A/N: Hi! I hope you still like it. Thanks for your reviews. Sadly, I'm running out of ideas for this story, so if you have any, please share. Thanks!
The whole room was loud with laughter and chatting. Kurt was talking to Trent about the newest issue of Vogue, when Wes entered the common room holding a paper in his hands. It got everyone's attention. Every pair of eyes turned to the Asian boy as he sat down heavily on the leather armchair.
The nervous energy was evident in the air and almost everyone had hopeful smiles on their faces. "Okay," Wes began looking at the paper. "Everyone who is willing to audition for a solo can do that on Friday, right David?"
The black-skinned boy nodded. They shared a knowing look making Kurt watch their next moves curiously. Wes turned his eyes to the back of the room and Kurt followed his gaze. On one of the couches, completely alone was sitting Sebastian Smythe. The boy didn't seem interested at all as he was focused on his cell phone.
"Sebastian? Could you spare us a bit of your precious time?" The green-eyed boy looked up at the Asian boy, clearly surprised that Wes was saying something to him. Usually, most of the Warblers were cold and distant towards him. "Thank you. The audition is completely voluntary, but I can't see your name on the list, and we were wondering if maybe you would like to audition? We hardly even hear you sing anymore."
Sebastian's gaze travelled through the room. Kurt did the same and saw that the majority of the boys in the room weren't too happy about Wes' proposition. "No, thanks." Sebastian eventually said turning his gaze back to the phone.
Wes looked once again at David. The other boy just shrugged his shoulders and mouthed 'he's insane'. The Asian boy glanced around the room and spoke up. "Okay, then. Does anyone have any questions?" The room remained silent. "Let's do the warm-ups and practice some songs then."
Kurt kept an eye on Sebastian's throughout the practice. It was clear that the taller boy didn't have a heart to singing nor dancing anymore. He looked tired and resigned. Kurt understood why he was like this; he probably didn't have the easiest life now, since he had to live knowing that he had broken someone's heart.
But it didn't make all of his faults magically disappear. All of this was Sebastian's only fault, and even though Kurt knew that, he couldn't make himself hate the boy.
Kurt even considered talking to him, but then he remembered their last confrontation and decided to let it go for now. Sebastian's self-hatred wasn't Kurt's concern after all. He still had friends, right? Zack was his roommate so he should be able to talk so sense into him. Besides Kurt believed that all Sebastian had to do to gain Blaine's forgiveness was to simply apologize to him for his behavior.
Kurt chuckled to himself as he sat on the couch during the short break. He should be happy that Sebastian didn't want to talk to Blaine at all, but Kurt knew that Blaine needed this conversation. Also he trusted Blaine and believed that he wasn't just a rebound.
When the practice ended Kurt picked up his things and went to the library to do the homework in peace. He had learned a long time ago that in order to concentrate he had to leave his dorm and find some other place to study.
Kurt chose the furthest spot in the library, so that he could hide from the creepy old lady and quickly took his cell phone out of his pocket. He dialed the familiar number grinning at Blaine's picture in the contacts and held the phone close to his ear.
"Hey," He heard Blaine's voice after a couple of seconds. It had been two weeks since Blaine started attending McKinley. They hadn't had the chance to see each other since then and Kurt could sense something weird in his boyfriend's voice, but the other boy kept saying that it was nothing. "How are you?"
"Okay, I guess." Kurt whispered to the phone staring down at his math homework. "But you know that I'm not calling you to talk about myself. Better tell me how you are."
Blaine sighed audibly. "Nothing dangerous or life-threatening has happened to me since the last time you called, which was, if I remember correctly, yesterday."
"You can't blame me for being worried." Kurt said playing with the pen in his hand. "I just want to know if you're safe."
"I am." Blaine assured him. "So...tomorrow is my doctor appointment..."
"Yes, I remember." Kurt said smiling softly. "I'm picking you up at 5."
"You really don't have to come if you don't want to."
"I know." Kurt said. "But I want to, so I'm going. It's not easy to get rid of Kurt Hummel."
Blaine laughed. "Anyway, you're in the library, right? I barely can hear you."
"Sorry about that." Kurt whispered. "But my dorm is occupied by two biggest blabbers, so you should blame Nick and Jeff for that."
"Yeah, they can be a little...difficult sometimes."
"To put it mildly." Kurt said lowering slightly his voice, when he noticed that the librarian stood up from her chair and started pacing the room back and forth. "Ugh, I have to go back to studying, if I don't want a detention for disturbing the silence. See you tomorrow."
"See you."
Kurt finished the phone call and shoved his phone into his pants pocket.
An hour later Kurt finished his homework and packed his books into his bag. He excited the library saying goodbye to the woman behind the desk. She didn't even spare him a glance, but Kurt didn't care. He walked through the school with a smile attached to his face since he was in a rather good mood today.
He stopped in front of the door to his dorm and turned the doorknob. As soon as the door swung open, Kurt froze. His dorm was not only occupied by his two roommates, but also by every single one of the Warblers. Well, apart from Sebastian. "What the hell is going on?" He asked closing the door behind himself.
"Finally." Jeff said ignoring Kurt's question. "We've been here for hours waiting only for you."
"It hasn't been that long, Jeff." Thad said.
"Can someone explain to me why everyone is here?" Kurt asked looking for an empty spot to sit. The three beds were occupied as well as most of the floor and basically any free spot in the room.
"I was just getting to that. Wes?" Jeff said looking at the Asian boy.
"It's a secret Warblers' meeting." Wes said conspiratorially.
Kurt closed his eyes massaging his temples. His good mood was gone. There was nothing wrong with the Warblers being here, but he just wanted to take a nap since he had woken up early to study for the English exam. "I just have two questions. One, why is it held in our room? And second, how can it be secret if everyone knows about it?"
"Our room is the biggest." Jeff said. "Also not everyone is here. Sebastian's not."
"Exactly." Wes said. "We have come to a conclusion that Sebastian is not devoted to the group anymore and he can easily bring us down if we don't do anything about it."
"Who do you mean by we?" Kurt asked crossing his arms over his chest.
"The council." Wes said. "Let's face the truth, guys. He's in no shape to perform at Reginals. We need to let him pull his shit together in peace. Okay, let's vote. Who's for Sebastian leaving the Warblers?" Everyone apart from Kurt raised their hands. Wes eyed Kurt suspiciously, but didn't say anything. "And who does think that letting Sebastian stay is a better idea?" Kurt raised his hand.
"So it's decided." Wes said. "You can all go." All the Warblers except for Kurt, Nick, Jeff, David and Wes excited the room leaving the five boys alone.
"I don't get you, man." Jeff said lying down on his bed. "You are supposed to hate the guy."
"Clearly, I don't." Kurt said sitting heavily on the bed. "Don't get me wrong, we're far from friends, but he's just lost. I know it's his entire fault, but maybe he deserves some kind of understanding."
"Sure." Wes said. "Then go and be his shoulder to cry on. I bet Blaine would be over the moon knowing that you care so much about his ex-boyfriend."
Kurt sighed. "Why is it so bad that I want to understand his behavior and maybe offer some help?"
"Maybe because he knocked up and left your boyfriend? I guess that's a pretty good reason." Wes said standing up from the desk chair. He walked over to Kurt and looked him directly in the eyes. "I don't even want to look at you anymore, you hypocrite."
Wes turned to leave, but Kurt wasn't done with him yet. "I'm not a hypocrite."
"Yeah?" Wes turned around and put his hands on his hips. "Seems to me that you're suddenly on his side and only a couple of weeks ago you would have done everything to mess up his face." Kurt opened his mouth to argue, but Wes kept talking. "Oh, wait! You did that."
Kurt closed his eyes sighing. "Just go. I don't feel like talking to you anymore." Wes did just that shutting the door loudly. He was quickly followed by David who sent him an apologetic glance leaving the room.
Kurt wiped away the sweat from his forehead and groaned loudly. Then he felt a hand on his shoulder, so he lifted his gaze and saw that the hand belonged to Nick. "Do you think I am a bad person?"
"Of course not." Nick said sitting down next to him. He wrapped his arm around the blue-eyed boy's shoulder. "Sometimes you just care too much about others. As much as it may seem that he doesn't anybody to talk to, Sebastian's not completely alone. Zack and Ryan are there for him. Don't forget that. We just have to patiently wait for him to find his balls. No one can do that for him."
"I know." Kurt said. "It's just painful to look at him. I can see how he's slowly slipping away." Kurt winced at his own words. He turned his eyes to Nick. "Do you think he might...do something?"
It took Nick some time to realize what the other boy was talking about, but then he just shook his head. "He wouldn't go that far. Sebastian's not like that. He just doesn't want others to see that he's only a human. We need to give him some time."
"And meantime," Jeff added sitting on the other side of Kurt. "Don't beat yourself up and focus on something else. Your hot boyfriend for example."
"How many times do I have to remind you that you're straight?" Nick asked rolling his eyes.
"Who said that?"
"You." Nick shook his head hiding a smile.
"I like girls, but that doesn't stop me from finding really hot guys attractive or..." He raised his eyebrows suggestively. "Experiencing." He licked Kurt's cheek scaring the hell out of him. He squealed like a girl and pushed Jeff away.
Nick laughed loudly almost falling off the bed. "You seriously have no limits." He said wiping away Jeff's saliva from his cheek. "This is disgusting!"
Jeff laughed. "Oh, come on! You must have done worse things with Blaine." He paused for a moment. Then his eyes widened. "Nick! We have yet to see them kiss!"
"I don't think I want to see that, Jeff." Nick said breathing heavily from laughing so hard.
All the anger, frustration and confusion were out of his system and Kurt felt good. A little tired, but good. He sat down on the bed and watched with a soft smile as his two friends argued with each other occasionally hitting themselves with a pillow.
"And then he licked my cheek. My cheek, Blaine!" Kurt exclaimed keeping his eyes focused on the road.
Blaine giggled. "Should I be jealous?"
"God, no." Kurt said. "He's too weird."
Kurt glanced at Blaine expecting to see a wide smile on his face, but all he was able to see were his shaking hands. He covered one of Blaine's hands with his own and squeezed it tightly. "What's wrong?"
Blaine shrugged. "I'm kind of nervous, I guess."
"Is that all?" Kurt asked raising one of his eyebrows.
The hazel-eyed boy sighed. "Well, no."
"Elaborate."
Another sigh left Blaine's mouth. "Two weeks ago I talked to my mother. She said that I should give the baby up for adoption and I'm almost positive that it's not something that I want to do."
"Then what do you want to do?" Kurt asked already knowing the answer.
"I want to keep the baby."
A silence filled the car. Kurt didn't know how to comfort his boyfriend. He kept saying that he would be always there for Blaine to listen to him, to let him cry on his shoulder, which was true of course, but the problem was that as much as he wanted to help him, say something wise, he didn't know how to do it, because he had no idea what Blaine was going through.
"And I don't know what to do." Blaine continued after a couple of minutes. "My parents claim that they don't want anything to hold me back, but how can you say something like that about an innocent, little baby? I don't expect my life to be easy, but...I think that with some help I can do that."
"Of course you can." Kurt said. "As long as you believe in yourself and really want that."
They drove in silence for a couple of minutes, until Blaine whispered, almost inaudibly. "I do."
The hospital came into his view and Kurt parked his Navigator in front of the building. He got out of the car and opened the door for Blaine. The shorter boy smiled softly at him and together they walked towards the entrance. The receptionist directed them to the waiting room and they sat down on the uncomfortable, plastic chairs.
Next to them was sitting a couple. The twenty-something man took the woman's hand and kissed her cheek. He put his other hand on her huge baby bump and smiled widely.
Kurt looked at Blaine and noticed that his gaze was fixed on the happy couple. The blue-eyed boy took his hand receiving a shy smile. A couple of minutes later a young nurse came from the office with a clipboard. She looked around the room and her gaze landed on Kurt and Blaine as she said. "Blaine Anderson."
Blaine rose from his seat pulling Kurt up with him. "That's me."
"Follow me." The nurse said disappearing into the office. Blaine followed her into the room tugging Kurt along. He didn't want to admit it to Blaine, but he really didn't like all these sterile white walls, plastic chairs and a horrible smell of chemicals. Most of the time all he could imagine was his mother lying lifelessly in a bed and her cold hand in his warm one. There was also a memory of his dad being in coma which wasn't pleasant either, but Kurt did his best not to show any of these emotions as he watched Blaine being weighed.
The nurse asked Blaine a couple of basic question about his well-being and any unwanted side-effects of pregnancy. Blaine answered every question with a smile on his face, which made Kurt's heart skip a bit. He could see that Blaine really wanted this baby.
The friendly nurse said that they had to wait for Blaine's doctor for a couple of seconds and then left the office. Blaine sat down on the chair beside Kurt and grabbed his hand. Kurt looked at him and somehow even with a small smile playing on his lips, he looked kind of sad.
However before Kurt had a chance to ask him about it, a short dark-hired woman entered the office. "Hello, there." She said walking over to where they were sitting. "It's nice to see you again, Blaine." She said shaking Blaine's hand.
"Likewise." Blaine said showing her one of his famous charming smiles, which Kurt loved so much.
Then the doctor looked at Kurt and smiled widely. "Oh, you must be a baby daddy. I have to admit, you've got yourself a really good one, Blaine." She shook Kurt's hand. "My name is Amanda Harrison."
"Uh, I'm not exactly the father of Blaine's child." Kurt said looking at Blaine hoping that he would explain everything to her himself.
"Oh," The woman looked at Blaine and then back at Kurt.
"Kurt's my boyfriend." Blaine said, as it would be any explanation. "It's a bit complicated." He added after a couple of seconds.
"I see." She said and sat down on the desk chair in front of a computer screen. She typed something on the keyboard. "Let's see. You're already twelve weeks along."
"Yes." Blaine answered even though it wasn't a question.
She asked him a couple of questions and started setting the ultrasound machine. Blaine lied down on a examine table and lifted his shirt up. Kurt gasped noticing a small, adorable baby bump. Blaine's cheeks turned red. "Yeah, I'm getting fat."
"No." Kurt quickly said shaking his head. He took Blaine's hand and kissed the back of it. "You're as beautiful as always."
The doctor put the wand down on Blaine's stomach and started moving it across his skin keeping her dark eyes focused on the small screen. Kurt followed the suit, but he couldn't see much.
"Everything looks good." Dr. Harrison said still looking at the screen. She seemed to be looking for something else.
"See?" She asked pointing at the small pulsing point on the screen. "This is your baby's heart. Do you want to hear the heartbeat?" Blaine nodded his head fervently with tears in his eyes. The woman hooked up another machine to Blaine's stomach and a couple of minutes later they heard a heartbeat.
Kurt's eyes went wide at the sudden realization that this all was real. His best friend, boyfriend was going to become a dad in a few months and the steady sound filling the room was the proof of that. He squeezed Blaine's hand letting him know that he was there with him and that he wasn't going through this alone.
Blaine smiled at him softly. "It sounds beautiful." Blaine said.
"It does." Dr. Harrison admitted. "It's also very strong."
Blaine cleaned himself up with a paper towel and sat up on the bed. The doctor prescribed him more prenatal vitamins and printed pictures of the baby.
In that doctor office holding Blaine's hand and looking at the ultrasound picture Kurt couldn't stop thinking that he really wanted to be a part of it. He hoped that Blaine would let him.
When they excited the hospital Kurt couldn't stop himself anymore. Ignoring the fact that they were in the public place Kurt pinned Blaine to the car and pressed his lips to Blaine's. The dark-hired boy didn't seem to mind though as he started kissing back immediately. "After two weeks of not kissing you, I can't get enough of your lips." Kurt said which was true.
They kissed for a couple of minutes, until Blaine's lips became still under his. Kurt broke the kiss and looked at his boyfriend's face. Blaine's eyes were downcast and his lips were pressed in a firm line. "What's wrong?" Kurt asked. "I'm sorry if I was moving too fast again."
"No." Blaine said rubbing his neck. "It's just...I'm a little surprised that you're not freaked out yet." He chuckled humorlessly. "I'm not sure that you know exactly what you are getting yourself into."
"Please, look at me." Blaine lifted his gaze and locked his eyes with Kurt's. "I've got no way of knowing if our relationship will last, but I know that I really want to be with you, Blaine." He lifted up his hand and gently rubbed Blaine's cheek. The other boy smiled a little, but his hazel eyes were still sad.
"I just don't want to get my heart broken again." Blaine said reaching out for Kurt's hand. He entwined their fingers and looked down at their joined hands. "I know I loved Sebastian very much, but with you it's something else. I don't think it's love yet, but it already seems like something deeper than what I had with Sebastian."
They stood in the parking lot for a couple of minutes in silence just holding each other's hands. "Maybe we could go for a walk? It's not as cold as usual. It's kind of nice actually."
"Sounds good." Blaine said. "There's a park behind the hospital. We could go there."
"Sure." They let go off each other as they walked down the path not wanting to drag too much unwanted and dangerous attention to them. It was a hospital, but the sudden rush of courage from before was gone and Kurt felt vulnerable as he walked beside Blaine.
The snow was almost gone, but the park looked beautiful anyway. There was a small pond and a bench. The place was very small and full of patients, but Kurt liked it.
They sat down on the bench and wordlessly observed the people passing them by. The tension was evident between them and Kurt wanted so much to do something to make it all okay again, but he didn't know how.
He looked at Blaine's face. The dark-hired boy was looking blankly into space. His hair had a little less gel than usual which was the reason why he looked a little younger and more vulnerable. Eventually, Kurt rested his hand on Blaine's knee and smiled at him softly, when the other's boy eyes locked on his.
"Everything in my life is constantly changing." Blaine said brushing away some curls from his forehead. "Changing schools, becoming a father, breaking up, being with you - it's a little overwhelming to be honest. I want something to be permanent, so that I don't have to be afraid of losing it every morning after waking up."
"I promise-"
"Don't promise me anything, Kurt." Blaine said cutting him off. "I trust you. I am sure that you want to be with me, but I don't want you to make any promises that you're not completely sure of." He looked straight into Kurt's eyes. "No promises, okay? Let's just see how it all plays out for us."
Kurt nodded his head, understanding that Blaine was saying that just because he didn't want to end up with unfulfilled promises and a broken heart.
Blaine took his hand into both of his and massaged his thumb over his palm. "I really like you, Kurt. I hope you can see that."
"I like you too, Blaine." The shorter boy finally smiled a little bit and leaned his head on his boyfriend's shoulder.
