A/N: So yeah, I'm back. Missed me? I might have messed up with the timeline but right now I just want to focus on finishing this story and maybe writing something new but first I need to find inspiration. Do you happen to have a Klaine prompt for me? It doesn't have to be mpreg, just anything. If my muse likes it (and it's very picky) I might consider writing it ;) Please, drop a review and enjoy reading because for all we know the next update may be in two years or so (jk)
"Is he kicking yet?" Claudia asked pulling Blaine out of his thoughts. He had been solving math problems for the last hour and he was getting tired of it, so he welcomed the short break provided by the question.
"He's definitely moving but I wouldn't call it kicking yet." Blaine replied smiling softly at his teacher. He took a sip of his tea looking at all the people around them. They had decided that a change would be nice so they were in the coffee shop in the centre of Westerville. It was hard because pink hearts and other decorations were all around reminding Blaine that the date of the Valentine's day was creeping up at him. It was one of his favorite holidays but without Kurt by his side it would be a horrible torture.
Last year he had been in the middle of the craziness that was his relationship with Sebastian. It had been irresponsible and inappropriate and yet somehow Blaine found himself loving every second of it. However now he only wanted Kurt. He didn't want to do something stupid with him, cuddling would be way more than enough. But because of his own stupidity Blaine once again had to suffer the consequences of his actions. He kept looking at his cell phone, hoping that he would finally get a text message from Kurt but unfortunately nothing came and Blaine was left heartbroken and completely devastated.
He had destroyed everything and now he was all alone. He probably deserved that anyway. Kissing Sebastian had been an obvious mistake and now Blaine had to life with it. During his phone conversations with Wes, the boy kept asking him about Kurt but since apparently they weren't really on talking terms he didn't know anything about the blue-eyed boy.
"Hey, Blaine. Are you there?" Claudia asked smiling at Blaine with sympathy. She didn't know everything about Blaine's problems but enough to know that the boy was miserable. "Do you need a break? We've been here for two hours. It's okay to take a breather."
"Thanks." Blaine said with a small smile, grateful for the moment to himself. "I'm going to buy myself something to eat. You want something?" Blaine asked raising from his seat.
"No, I'm fine. Thanks." Claudia said typing something on her phone.
The boy walked towards the counter, happy to stretch out his legs. But he kept glancing at the people sitting by the table to check if they were staring at him. At seventeen weeks his baby bump was pretty noticeable but even though to most people it probably looked like he had put up extra weight Blaine still felt extremely cautious. He didn't like wearing form-fitting clothes so he often settled for options that were a few sizes too big for him. Cooper's old clothes were like a life saver but it probably looked a little funny.
Blaine ordered a croissant leaning against the counter and watching as the kind barista prepared it. Just as the college girl put the plate in front of him the door to the coffee shop opened and Blaine found himself looking at the boy that he would prefer to avoid at all costs. Sebastian's eyes immediately locked with Blaine's and the shorter boy noticed that once again he didn't look like himself. There were dark shadows under his green eyes and he looked older, as if the weight of the world had fallen onto his shoulders.
There was a big chance that Blaine looked exactly the same.
Sebastian slowly walked over to where Blaine was standing and just looked at him silently for a couple of seconds. "Hi." He finally said.
"Hi." Blaine replied calmly. "You came here for a coffee?"
"Yeah, there is a long rehearsal ahead of us and knowing Wes we're probably going to stay up until midnight or something." He said, his voice lacking its usual vigor. "I need to get some caffeine into my system because I might actually pass out."
Blaine smiled slightly. "Yeah…the practices right before the competition can get a little intense."
"Well, yeah…if by "a little" you mean Wes torturing us until we can't feel our legs anymore." This time both Blaine and Sebastian smiled but soon an awkward silence fell between them. "Can we talk?"
Blaine sighed. "If all you want to know is if we are getting back together then the answer is still no. And besides, I don't really have time for that. I'm in a middle of the class." Blaine said looking over at Claudia who was still busy with typing on her phone.
Sebastian followed his line of sigh. "Oh, okay."
"I don't want us to be enemies, Seb." Blaine said softly looking up at his ex-boyfriend. "I know it might seem impossible at the moment but maybe we could work toward being friends eventually."
The green-eyed boy was silent for a few seconds looking at Blaine with sadness and sorrow written all over his pale face. "You never call me Seb anymore." He said at last. "I missed that."
Blaine's cheeks turned bright red and he had to look away. "Please, stop."
Sebastian shrugged. "I'm sorry but I am not able to stop loving you, Blaine. Even though my actions might have spoken otherwise I always have and always will."
"You will get over me eventually." Blaine said hoping that it would really happen. He knew he couldn't get back together with Sebastian after how he had hurt him but it still pained him to see Sebastian so miserable and heartbroken. He missed seeing his former boyfriend with a smirk on his face. Not so long ago everything seemed fine but now Sebastian was once again a shell of his former self. And Blaine knew that it was all his fault. "I'm sorry for kissing you back. I shouldn't have done that. It was…it was cruel."
"No…I think…I know that you wanted to kiss me." Sebastian said. "I know you didn't do it to hurt me. You're not like that."
Blaine felt the tears gather in his eyes for what felt like a millionth time in the course of past two weeks. "No, you didn't push me into anything but I was under the influence of so many feelings…I know it's not an excuse but I really wasn't thinking straight." He paused for a moment looking down at the croissant still located on the counter next to other goodies. The barista was preoccupied by something in the back so no one was hopefully listening to their conversation.
"Blaine-"
"No." Blaine cut him off firmly. "If we want this to work out you have to stop being so delusions. You can't keep living your fantasies."
Sebastian looked down, clearly avoiding Blaine's gaze. "Okay." He said softly. "I will back down if that's what you want but I will never let you go. I will never stop trying to win you back. I love you and nothing can change it."
Blaine sighed in frustration rubbing his neck tiredly. "Why do you have to keep making everything so damn complicated? As if it wasn't hard enough without you constantly messing up with me." He looked into Sebastian's green eyes hoping that the other boy would eventually give up. "I have to go. Have a nice rehearsal."
"I'm sorry, Blaine." Sebastian said softly but the shorter boy ignored him, grabbed his croissant and walked back to the table.
He sat down heavily on the chair and sighed. "Is something wrong?" Claudia asked in concern, obviously noticing her student's distress. "Was he bothering you?"
Blaine rolled his eyes. "Well, yeah." He replied. "But there's not really much I can do about it."
"Tough, huh?" She asked with a fait smile playing on her lips.
"Yeah…" Blaine trailed off, happy that she didn't want him to explain anything.
Her smiled widened. "Well, so certainly now math problems won't seem so problematic anymore!" Blaine couldn't help but snort at that as he opened his notebook once again and started scribbling down the numbers.
When Blaine's classes with Claudia were over he drove home and occupied himself with playing guitar and playing with Maggie. The dog was much bigger now and Blaine had trouble believing that she had grown so much. But every time he looked at her he felt a wave of pain upon remembering how kind and understanding Kurt had been to him by presenting him the little ball of fur.
Now all the songs he played were sad and everything Blaine thought about revolved around his stupid mistake. He kept glancing at his cell phone and wondering if maybe he could call Kurt and ask him for a meeting. But he knew it would be stupid. In order to show his (hopefully still) boyfriend that he respected him Blaine had to give him as much space as he needed no matter how much it pained him to just sit and wait for the other boy to make the first move. Wes kept entertaining him with frequent phone calls for which Blaine was extremely grateful but the older boy still seemed relatively content about the lack of communication between his two friends.
Blaine knew that his best friend meant well but sometimes he could easily get blinded by his supposed inerrancy which would usually result in hurting a few people. He couldn't even imagine what could possibly be going on between Wes and Kurt at the moment but since they didn't talk to each other it had to be pretty bad. Blaine wished he could have some kind of influence on this whole situation, his desire to just do something kept growing and he didn't really know what to do about it.
Without having to go to any school and with no contact with Kurt whatsoever each day looked pretty much the same and Blaine longed for some change that would make everything look at least a little bit better. He missed singing with his friends and preparing for Regionals. He would do everything he could to go see them perform and cheer for both teams but it wouldn't be the same.
Now Blaine didn't have a clue as to where and when he would go back to school. He was nearing the middle of his pregnancy and he knew that going back to school after having the baby was not going to be easy. Without question both Monic and Paul were going to help him with everything but despite that going back to school would have to probably be postponed.
Blaine put away his guitar as his fingers were already hurting after playing for too long. He rested his hands on the swell of his stomach smiling softly when he felt his little baby move. It was hard to think about the future for now but Blaine tried to stay positive for the sake of his own sanity even though it seemed extremely difficult.
His parents had gone shopping which meant that Blaine was once again left alone with his thoughts. Now that he wasn't surrounded by his peers for a few hours a day Blaine thought he was slowly losing his mind because of having almost nobody to talk to for the majority of the day. Blaine's father had work to do and even if he was home it seemed like he wasn't really there since he had so much papers to fill and people to call.
Blaine could always talk to his mother but he could still find difficulties in doing so.
He looked around his bedroom wishing that he could just talk to Kurt, see his face and hear his laughter. Blaine kept hoping that he hadn't fucked everything up, at least not completely, but what if he had? He shook his head trying to get rid of his thoughts. He stood up from his place on the bed and walked over to Maggie who was sleeping peacefully on the carpet with her head propped up on one of Blaine's old plush toys. The boy sat down next to her on the floor and started stroking her soft fur.
Some music was playing in the background so that he wouldn't be completely surrounded by silence but it wasn't helping much. The images of what he had possibly lost were still hunting him and it seemed that nothing would change anytime soon. Suddenly Blaine heard the doorbell ring but he didn't bother coming downstairs knowing that his mother would surely open the door. At the sound Maggie woke up and looked around in alarm, as if expecting a predator to jump at her from somewhere. Blaine smiled fondly at that and stroked the puppy's head again.
Soon the dog was asleep again and Blaine found himself feeling a little tired as well. A nap would probably be a good idea. Just as he started debating with himself whether or not he should go to sleep and risk waking up only after several hours he heard a soft knock on his door. Before he had a chance to say or do anything the door opened slightly revealing a face Blaine had been both dreaming of seeing and dreading to see for the past two weeks.
Even though Kurt looked just as impeccable as always he seemed a little more tired than usual. He was wearing his Dalton uniform and his hair was neatly styled but somehow he didn't look exactly good. He didn't look as bad as Sebastian had but it was clear that this whole situation was taking a toll on him too. When the boy entered Blaine's bedroom he closed the door behind him and just looked at Blaine for a few painfully long seconds in silence. "Hi." He finally said.
Blaine just kept looking straight into Kurt's blue eyes searching for any sighs of anger. He didn't find that but he did find something else. Hurt. A cold shiver ran down his spine as he realized one more time that this was all his creation. "Kurt…hi." Blaine said at last, a little breathlessly.
"I'm sorry I didn't call you or anything but I needed some time and space and I figured that you probably needed it as well." Kurt's voice was calm as he kept standing and looking at Blaine intensely. "What you did…it really hurt me…it still hurts to be honest to know that you would just go and kiss Sebastian like that as if what we had didn't really matter to you in that moment." Blaine really wanted to say something, make things better somehow but he could see that Kurt really needed to say all that he had to say first. "I've talked to some people…I might have even made a new enemy along the way but despite everything, after these two painfully long weeks I still care about you, Blaine. But I want to be surethat you won't go running back to Sebastian…that he won't come in between us ever again."
Kurt walked over to Blaine's bed and sat down still looking into his eyes. "I cannot let myself be a doormat…I can just sit around hoping that you won't kiss Sebastian again. I am not like that. I can't be like that."
"What are you saying then?" Blaine asked feeling tears well up in his eyes. He stayed on the floor with his hand on Maggie's head to keep himself grounded.
Kurt sighed running his hand through his chestnut hair. "Ugh, I'm not really sure to be honest." He replied looking genuinely lost and confused. Blaine wished he could somehow make him feel better. "I don't really know what to think about us anymore. As I said before I really care about you. I don't want to lose you but we will have to take things very slowly from now on."
Blaine blinked a few times. "You are not breaking up with me?"
He could see tears shining in Kurt's eyes. "I don't want to throw everything that is between us away just because of some stupid mistake." He said softly looking down at his hands. "I know you regret that kiss. I really can see that." He paused for a moment, not meeting Blaine's eyes. "Then again…I'm not sure that you know exactly what you want."
Blaine wanted to argue against this statement but he found himself speechless. "What are you saying then?" He asked again quietly feeling his voice shake a little.
Kurt shrugged finally looking down at him. "I need you to really think about what you want because I know what I want. I want you, Blaine. God, I crave you so badly." There was some kind of desperation in Kurt's eyes but also hurt and uncertainty. Seeing the person Blaine was pretty sure he loved like this was killing him. "You have no idea how much I wish we could just simply go back to the way we were before but how am I supposed to do that when I don't know if what you claim to feel for me is genuine?"
"It is, I promise." Blaine said immediately knowing that he really cared deeply about Kurt even though his past actions might have shown otherwise. "I won't do anything to hurt you ever again. What I said back then…what I almost said…I really meant it. And I still do."
A sad smile appeared on Kurt's pale face. "I just…I don't know anymore. Can we just take things slowly? One step at a time? I am not saying that we should go back to being friends but we should probably slow down a bit. I think that we might have moved a little too fast, don't you think? It can't be healthy. Let's just take a step back and see where it gets us, okay?"
Blaine slowly nodded his head not really knowing how he felt about it. "I'm sorry." He finally said.
"I know." Kurt quickly said. "I know you are."
"So where do we go from here?" Blaine asked, not ready to let go of Kurt just yet.
"Forward, I hope." Kurt said smiling slightly.
Hesitantly, Blaine smiled back. "Can I have a hug at least?" He asked shyly, not sure if he was ready to be rejected by Kurt.
But to his surprise the boy's smile widened and he stood up from the bed. "Don't ask stupid questions, Blaine. Of course you can." Blaine sighed in relief and without thinking too much he abruptly stood up from the floor. His world span a little from the sudden movement but it was okay because he quickly found himself embraced by Kurt's arms and it felt like he could finally breath freely. Like a ton of bricks had been lifted off of his arms.
"I missed you." He said into Kurt's shoulder.
"I missed you too, Blaine." Kurt said shakily and even without looking at him Blaine could tell that he was close to crying.
When they were done hugging they both sat down on Blaine's bed and the boy couldn't help but notice Kurt's gaze which was focused on his stomach. "What?" He asked.
Kurt seemed to snap out of it as he looked back into Blaine's eyes. "Nothing. It just feels like ages since we've last talked. Your baby bump seems much bigger now."
Blaine smiled slightly placing his hand on top of his bump and stroking it softly. "Well, yeah. It only keeps growing."
Then Kurt's eyes travelled to Maggie who was looking at him with curiosity. "And Maggie…she also seems to have grown a lot." Kurt patted his lap in invitation and the puppy immediately climbed onto the bed and made herself comfortable in Kurt's arms. "Hey there, girl."
Blaine watched Kurt with a small smile playing on his lips. "She probably missed you too."
"I bet." Kurt said stroking the dog's head. He was smiling but when he looked up at Blaine his face became stern and even slightly guilty. "I have to tell you something, Blaine." He said softly.
"What is it?" Blaine asked, feeling a little scared. From what he could read on Kurt's face it couldn't be anything good.
Kurt sighed. "My dad…he knows about everything, about the baby." A cold shiver ran down Blaine's spine and his eyes widened in surprise and fear. "Not from me. From Finn actually and this is also how I found out that you're home-schooled now. But it doesn't matter now…I am really sorry about what happened."
"It's okay. Not your fault." Blaine said even though panic was bubbling up inside of him. "What did he say about it?"
Kurt shrugged. "He said what we all could have expected him to say."
"Which is?" Blaine prompted.
"That it's stupid that we are together."
"Oh" Blaine let out, a little hurt.
"I obviously don't agree with him but what else was he supposed to say? That it's all fine and dandy? No." Kurt said and Blaine knew that he was right. "But he's not mad at you or anything like that…he's more mad at me if anything."
"I get it. He's your dad He's just looking out for you." Blaine said softly looking up at Kurt and wishing that he could just reach out and grab his hand but was too scared that it would be out of line. "I'm sorry for not telling you about me being home-schooled earlier. I should have."
"Well, now's your chance." Kurt said looking at the shorter boy expectantly.
Blaine took a deep breath. He didn't want to mention Sebastian again and see the hurt look on Kurt's face but he kind of had to. "Three weeks ago or so Sebastian told me that he had finally informed his father about the baby. They came over, we talked and his father said that he would pay for my tutor and I agreed."
Kurt nodded his head. "You did the right thing."
"You're not mad at me?" Blaine asked skeptically.
Kurt shrugged again. "Why would I be? You're safe. That's what matters the most after all."
"Yeah, it is." Blaine agreed. It was clear that there was tension between them and Blaine had no idea how to make it disappear. He hoped that it would just go away on its own soon. "How's rehearsing for Regionals?" He asked wanting to talk about something neutral but as soon as he said it Kurt's face changed and he looked a little angry.
"Everything's almost ready. We keep perfecting every single move and Wes is driving everyone crazy as usual. Nothing unexpected." Kurt said.
"But something's wrong." Blaine stated and Kurt didn't argue. "What is it?"
"Wes." Kurt said coldly. "And don't even start me on him, Blaine because recently he's on the top of my enemy list."
Blaine frowned. He knew that Wes and Kurt hadn't been fond of each other recently but he didn't know it was that bad. But then again, Kurt tended to exaggerate sometimes. "Is it that bad? I thought you were at least civil with each other."
Kurt rolled his eyes snorting and despite everything Blaine was kind of glad to see him like that. "He's impossible…I mean who does he think he is? He keeps telling me and everyone else too for that matter what we should and shouldn't do and it's getting old. I thought that we were friends but apparently not." He looked down at the dog in his eyes looking hurt.
Blaine felt bad about it because Wes had been his best friend for such a long time. Yes, he could be often too involved in his life and he thought he knew everything best but it wasn't like that. Wes was just looking out for him even though it wasn't always what Blaine needed. "Please, be patient with him. He's really a good friend and if you have him on your side he will go to hell after you."
Kurt sighed and in that moment he looked so tired that Blaine wanted to gather him in his arms and let him sleep for as long as he wanted. "I know that, Blaine. But he can't keep telling me what to do."
"I will talk to him about it." Blaine said. "I promise."
Blaine craved for Kurt's touch and it seemed to him that the other boy needed it as well so hesitantly he finally reached out and grabbed Kurt's cold hand. To his great surprise and relief Kurt didn't withdraw from his touch. Instead he smiled slightly and squeezed Blaine's hand tightly making him believe that everything would be alright in the end.
