night she dealt with a few crooks – Professor Ozpin.
"I'll keep this brief." Professor Ozpin stated as he continued on with his speech. The highly-respected professor had addressed the crowd with an ominous speech, speaking with confidence as he eyed each and every huntsmen and huntresses in the venue.
Professor Ozpin's speech was shortly followed by Professor Glynda's instructions. "You will gather at the ballroom tonight. Tomorrow your initiation begins. Be ready. You are dismissed."
Ruby, along with the rest of the students, followed what the professor had instructed. Setting out towards the ballroom to rest and prepare for the initiation the following morning.
"It's like a big slumber party!" Yang cheerfully spoke as she laid down beside Ruby, who seemed to be busy writing something. "I don't think dad will approve of all the boys, though."
"I know I do." The blonde-haired woman purred at the sight of shirtless young men in front of her. Jaune Arc soon appeared wearing a blue onesie, making the former's face change to one of disgust. "Speaking of shirtless men, I wanted to see theirs too…"
"You say something, Yang?"
"N-Nothing! Wait, what's that?" Yang asked as she looked at Ruby's journal.
The two shared a conversation as Ruby talked about her friends back in Signal before the topic went back to how both their days went.
"You know, since that night… you've been talking about Kent a lot lately." Yang pointed out. Clearly, what she said had an effect on her sister, seeing the latter's face turn bright red. "Ooh, has my innocent little sister finally taken a liking to someone?"
"W-what? L-L-Like?! No! It's not like-" Ruby's reply was cut short after an explosion nearby was heard, catching everyone's attention.
The explosion seemed to have happened at the front entrance of the ballroom. Ruby and Yang, along with everyone, quickly rushed towards the noise, unsure of what to expect.
The air was filled with a big dust cloud, making it hard to see what was happening. But a voice was soon heard from within the dust, "Okay, I think that's quite enough."
That voice… - Ruby tilted her head slightly at the sight in front of her as the dust settled.
The dust had finally cleared, revealing two muscular shirtless young men and one brunette. One had red-hair with green eyes – Phoenix Nikos and the other had pinkish-purple hair and purple eyes – Norman Lee. It seemed that the two shirtless men were covered with minor injuries. At the same time, Kent stood in between them, holding on both of their fists with his hands, sparking with electricity.
"Don't you think you've had enough fun for today? Norman. Phoenix." Kent donned a serious look on his face, slightly intimidating the two.
It seemed Kent's intervention was enough to convince the two to call their fight off for the night.
Woah… - From the crowd, Ruby watched as she felt her heart skip a beat seeing the brunette, as she was reminded of just how strong Kent really was.
