Episode 4 Part 2
Anxious over the noise, the group hurried outside into the snow, looking around quickly, they soon spotted Roman and hurried over to him.
"Roman." Mara called.
Roman held up his hand, keeping his other hand aiming his gun at something. Realizing something was going on they made their way closer, more cautiously until they saw what, or rather, who he was aiming at. It was a woman of twenty-nine with long light brown hair pulled into a ponytail, she had blue eyes and fair skin along with a tall, athletically toned build and was clad in jeans, a plaid flannel shirt under a dark blue parka and white boots.
"Whoa, c'mon now, easy." She said anxiously.
Niko spoke up quickly. "Roman, what's going on?"
Roman glared, nodding towards the woman. "Caught her sneaking around, she got in somehow and from the looks of things she's been spying on us."
The woman shook her head, hands still raised. "Please, it's not what you think, just please hear me out."
Roman snorted. "Not what it looks like, when I catch you skulking in the shadows, watching us, that looks like spying to me."
"I was trying to see if you were...dangerous, if I could approach you." The woman explained.
The others shared a worried look at that.
Mara quirked an eyebrow. "Approach us?"
Niko sighed. "Let's not make rash judgements, we'll hear her out, then we'll decide what to do."
The others agreed and Roman grunted before nodding, although he still kept his weapon ready.
Relaxing slightly the woman nodded.
"Right, sorry, you're right, I was acting kinda suspicious." She explained. "But you hear about dangerous groups out there who'll take advantage of you, or kill you for trespassing on their 'turf'. I just wanted to be sure I could talk to you guys before I approached."
It was then Katia asked the pertinent question. "Who are you?"
Marin then added his words. "What are you doing here?"
"My name's Britta." The woman explained. "I used to be a mechanic before all this went down...lost my family, right in front of me. Then I joined a group, before they were all lost too..."
The others shared a worried look. They knew the pain of losing someone, but it sounded like Britta had endured far worse, they had only lost a few people so far, but she seemed to have lost everyone.
"God that's...that's terrible." Pavle whispered. "I'm so sorry..."
Britta nodded. "Y-yah, well, I've managed to find another group and we're small but, we're surviving. Not easy for us right now what with it being winter and all. We're running out of food...That's why I'm here."
"Oh?"
"Yeah, I was hoping you guys could help, that you might have some food to spare." Britta explained.
The group shared a look at that, surprised that food was all she was asking for.
Still, they had food to spare, they could certainly consider her request.
"Well, I think we could do that." Mara said softly. "What do you guys think?"
Roman shrugged. "I suppose."
Some of the others nodded while Niko thought for a moment.
"You sure food is all you want?" Bruno asked pointedly.
He was clearly still suspicious but before any of the others could question him, Britta shrugged.
"What else were you expecting, me to ask if my group and I could join you guys?" She countered. "I don't know about you, but to me it seems like that would be asking for trouble. We hardly know each other, our groups wouldn't trust each other and besides. A place like this, too many people inside would be dangerous."
The others couldn't help but agree to that and Bruno nodded, conceding her point.
"Alright then." Niko said at last. "We can spare some food for you and your group, just hold on."
He nodded to Marko and Katia who hurried to get it.
"Thanks." Britta said with a smile. "You've probably saved all the lives of my group."
Pavle smiled too. "Just glad we could help."
Soon Marko and Katia returned with the food. Some in a backpack, the rest boxed up. Britta took them and thanked them again before making her way towards the gate this time, having climbed over a wall at first. They watched her go, closing the gate behind her as she disappeared into the trees, returning to her group.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
