Phineas and Ferb
Baby Adventures of Phineas
Chapter 20: The Little Boy
Disclaimer: Phineas and Ferb does not belong to me. It belongs to Dan Povenmire and Jeff Swampy Marsh, who did an amazing job with this show.
Linda was sitting at the kitchen table, pen in hand, papers on table, lamp beside her. Besides the dimly lit lamp, all the lights were turned off. She was furiously writing, trying to pay all of the bills. Young Candace came into the kitchen, poured a glass of water, and set it down next to Linda on the table.
"Oh, thank you sweetie." She said as she took a sip. "I have so many bills. And to tell you the truth, I'm not sure how I'm going to make them all."
"Are we going to be okay?" Candace asked, hugging her mother's leg. Linda patted Candace's shoulder.
"Don't you worry, I'll make sure we're okay. I just wish we had a man of the house to help break even."
Little did either of them know, Phineas was easedropping behind the kitchen wall. He quietly moaned, looked at the floor, and then ran upstairs. He went into his room and opened his closet, pulling out his tiny tuxedo. "I help!" He blurted out as he tried to put it on. His tiny, one-track mind was adamant about being a helper and being a good boy. If this was a way he could do it, so be it.
As he finished putting on his tux, he could hear his sister walking through the hallway towards her room. His little legs carried him out of the room and into the hall. "Phineas?" She took notice of his tux and let out a chuckle. "Why are you dressed up?"
"Job!" He yelped out, looking crestfallen as he did. "I need a job!"
Candace almost did a double take. "A what?"
"I...need...job!" He repeated more slowly, deducing that she didn't catch him the first time. His little outburst caused him to let out a laugh himself. Still, she was confused.
"A job?" She picked him up off the floor and held him in her arms. "Why do you need a job?"
"Mommy!" He yelled again, pointing down the hallway towards the staircase. "Mommy said...we need monies!"
Now she was getting it. She realized the boy had overheard her and Linda talking, and she realized he had picked up on her distress. "Phineas...sweetie...you don't have to get a job."
Phineas wasn't buying it. He started whining and moving his arms around. "No! I'm a good boy! I need a job!" He managed to wiggle his way out of Candace's grip and ran towards the staircase...laughing while doing so.
In the kitchen, Linda heard the tiny pitter patter of Phineas's baby feet and looked up from her paperwork. A smile crossed her face; his presence always made her happy. "Why hello there-" Her attempt to lovingly greet him was interrupted by herself once she saw him wearing his little tux. "Phineas...why are you wearing your suit?"
"How do I get a job?" Were the words that came out of his mouth. He clasped his hands together and looked at the floor, a feeling of shame overcoming him. "I need a job..."
Linda hated when Phineas did this; his need to job onto responsibility that was clearly far beyond his age just in the name of "being a good boy." She put down her pen & stood up, approaching her toddler & picking him up - which always induced a laugh from him - giving him the biggest hug she could possibly give him as Candace returned to the kitchen.
"Did you overhear me talking with your sister?" She asked Phineas while looking over at Candace, who somberly nodded. "Phineas, you know you're not a man yet, right?" The toddler moaned but nodded his tiny head. "You are a wonderful, good boy. But you're just a boy. It's not your responsibility to worry about me or your sister. It's your responsibility to be a kid."
He agreed, evidenced by the small smile crossing his face. He gently kissed his mother's cheek. "But I want to help. I don't want to see Mommy sad..."
She nuzzled him against her. "Okay, so what kind of job would you get?"
He looked up and shrugged; every body movement he made was adorable & innocent. "I dunno. But I need monies."
"No, Phineas. You need to be a kid." Candace said, walking over & tussling the boy's hair, which got him to loudly giggle.
"It's not your job to worry about us. We'll be fine, no matter what. Do you want to know what job you can have right now?"
His eyes instantly lit up & he responded with rapid clapping. "YAY MOMMY!"
They brought him back to his room, changed him into pajamas, and took out his toy chest, opening it to reveal a large treasure trove of toys for him. "Your job...is to play with these toys."
He switched looking between the toy chest and his mother & sister. "Toys?"
"Yes Phineas. Toys."
Again, he looked at the chest before looking back at his family. "Do I get monies?"
Candace & Linda exchanged looks this time before knelling down to look at their pride & joy. "Would you like to get paid in hugs instead?"
The boy's eyes once again lit up & he engaged in rapid clapping. "Hugs!" He loved hugs; he stuck his hands out hoping to get one right then and there. The two happily obliged, embracing the boy & smothering him in kisses. His laughter grew louder as he was smothered with more love. They hated his desire to "be the man" when he was so young & innocent, but they loved & cherished his devotion to them. They knew that no matter what, he was going to grow up to be a wonderful, amazing kid that everyone he met would adore.
And they were right.
End of Chapter 20.
Surprise.
It's been way too long since I updated this one, hasn't it? I'm sure that whatever readers were sticking with this one are gone now, and I accept that. Honestly, if it weren't for Candace Against The Universe, I might not have even gotten the motivation to do this chapter.
I haven't abandoned fanfics completed: recently I've developed a special obsession with Star vs The Forces of Evil and have been heavily working on fanfics for that. Check my profile page if you're interested.
If I do return to PnF fanfics, it'll probably be just this one. This one is relatively easy to write - you know, when I HAVE the drive to write for it - and it's not supposed to be a long, complicated series. Just a nice series of short chapters about infant Phineas, who is adorable & must be protected.
And that's all I have to say. Stream Candace Against the Universe on Disney Plus if you haven't yet, it's really good.
