Phineas and Ferb
Baby Adventures of Phineas
Chapter 11: The Ballgame Part II
Disclaimer: Phineas and Ferb does not belong to me. It belongs to Dan Povenmire and Jeff Swampy Marsh, who have done an amazing job with this show the past 8+ years. Here's to 8+ MORE years!
With the help from the players, the coaches, the staff, the Public Relations department, and the umpires, the Danville Vultures were able to put together an incredible surprise for baby Phineas: they made him the honorary ball boy for the day. They gave him a uniform, a cap, and a bag full of balls, as well as simple instructions for him to follow. They also prepared a special introduction for him.
As for Linda and Candace, they were given front row seats just above the Vultures dugout so they could watch their little boy have the time of his life.
"Ladies and gentlemen!" The announcer blared over the speakers. "To deliver the ball for the start of the 2nd inning, please give a warm welcome to the Danville Vultures' honorary ball boy..."
On the sidelines, one of the players whispered to Phineas "OK, son, that's your cue. Go give that guy his ball back." He said sweetly, still playing to Phineas' innocence.
"Ball!" He shouted as he began hustling as fast as his little legs could go out towards the mound to the waving pitcher.
"Phineas!" When the announcer yelled his name and Phineas began running out to the mound, the crowd began cheering. They were eating it up, and everyone on the field took fun in it. Phineas giggled and laughed as he carried the ball all the way to the mound.
"Here you go mister!" He shouted as he held the ball as high as he could. The pitcher took it from him and tussled Phineas's hair before turning him around and instructing him to run back to the dugout, which Phineas did equally as fast, to the delight of the crowd. He had a seat right next to the entrance of the dugout, to which he promptly plopped his rear end onto and watched the game unfold, still with absolutely no idea what was going on.
The game progressed rather quietly; each half inning he'd take a ball and hand it to the pitcher, regardless of which team they were on. Every half inning, the crowd gave him a roaring ovation.
Until at one moment, in the middle innings of the game, where it was quiet, Phineas sat in his chair happily smiling, taking in all the action. Suddenly, something in the stands caught his attention. He veered his sight away from the field and noticed that a beach ball was bouncing all around a section of the bleachers. "Ball!" He shouted. He got out of his seat and started to run, but the player that came out of the dugout stopped him.
"Little buddy, what do you think you're doing?" He said nicely, quickly noting the boy's panicked expression.
"Ball! Ball!" He whined and pointed into the stands, veering his friend's attention to the volley ball being tossed around. "I gotta get ball!"
The player turned back to Phineas. "No, little man. You gotta stay here with us on the field."
"No! You said!" He started jumping up and down and pointing. "You said that if I see a ball, then I gotta get ball. And I see ball!" He pointed to the ball in the stands again. "So I get ball!" He then took off and started sprinting up the right field line towards the stands where the ball was. When he got to the wall outside the general vicinity of the ball, he started jumping up and down trying to reach the ledge and pull himself up. The fans that were tossing the beach ball around took notice of the infant.
Meanwhile one of the players raced down the line and grabbed the infant. "OH no you don't, little buddy!" He said playfully to Phineas, who started whining, both because he was confused at what was happening and he was frustrated because he felt like he wasn't doing his job.
"No! I gotta get the ball!" He shouted as he started tearing up.
"No, not that ball!" He said, as he turned Phineas around and took out a baseball from his pocket. "This ball."
Phineas studied the ball, and then he looked at the beach ball the others were tossing around. Suddenly things were starting to click for him. "This ball?"
"Yeah. This is the only ball you have to focus on. OK, little guy?"
Phineas whined again. "I'm sorry, mister. I didn't know. I did a bad thing." He teared up even worse and was about to let loose his disappointment. "I'm a bad boy!" He shouted before taking off towards the dugout and his mother and sister's seats, sobbing hysterically. "I'm sorry!"
When he approached the dugout, the crowd went silent, listening intently to the boy's hysteria. He approached the seats and begged to be lifted up by his mother. "Mommy! Mommy, I'm a bad boy!"
Linda sympathetically picked up her infant son and rocked him softly in her arms. "Oh, honey, you're not a bad boy."
"But I did a bad thing!" The little toddler cried desperately into her arms. "I didn't do the right thing!"
Literally the entire game grounded to a halt with the boy continuing to cry. "Aww, it's OK honey. Everybody makes mistakes. But nobody's saying you have to be perfect. You just have to learn from them, OK?"
Phineas looked up at his mother. "Really? Y-You still love me?"
"Of course we love you."
Immediately Phineas's tears began drying up, and he began giggling. The player came back to the stands to check on him. "You OK, little fella?"
"Yes, mister!" He said as he wiggled himself around to face him. "I'm a good boy!" He turned his head back to Linda. "Mommy, can I stay here with you and Candy? Please?"
"Sure, sweetheart. Whatever you want."
"Yay!" He turned back to the player. "Thank you mister! I'm gonna stay with Mommy and Candy!" He giggled again as he tussled Phineas's hair and returned to the field.
The rest of the game went without incident, and at the end, as the family got ready to leave, the same player came back over to them, delighting Phineas instantly. "Hi mister!"
"Hey before y'all go, we need our ball boy for a minute." He said quickly.
"What for?"
"We're taking our team photos out on the field, and we need the whole team. The whole team." He winked at them; while Linda and Candace understood, Phineas did not.
"Phineas, did you hear that? They need you." Linda told her son, happily playing along. Phineas gasped and happily beamed at his mother.
"They needs me?" He asked sweetly. Everyone nodded. He gasped again and rejoiced. "Yay! They needs me! Superhero!" Everyone laughed before Linda corrected him.
"No, Phineas. They need Phineas The Ballboy."
Phineas gasped. "Ball? Ball!"
So the player guided Phineas back onto the field and redressed him in a team uniform before taking him to the photo area. He sat him down right in front of the whole team for him to lead the photo. After several photos with the team, they took him aside and took several photos of him by himself. He happily played along and enjoyed spending time with Phineas, even after he insisted that he wouldn't take anymore until Linda and Candace joined in.
What Phineas didn't know was that those photos were going to be made into official team trading cards that would be given out to everyone who attended the game that day. It would be a special memory for him - one so special that he wouldn't even realize it until much later in his life.

This one was personally my favorite to write. So make sure to read and review. I'll put the next one out as soon as I have the time.
