Episode 7 Part 4
At once there was chaos as others tried to restrain members of the group from breaking cover.
"Misha, no, Misha!" Mara cried out in horror.
It took Marko and Pavle to restrain Katia and Grozdan.
"Kalina, Kalina!" Grozdan cried out.
Meanwhile Katia was broken by Kalina running off and sobbing. Left in complete danger and with things breaking down, it was too late for those who did end up getting away to safety in the woods to realize that they'd been separated. Zlata was dismayed by Sergei running and Christo was terrified for Iskra. They only just managed to break away and soon tried desperately to regroup as Niko felt overwhelmed by the disappearance of Lydia, the girl who had become like a daughter to him.
"Shit, Niko, this didn't-" Roman growled.
Niko shook his head. "I know, I...urgh, shit...Who is all here?"
They looked around, trying to establish who remained and who was missing, what they could do to try and work out their next move.
"We've lost Henrik and Anton now..." Roman said quietly. "All six kids ran off...and Cveta went after them."
Marko then stepped up. "Yeah, it's not looking good, Cveta may be a teacher and good at dealing with kids, but Ivano just lost his grandfather. Saw him shot and devoured before his eyes..."
"And she's not exactly a survival expert." Roman added. "Things aren't looking good there."
This merely brought more panic and sobbing from Katia and Zlata especially. Niko took note of them and looked around.
"Who else is here..." He asked again.
They all spoke up and Niko took note of them. The others present were Marin, Grozdan, Pavle, Bruno, Christo and Emilia. That was when they realized their problem, they had no choice but to head to the nearest landmark and regroup again, but they realized now that Mara, Arica and Britta were still missing.
Mara was frozen, looking around in dismay. She was trapped in the now irate herd, the gunfire was still going off. So many were being killed, Misha was gone, the kids were gone.
'Henrik, oh Henrik, poor man, he...he was only wanting to keep his grandson safe.' She thought in dismay. 'What am I going to do, nobody is around, I can't...how can I get out of here...there's too many of them?'
She grimaced, the only thing keeping her safe right now was the Walker guts covering her.
"Mara." A voice hissed, getting her attention.
She turned and was startled to see she wasn't the only one still present in the herd, Britta was here too.
"What do we do?" Mara asked at once.
Britta shook her head. "I don't know, we're stuck, I can't see any way out and-"
There was a scream that caught their attention, Mara instantly drew her gun and they looked around, suddenly stopping as they then saw the sight at last. It was Bozena, trying to escape, but she had fallen victim to the herd and was being devoured.
"Help, please, help!" She cried.
Mara grimaced, taking aim.
Britta cut in. "What are you doing, you can't save her, they've already halfway eaten her."
"I know but, I can end it for her here, rather than have her continue to be in pain." Mara reasoned.
"But is it worth the bullet, considering all she did?" Britta asked, eyes narrowing.
Mara froze at that, considering, Britta was right. This was the woman who had humiliated, tortured and sexually abused Grozdan, all the more so due to his missing hand. She lowered her gun and turned away, leaving the walkers to devour Bozena, leaving her to the fate that she deserved.
It was then they saw someone approaching them and tensed.
But then the figure spoke. "Mara, Britta, thank god."
It was Arica.
"Arica, you-" Mara gasped.
She gestured. "Quick, follow me, there is a way out, but for how long, I can't say."
"What do you mean?" Britta asked, confused.
"I got out, made it to the woods, the others already escaped. But then I looked back and saw the two of you were still here so I came back to get you." Arica explained. "We can still take the path I used if we're quick, it'll still be open, now c'mon."
They nodded and quickly began to follow her, still amazed that Arica had actually come back for them. To their relief Arica's route was still open and they were able to slip out and hurried into the safety of the woods, finally escaping the herd and leaving the compound to get fully overrun.
End of chapter, so they've escaped, but all is still not well, read and review please.
