Candace came out of her room and zoomed through the hallway. She passed Phineas's room; the door was half-way open and there was some happy murmuring coming from inside. Curious, Candace opened it a little further and caught a glimpse of Phineas finger-painting on the floor. But with just the slightest creek of the door, Phineas's head bolted up and his vision caught Candace peering in. "Hi Candy!" He started waving frantically at her, causing a laugh from Candace.

Overwhelmed by the cuteness, she pounced him and gave him a big hug. "Hi Phineas! What'cha doin'?"

"I'm drawing a picture, Candy!" He giggled. She put him back down on the ground.

"Can I See?" She asked, reaching for the drawing, only to have Phineas run for it and grab it himself.

"No!" Phineas shouted.

"Why not?"

"Because it's not finished yet!"

"So?"

"Shhh!" He said to her. "It's a surprise!" He said while laughing. "I'm doing a drawing, but I want it to be a surprise so I don't want you or mommy to see it yet!"

"Will you show us when you're finished?"

"Yes!" He shouted while triumphantly holding up his paint-covered hands. "But it's not done! And I'll tell you when it's done, Candy! OK?"

"OK, Phineas. I can't wait to see your painting!"

Phineas laughed loudly and resumed painting. Candace left the room and closed the door behind her.

A little bit later, Phineas's mother passed by the door and peered inside. She too caught Phineas giggling and finger-painting on the floor. She opened the door, which caught his attention. He smiled and waved. "Hi Mommy!" He giggled.

"What are you doing, you adorable little munchkin?" She said as she pinched his cheek. He laughed.

"I'm drawing a picture!" He replied.

"Can I see it?" She asked, but Phineas started whining.

"No, Mommy! It's not finished yet! I don't want nobody to see the picture yet."

"What's the matter? Are you embarrassed?"

"Yes! I don't want you to see it because you won't like it, Mommy."

"Awww." She tussled his hair and kissed his forehead. "That's not true. I'll love anything you draw for us."

"Really? You'll love it?"

"Yes I will." Phineas reached his arms out and Linda responded with a big hug. "Will you show me and Candace your picture when you're done?"

"Yes I wlll Mommy!"

"OK, you little sweetie. I can't wait to see it." She kissed him once more and then left the room. Phineas resumed painting and laughing.

Later that day, Linda and Candace were watching TV in the living room, when they heard tiny footsteps coming from upstairs. And then a little voice popped up. "I'm finished!" He shouted as he leaped onto the stairs and raced down, holding his painting in his hands. He sped to his mother and sister and triumphantly held up his painting. There were three distinct figures made of paint on the paper, representing him, Linda, and Candace. "See, this is you, and this is Candy, and this is me!" He handed them the painting and laughed, clapping his hands together in victory.

Candace and Linda exchanged glances at each other, the painting, and the smiling toddler. They quickly felt smiles form on their own faces as Linda picked the toddler up off the floor and plopped him in her lap. "It's beautiful, Phineas."

"Do you like it Mommy?" He asked sweetly.

"I love it very much. I love it almost as much as I love you!" She kissed him and tickled him all over getting a lifetime worth of laughter from him.

"Do you like it Candy?" He asked his sister.

"I love it!" She said as she leaned in and kissed the toddler on his tiny forehead. He giggled and babbled.

"I like drawing, Mommy!"

"You're very good at drawing, Phineas." Linda said. She put him in Candace's lap and took the drawing to the refrigerator. She clipped it on to the top door of the fridge. "Here. Now it's on the fridge, so we can all look at it anytime we want."

Phineas's face beamed brightly and his mouth hung wide open in excitement. "Mommy, do you think my friends like it?" He wriggled his way out of Candace's grip and dashed for the front door.

"Phineas, where are you going?" Linda asked as she and Candace followed Phineas to the front door. He turned around quickly and smiled at them.

"I'm going to my friends! So I can show them the drawing!"

"But Phineas, how can you do that if they're not here and can't see it?" Candace said.

Phineas stood there dead silent, and quietly thought to himself. He gave his sister and mother and blank stare as his tiny brain chugged along. Then, an idea hit him. His face beamed again and he raced towards the kitchen to grab the drawing and race back to the door. "I got the drawing!"

Chuckling, Linda calmly snatched the drawing from Phineas. "No, sweetie. She meant you should wait for your friends to come over so you can show them. OK?"

Phineas again stood silent as he processed the thought. "Really?"

"Really."

"OK Mommy." He handed her back the drawing. She went and put it back up on the fridge while Candace picked Phineas up and carried him in. "Do you still like the drawing?"

"We love the drawing." Candace said to him.

"But we love you even more." Linda added, leading to them both kissing him on the cheeks and sending him into an endless loud laughter that filled the entire house with a joy only a family with an infant could experience.
