The blue fluid was everywhere. It was all over Blaine's clothes, face, and what was the worst his gelled down hair. His eyes were shut tightly as he tried to wipe the slushie off his face. It was frustrating. Blaine couldn't see what was going on around him and all he could hear was a loud eruption of laughter.
"Welcome to McKinley High, new kid." Someone said. Blaine was surprised that they hadn't came after him a lot sooner. He had been at McKinley for two weeks already. It could only mean that he was successful at being invisible for jocks.
However it didn't change the fact that being slushied was humiliating. The drink was sticky and itchy. Blaine still couldn't get rid of it and he had no idea what to do. To make matters worse he was starting to get sick because of the smell. Suddenly, someone grabbed his arm.
"Calm down, Blaine. It's okay." The voice belonged to Quinn. He sighed in relief and let the girl lead him to the nearest bathroom. As soon as he got there, Blaine splashed his face in a cold water, so that he could see something and ran over to the toilet bowl falling painfully to his knees to empty his stomach.
He almost never got sick anymore. It happened only when he smelled a certain substances. Blueberry slushie seemed to be one of them. Blaine wiped his mouth and slowly stood up on shaky legs immediately leaning against the wall to steady himself.
Blaine closed his eyes and took a couple of deep breaths. When he blinked his eyes open he noticed that Quinn was staring at him with a weird expression. "Are you okay, Blaine? I've never seen someone react like that to a slushie before."
"I'm fine." Blaine replied walking over to the sink. He looked at his reflection in the mirror and gasped. The blue lucid was literally everywhere. Blaine groaned leaning against the sink.
"I have some spare clothes in my locker, but I don't think that you would like to borrow them." Quinn said crossing her arms over her chest.
"What I am I supposed to do now?" Blaine asked, more to himself than to her.
Quinn smirked. "It's not the end of the world yet. Worse things happen to people and they live on. Clean yourself up and let me figure something out." She said and made her way out of the bathroom.
Blaine washed his hair, getting rid of the sticky substance along with the hair gel. Just as he was starting to wonder how to dry his hair, Quinn reentered the bathroom with a pile of clothes in her hands. "These clothes may be a little too big for you, since you are not very tall, but I don't have anything else."
"Thanks." Blaine said taking the clothes from her. He smiled when he noticed that there was also a white towel. He locked himself in the cabin gaining a quirk of eyebrows from Quinn and changed his clothes. It was a black hoodie and a pair of simple blue jeans. It wasn't really his style, but he wasn't going to complain.
As he walked out of the cabin he earned a laugh from Quinn. Yeah, right now his head was a mop of curls, but it wasn't like he could do something about it.
He examined his reflection in mirror as he packed his clothes into his bag. "So what's your story, Anderson?" Blaine turned around to see that Quinn was leaning against the wall looking at him with curiosity. "The real one."
Blaine bit his bottom lip. He didn't want to spill his guts to a girl that he barely knew. He decided to tell her the half-true if she really was that determined to know his past. "A nasty break-up."
Quinn nodded his head. "I can believe that." She said at last. "But there's something else that you're hiding from us and I'm wondering what it is."
"I don't have to tell you anything." Blaine said, a little harsher that he intended.
Quinn held up her hands in surrender, but a small smile found its way onto her face. "So there is something. Good to know."
Blaine sighed. "I really am grateful for your help, if this is what this conversation is about. Thank you."
Quinn laughed. "You can fool whoever you want, Blaine, but not me." She said walking over to him. Blaine turned his back to her and started working on his hair trying and failing at making it look at least a bit presentable. "I know all the symptoms."
Blaine's eyes widened, but he tried not to show his shock. "What symptoms?" He asked dumbly.
Quinn leaned forward and whispered softly to his ear as if she was telling him her biggest secret. "Dizziness, nausea, weird cravings, going to the bathroom like every five minutes and many more unpleasant things."
"Are you stalking me?" Blaine asked moving away from her.
"No." Quinn said. "It's just really hard not to see something so obvious." Blaine raised his eyebrows and folded his arms across his chest not really understanding what she was talking about. "Don't get me wrong. No one else sees that. Last year I was on exactly the same boat as you are now, Blaine. Expect I didn't have anyone as wonderful as Kurt by my side." Her eyes went a little misty and Blaine could see a little crack on the mask. She wasn't as strong and cold as she wanted other people to think.
"I was pregnant, too." The hurt, disappointment and many more feelings were evident on her face. She brushed some hair away from her forehead and smiled sadly. "I know how it feels like to be on the edge of insanity." Her green eyes filled with tears and one of them slowly rolled down her cheek. "You don't know what to do anymore. Everything is falling apart and you're in the middle of it."
The tears were cascading down her cheeks and her shoulders were shaking. Blaine quickly closed the gap between them wrapping his arms around her shoulders. Blaine's emotions were all over the place causing the tears fall down his cheeks as well. He felt like such a jerk for yelling at the poor girl earlier.
"Her name is Beth." Quinn said into his shoulder clutching the material of Blaine's hoodie in her hands tightly. "But she's with someone else. With someone who is not immature teenage girl."
"I'm sorry." Blaine said, not really knowing if he was apologizing for his previous behavior or if he was sorry for loss of Quinn's daughter.
"I miss her so much." Quinn whispered. "Don't ever think that it's easier to give your baby up for adoption instead of raising it." She was silent for a moment. Eventually she stopped crying, but stayed wrapped in Blaine's arms. "How far along are you?"
"Three months." Blaine answered playing with her hair. "I-I've already made my decision. I want to keep the baby, but…my parents are against the idea."
"Don't listen to them, then." Quinn said finally pulling away, so that she could look into his eyes. "Do what you think it's right."
"Thank you." Blaine said smiling at her. "And sorry for being a jerk."
Quinn waved her hand. "Oh, it's fine."
"We should probably go to class. We are already late."
"Yeah, you're right." Quinn said and leaned forward to gently kiss his cheek. "Take care and if you need someone to talk to, you can count on me."
"Thank you. I will remember that." Blaine said as she walked towards the door. "Oh, and Quinn?" The blond girl stopped and turned around to look at him. "Please, don't tell anyone about our conversation. I'm not ready to tell people about it yet."
"Sure." She said flashing him a smile. Then she walked out of the bathroom. Blaine looked one more time into the mirror wincing at his hair and followed her suit.
Blending into the crowd wasn't an easy task for Blaine that day. Wherever he went he heard laughter. Suddenly, the whole school knew who the new kid was. Blaine was really surprised that he didn't have a gum in his hair yet.
The kids from glee club also noticed if their weird smiles and Santana's snarky comment were any indication. Right after practice spent on listening to another ballad sung by Rachel and Mr. Shuster's speech about being unique, they all could finally go home. The halls were mostly empty, for which Blaine was incredibly grateful.
When Blaine excited the school, his phone buzzed in his pocket. He took it out expecting it to be another worry-filled text message from Kurt. He frowned when he saw that it was from Wes.
Meet me at Lima Bean in twenty minutes – Wes
Blaine groaned getting into his car. He looked down at his clothes and thought for a moment about just going home, but then he realized that it really had to be something important if Wes wanted to meet in person in the middle of the week.
Unfortunately, he couldn't drive home to change his clothes and do something about his hair and then drive back to Lima, because it would take too much time, and Wes would be at Dalton past curfew. Reluctantly, Blaine started the engine and pulled out of the parking lot. Of course he was happy at the prospect of talking to his best friend, but the other boy had never seen him without hair gel.
The drive to Lima Bean took Blaine only ten minutes, but Wes was already there with his hands wrapped around the cup of coffee. As soon as the dark-hired boy entered the coffee shop, Wes lifted his gaze and locked his eyes on Blaine. Wes was usually very reserved when it came to showing emotions, but in that moment his dark eyes shined with amusement as he burst out in laughter.
Blaine looked around noticing a few people staring at his friend, and then at the source of his laughter, namely Blaine. The curly-hired boy approached the table occupied by Wes and sat down on the chair opposite him. "Will you shut up, please?" Blaine asked, when Wes just kept laughing. "People are staring at my mop of hair. It's humiliating enough as it is."
Wes covered his mouth with his hand muting his laughter. Eventually he calmed down and took a deep breath. "Sorry." He finally said. "I've just never seen you like this."
"Clearly." Blaine said.
"Is there a reason why you are dressed like this and your hair is free of gel, or is it just your new style?" Wes asked in amusement.
"I would never go to people willingly like this! Who do you think I am?" Blaine looked at the table for the first time since he entered the shop and noticed that Wes hadn't ordered anything for him. "You're buying me a tea for laughing at me."
Wes rolled his eyes, but stood up anyway and walked over to the counter. Couple of minutes later he was back with a drink for Blaine. He placed the cup in front of his friend and sat down. "Now tell me why you are dressed like this. Lost bet?"
"A slushie thrown at me, if you really need to know." Blaine said a little harshly staring down at his drink.
"What?" Blaine looked at his friend noticing that there was not even a trace of previous amusement in Wes' voice. "Have you been lying to us this whole time? Are you getting a hard time at McKinley?"
Blaine took a deep breath slowly sipping his hot tea. He looked into Wes' eyes trying to act cool. "Of course not. Let's face the truth. Every new kid in every public school gets a little bullied at the beginning. At McKinley they throw a slushie at you apparently. At least now I'm off targets. That's what is important."
"You can't know that for sure." Wes said running his hand through his hair. "God, we should have done something to make you stay at Dalton."
"You couldn't have done anything. The principal's a jerk and probably even a homophobe." Blaine said softly.
Wes stared at his face for a couple of seconds in silence, as in search of any sight that Blaine might be keeping something from him. "Okay." He said slowly. "But if anything like that happens again, you need to tell somebody." Blaine nodded his head. "Promise me, Blaine."
Blaine sighed. "Fine. I promise." Wes took a sip of his coffee and licked his lips. "What is it really about, Wes? Why are you here without others? Not that I don't like spending time only with you, but it's a little out of character for you to want to hang out outside of Dalton in the middle of the week."
"Yes, I have a pretty good reason." Wes said. "I'm not gonna lie, Blaine. This is about Kurt. And you probably won't like what I'm about to say." Blaine raised his eyebrows not really knowing where this conversation was going. "Something is wrong with him. He's suddenly Sebastian's biggest defender. Everyone's against Sebastian being in the Warblers expect for Kurt. See, Sebastian's hasn't been in shape to perform lately and we are worried that he might just destry everything."
Blaine listened carefully, not knowing what to think about Kurt's behavior. "And I just don't understand why Kurt is suddenly so interested in helping Sebastian since only a couple of weeks ago he hated him. Don't you think that it's a little suspicious?"
The dark-hired boy held up his hand cutting off Wes' rambling. "Stop. I trust Kurt, okay?"
"But it's weird! What if he's…I don't know cheating on you with him?"
It was Blaine's turn to burst out in laughter. "Seriously? Do you even hear yourself?"
"This is not funny, Blaine. He might hurt you and I don't want to see my best friend heartbroken again."
Blaine stopped laughing as he noticed that Wes really meant all that. "I know you're not a fun of our relationship, but we're not kids. We trust each other and I don't think that he wants to break up with me any time soon. We're still just exploring our new relationship."
"But he doesn't know what he wants! He's just a teenage boy with hormones. Once something serious happens he will run away from responsibilities."
"Hey! Don't talk about him like that." Blaine said, not happy that Wes was so against the idea of their relationship. It was also very sad that he had so little fight in Kurt. The blue-eyed boy had proved to him that he was in their relationship for real. "I promise I will talk to Kurt about Sebastian, but you can't be so paranoid all the time."
"I can't help it." Wes said shrugging. "You're like a little brother to me." Blaine was touched by this. He knew that Wes didn't have any sibling, but he treated his friends like family members. He really cared about them, but he could also pin point their mistakes when it was necessary. Blaine would miss him when he moved out to go to college at the end of the summer. "I might get a little overprotective of you sometimes, but that's just because I care about you."
"I know." Blaine said. "And I am incredibly grateful for that, but don't be so hard on Kurt, okay?" When Wes nodded his head Blaine looked at his wristwatch, which was luckily unharmed despite the slushie. "I really need to go."
"Oh," Wes visibly saddened, but his face quickly lightened up. "I've got an idea. Maybe you could come to Dalton tomorrow as a guest to help with choosing the soloists for relagionals?"
"I don't know." Blaine said. "What if the principal sees me?"
"I'm positive that you're allowed to visit your friends from time to time. Besides, everyone misses you."
Blaine missed Dalton too much to think about it any longer. "Fine, but I will warn you. I might not be completely objective when it comes to Kurt."
Wes smiled. "I think we can deal with that."
When Blaine finally entered the house, before he even had a chance to pull off his coat, his mother called him from the living room. He still wasn't on talking terms with his parents, but at least he was able to be with them in the same room. Slowly, Blaine hung his coat and pulled off his shoes.
He made his way to the living room where his parents were apparently waiting for him. "Hello, sweetheart. How was…" She stopped mid-sentence taking in his appearance.
"Don't even ask." Blaine said, having enough of explaining to people why he looked the way he did. "Someone just accidentally spilled their soup all over me. Not a big deal." Blaine lied smoothly." You wanted to talk to me about something, right?"
Monic looked as if she wanted to tell something about his appearance, but eventually she just smiled kindly at him and patted an empty space next to her on the sofa. Blaine reluctantly sat down next to her, but kept some distance between their bodies.
Blaine looked at his father's face hoping that this wasn't just another conversation about his future, responsibilities and difficulties coming with having a child. Paul's face was unreadable, but Blaine doubted that they had any good news for him.
"Blaine," His mother began softly reaching for his hand. As soon as they made contact, Blaine pulled his hand away, not wanting her to think that they were fine again. "We understand why you don't want to give the baby to strangers, and we respect this." Blaine blinked his eyes twice staring at his mother open-mouthed. "One of my friends can't get pregnant. She and her husband really want to have a baby and maybe it would be easier for you to get to know them, see what they are like. You are able give them the most precious gift in the world. They are waiting for adoption, but they are not the only couple that want to have an infant, so the list is long and it could even take years until they are able to adopt a child."
Blaine's eyes filled with unwanted tears, but he was determined to keep them in. It seemed like it was just their another attempt to make him give the baby up for adoption. "Christine and Brian really want to meet you."
"No." Blaine said firmly. "It would be cruel to give them false hope."
"They are really strong and courageous people. They've been through a lot and you could make their life a lot better and brighter." Monic said trying to make eye-contact with her son. "I've said it before, this is for the better, Blaine. This way you could watch your child grow."
"But my son or daughter wouldn't even know that I am their father." Blaine said wiping his eyes.
"Blaine," For the first time Paul spoke up. "Just meet these people. You might change your mind."
Blaine glared at him wanting nothing more than to scream at him. "You shouldn't have told them about it without consulting it with me first." Blaine said turning to his mother, who seemed to be a mess of emotions. "Why can't you just support me?"
Despite Blaine's protest Monic wrapped her arm around Blaine's shoulders and pulled him close to her. "Of course we support you. We want what's best for you. I know we can't force you into anything, but you should at least consider it. Just one meeting. Can you do that for me?"
Blaine stayed in his mother's arms for a few moments inhaling her pleasant scent. He really didn't want to agree, but it seemed like he didn't have much of a choice. "Okay. I can meet them." He eventually said receiving a kiss on his forehead from his mother.
"Thank you, sweetheart." Monic said.
Later that evening Blaine talked through the phone to Kurt, but didn't mention his conversation with Wes. He wanted to surprise his boyfriend by his visit at Dalton and then talk calmly about Sebastian. It was a little weird that Kurt wanted to help him, Blaine had to admit, but there was no point in being in a relationship without trust, so Blaine just had to believe that Kurt knew what he was doing and would tell him everything the next day.
He also didn't tell anything about his meeting with Christine and Brian not wanting to worry Kurt. When they finished their phone call, Blaine took a long, hot shower, brushed his teeth and jumped under the covers. However sleep wouldn't come. His mind kept coming back to all the events from the day. At least now he had a new friend in Quinn.
Eventually, after over two hours of turning and tossing in bed, his mind finally cleared and he was able to fall asleep.
