Episode 2 Part 3
Finally taking a moment to regroup and recover from their supply run the group gathered once again, checking over their supplies.
"Well, we've got a good amount of food and ammo, plenty of water...But no gas." Niko mused.
Marin sighed. "So, we've got no choice then, we searched as far as we could...we can't use these cars anymore."
The others shared a worried look while Marko then asked. "So, what do we do now, we need to think of our next move."
"Yeah...we need to determine where to go, somewhere safe for the kids especially." Zlata added.
"At least as safe as we can be..." Arica muttered.
The others shared a worried look and finally Mara spoke up.
"It's going to be winter soon." She remarked. "That might hopefully slow the Walkers down, but Walkers aren't our only problem of course."
"True...but right now, we need to figure out what we're gonna do to stay alive." Arica added.
"I know it won't be easy on the kids...or..." Niko began hesitantly.
As he hesitated, his gaze drifted over Anton and Henrik but they both smiled.
"We're more hardy than you think, young man." Anton remarked.
Henrik nodded, laughing softly. "We can keep up with you young ones."
Ivano smiled up at his grandfather admiringly as Niko nodded slowly.
He considered and looked around at the others, the way they looked towards him, their concern, waiting for their next moves.
"Alright, we'll make a choice...we'll vote." Niko explained. "I'd rather we stick together as we leave, but we'll be walking and we don't know exactly where we are going. If there's anyone who wants to leave or go their own way...then you know not to raise your hand. So, those in favour of going together."
Perhaps unsurprisingly everybody raised their hand in favour. Despite his weakened state, even Grozdan managed to raise his hand.
"Unanimous." Niko announced. "Alright, let's, let's get ready...we can't wait any time."
They nodded and began gathering up what they needed, arranging it so they could each carry as much as they could, trying not to leave anything behind except for the now useless cars. The cars where searched for any useful contents inside just in case and soon, with everything set, they prepared themselves.
"Okay, here we go, everyone ready?" Anton asked at last.
The others nodded and Misha took Mara's hand, Lydia took a place between Arica and Niko who were leading the group. Sergei seemed hesitant but eventually took up a place next to Zlata while Pavle, Marko, Marin, Cveta and Anton were in the bulk of the group too, while Henrik and Ivano brought up the rear, Bruno nearby. Finally, in pretty much the middle of the group, Katia helped Grozdan while also holding Kalina's hand and they were ready and soon began heading out, looking for their next destination.
Almost a week later, the group made their way through the woods, wary, as they searched for somewhere, anywhere, they could take shelter, Katia kept her arm around Grozdan as he was still traumatized over losing his hand.
"It's okay Grozdan, you're gonna be okay." She whispered to him.
Grozdan trembled, but managed a smile, feeling calmer. Despite their previous issues, he felt glad that he had Katia caring for him like this. Meanwhile Mara was walking hand in hand with Misha, rubbing her thumb over his hand comfortingly. They had been walking for quite a while now and she could tell he was getting restless. All the kids were. She knew they needed to find shelter soon. It was then Arica noticed something and spoke up, drawing their attention.
"Hey, there's a camp ahead...looks pretty small, don't see anyone around." She remarked.
Mara started and followed the others as they approached, finding a small clearing in the woods, in which was a medium sized tent, an old campfire and not much else.
"We should be careful, we don't know if the people who own this camp are friendly..." Mara cautioned.
Arica nodded and looked around, noting. "It looks abandoned, there's...nobody."
Roman narrowed his eyes as he approached the embers of the fire and examines them carefully.
"Not quite..." He remarked warningly. "This fire only went out a few moments ago, the embers are still hot."
The others looked around warily, Lydia immediately moving close to Arica, Kalina with Katia and Ivano with Henrik while Sergei hesitated for a moment, before moving towards Zlata. Mara instantly wrapped an arm around Misha, pulling him closer to her.
"Whoever it is can't be far then...maybe we should go, we don't know what we could be up against..." Mara said worriedly.
Niko nodded. "Perhaps..."
But then everybody tensed when they heard the bushes nearby rustle, as well as the small gasp.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
