Episode 4 Part 1
In the two months that had passed, there was no denying it was well and truly winter. That much was obvious to all, especially Arica and Mara as they trudged through the snow, working their way through the tracks they had made on their way out. Returning to the others after their supply run. They had luckily had the good fortune of finding a small gated community where they had managed to hole up, checking it was clear first, and stockpile their supplies, as well as find some warmer clothing at last. Hence the change in attire for the two women as Arica now wore black snow pants, a dark blue T-shirt under a purple jacket and dark blue boots, meanwhile Mara wore thick cargo pants, a grey thermal and a white jacket with white boots.
"Almost there." Mara remarked. "I'm glad we found those tins of food."
Arica nodded, smiling. "Yeah, combined with what we already have, it'll last for a while. The snow seems to have really slowed the Walkers down too...someone of them have even stopped."
Mara looked around. "I know what you mean, we can use that to our advantage at least."
The conversation tapered off however as they finally approached the gate and saw they were expected.
After quickly checking for Walkers, Misha, now clad in jeans, a white long sleeved top under a heavy brown coat, still wearing his blue hunting hat with ear flaps and blue scarf, hurried out towards Mara. The gate had been opened by Roman and Marin who stood nearby, clad respectively in black jeans, a white tank-top under a black parka and brown boots and a pair of dark grey snow pants, a white shirt under a brown leather jacket and brown boots.
"Mara!" Misha greeted her enthusiastically as they hugged. "Are you okay, you didn't run into any Walkers?"
She shook her head. "No, I'm fine Misha, we both are, c'mon, let's get inside."
"Good idea." Marin nodded, "How did it go?"
"We got more food." Arica explained.
Once they were inside and the gate closed Roman gestured.
"You guys go on, I'll take one more look around the perimeter, make sure it's clear." He explained.
They nodded in agreement and began heading to the biggest house in the gated community, where they mostly kept holed up for now. They reached the door and opened it, stepping inside, almost at once they found Zlata waiting for them, clad in grey snow pants with a white T-shirt under her beige parka and black boots.
"Mara, Arica, you guys made it." She gasped. "Thank God."
Mara smiled, putting her arm around Misha's shoulders. "Of course...it's just as we noted...the Walkers are much slower or stopped altogether."
"It won't last, that's the problem." Arica reminded her.
They nodded, knowing that all too well before heading into the main room of the house where the others were.
They spotted Niko seated with Marko, Pavle, Henrik and Anton, again all dressed in new clothes. Niko in black jeans with a white T-shirt under a black parka, black gloves and grey snow boots while Marko wore jeans, a blue long sleeved top under a dark blue jacket and black boots. Pavle was wearing black pants with a black long sleeved top, a grey parka and black boots. Meanwhile Anton wore dark pants, a dark blue shirt under a dark blue jacket, black gloves and black boots. Finally Henrik wore black pants, a white shirt under a dark red jacket, black gloves and black boots.
All five wore the same concerned expression, clearly talking about something.
Mara smiled softly as Misha went to join the other kids, spotting Lydia right away, clad in pink snow pants, a white T-shirt with matching snow jacket and black boots. Also right there with them was Kalina, clad in grey pants, a white T-shirt under a pink jacket, white boots and her beanie. Sergei and Ivano then joined them, respectively clad in jeans, a green T-shirt under a dark green jacket and brown boots and a pair of black jeans, a blue T-shirt under a dark blue jacket and brown boots. Finally was Iskra, clad in ripped jeans, a white T-shirt and matching jacket and brown boots.
All the kids were under the watchful eye of Grozdan, clad in simple jeans, a brown shirt, brown jacket, brown boots and a black glove. He had somewhat adjusted to his missing hand, but not completely. Also watching the kids were Cveta and Christo, respectively clad in white snow pants, a dark red blouse, beige coat and white boots and khaki pants, a black long sleeved shirt, dark green turtleneck jacket and brown boots.
Bruno, clad in cargo pants, a red shirt, red jacket and brown boots, was busy fixing up a meal for them all, one of his most useful skills as a chef it turned out was how to make a delicious filling meal for several people, using the least amount of their food supplies. This meant, for the first time since everything started, they actually had extra food.
Finally Mara spotted Katia approaching them, clad in black jeans, a blue tank-top under a black parka and black boots. She smiled warmly.
"Hey, good to see you guys back." She said to both Mara and Arica. "How'd it go?"
Arica nodded. "Pretty good."
They handed over the food supplies to Katia and Mara then nodded towards Niko and the others.
"What's got them worried?"
Katia sighed. "They're all concerned, really concerned. About that other group possibly finding us. The one that bandit mentioned."
"I think it's a little bit...obsessive." Bruno suddenly spoke up. "I mean think about it. It's a little convenient that a bandit would say something like that, after we'd all but finished him off."
Arica narrowed her eyes. "What, you don't think they exist?"
"I think if they did, they would've found us by now." Bruno replied; sounding more like he hoped they didn't exist rather than he believed they didn't.
Before anything else could be said on the matter however they heard a noise, something of a commotion outside, instantly grabbing their attention as Mara remembered Roman was still out there.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
