The next day, Sam and Dean walked into the station only to be greeted by Sheriff Mills.
"Jody! It's so good to see you again," Sam said while leaning in to give her a hug.
"Wish I could say the same." Both Sam and Dean exchanged confused looks. Jody sighed and explained, "If you're here, then it means that monsters are here too… and that never ends well."
"If it makes you feel better, we're here to save the town, not to have more people hurt," Dean answered cockily, giving them a smug smile.
Sam walked up to one of the other police officers and asked politely, "Agent Freely, this is my partner Agent Jones. We're here about the 'nightmare' attack. Could we speak to the victims?" As they normally did, they held up their fake IDs.
Dean couldn't help but to remember his best friend's first hunt when he had held the FBI badge upside down. He felt guilty for leaving Cas in Purgatory.
"Yeah, sure. Their names are Katy Ferris and Alex Smith. They're both in the hospital right now, but you can go see if they are awake," the officer replied, handing them a piece of paper with two names on them along with their addresses.
They turned away from the officer and headed out of the station. "I'll talk to Katy Ferris. You go talk to Alex Smith," Sam told Dean as they exited the building.
When they arrived at the hospital, Sam and Dean went their separate ways to speak to each of the victims.
"Katy Ferris?" Sam asked as he knocked before entering the hospital room. Next to the bed was a blonde woman, who Sam assumed was the girl's mother.
Katy was a child looking about 12 or 13. She had what looked like very severe cat scratches all over her.
Sam asked the child politely, "Can you tell me what happened?"
"I've already told the police."
"Yeah, well, I'm not the police."
"You won't believe me. Nobody does."
"I've seen a lot of weird things. Try me."
Katy responded trying to hold back tears, "A nightmare I often have is of my cat attacking me. I have no siblings and don't have any friends at school. My cat is the only friend I have ever known. I was in bed, and she was sat calmly next to me like she does every night. Then suddenly, she starts attacking me. I could have sworn that her eyes flashed gold, but it was probably just a trick of the light."
"Ok. That's all I need. Thank you for your time." Sam headed out of the room to talk to the mother.
"When did you find her?" Sam asked the worried woman.
"I was asleep, then I heard Katy scream, so I ran to her room like any mother would. When I got there, her cat just stared at me and her eyes flashed gold. Katy was unconscious and then I called 911. That's basically it."
"What did you do with the cat?"
"I locked her in Katy's room. I couldn't hurt her. She was Katy's only friend."
"I'm going to go see the cat if that's alright with you Ms Ferris?" She nodded then Sam left the hospital and called Dean.
(Meanwhile)
"FBI. Could I talk to your sister?" Dean asked the boy, showing him his badge. He nodded and said, "Ok. So, Alex, what can you tell me about what happened?"
"What happened was my nightmare coming true! It's crazy!"
"Ok. What was your nightmare?"
"It doesn't matter. Only little kids get these nightmares."
"It does matter. It's ok, I won't judge you."
"I-I was walking upstairs to my room, which for some reason, started to get cold, when some crazy guy with gold eyes wearing a clown costume jumped in front of me and started stabbing me with needles!"
"It's fine. My partner who is 30, still has nightmares about clowns," Dean replied reassuringly, patting the young blonde's arm. "Anyway, thank you. I must get going now."
Just as Dean was leaving the room, his phone rang. It was Sam.
"Hey Sam. What did you find?"
"Not much. But she said that the cat's eyes flashed gold."
"Yeah, Alex said that a clown attacked her with needles. And guess what? His eyes were gold as well. She also said that the room went cold. Ghost maybe?"
"No. I checked for EMF. I'm going to 73 Greens Road to see the cat that attacked Katy. Meet me there."
"Sure. Will do. Bye."
Dean hung up and made his way there.
