Phineas and Ferb
Baby Adventures of Phineas
Chapter 12: The TV
Disclaimer: Phineas and Ferb does not belong to me. It belongs to Dan Povenmire and Jeff Swampy Marsh, who have done an amazing job with this show the past 8+ years. Here's to 8+ MORE years!
Phineas happily ran down the stairs from the top floor to the base floor, eagerly looking for his mother and sister. "Mommy! Candy!" He shouted. As he ran past the TV, he stumbled. He caught himself from falling by leaning against the TV, but when he did he accidentally hit the ON button. The TV screen went on, and instantly Phineas was captivated. He turned and faced the screen. The flashing colors, bright lights, and scintillating sound left him completely immobilized.
And his tiny brain had no understanding of what he was watching, which was...an exercise video. Instead, Phineas's brain opted to command him that he follow the man on the screen and mimic his every move.
The moves started out very simple. Simple arm lifts, kicking of the legs. Even though Phineas was barely even mimicking the moves well, he was still having a blast, giggling and laughing the entire time. He was having the time of his life without actually understanding what was going on. But then the moves started to get harder. The exercises started to get more intense. Phineas tried to mimic each move, but they were simple so difficult and so fast paced that he simply ended up doing some silly dance without any coordination.
Still, the boy kept laughing and having a great time, completely mesmerized by the bright lights and noises and movements.
Candace came into the room from the kitchen and caught Phineas watching the TV. She covered her mouth and silently "aww'd" at the sight. But Phineas, with something in his brain going on, turned and saw Candace standing at the entrance. "CANDY!" He shouted, as he broke from his position and dashed towards her sister, hugging her leg. "Candy! Look!" He grabbed her hand and tried to pull her towards the TV. But all he did was run in place. "Why aren't I going nowhere?"
Candace laughed as she picked her brother up. "Phineas, are you watching TV?"
Phineas turned his head towards her and reverse cross-eyed, confused. "T…V?"
"Yes, that's what this colorful box is. Tee-vee. You can watch all sorts of stuff on here. Like…this exercise show you're watching. You're having fun, aren't you?"
"Yes I am Candy." He said with a giggle. "Watch me!" He said as he put her down, and he resumed dancing. He was failing miserably in mimicking the complex moves being done on the video, but that didn't stop him from laughing his head off and having the time of his life just moving his body around. Candace couldn't help but laugh with her brother as he enjoyed himself.
Linda walked in the front door. "Hey kids, I bought some-" But she stopped herself when her eyes set on her infant son dancing along to the TV screen. "Phineas?" She put her bags down and slowly approached her son, who turned his attention to Linda but continued dancing and giggling. "What on Earth are you doing?"
"Mommy! Look! The box!" He pointed to the TV while still dancing. Linda laughed.
"You are so silly!" She said picking her son up off the ground and kissing him. "Phineas, how long have you been playing with the TV?"
"I dunno. But I was playing, and then the colors, and then-"
"Hey Phineas, you wanna see something cool?" Candace said to her toddler brother. The boy squealed and nodded rapidly. Linda put him down on the ground, and he ran to Candace as fast as his little legs would go. "Check it out." She showed Phineas the channel up and channel down buttons on the TV. "See these buttons?"
"Yes Candy." Phineas said happily with absolutely no idea what was going on. Candace pushed one of the buttons, and the picture on the TV screen changed all of a sudden. Phineas was immediately taken by surprise. "NO! What happened to the little people? And the dancing? And-" Candace pressed the other button, and the dance images returned. "Yay!" He shouted as he clapped his hands rapidly. "Candy, I don't get it."
Candace picked Phineas up and held him eye level to the TV. "See, Phineas, with this TV, you can watch lots of shows. Not just this one." She explained. "Watch." She pressed the up channel button several times, slowly cycling through different shows. Phineas studied each carefully, but had absolutely no cognitive reasoning to decipher what each show actually was. He barely even understood the show he was first watching. "See Phineas?"
Phineas looked at his sister, completely confused. He started whining, utterly confused at what was going on. Reacting quickly, Candace put the dancing show back on the TV, and Phineas immediately calmed down and started laughing. This wasn't Phineas's way of acting spoiled to get what he wants. Rather, the dancing show was his most familiar experience with the TV, and therefore the one he was most comfortable with. Candace put him back on the ground and he began dancing again, attempting to imitate the moves on the screen with zero success. Linda and Candace took a seat on the couch; they couldn't help but enjoy the toddler's fun with the TV, even taking out a video camera.
"Phineas…" Candace said in a playful tone. The boy stopped in his tracks and turned to face his mother and sister. He stared at them blankly for a few seconds before smiling widely. "Can you do a little dance for us?"
The boy's eyes lit up and he started dancing right on the spot - or at least he tried to. It amounted to mostly him kicking his legs up in the air and waving his arms around. But he was hamming it up and having the time of his life, and the sister and mother couldn't help but laugh along and smile as they captured this beautiful, adorable moment.
End of Chapter 12.
