Episode 3 Part 1
Taking great care the group worked on preparing things for the arrival of the bandits. Marko, Pavle and Roman scouted the surrounding area, picking out ideal ambush locations, while also being wary for any sign of Walkers. Meanwhile, under Marin's direction, Cveta, Niko and Arica worked on setting up traps that they could use to put a stop to any potential reinforcements as well as deal with any bandits trying to flee. Meanwhile Katia sat with Grozdan, doing her best to help him as he continued to struggle with coping in regards to his missing hand, together they watched over the other kids who sat talking together, aware of the danger but trying to stay calm. Meanwhile, Mara, Zlata, Anton, Henrik, Bruno and Christo checked over their weapons, making sure they would be all ready for the upcoming fight.
As she finished loading up another gun, Mara pondered for a moment before speaking up.
"So Christo, how did you and Iskra end up here?"
Christo paused in loading up a gun himself, before sighing. "Well...when this all started, Iskra and I were at our home, in one of the cities not too far from here..."
The others shared an uneasy look at Zlata realized.
"So, you guys saw first hand when things went...wrong?" She queried.
"Yes." Christo confirmed. "Our neighbours started turning, attacking each other, it was all I could do to get Iskra out alive...since then, we tried to survive, day to day...until we came here. Now we're trapped, those bandits found us, I tried to reason with them but..."
"But they forced you into that deal." Mara realized, grimacing.
Bruno narrowed his eyes. "Why didn't you just, leave, find somewhere else?"
"We would've if we could've...but where is there?" Christo replied. "Besides, if we did leave, they'd just hunt us down."
"A fair point." Bruno agreed with a sigh.
They worked in silence again for a while until finally, after a short pause, Zlata asked.
"So, is it just you and your daughter?"
Christo nodded. "Yes, well...in a way, yes. My wife Ana, Iskra's mother...she was out visiting her mother when this all happened. I've no idea what happened to her after that. There was no time. I can only hope she is safe somewhere."
The others lapsed into an uncomfortable silence after that, realizing what he meant.
Before long they'd finished setting up the weapons and the traps and everyone had regrouped.
"Okay, we've got everything ready, we need to make sure everyone is in position and ready for when the bandits arrive." Roman explained.
Mara gently squeezed Misha's shoulder as she spoke. "What about the kids...they can't fight."
"I...I could've helped you fight." Grozdan spoke up. "Before..."
He helplessly looked down at the stump of his left hand.
Katia nodded. "Yes, we understand Grozdan...we'll have to keep the kids safe."
The others shared worried looks, the kids too until finally Niko spoke up.
"Alright, Katia, Mara, Cveta, take the kids to that safe location we saw, along with Grozdan. Hold up there and protect them." He paused and then added. "The rest of us should take up our positions, we're almost out of time. We need to be ready when the bandits arrive."
The others all nodded and soon they all moved to take up their places, with those assigned to watch the kids taking them to the safe spot. Christo meanwhile readied his gun and kept it hidden from view. He stood in the camp, the supplies safely stashed and he waited, ready for them to come, it was time to finally end this.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
