Episode 5 Part 4

Niko looked around anxiously at the others as they were finally left alone. They were in the Pen, which turned out to be an outdoor prison like area. Apart from a large reinforced roller shutter door there was no way in or out, there was no roof, just four large walls covered with spikes and barbed wire on three sides. On the fourth was the main building itself.

"Niko..." Arica whispered to him.

He turned to her, taking her hand and nodded. "I know Arica, I know..."

She was still haunted by the groping she had endured and could only imagine what Katia was going through. The other woman that had returned were doing their best to reassure the rest of the group, but it wasn't easy.

"Mommy, big brother..." Kalina sobbed as she curled up on one of the beds in the area.

Almost at once, Lydia and Iskra hurried over to her and began trying to comfort her. It was enough to bring at least a small smile to the faces of some of the group, to see the girls having such strong bonds.

'I just hope it's enough to get Kalina through this.' Niko thought sadly. "We...we can't just, sit around doing nothing, we have to think of something, some way out of here."

Bruno shook his head. "C'mon, are you crazy, all those people out there, working for that lunatic, what chance do we have?"

There was silence for a while as the others considered this, worriedly.

That was until, surprisingly, Emilia broke it.

"Not all of them." She said. "Not everyone out there is with him, Britta, she's just...she was like us, about a month ago, before being caught and brought here. She's only a few days out of this pen herself. But if she saw even the smallest chance to escape, such as with us, she'd help."

The others shared a look at that and finally Henrik spoke. "So, you're saying, we'll have someone on the inside to help, if we're trying to come up with an escape plan."
Emilia nodded but then Marko sighed.

"It's too risky to ask her surely, I mean, what if she-"

"What other choice do we have?" Pavle interrupted.

Zlata sighed. "Maybe we shouldn't worry about this right now. It's late, we're all tired and afraid and have no idea what's gonna happen tomorrow."

"Zlata's right." Niko agreed. "We need to rest and save our energy for now. We'll find a way, we have to."

The others nodded and soon they began moving to the various beds, trying to at least get comfortable and help the kids who were the most scared.

Even if Ivano wouldn't admit it. "I'm not scared grandpa, no way."

"It's okay to be scared Ivano." Henrik reassured him.

"But I'm not." The little boy insisted.

His brave front however was enough that the other kids, seeing it, managed to at least find some courage, even the distraught Kalina and the group was able to rest. They certainly knew they needed it, not knowing what to expect the following day. One by one the members of the group dropped off to sleep, until Niko remained awake.

He tried to take in the area, to see if anything at all stood out that could be useful. But the only thing that caught his eye was what looked like a broken pulley and rope system. He had no idea how that could be even remotely useful, especially given how high it was off the ground. Seeing nothing else he slipped into a troubled sleep, wondering what would come next.
