Author's note:

Hello everyone reading this!

.

Before you start with this series, it's important I point out some details, to avoid confusion.

This is the Forsaken Queen AU, which is spread out over 3 books;

Book 1: The Troll War

Book 2: Pseudo Heir

Book 3: New Lineage

.

This story is following book 2: Pseudo Heir. If you notice changes to this story, it's because I forgot to add these details in, until now. This was started when someone jokingly asked for a Kameo 2 and I was too tempted to really put the idea aside. That said, I have a lot of Kameo stories on here, even comics (Kameo: Reborn and Kalus: The Mystic's Revenge) but I have decided to rewrite all of this into the single AU of Forsaken Queen.

.

Yes, this means that there will be a comic adaption of Forsaken Queen once the first book is complete. I will be doing this in my own time, due to having too many projects already, but that aside, in these stories I will be referencing content from Kameo that is official canon, by marking content like this:

.
*Example*

.

Anything that is bold, underlined and has the two asterisks, is official canon that can be found in the Kameo Discord server, just put the following on the end of Discord and you'll find it:

.
/VsN9B6W

or look us up on Disboard, we should be on there :)

.

Also I tend to post Chapters early in the Discord server, before posting here, or even on my DeviantArt as well.

Because I am doing so many stories/comics that essentially tell the same story on the characters, I decided to merge it all into one AU, so my other Kameo AUs may be deleted in the future, to focus on this single one.

.

With all this out of the way, please enjoy the story, and don't worry about feedback, this is all for fun, so enjoy yourselves :)

Kameo 2:

The Forsaken Queen

Chapter 1:

Frosty Morning

.

That morning, brought a cold chill. Like a ghost of dread, whispering a song of sweet misery.

.

So many things to do, so many responsibilities. Everything outside her bed seemed like it was judging her, waiting to analyse and tear down every step and action taken outside of it, even resting there, she could feel judgement from unseen eyes.

.

Just opening her eyes felt like a battle, only to be burned by the intense glare of the sun. A groan before rolling over and rubbing her eyes. She knew that with her new responsiblities, she shouldn't be laying in bed, there was so much to do and learn, but at the same time, she just couldn't bring herself to do it.

.

Timp tap timp tap.

.

"Why are you still in bed?" Footsteps, then a weight to her left.

"Are you ill?"

A shaking of her head was her answer.

.

In response, was a heavy sigh.

.

"I know it's been hard, taking on your new role as queen with so many responsibilities and duties, but the kingdom won't wait for you, and I won't always be here to wake you from your stubborn slumber, my dear Kameo."

.

Her green eyes opened and she rolled over, staring at her mother. Queen Theena sat, staring with a soft smile, no longer wearing her headrest, having her black hair tied back into a bun with a more subtle tiara. From here, her dark bags could be seen.

.

Kameo looked to the side, wanting to say something, but unsure of how to address it. Theena picked up on this and had a feeling of what she wanted to ask, but didn't want to talk about it either.

.

"Your breakfast is ready, it's time to rise and meet the day." Theena walked out after dusting her dress off, leaving Kameo still laying in bed and staring after her silently. She was right, she did need to get up. So get up she did.

.

As Kameo prepared for the day, she opened her wardrobe, finding her usual green attire. Picking up the two pieces of clothing, she shut her eyes and sighed.

.

*Two years ago*

.

"You're really going to wear that?" The red head asked, raising an eyebrow as Kameo nodded. She had felt like she needed a change, something to shake things up for her, since things were just too routine for her now.

.

Routine, meaning boring.

.

She had wondered into the Royal Library and found herself drawn to the books on ancient Elven tribes. Flipping through the pages, her eyes gleamed at how sleek and strong the elves looked. To her, it felt right.

.

...of course she wanted to get Kalus' thoughts on it. They hadn't been close in years, but she still made an effort, as did Kalus when she wasn't studying relentlessly.

.

"I'd like to! It just feels...I dunno, right? Kinda like me." Kalus squinted.

"You can see her rear end." Kameo turned the page around, realising she had pointed to an elf wearing a loin cloth, when she meant the one to the left, wearing what would be known as her iconic outfit.

.

"No, no, this one here." She tapped on said drawing as Kalus chuckled.

"I still think that's too short Kameo." Said elf just scoffed playfully while rolling her eyes.

.

"Okay, okay, then what would you choose out of all these?"

"Me?"

Kalus seemed genuinely taken back by this, taking the book from Kameo and looking the page over, before turning through the pages, an eyebrow raised curiously. This made Kameo smile. She always appreciated it whenever Kalus would entertain her notions. She only hoped that they would have more chances to spend time like this after Kalus became queen.

.

Said redhead glanced at Kameo again, looking her up and down, muttering something and flipping more pages. Kameo quietly chuckled at her sister taking this seriously, when she expected her to brush off the idea entirely as nonsense.

.

"This one, I think, would suit you better."

.

What Kalus had found was somewhat similar to her original finding, but had a more adventurous feel to it. The top wasn't two pieces of fabric secured with buttons, but was instead a solid piece, much like a sleeveless top with a few cords lacing up the chest, containing similar markings to the first design.

.

The skirt was more of a thicker, longer loincloth with a thin type of pants underneath, complete with satchets strapped onto the jacket. This jacket contained a large hood and chest pockets, adorned with colourful buttons. The boots were much shorter than her original choice, having two belts and buckles on the sides of the ankle. There was a somewhat more rugged look to this and the elf in the picture had a much messier hair than the first.

.

"I like it!" Again, Kalus seemed surprised, but quickly covered it by scoffing.

"Of course you do, I chose it." Kameo snorted when Kalus playfully winked at her, shoving the book into her sister's arms.

.

"So, you're going to start dressing like that now?" She shrugged, leaning against the wall while hugging the book.

.

"I guess, I just feel like something is missing." Kalus seemed surprised and partially alarmed by this. "So I thought, maybe I just need a new look, you know, to find me or whatever." She said, shrugging her shoulders as Kalus looked at a loss for words. Kameo noticed the silence and looked up, noticing she was staring off in the distance.

.

"Kalus? Spacing out for me is normal, but for you, it's kinda scary." Kalus playfully shoved Kameo.

.

"Of course, you hardly use any mental energy, little sister." Kameo chuckled, turned and ran off to the seamstress as Kalus chuckled briefly, only to look off to the side quietly again, a solemn look on her face.

.

*The Present*

.

Kameo gripped her old outfit, letting out a heavy sigh. She remembered after the airship, when they returned, everyone celebrated. They all cheered, clapped and a chorus of her name being called out by the tribesmen...by her people.

.

She dropped it, glancing to the side at a dusty old book at the back of the wardrobe. It was the book that she and Kalus... her hand had stopped just from touching the book.

.

"Kameo, must I call you again?" She jumped, seeing Theena standing there with a somewhat annoyed look. "Your food is getting cold, hurry up child." Kameo only nodded, quickly grabbing her old outfit and throwing it on, tossing her sleeping gown towards her bed, walking out hurridly as it missed said bed.

.

Walking out to the large table, Theena had already sat down to her meal, across from Halis and Lenya, who were discussing something about a meeting coming up with the Florian tribe, but Yeros was nowhere to be seen.

.

Kameo flopped into her seat, staring at her food.

.

"Kameo, honey, you alright hun?" Lenya asked, noticing something was off with her.

Kameo only nodded silently in response, while her thoughts were elsewhere.

.

Two years... two years since it happened, but it still feels like only yesterday. She glanced over at her Mother, seeing her eat as if nothing was wrong. The only sign that Theena wasn't 100% was the dark bags under her eyes.

.

Were they always there and her hat hid it, or was that gradual? Kameo rubbed her own eyes, wondering how she never noticed that until now. She began questioning her intelligence and observation skills over this.

.

"Come on kiddo, eat up! There's a lot that you have to prepare for. Being Queen isn't easy, you know." Halis said in jest, as Kameo only glanced up.

.

"I never thought it was...then again I never thought I'd be filling the role either..." She mumbled under her breath. Theena heard this and glanced off awkwardly. She placed her fork down, having finished her food, stood and turned to her daughter.

.

"Whether you asked for this or not, it is your duty now. Your training up until this point has been to catch you up on the basics, but you still have a long way to go before you..." She cleared her throat.

.

"The next stage of your training begins today. We have a meeting with the Florian Tribe to discuss important matters, regarding the trolls." Kameo's ears perked up at this.

.

"Wait, the trolls? I thought they disbanded after Kalus defeated Thorn?"

"Since you defeated Thorn, yes most of them disbanded from his army, but there are still some stragglers causing terror in his name." Theena 'corrected' her, as she always did whenever Kameo tried to set the record straight. Since then, Theena stopped acknowledging Kalus' existence. She wouldn't even say her name anymore.

.

"Mother, you can't keep ignoring-"

"Enough. Prepare for the meeting, the Florians will arrive within the hour." Kameo felt her chest tighten. She and Kalus never got along well, but every time her Mother did this, she felt so...so gross. So wrong. Kameo looked over to Halis and Lenya, both giving her sympathetic looks as Kameo sighed, turning and walking to her room.

.

"Theena...it's been two years. She's your own daughter-"

"I don't want to hear it." Theena turned and walked off to her chamber. Along the way, she passed Kalus' room, her step faltering. She glanced at the door.

.

*Two years ago*

.

"KAMEO, KAMEO, IT'S ALWAYS ABOUT KAMEO!" Kalus screamed, tears stinging her eyes.

.

Theena had sent a note to both of her daughters, but Kalus had arrived much earlier than she had hoped. A scroll and quill laid on the ground where she had dropped them, after seeing Theena give Kameo everything she had ever worked for.

.

"THIS IS THE ONE THING, THE ONE SINGLE THING THAT I HAVE IN MY LIFE AND YOU HAVE THE ABSOLUTE AUDACITY TO DO THIS?!" Kameo stood awkwardly to the side, the Element of Power sitting snugly in her tiara. Kalus was angry. She had had enough of Theena's game.

.

Theena stared at Kalus. This may have been the first time that anyone, let alone her own daughter, raised their voice at her like this.

.

"WHY DO YOU DO THIS?! WHY?! I GAVE UP EVERYTHING FOR THIS, I HAVE SPENT MY ENTIRE LIFE TRAINING TO BE QUEEN, TO PROTECT THIS KINGDOM AND IT'S PEOPLE, AND YOU GIVE IT ALL TO KAMEO?! THIS UNTRAINED BRAT WHO HAS NO EXPERIENCE, NO MAGIC, -SHE'S NOT EVEN THE OLDEST HEIR!" Theena's fist clenched.

.

"SHE HAS LITERALLY EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING! NO MATTER WHAT IT IS, YOU DROP WHATEVER YOU'RE DOING TO GIVE HER EVERY WISH AND DESIRE SHE COULD EVER WANT, YET YOU CAN'T BE BOTHERED GIVING ME THE TIME OF DAY! GODS FORBID IF YOUR OWN DAUGHTER WANTS THE ONE THING HER FATHER LEFT BEHIND FOR HER! DO YOU EVEN CARE-"

.

*slap*

.

"You know nothing about the King." Kalus' cheek stung, but she still held a fierce look in her eyes.

"I know that he would despise the person you have become." Theena's eyes narrowed. Kameo looked stunned, but she nervously reached a hand to Kalus' shoulder.

.

"I'm sorry-" Kalus shrugged her off and stormed out. Theena stared silently after her, only noticing Kameo's look. She was nearly in tears. "I...I-I shouldn't have this." Kameo turned to go after her but Theena rushed ahead.

.

She would make her apologise.

*Present*

"I know that he would despise the person you have become." Theena muttered, clenching her fist, before turning and walking faster to her room.

.

'KAMEO, KAMEO, IT'S ALWAYS ABOUT KAMEO!'

.

Kalus' voice echoed in her head. Theena shook her own violently, pinching the bridge of her nose. She had been fighting this for two years. The feelings, the memories...she wanted none of it, but still they fought to reach the surface, and always at inopportune moments as well.

.

As soon as Kameo turns 18, she would be coronated, become queen and then the memories would be put to rest forever. Through natural or magical means, whatever it took. Theena stifled a hiccup, biting her lip in anger. She hated these feelings. She knew what she did was right...

.

...right?
