Chapter 6: The Music of Stan Kenton
The day before, Sarah, James, and I went to see a professional jazz band concert featuring our friends, Alex Russo and Justin Evans. While Henri and Max were at home making a slime craft, Sarah and Alex made Glitter Gem Magnets in Edgewood, and James and Justin made Sand Art with Salt and Colored Sidewalk Chalk in Shadyside. After our busy day at work, we went to MSG Academy in Turtle Creek to see our friends perform. We found out that the featured artist was Stan Kenton, and the band performed several songs by him, including "Fuego Cubano", "Artistry in Rhythm", "Intermission Riff", "Eager Beaver", "Pegasus," "Malaguena," "The Peanut Vendor," "La Suerte de los Tontos," "What's New," and "Opus in Pastels". After the show, we chatted with our friends and two Pittsburgh's Perfect Parties clients, Kim Silvet and Liz Mosh, also performed in the band. "You must really love music, don't you, Alex?" Sarah asked. "Yes, I do, Sarah," Alex replied. "Didn't you have a least favorite subject in high school?" Sarah asked. "Mine was gym class." "I never really liked gym class, either," Alex admitted. "But then, I realized that it was good for our physical health." "I must admit that you are my second best friend, Justin," James stated. "That's very nice of you to say, James," Justin replied. "At least you are not like Sarah's old boyfriend, Benedict, who got suspended for drinking alcohol," James stated. "And, you did a very good job of helping me out that day," I remarked. "So, are you going to miss helping out with summer camp?" Alex asked. "Well, we have decided to extend it into the fall," Sarah stated, "because kids are going to head back to school later in the year due to the coronavirus." "Some of our coolest parties would include board games in Squirrel Hill and make-your-own pizzas for dinner or take-out from one of the pizza places, sitting on a fuzzy blanket in Greenfield with a taco bar for dinner, featuring take-out from Eat n' Park in Edgewood with macaroni and cheese for dinner and pancakes for breakfast, making a YouTube video of a cookout in Swissvale featuring hamburgers and hot dogs for dinner, a party without a theme in Point Breeze featuring one of the girls' favorite lunches, chicken nuggets, taking selfies in Oakland with a sub sandwich bar for lunch, a pillow fight in Shadyside with pasta for dinner, BBQ on buns in Highland Park that only features packing a duffel bag, decking out in your slippers in Fox Chapel ordering Chinese food, having quesadillas for dinner and then baking cookies for dessert in O'Hara Township," I told all of my friends. "That sounds yummy," Sarah remarked. "It sure does," Alex agreed. "Hopefully, we can continue to have Sunday Fun-Days into the fall." Pretty soon, it was time for all of us to leave. "Thanks for a great day, everyone!" I thanked my friends. "You're welcome, Angel," Sarah replied. "Bye, guys!" "Bye!"
