Episode 8 Part 2
With everything secured the group had taken up residence in the building they had checked and were settling in for the night. They had found enough water that allowed them to clean up their clothes as much as possible. Having finished with that Mara smiled at Misha, fixing his hat on his head. Misha smiled back as they looked around taking note of everyone else, especially when they noticed that those who were beginning to form familial attachments, or even genuine family units were readying themselves to sleep together, to comfort each other. Meanwhile others simply set themselves down to sleep, on their own.
'We've lost so much, but we...we've made it this far.' She reflected. 'We have real hope for the future, we can build a good and happy future for a change, we just need to find a place.'
She smiled at that thought and took note of Roman seated by the entrance of the building on watch, Bruno lay in his own sleeping bag, Emilia on the opposite side doing the same, Marin also lying nearby, as was Cveta, ready to take their respective turns on watch too. The others all slept in groups, either forming a family unit or simply comforting one of the children, although in one case, it looking like a romance was already beginning to blossom as Pavle and Britta lay together, holding each other, talking quietly, the look in their eyes made Mara smile, hopeful for their future.
As they walked through the room, looking for a place to lie down, Mara couldn't help but smile at the sight of Zlata hugging Sergei, doing her best to comfort the boy, who finally no longer felt pain from his injuries. Meanwhile Iskra was comforted by his father, Christo more than willing to keep his little butterfly safe. Meanwhile Niko and Arica held each other, their relationship stronger than ever, as they also hugged Lydia between them, having taken to the girl who had become like a daughter to them. Finally she noted Kalina curled up against her big brother, Grozdan held her close while Katia held both kids and Marko, lying on the other side, held all three of them, all holding each other as they took comfort from each other, forming a true family unit together.
Mara smiled. 'They're all pulling together, things are looking hopeful, all except...'
Misha noticed too and spoke up. "Mara, Ivano's all alone, can't we help him?"
"Of course sweetheart, that's a good idea." She agreed.
Together they approached the lonely and distraught Ivano who lay curled up under his own blanket, sobbing, thumb in his mouth.
"Ivano..." Misha said softly.
The boy looked up at them, eyes swimming with tears.
Mara knelt down and opened up her arms. "It's okay sweetheart, you're not alone, we're here."
"Mara." He sobbed.
He crawled to her and she hugged him closely, stroking his hair and humming a lullaby to him softly. Misha rested against Mara, gently squeezing Ivano's shoulder to show he was there to support the boy too. Mara pulled Misha into the hug too and lay down, covering all three of them with the blanket as they worked to soothe Ivano to sleep. He sniffled and snuggled into her, thumb back in his mouth as they drifted off to sleep.
It had been a long and tumultuous journey, but finally, after so long, they were finally feeling hope.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
